You enter the Arithmancy classroom to see neat and exactly-positioned rows of wooden desks and chairs, the latter of which have cushions in a myriad of colors and textures to match your comfort and liking. The walls are filled with thick wooden shelves, on which rest a seemingly endless number of Arithmancy texts and the occasional Ancient Runes and Divination reference. For those students who studied Arithmancy last year, the room looks very much the same, as does the woman awaiting your arrival.

When you look to the front of the room, you see a tall, blonde-haired woman sitting behind a desk made of dark angelique wood in an excessively large and comfortable-looking chair. On the desk is a small placard reading "Professor Macadrian A. Shackleton - Arithmancy," as well as a large stack of thin, bound booklets, an assortment of papers and quills, and several copies of the class textbook. She smiles at you as you enter the classroom and gestures for you to take a seat. As you glance up to the boards behind and to the sides of Professor Shackleton, you see a list of Arithmancy terms to be covered in today's review session:

Anna beamed with pride at her new journal. Being a first year, Anna was experiencing all the wonders of Hogwarts for the very first time. She smiled up at her professor and wrote her name on the inside front cover of her journal.

Professor Shackleton seemed to be nice, well honestly Ellie didn't remember her Arithmancy teacher very well.
That was not something very nice to say.
Or think.
Ellie had been on Arithmancy classes last year so didn't received any journal.
With small smile she observed the other students receiving their journals and waited for the class to go on.

Hitachi hastily took out his required items while listening to the professor. He wrote his name on his journal then turned to look up at the professor to begin the lesson.

Amelia looked up at the Professor with great interest in her green eyes; she simply adored Shackleton to no other. Then as though it hit her like a brick wall, she put her notebook away and removed her journal from last time, giggling over the little things she decorated it with last term.

She shook her head at the professor, signifying no questions from her, and was anxious to carry on with the lesson.

From the back of the room Ari bent down and picked up her journal, opening it to the front page where the work was already finished. She lokoed up, twirling her quill, waiting for the lesson to start. Firguring she'd may as well pay attention she silently got up, throwing the professor an apologetic look and moved up to the front of the room sitting beside a sixth year Ravenclaw she hadn't met yet.

Professor Shackleton scanned the room, looking to see if any of the students had their hands raised or inquisitive looks on their faces. There didn't appear to be any quite yet, so Professor Shackleton started, "Now, let us begin. I assume most of you have done the reading in the textbook, yes? Well, then you must know that an Arithmancer is someone who studies Arithmancy, yes? What exactly does an Arithmancer study? In other words, what is Arithmancy in terms of meaning and purpose?" Professor Shackleton paused and added, "And please do try not to regurgitate the textbook. Answers in your own words would be best."

Rhiannon raised her hand. "Arithmancers find meaning in numbers, and juxtaposition of numbers." She didn't really know why she had thought of that. But she had said it, so she was stuck.

Amelia gave Rhiannon a reassuring smile, that this subject would not be that bad; not as bad as everyone said it was at least. Turning her focus back to the Professor, her hand shot into the air instantly, "Arithmancers study the divine influence that numbers have on human life. It may be thought of as a science of number energies, every number has its own vibratory influence. They study what numbers mean in relation to your birth name and your date of birth."

Nodding at the Professor's question, Curt smiled because he had a slight idea of what the answer was. Arithmancy was sadly, one of Curt's weakest subjects but the thought he might as well give it a shot. His hand shop up and once answered, he spit out an answer hoping it made sense. "Well, Arithmancy is a branch of magic concerning the magical affects of numbers. Such as why certain things happen during certain types of years due to the calendar...and stuff like that." Curt said, finishing rather uncertainly, and knew he had probably just embarrased himself very badly. Curt you are a fourth year you should know this so much better., he thought to himself, dissapointed.

Alex nooded at the Professor, and got his quill, textbook and journal on to the table, he arranged them neatly. He picked up his quill oozing with ink and appiled his name to the journal in a gothic hand style writing.
He smiled perfectly at the Professer.

"I believe that Arithmancy is in charge of studying the meaning of numbers" Willow said with her hand in the air. "And, I think it also study the impact and how influential those numbers can be in our lives...?" About this last part, Willow was not so sure, yet, there was nothing wrong in trying. Or that's what she thought at least.

Excelsior raised his hand. "Arithmancy can be used as a blueprint for how you should live your life, if you know how to interpret all the signs properly. It can give you a clue about your strengths and weaknesses and help you to make the best of these things."

Ellie raised her armr, she remembered that from what she had been reading the bad before "Arithmancers study divination by the means of the numbers.”
Okay... maybe that wasn't the right answer.

She looked down at her journal, flipping pages to find the right one. She frowned, seeing the tiny messy scrawl of her own writing and sighed. She knew the answer, or so she thought but had a feeling it would be wrong. "Arthimancy is the divination of numbers which effect our lives on a daily basis." She replied, getting her nerve up.

Professor Shackleton allowed the students a moment to take notes in their journals and then discussed, "You see, while Arithmancers the study the meanings of numbers, they don't just do so for the sake of wanting to know the characteristics of a number. We study Arithmancy so that we can apply it to our everyday lives. Arithmancy is a symbolic language of numbers, as well as a system of relating numbers and names to teach us about the human condition."

Macadrian gave them more time to take notes if they wished, then asked the class, "Who is credited with the birth of Arithmancy and what was his greatest contribution to the field?"

Juniper raised her hand. She had done her reading before class. "Pythagoras is credited with the birth of Arithmancy," she said. "He figured out that things could be measured, understood, and predicted by numbers associated with them through patterns." She hoped she was right.

Raising hand: Pythagoras was a 6th century BC greek Philosopher who was responsible for Arithmancy, therefore it became Pythagoran theory

Ari loked up at the next question and put her hand in the air. "Pythagoras I believe it was, in the sixth century I think it was." She replied hoping it was right.
