| Double Agent Stamps! Professor, does the Forgetfulness potion contain ginger root or unicorn hair. It would seem to me it would need to be a strong potion to alter a person's memory. |

Jo, as usual, kept her mouth firmly shut, as she took her notes and tried to remember all the things her Great Aunt Maddy taught her about potion brewing, forgetfulness potions weren't something her Aunt ever made or sold, but she was a great Potions Mistress in her day. Jobberknowl feathers, that's a given, it'll scramble your memories or make you forget all together, it can be useful to undo a memory charm. What else?

Katie raised her hand and said, "I believe forgetfulness potions can be difficult to make because if you accidentally breathe in some of the fumes, you can, well, forget what step you're on."

Troy raised his hand and said, "It's a rather useless potion isn't it? And it is only studied for honing brewing technique or to ensure proper brewing of the antidote. right? The only ingredients needed is water leeches and jabberknoll feathers." Troy waited for the teachers reaction apprehensivley.

| Technically technical all the time Bookaholic "Excellent. Joberknoll feathers, frog spawn, ginger root, and leeches are all ingredients in this yes, rather useless potion. The forgetfulness potion is generally only used in introductory potions classes to help hone brewing technique. Unlike confusing or befuddlement draughts, this potion will not cause disorientation, it will merely cause one to forget simple things such as where you left your wand, when your homework is due, or other such trivialities.
"I chose this simple potion for our lesson today because I thought you'd all like a break after your mid-term and to get you back into the habit of potion brewing. Remember, brewing potions is an art and a skill that must be nurtured and honed. Never attempt a complicated brewing if you are out of practice. Are there any questions or anything else anyone would like to add?" Professor Branxton spoke as he paced the front of the classroom.

Drusilla listens intensively, but decides to be careful not to taste that Potion. She forgets things easily enough nowadays even without any potions ... Not to mention that the ingredients weren´t too tempting either ... Why cannot we brew vegetarian Potions, she thought to herself. She was sure leeches and frog spawn could be replaced with some herbs.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Fancy Taylor | Devoted to Tom Padfoot's Psychiatrist Fancy couldn't think of any questions at this point in the lesson, as she continued to scribble down the last few words of what Professor Branxton had said. She then glanced up from her parchment and waited for him to post the recipe on the board, as he did with every other potion they had brewed. She was glad this potion was going to be simple. The Mid-Term hadn't been that difficult, but it was nice, nonetheless, for their professor to be kind enough to give them a break, as Fancy had a lot of homework in some of her other classes that she needed to concentrate on. |

Drusilla might hate to admit it, but the Hufflepuff student´s question made sense. She decided to avoid also touching the brewed potion, whatever the Professor´s answer might be.

Yurio filled his culdron with the requiered amount of water and made a fire benith it. He looked over five Joberknoll feathers to make sure they were whole and then added them to the potion. He then started to grind up his frogspawn while he waited for the potion to boil. After five minutes he added the frogspawn and stirred the potion twenty-five time counterclock wise. He started to cut up his ginger roots while the potion simmered.
He finished with his roots and started cutting the leeches into chunks. After doing this he added them to the potion aswell and stirred twenty-five times counterclockwise. Then he allowed it to simmer for ten minutes.
After ten minutes he looked into his culdron unsatisfied. It ended up being white almost with just a touch of gray. He filled two vials and corked one bringing it up to the Professor's desk. He went back to his seat and waited for further instructions.

Adrienne panicked. 'Testing the draft!?!? He can't do that to students, can he?!?!' she thought. 'I'm sure he wouldnt do anything to put a student in harm's way....' Adrienne shook her head and donned her ugly-but-necessary safety gear. She got out her cauldron and carefully measured out 500 mL of water. While waiting for the water to boil, she mashed her frog spawn in her motar and pestle. The water came to a rolling boil. She added the Jobberknoll feathers in, all five, one at a time. She then added the pulverized frog spawn and stirred her potion, counterclockwise, as stated. "...23...24...25." she counted aloud. Adrienne reduced the heat under her cauldron to allow it to simmer for five minutes. During this time she sliced her ginger root and cut up her leeches into chunks. She gagged a couple time, and quickly looked around to see if anyone noticed. After five minutes went by, she added the rest of the ingredients and again stirred her potion 25 times in a counterclockwise motion. Adrienne sat back and let her potion simmer for 10 minutes. As it does, time went by and Adrienne examined her potion. It was gray, but not as smooth as she would have liked. She sighed and poured some of the contents of her potion into vials. She labled them, corked them, and placed one on Professor Branxton's desk. She went back to her seat and waited, her stomach churning at the thought of testing her potion.

c00kie stared at the instructions, she wasn't very good at brewing potions but she was determined to try. She entered the amount of water that was needed after carefully measuring it, then, she got 5 of the Joberknoll feathers. She was a little disgusted by the Frog Spawn but had managed to get through that. "Yuck." she whispered to herself before moving on to get the rest of the stuff she needed. She had already begun stirring it counterclockwise, and when she was done, she started to see shimmers.

