Touy walked into the Observation Room and found a table to sit at. After getting settled in her chair she noticed the assignment was on the board. She set about drawing a picture of the moon it was in a quarter phase so it was harder to drawn then in a full faze. If it had been a new moon would we draw a black page. Even though the moon was only half there is sure was bright. Touy drew the moon and did a tricky little spell to make it look like it was glowing.

Now to the telescope to look at the moon. Wow the moon looks fuller through the telascope and the detail was amazing. This would take awhile to draw. That was work but with the drawing done Touy took out her book to begin labling her drawing. With the labeling done it was time to look at the moon and find something on it?

Looking at the moon Touy could only see shadows but what did they look like. Touy let her mind wander and then started to draw them to see if they made more sence that way. Finally she had something to hand in.

It was a long and late class and Touy was glad to be leaving it.

Hermy walked into the lab, and yawned. Looking at the board, she noticed the list of tasks that had been set. Sighly loudly, she pulled her textbook, some parchment and her quill from her bag, which she then slung on the floor by her chair. Looking at the board once more, she re read what they needed to do. The task set actually wasnt too bad, apart from the fact that Hermy really needed some sleep. The whole fact that Hermy could draw would be the thing that would help her though this assignment, at least her maps would be half decent!

Hermy looked to the sky and found the moon. She decided that her quill was not the bit implement to use to sketch and foud her Muggle drawing pencil. It would help her get the shadows in correctly. She wokred away, noting every detail she could see with only the naked eye, pausing slightly now and then to sit back and review her work. Satified she had captured the moon to her best ability, Hermy moved on.

Second, I want you to view the moon with the telescope and draw a more precise map of the moon, and label the items you can find by referring to your book. (10pts) Hermy pulled the telescope towards her, and spent a few minutes focusing it. The one advantage of the moon was that it didnt take ages to find. She gasped, the difference between this and the previous view without the telescope was amazing. Picking up her pencil, Hermy sketched a large outline so that she would be able to make this as detailed as possible. She worked diligently until she was satisfied, then spent a few minutes labelling as much as possible, using her textbook as a reference.

Finally Hermy reached the last section. Things the shadows reminded her of... She brushed the feather of her quill along her chin thoughtfully. She jotted down a few ideas, stating the obvious Man of the Moon first, despite the fact that it was the example in the question.

Clearing away her things, Hermy picked up her parchment to hand in. Though her tiredness had ceased with the concentration on her drawings, it was now seeping back and she wanted to get othe Ravenclaw dorms as quickly as possible.

Cameron took a seat at a telescope and tilted her head upwards, her eyes studying the reflective moon. It was so beautiful here, its image untouched by the smog of muggles. She took out a piece of parchment and began to sketch it, making sure to shade everything that needed to be shaded in order to symbolize depth.

After she had finished with that, she looked toward the board and read the part about now looking through the telescope and drawing the moon in more detail. This would be slightly more difficult, but she began her image none the less. Her fingers moved swiftly over the page, creating cross-hatches and little swirls. After she had finished with that, she opened her book and began to label the different craters and rock formations.

She then drew the more simple illustration, only concentrating on the abstract shadows. Once she had concluded it all, it had been more than an hour and her hand was throbbing. None the less, she felt quite satisfied.

Athena entered the observatory yawning slightly, it had been a long day, but she was excited to use the telescope. She found a table and sat her belongings down. As she was getting ready to sit down to wait for class to begin, she realized that the assignment was already on the board. As she read the assignment, she slower finished lowering herself into the chair, so that by the time she was finished reading the assignment, she had to stand back up.

Walking over to the window with a sketch pad, she quickly but thoroughly drew a picture of the full moon as she saw it in that instant. She tried to accurately shade to represent the craters that she could barely make out in the surface of the moon. Luckily she had taken long enough reading and rereading the assignment so she did not have to wait for the moon to rise. “This is the perfect time to draw the moon without a telescope” She thought to herself. The optical illusion of the moon looking so much larger than it really is when it is right next to the horizon had always fascinated Athena. “I will have to remember to ask the Professor about this.” She thought to herself.

