| | |  Herbology Lesson One: Ghosty's Tale
Seedling trays, filled with a sweet-smelling soil, lined the tables in the classrooms. If you look at them just right, it would seem that something glimmers there, but is gone before you can make out the shape of it.
Just next to each small seedling tray is a pot about the size of a cereal bowl, only taller. This too is filled with a sweet-smelling soil. Something about the fragrance of the classroom is of apples, cherries, and apricots.
In front of is another of these seedling trays, and pot. However, also there is a box containing small bags of a dark-gray substance.
Professor Erikson rounded the room, taking care to check on each seedling tray once more and placing trowels around at each station. Once he was satisfied, he took his place at the front of the classroom, waiting for the students to arrive. | |

Excelsior saw that he was the first student to arrive for Herbology lessons. He walked in the door and greeted the Professor, "So nice to see you again, Professor Erikson. I hope you've been well?"
Excelsior then proceeded to take a look at all the seedling trays and pots. He noticed a very fruity smell in the air and thought, hmmm, this should prove interesting. He chose his seat and waited for other students to arrive. |

Sini walked into the room, eager to being learning. She has always thought that Herbology was such an interesting subject and she was thrilled to be attending class today. Walking towards the front of the room Sini spotted Professor Erikson and smiled as a greeting.
Taking her seat towards the front she began to pull out her supplies, ready to begin learning whatever was to come today.

Amelia walked into the Greenhouses for the first time this term. She normally would have scrunched her nose up in disgust from the smell of the plants, but the fruit fragrance was quite pleasing to the nose. Herbology may not have been one of her favorite classes, but she had to continue with it until she at least passed her OWLs and could take whatever she desired.
She walked towards the back of the room, and took a seat as she began to pull out her supplies. She then looked up at Professor Erikson and smiled.

Kerry walked in and smiled as she passed Professor Erikson. "Hello Professor, how are you?" she asked as she walked into the classroom looking for a place to sit.
Noticing Sini sitting there alone, Kerry walked over to her. "Hello again Sini. Long time no see," she teased. Mind if I sit here?" Kerry asked, taking the next to her seat anyway.
Noticing a strange, almost sweet smell enveloping the classroom, Kerry looked up, "Mmmmm... what's that smell?"

Erikson greeted the students as they entered, smiling to them as he did so. He briefly wondered if he should have saved this lesson for the end of the term. This lesson would probably be hard to top in interest, after all. Ah well, the truth was that now was a prime time for the Ghosty's Tale, and that's what is really important.
He checked the time looked around to the students. "Well, looks like it's about time to begin. Take up places at your stations and we'll start with a little story." As he talked, he pulled out his wand. Please, let everything go as planned, he thought.

"A long time ago," he started, "there was a small land which was ruled by a group of rebel wizards and witches. A group which was against the empire that had decided it would govern them, and harshly. While others complied, this group decided that though they were few, they would go against these massive forces. And like many places, their headquarters had a few ghosts.
"Of course, you know that ghosts have names, and pasts, and can remember much of what their lives had been like. Even their deaths. But one young ghost had no memory of her death, and no memory of her life. There had been no ghost like her that they had seen before. In fact, she even had wings like a fairy, that shimmered in such a way that is looked as though they were always melting..."
He waved his wand and the classroom began to darken. Little by little the seedlings appeared. First the outline in a soft glow, even though the shape was no where near solid. And then in near-perfect darkness, the plants took shape. There was a stem with two leaves, and at the top was a leaf bud. It rather looked like a softly shimmering fairy out of fantasy stories. It even had the appearance that it was melting, even in that solid form.
"Actually, even the other ghosts speculated, that perhaps..." he ran his hand over the top of the seed tray, his hand passing through the plants as though they weren't even there, "she had been born a ghost."
