Rebecca moved towards the front of the class and gazed at the squid named Bartholomew (she only knew his name because Lainey said it) "Hello, Mr. Henry, you are looking very good today, nice tentacle" she said kindly, then she moved closer to Bartholomew and pulled out a clam from the English channel that she had aquired by nearly drowning, but that was another story, going so close to Bartholomew and whispering so that no-one but Bartholomew could hear her she smiled and then whispered "I found this clam in the English channel and have waited for the right moment to give it to you, because you saved my friend from drowning in the lake" Rebecca gave the clam to Bartholomew "It also has a nice big pearl in it too" Rebecca moved back a little and winked at Bartholomew.

Amelia tried not to snicker by Lainey's forwardness with asking about what was in the gifts the squid had given select students. She was still a bit loopy from her dozing off most of the lesson, so really everything was quite fuzzy. But from what she could tell, Bartholomew was really talking back to her. She should have known he would have wanted to shake her hand. The sweet darling. Offering a friendly smile, she extended her hand as well and took his tentacle to shake it. A bit slimy, but none the too horrible. "Such a pleasure to hear that, sir," the sixth year said back. From her experience, being nice usually brought about answers rather than rudeness. She closed her eyes briefly, trying to think of what exactly she wanted to know anyway.

Lainey took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Yes, she knew it was clams. But why had he given them to students? In the middle of her questioning, no less? Ugh. Ancient Squids be the death of her.

"Oh, yes, I see. How splendid and kind of you. We are most grateful. Do you have any suggestions for how they should use their clams....?" This was a wasted lesson. She suppposed she should wrap it up and head back to teach on that giant bunny thing that Muggles were crazy about.

"They are exquisite Bartholomew, as are you. May I be so bold to ask, what they are for? Is there a particular purpose for this thoughtful gift, or is it just that... something beautiful to give?" She asked leaning forward on the smurf board. Christian was doing a great job in holding the board steady.

James shook his hand. Or tentacle. "Very nice to meet you" he said "you are most extrodinary" he said, swelling up with pride. He liked him. The amazing squid acually liked him!

Rhiannon found all the questions about the clams funny. The professor should have realized that they were given to people who had complimented Bartholemew. She figured they were a nice gift, especially considering who they were from. And while she was curious on if they had a purpose, like Cassandra was, she wasn't going to ask.

Besides, Amelia's loopiness was entertaining her.

Patrick paddled curiously over to Cassandra. The second tsunami had been smaller than the first and hadn't unseated him. He looked at the clam in Cassandra's hand. "May I see it, please?" he asked her. If it was a gift from a giant squid it must be special in one way or another. Even if it wasn't particularly what Lainey was interested in he wanted to take a look.

Xana watched the squid resurface, taking care not to be upended by the wave generated by the return of his bulk. She wondered if Bartholomew could ever be persuaded to create larger waves in the lake-- she could go for some real surfing. However, it would probably be presumptuous to ask. Bummer.

Oooh, so humble. she thought, smiling. She pondered for a moment... There was something she wanted to ask, but was unsure if she should. But it was a History of Magic class, after all... "Professor... and Bartholomew, sir... I have a question, please... I've heard many historical legends about a creature called the Kraken. I've also heard that in many cases it's believed that the mythological magical Kraken is actually a giant squid. Is that the case, are you one and the same? Or is the Kraken a mythological creature made up by superstitious muggles with no relation to your own magnficence, sir?"

Bart cocked his head at her. Strange creatures these humans. "You ask about children. I give answer."

"I do not know this name. Kraken. I am Bartholomew Henry," he answered, patiently, though it had no relevance whatsoever to what they were discussing.

Christian smiled at Mr. Henry's niceness. "It's a very pretty clam. So shiny and what not." He kept grinning as Cassandra started laughing when the squidy was tickling her toesies. He lightly pushed her shoulders as to straighten her back up. "It's not problem," he said softly.

He kept a tight hold on the board as she leaned forward to speak to the squidy. He leaned back a bit to counterweight her. "Such a thoughtful squid," he smiled nicely and watched the scene. "Make that a nice squid with a pretty cool name...Bartholomew..."he pondered over the name, smiling softly.

