Herbology Lesson One: Special Care The usual blackboards are at the front of class, one of them listing The Needs and Care of Flowering (and/or Fruiting) Plants. The text is in Armand's usual handwriting, though anyone who knows it would know that there were subtle differences. Nothing is scattered across the tables at this particular moment. No plants, no soil, no fertilizer... none of it, actually. Erikson is waiting at the front as usual, greeting you as you come in. His left hand is bandaged, though not as heavily as it was just a while ago. |
Excelsior entered the classroom and saw Professor Erikson with a bandage on his hand and, surprisingly, no plants or bags of seeds at the front of the class. Well, there must be a reason, he thought. "Hello, Professor Erikson," he smiled. "Nice to see you again." Excelsior took a seat and waited for the rest of the students to show up. |
Austin entered the Herebology classroom "good afternoon, Professor Erikson" he said, taking his seat he wondered why there was not plants or planting materials in the room. |
Marco strolled in. His hair was disorganised. His shirt was probably buttoned up wrong. He couldn't find his bag. He just seemed a mess. He ran his hands through his hair, Was I meant to read something for this lesson? Or do some work? He had hardly slept the past few nights. His NEWTs were fast approaching and he needed to pass. |
Hitachi walked into the Herbology class and smiled at the professor. "Hello professor, good day!" he said as he found a seat. |
Tag slid into the back row of the classroom, hoping to go unnoticed. The first day of Herbology was like showing up to sit at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro and gaze upwards, knowing that you're going to have to climb it, and knowing you're going to suffocate and die about halfway to the top. He noted the lack of materials at the front of the room. Good! Maybe Erikson had renounced plants altogether, and they would have a nice quiet game of tiddly-winks instead. |
"Hello Professor Erikson, having a good day I hope?" Willow greeted politely as she entered the classroom. Herbology was her least favourite subject, and it was only because she wasn't good at it. Herbology was the only subject, that made her feel utterly stupid and ignorant, and of course she didn't liked that feeling. Taking seat in the back of the classroom, she shrugged off her bag from her shoulder and waited for the class to start. |
Alex smiled as he entered the classroom he nodded to the professor, and took his seat near his friends. Henoticed the professors hand and felt sorry for him, he smiled at Excelsior, he meet him during the feast. He leant right on the table, his hand reached his hair, it was very scruffy today. |
Ryan walked into class, a little down on himself. Two bad things in two days. What was he going to do? Play with plants! That's what. The smell of the soil always seemed to help him calm down. "Hello, Professor," he said as he entered the room. "How are you today?" He spotted Tag and was tempted to avoid eye contact, but he needed to not be affected by the earlier events. He went over toward Captain Chaos and Willow, and took his seat. |
Dia entered the classroom and took a seat towards the middle of the classroom, taking a piece of parchment and self-inking quill just in case it was needed. |
Walking in the door Janie looked around, the room wasn't exactly how some of the other students described it. In fact it was nothing alike from how she had pictured it. Looking over she saw the proffesor and decided it would be best to introduce herself. Walking up she said, "Hello proffesor, my name is Janie Smith. It's nice to meet you. |
Claudian entered the Herbology classroom silently. He tried to slip into the class un-detected, but given his size, was a near unaccomplishable feat. He slipped into the classroom, kept his head bowed, and took a seat near the Ravenclaw boys. |
Erikson glanced about at the students. He smiled to them and greeted them, of course, but he was also carefully watching each of the uniforms coming in. A lot of Ravenclaws to start. Hmm... Ah well. His eyes lingered momentarily on Claudian before he went on. "Everyone please sit down. Let's get started!" Once his students were seated he continued. "Let's start simple. Transplanting young fruit plants. When you do so, how do you ensure the best harvest the next year?" |
This was a tricky question, but, nevertheless, Ryan went for an aswer. Raising his hand, he said, "Well, fertilizer always helps." |
Marco jumped as he heard the Professor talking. He was jittery, and on edge. Stressed one might say. And he didn't know the answer. He had only just revised it as well. |
Excelsior raised his hand. "For one thing, you need to make sure that the plants receive the proper amount of water so that they can grow properly. That's one of the most important things." |
Jai walked into the class with her hair falling over her shoulders and her uniform neat and well put together. She had a hair band around her wrist just incase she needed to do any potions work, which she knew she would. Jaimine saw Alex and Claudian and was forced between the two, she knew Claudian would have Xana so she went and sat beside Alex and gave him a smile. |
"A good irrigation system is always helpful if you want to take care of your crops in a bit more modern style..." Dia suggested. She was no good at Herbology in the slightest. |
Qaz raised her hand and replied, 'Having a beehive helps with pollination.' Qaz wasn't sure why she said that...maybe because she just got off her broom...buzzing around in the sky like a busy bee. |
"Conditioning, watering, soil, potting, proper temperature.." Willow said tentatively with her hand in the air. She was definitely not good in herbology, but hey, at least she was trying. |
Claudian managed a small smile at Jai as she entered. He had held his breath a bit as the Herbology Professor lingered on him for a moment, and though he was nervous, he put a hand in the air and offered an answer for a point. "Timing is also important. Certain plants need to be transplanted at certain times in the year. Fall being a principal time for transplanting." |
Janie raised her hand, "Well you can add fertilisor, make sure it has enough water, and even giving it a certain amount of sunlight might also affect how it grows" |
Hitachi raised his hand. "Professor, You need a good amount of fertilizer and you need to make sure that the plants receive the proper amount of water so that they can grow well. They need the right amount of sun as well." |
Hermy raised her hand. As she did so, her dark brown hoody fell down to reveal a thin boney wrist. Hermy certainly wasn't her usual self. "It is important to leave a large root ball, Professor, since otherwise the tree will put its efforts in to growning roots rather than directing growth and nutrients to the fruits. It is also important to do this in the right season after pruning." |

"Now, I was actually looking for quite a bit of a different answer. For smaller plants particularly, since trees make this act difficult, you must pick the blossoms from the plants their first year. Any ideas as to why?" |