Finished with her drawing, she walked over to the telescope nearest to her. She looked inside and noticed that it was a little out of focus, probably from the last person who used it. Pulling out her wand, she gently tapped the telescope twice and murmured the incantation of auto focusing. Looking back through the telescope as she put her wand away, she was delighted to see that it had worked.

While glancing through the telescope to reference, she began drawing the moon as she saw it through her telescope. It was amazing the amount of detail that could be seen by using this device. After she finished her drawing, she went back to her table, and pulling out her book, labeled all of the craters that she could.

She again went back to the window and tried to make out different shapes from the shadows on the surface of the moon. She had heard about something called the man on the moon, and after staring at it for several minutes, suddenly she could see the image that everyone had talked about. Smiling, she redrew the picture of the moon with the emphasis of the man on the moon shaded.

Upon finishing, Athena packed up her belongings, deciding that when she got back to the common room she would add a little bit of color to her drawings to make them pretty. She turned to wave and smile at the Professor as she left, but she looked engrossed in her paper work, so she simply left, making a mental note to go talk to her in the next few days.

Jen stepped into the Observation Room and took in all the telescopes. She quickly read over the instructions on the board and made her way over to an empty telescope. After setting her bag down on a nearby table, Jen began the first part of the assignment. As instructed she observed the moon without the aid of the telescope. She started to draw a rough sketch of what she saw, occasionally looking back up at moon.

When she was finished with her drawing, she started the second part of the assignment. She had to stand on her tiptoes to reach the eyepiece of the telescope and her neck grew sore after a few minutes. Stepping back, she completed the required drawing. It took her longer to complete this one than it had the previous one, but Jen was satisfied with the result.

Looking back at the chalkboard to see what the last part of the assignment was, she returned to her previous position and stared at the moon once more. Although the Man in the Moon was the example Professor Belle had given, she really didn't see it right away. It took her a few minutes, but finally Jen felt she had found the image, and so she completed her last sketch, taking care to shade correctly.

After she finished the third drawing, Jen took a minute to look over her sketches before picking up her things. As satisfied as she was likely to be with her drawings, she handed them on her way out of the observatory.

Astromomy classes were few, probably because you had to stay up until after dark to do most assignments. Rosalie, however, didn't mind. She sauntered into the classroom, and neared a vacant telescope.

Her brown eyes wandered over to the list of instructions, to which, she knew she would be frequently refering. To save her some sore neck muscles, she scratched them down on a piece of parchment.

Due at the end of class

Yawning, Rosalie looked into the telescope, and focused it on the moon, not an easy task, but she did it none the less. Studying the large orb for a good while, she turned away from it, and scarted to take notes on another piece of parchment. She drew the moon first, then intended to take further notes from her book.

A long time, one bottle of ink, and three pieces of parchment later, she was finished. Yawning and stretching, Rosalie gathered her assignment together, packed her things away, and headed up to turn it in.

Dis walked into the Observation Room and read the board before sitting down. She wanted to make sure she read all of the instructions and understood everything she needed to do before setting to work. She made shorthand notes of the instructions on a piece of parchment and looked around the room for an empty telescope.

There weren't that many students in the room so finding an unoccupied instrument was quite easy. She walked over to one and pulled out the stool situtated underneath the eyepiece and sat upon it, depositing her bag next to her. The took out a larger piece of parchment and a quill and set to work

She looked up at the moon with her bare eyes and drew a simple sketch of it, making sure to fill in the proper shadows where they were to lie on a scale model if she had one in front of her. She drew a few surrounding stars to compliment her picture and carried on.

Next she took a look at the moon through the telescope. What she had seen without it paled in comparison to what she was looking at in the zoomed image. She readied her quill again and began to sketch a more precise drawing of the moon and all of it's intricacies. SHe would occasionally flip through her book to find and label all of the specific areas of the moon, the spaces around it and it's projected path.

She raised her head from the eye of the telescope and looked at the moon a final time, trying to trick her eye into seeing images in the shadows it cast upon itself. There was the obvious Man in the Moon but was there anything else? Was she able to see something if she looked a certain way and squinted her eyes just so? Dis jotted down a few notes, making a couple of rough sketches to back herself up.

