Anna made her way into the Divination classroom, stopping only long enough to greet the professor. "Good day, Professor Kapoor," she said, smiling before heading further into the classroom to find a seat. When she'd found a place to sit down, Anna began to take out all the materials she thought would be needed for the lesson. When she was done, she sat quietly and waited for the lesson to begin.

"Yo, Professor Kapoor, dude." Clifford nodded at the Divination teacher before collapsing behind one of the desks at the front of the classroom and pulling out his quill and parchment.

Slowly strolling into the classroom Nancy wasn't too sure what to expect of this lesson. Jyotish Astrology? Jyotish? Huh? She'd never heard of such a thing but she was going to find out about it pretty soon. Passing Professor Kapoor on her way towards one of the desks Nancy smiled and after "Good day, Professor" continued to walk down the aisle to one of the many empty desks.

Miles walked into divination and smiled as he scanned the classroom. EEE. He had always liked this subject, and there was nothing like a good learning hour or so of it. He sat down near to the front, and smiled at the professor. "Hello Professor." He said, as he got his textbook out.

Gwen walked in, her face cheery and her curls in a knot on top of her head. She dropped into a seat behind Anna and dropped her chin in her hand. "Hi Professor Kapoor," she greeted him merrily. She did rather like the curious man. And his bird.

Her dark hair carefully tied on a ponytail, danced with every step she took towards the Divination Classroom. Poking her head in to see if she was the first, and sighing a small sigh of relief when she noticed she wasn't, the fourth year stepped inside the Divination Classroom quietly, before taking the usual seat she always took during this particular class: In the very back.

Yes, let all the people that actually enjoy and are good at this subject take seat in the front.

"Good day, Professor Kapoor," greeted Willow with a polite nod, "Having a nice day, I hope?"

And now--let the Purgatory that Divination usually was, begin.

Astrid ran up the corridor towards the Divination classroom. She was clearly excited for another lesson. As soon as she entered through the door, she greeted the professor with a smile. "Good day, sir. How are you today Professor?" She waved at Anna as she took the seat next to her.

"Good day, Miss Greingoth.", he said happily. Ana was quite possibly one of his best students and he enjoyed having her in the classroom. So he was glad that she could make it.

"Good day to you.", he said warmly, sensing a bit of eagerness in the student.

"Hello. Chapter 23." He reminded. "Although you may want to have the glossary pages handy as we'll be dealing with many, many new terms for the subject."

"Nice to see you again, Clifford.". He had appreciated the boys input during the last class and he was glad to have him again.

"Nice to see you again, Miss Gwen-Gwen.", he said, greeting the Gryffindor girl by what he had been left to assume her name was thanks to Nicolai Toussaint, before turning to Willow, who'd entered the class.

"Yes, Miss Kovac. Thank you. Likewise." The Professor greeted the little Ravenclaw girl with short words and warm tones.

"Very good, Astrid! Come on in and grab a seat." He smiled at the Gryffindor student.


"We'd better get started. We have quite a lot to cover today in this topic." The Professor drew out his wand and prepared to use visual aids for the class today as it was going to be a bit heavy and it might help some of the student understand the subject better. "Some of you may be wondering...'What is Jyotish Astrology?' or 'What is the difference between Jyotish and Western Astrology?'. Well, to start with, lets define a few things. Vedic or Jyotish Astrology comes from the Vedas, which are very, very old scriptures of knowledge and philosophy. Over 5,000 years to be more detailed. The word 'Jyotish' can be said to be translated to mean 'the study or wisdom of light'. 'Jyoti' meaning 'light' and 'sh' translating to 'wisest'. It is very different from Western Astrology in that it addresses the seekers spiritual self and the relationship between that and ones' material surrounding. It is also different in that it uses the nirayana or sidereal zodiac rather than the tropical zodiac."

"Does anyone know the term used in Jyotish Astrology for the astrological signs?"

Anna raised her hand to reply. "Would that be Rāshi?" she asked, a little uncertain of her answer.

"Would that be Rāshi, Professor?" Inquired the girl, with her hand in the air. Memorizing stuff--always a good thing when it came to Divination.

Taking notes about everything Professor Kapoor had said Nancy thought about his question for some time but since she was obviously unable to answer it herself she consulted her textbook. Raising her hand she said, "Is it Rāshi, professor?"

"Eerrrm - Let's see.." Clifford said outloud, thumbing through the pages in his textbook. "I think it's ... Ra - Rash ... Rāshi?" Gosh, what a funny word. Heh.

Astrid looked down at her textbook and then raised her hand in the air. "Rāshi was the term they used, sir."

Ooooh. Evangeline had memorised this one! Yup, she had. "It's Rāshi, Sir." She replied, raising her hand. Or whatever it was pronounced.

Miles raised his hand quickly, although he was a bit unsure of the pronounciation.

"Rāshi .. I think, professor."

Sapphire raised her hand "sir it is Rāshi" she was writting notes down aswell

"Eh...", Kapoor did a double take at everyone's answers. They did have it right, but it was a divisional instrument according to Bṛhat Parāśara Horāśāstra rather than the generic term. Bless their hearts, they outdid themselves. There was no way he was not going to give them anything for their efforts.

"Okay. I was looking for 'Nakshatras', but 'Rāshi' is a good answer too, however more specific than what I was looking for. You can each take one point for your answer. I should have worded that question a bit differently.". The Professor took his wand and manipulated a chip of coloured chalk to draw an almost perfect circular shape on a wheeled black board.

"Chapter 23, page 112 might be more useful to what material we will be covering today. You'll see to the right, it says 'Grahas'. That is the next thing we'll be covering. For starters, who can tell me what 'Grahas' is?"

Clifford couldn't help but gigglesnort when everyone got the incorrect answer. BWAHAHA! That was funneh. "Uhm - I think those ... Grahas thingies, are the planets, Sir." He tried, hand in the air.

Okay. So she had memorised the wrong thing, apparently. Ack. Oh well. "Grahas are the planets in Hindu Astrology. They are: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter,Sun, Moon,Saturn Rahu and Ketu." She replied with her hand raised, after flipping the pages of the book to the right chapter.

Oops. Oh, well, at least Nancy'd received a point for her anwer. Pondering on about Professor Kapoor's next question she absentmindly started drawing little circles on the top of her parchment. Grahas. Grahas. Something about planets. Raising her hand slowly Nancy answered, "Uhm, aren't the nine planets in Hindu Astrology called Grahas?"

"Grahas .." Miles scanned the page. He wanted to concentrate more after the Profeesor just told them all they were wrong. Hehe, well, they were only young, they were allowed to be wrong. "... are the nine planets, sir. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Sun, Moon, Saturn Rahu and Ketu."

Sapphire flicked throughthe book and found it she raised her hand and answered "sir Grahas roughly translated into our 9 planets they are
1. Sy—Surya—Sun
2. Ch—Chandra—Moon
3. Ma—Mangal—Mars
4. Bu—Budha—Mercury
5. Gu—Guru—Jupiter
6. Sk—Shukra—Venus
7. Sa—Shani—Saturn
8. Ra—Rahu—Ascending lunar node
9. Ke—Ketu—Descending lunar node
" she hoped she was right

The fourth year gnawed on her bottom lip for a a second as she flipped the pages of her book looking for the answer, before raising her hand and replying, "Grahas are all the planets in that kind of Astrology, sir."