"You give answer?" she said looking touching his tentacle again... This clam has the answer? she thought to herself... "Sweet Batholomew," she caressed the squid gently and sweetly, "Please, may I ask you one last question? How might I know the answer... do I open the clam?" She was afraid to do so without permission... without supervision... what if she missed the answer...

"It is a neat name," she said to Christian... She was glad Sho wasn't here to see her being nice to one of his house members. She seemed to be comfortable with him... odd.

Christian smiled back at Cassandra, he couldn't help but notice how comfortable she was talking to him. Before it used to just be a mention of the last name and they'd walk right by each other.

"Mr. Henry, you've got the most rockin' name everr," he then finally stopped talking long enough so that Cassandra could hear what the squid had to say.

Cora tried to keep her board steady, rocking back and forth. EEEEEP! She tipped off of it sideways, and landed in the water with a SPLASH. Spluttering madly, her hands scrabbled at the side of the board.

How embrassing.

Lainey gasped loudly. "You mean... you mean this will heal them? These clam?" Lainey paddled closer to Barty, far closer than was probably safe. She had to make sure she caught ever word. She looked quickly around to the students, willing them with her eyes to listen and help her remember everything. "A potion, Mr. Henry?"

"Lainey will know," Bart answered the girl, and then held a tentacle out for the professor who had come so close, while assisting another student back onto its log. He addressed Lainey directly. "You have answer. Take clam to man who knows. I tire."

Cassandra watched as the Squid helped Latiffa to her board. "Thank you Bartholomew..." she told him. "You have been immensely helpful." sorta.

"Thank you so much, Bartholomew" James said excitedly. These shells could tell him where his friends were, and help them become humans again!

"Back to the classroom, students! NOW!" Lainey turned her board around quickly. "Be careful with those clams! Back to class now!!" Lainey was already kicking and paddling like a mad woman for shore.


"Thanks Bartholomew! You're truly a life-saver!"

Heather held onto her clam tightly as she paddled back to shore. She was exhausted and ready to go back to class. Who would've thought that I could actually be lucky enough to help someone.

James followed the professors instructions and started to head towards the castle.

Christian eyed the squid as he spoke, his eyes occaisionally darting between Mr. Henry and the clam enclosed in Cassandra's hand. He blinked as they were suddenly being ordered to head back to class.

"You keep a hold on that thing, eh? I'll get us back to the shore." Christian then started to paddle them both back to shore; his strong arms taking long strides.

She nodded and held the clam tight. She wouldn't be the one to lose it. She was grateful Christian was there. He was nice... for a Ravenclaw... She blushed again, trying to hide from his gaze, and others, by letting her hair fall like a curtain over her face.

Christian silently paddled the two of them back to the shore. It was much harder paddling the two of them back to shore, as there was a bit more added weight and Christian was trying with all his might to keep the board from tipping over.

Christian slowed down as they neared the shore and slightly bump signified that they had hit land. He slid of the board and into the water, holding tight onto the board so it wouldn't tip over. He manoeuvered the board around so that Cassandra could get off easier without need of getting in the water herself.

Christian had taken much care in bringing her to shore. "Thank you..." She said to him as moved off the board to the shore. She didn't mind being in the water, but it meant something to her that he'd take the time and energy to make sure she wouldn't have to get wet again. "I mean that..."

She held the clam in her right hand and extended her left to him... she was small and thin, and he would have probably toppled her over him, but she felt as if she owed it to him.

He was perhaps just teeny bit shellshocked when she thanked him for what he had done. He quickly shook it off and smiled warmly, "it was no problem. I'm sure other people would have done the same."

Christian reached up and grabbed the offered hand with his right and used his left to help pull himself out of the lake; he didn't want to pull her back in. "Thanks," he smiled and shook his hair again to at least make it look a little messy. He hated when it was plastered to his head..."Oh sorry," he chuckled as he suddenly realized he was spraying her with water.

He pulled the surfboard out of the water and placed it under his arm to carry. "Shall we?"