She blinked her eyes thoroughly as they were strained from looking through the eye piece for so long. She rolled up her parchment, tucked her quill into her back and stood up. SHe stretched slightly. She back was a little sore from being in a hunched position for such an extended period of time but the pain quickly went away. She grabbed her bag, flung it over her shoulder and walked out of the Observation Room.

AJ entered the lab and saw the directions and nodded. she headed immediately to the farthest telescope away from distraction and anyone else she could get. she pulled out her paper, and ripped the handle off her wand and began writing her name and info on the paper. she was writing with the handle of her wand which she'd turned into a pencil that never needed sharpening.

she looked up at the moon, without the the telescope, and squinted, trying to see as much as possible. she drew a circle, at least what was almost a circle, and then began to shade in the shadows she could see from here. she wrote on the paper: "Moon Without Telescope" and then continued onto the next part of the lab: viewing the moon with the 'scope.

AJ drew another circle, a more careful, much larger one this time, and then looked into her telescope and began to draw. the moon from thru the telescope was alarmingly detailed, and she smiled to herself, oddly enough, at the thought that she was seeing something so far away in such good quality. she put her wand to the paper and scetched a rough draft type thing, then went section by section carefully detailing in the moon bit by bit. she would label this later.

After what felt like hours, tho was only nearly half of one, she was finally done drawing the detailed version of the moon. She looked at it and compared it with the moon one last time, nodded, and wrote: "Moon Thru Teloscope" next to it and yawned. she still had to do that last one, draw one more, and label this one. but she really didn't want to. AJ looked in her book a few more times, scribbled down a bunch of words in then general areas of her moon drawings, and then looked up once more, not squinting thru the tiny telescope lens this time but just with her eyes, and re-drew the first one, only labeling it a few where she had just learned where a few things were thanks to her moon map.

AJ turned to head out of the observatory, papers in one hand, her other hand over her mouth, she went to turn it in yawning the whole way.

Caitlin set her bookbag down by a telescope and looked around her. Many people were already peering up at the night sky and scribbling frantically on their parchment. She smiled a litte - it was a good thing this class began a night, because she hated the mornings.

Caitlin looked up at the night sky, trying to get a nice, clear view. She then pulled out some pachment and her favorite drawing quill and began to sketch a rough draft of the moon and the shadows on it. Her circles were a little lopsided, but she hoped the Professor wouldn't mind. Drawing was not her thing.

Next, Caitlin adjusted her telescope to sit at a comfortable level, then angled it up towards the moon. She could see things much, much clearer now. She tried much harder this time to keep her shapes even, and when she's finished enough to where she was satisfied, Caitlin opened up her book and began labeling everything she had seen.

Finally, she got to move onto her favorite part of the lesson - looking for shadows on the moon. To her surprise, she quickly found a face - a face on the moon! A small shadow in the upper left hand conrener appeared as an eyeball. The shadow that was extended from the bottom lefthand corner to the middle of the moon looked like a smile. Also, the scattered arrangements of shadows at the top of the full moon came across as hair. Caitlin smiled, scribbled it down, then stood up to give her papers to her Professor.

Alanna entered the classroom, saw the instructions, and got down to work. This was going to take a while, but at least it was beautiful outside.

Alanna gazed intently at the moon with her bare eyes, and drew as detailed a sketch as possible. The rough shape of the moon took form. At least it was recognizable.

Putting her eyes to the telescope, she was amazed to see a multitude of details on the surface. She’d never used a telescope like this before, at least not on the moon. She made a new, more detailed sketch, full of the required labels. She looked at her handiwork with a critical eye, fixed a few things, and settled down to finish the lab.

Removing her eye from the telescope, she looked back at the moon with just her eyes. Never having been one for seeing hidden images, the only recognizable image she found was a curled beetle shape. The beetle-thing had two big eyes and large pincers. She sketched an image of the moon and circled the image. Looking intently for the man on the moon, Alanna was about to give up when she saw it. There, near the upper left of her view, was a rough outline of two eyes and a nose. She carefully drew yet another moon and outlined the face.

A little disappointed with her image seeing, Alanna packed up her supplies and handed in her papers to the professor.
