| | Arithmancy Lesson 1: The Pinnacles
Professor Shackleton propped open the door to the Arithmancy classroom and glanced around. She probably should have done something to spruce up the place before holding the first lesson, but the start of term had been so busy that she hadn't had the chance.
Everything in the room is so plain and boring. The walls are flat and white. There are no individual desks for the students, but instead seven long tables with several chairs behind each to accomodate the ladies. The tables are completely devoid of character, with nothing interesting atop them to spruce up the place. The only thing on each table is a folded card with a large number on it and the word 'year' written above it. The table closest to the front has a card written 'Year 1', the second 'Year 2', and so forth. The room appears hollow and without warmth, very different from Professor Shackleton's former classroom at Hogwarts.
At the front of the room is a podium, a small table, and one small blackboard. Professor Shackleton is situating her things on the table as you enter. She greets you pleasantly and requests that you take a seat by class year as the cards indicate. All-first years in the front!
OOC: The lesson will begin shortly. You may greet your classmates but please keep excessive chatting to a minimum. |

"The energy present in the First Pinnacle develops your character. It is there for very personal reasons. This is a time when we develop our egos and define our sense of self. Us students will be in our first pinnacle. The Second Pinnacle represents the summer of life. The energy found in this pinnacle influences our relationships with our family members and the way we direct responsibility where others are involved. In the Third Pinnacle, also known as "middle age", we mature and enter the autumn cycle of life. This period can be a wonderfully productive time of life and our Maturity Number often begins to make sense. We usually broaden our experiences to include a more global awareness as well. In the Fourth Pinnacle, or the winter cycle, we embrace deeper fulfillment as we expand our awareness to include a broader definition of spiritual understanding. This is an integrative time of life. The last Pinnacle wants to bring rewards and opportunities to use the knowledge gained through our life's experience." Cela breathed before continuing, "
To calculate the timing of the Pinnacles, begin with the number 36; being the number of pinnacles multiplied by the perfect number 9, Subtract the digit of the Life Path from 36: then add 9 years to find the intervals of the pinnacles."

Professor Shackleton elaborated to the class, "The First Pinnacle is one of the longest periods, covering approximately ages 0 through 27, which is three nine-year cycles, at the least and can be up to 35 for some. It varies in length for each person. The energy of the First Pinnacle cultivates character and develops your sense of self.
"The Second Pinnacle is a period of blossoming and ripening, a period of responsibility and family, with a duration of nine years. The Third Pinnacle covers middle age and maturity and, like the Second Pinnacle, is nine years in length. It is a time of manifestation and reward. And lastly, the Fourth Pinnacle represents a time of aging and wizening, of retirement and reflection, and spiritual wisdom. It is the harvest cycle and lasts at least three cycles of nine years, roughly from age 50 to the end of life.
"So, how do we calculate the four Pinnacles? I'd like each person to only provide ONE calculation. So choose one of the four Pinnacles and tell me how to find it."

Amelia had been sitting towards the window, surprisingly not speaking during the first few questions. Normally she would have been jumping up and down in her seat with the subject matter, but just not today it seemed. Listening to the professor, she vaguely heard the next question. Flipping through her text she then raised her hand before speaking, "You calculate the second pinnacle by adding together the day of your birthday and the year of birth. So for instance, I was born on the 1st in the year 2048. Adding the numbers in the year and simplifying, I would get 5, but then add that to the 1 from the day of my birth and my second pinnacle is 6."

Anna raised her hand. "Professor, there are formulas we use to find each of the four pinnacles. The first pinnacle is month of birth + day of birth. The second pinnacle is day of birth + year of birth. The third pinnacle is the first and second pinnacle's added together. The fourth pinnacle is month of birth + year of birth."
Anna did some quick calculations and figured out her third pinnacle number.
Date of birth: September 19, 2050
First pinnacle: 9 + (1+9) =
9 + (1+0) =
9 + 1 = 10
1 + 0 = 1
Second pinnacle: (1+9) + (2+0+5+0) =
(1+0) + 7 =
1 + 7 = 8
Third pinnacle: 1 +8 = 9
"If I've done my calculations correctly, my third pinnacle is a 9, professor. According to the textbook, it says nine's show a significant amount of compassion and love and uplift others."

Month of birth: 10
Day of birth: 7
10 + 7= 17
1 + 7= 8