Rave looked at the board and wrote down all of the ingredients as fast as she could. She started a fire under her cauldron waited until the water was boiling. After a few miutes she counted out and added five whole Joberknoll feathers. While they were boiling she pounded her frog spawn as best she could and added them aswell, then stirred them 25 times counterclockwise. While the potion was simmering she sliced her ginger root, cut the leeches into chunks, added them in and stirred another 25 times counterclockwise. She sat back in her chair and waited 10 minutes before taking her potion off the fire. It was a dark gray.
Rave filled a vial and brought it up to the professors desk.

Drusilla measures the water into her cauldron and adds the feathers when it starts to boil. She looks at her watch to have the exact time. She looks at the frog spawn. Funny, you wouldn´t think anything living could become out of this phlegm. She doesn´t bother to think about the frogs that now are never going to be born out of this spawn, but pounds it rather calmly just in time to get it into the water after five minutes of feather-boiling. She tries not to think about the poor leeches, though.
She carefully stirs the potion 25 times counterclockwise and checks her watch again. After slicing carefully the ginger root, she has to face the truth: potion making includes almost allways something snakelike to be chopped or sliced or something. She takes a deep breath, closes her eyes and does what she´s got to do. "Ouch!" she says as she accidently cuts her finger. Luckily it´s only a minor wound. Ginger and leeches ... she thinks ... maybe I ought to imagine these leeches were liquorice. She suddenly feels a bit childish and glances a fast look around to see if anyone noticed, like you could see such things on a persons face. She takes a deep breath again before adding the rest of the ingredients. Stir 25 times counterclockwise, she thinks mechanically.
After some seconds she startles: she had forgot to look at her watch. Is the potion allready starting to work, she thought suspiciously, but knew she was being stupid. After about ten minutes of simmering the potion was smooth, but maybe a tad too dark shade of grey. Wrongly chopped, or then it was the timing, she thought to herself. She might have boiled it a few seconds too much to make sure she didn´t undercook it. On the other hand, she wasn´t quite sure what kind of greyness was wanted.
While filling the vials she thinks who the poor guineapig might be this time. Well, let´s hope it´s a house elf, she thinks.

Rose copied everything off the board and began. Rose measured 500mL of water and poured it in her cauldron. She brought the water to a boil and added the five Joberknoll feathers and let it boil for five mintutes without stirring it. After pounding the two frog spawns with mortar and pestle, she added it to the feathers and stirred it 25 times counterclockwise. Rose let it simmer for five minutes and, then, added 2g of sliced ginger root and 2 leeches cut into chunks and stirred it 25 times counterclockwise. She allowed it to simmer for 10 minutes. It turned out gray, but it wasn't that smoothe. Rose was satisfied with herself and she filled two vials of it. She stoppered on vial and labeled it. Rose waited impatiently to try the other vial of Forgetfulness Potion.

Ozzy studied the black board carefully then sliced the ginger roots into even pieces and the two leeches as he had the ginger roots, he measured the 500 ml of water into his cauldron, ignited the flame, brought it to a boil and added the Jaberknoll feathers. He pounded the frog spawn with mortar and pestle then added it to the water and feathers after it had boiled for 5 minutes without movement as directed, he then stirred the concoction 25 times counter clockwise and allwed it to simmer for five minutes before adding the sliced ginger root and the chunky looking leeches before stirring 25 times counter clockwise.
As he waited for the potion to simmer for ten minutes, he labled one of the two vials with his name, house, year and the name of the Potion, then jotted down some notes in his Potions notebook before extingushing the flame and ladling some of the smooth grey potion into the vial and placing the stopper on the top and set it aside before measuring a small ammount into the second. He held the vial in his right hand as he waited for Professor Braxton's ok to test it.

Forgetfulness Potion
Ingredients:
water (500 mL)
Joberknoll feather (5, whole)
Frog spawn (2, freshly pounded)
Ginger root (2g, sliced)
Leeches (2, cut)
Instructions:
* Bring water to a boil and add Joberknoll feathers. Boild for 5 minutes, no stirring.
* Pound frog spawn with mortar and pestle and add to feathers, stirring 25 times, counterclockwise. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes.
* Add sliced ginger root and leeches cut into chunks and stir 25 times counterclockwise. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes.
Potion should be smooth and gray.
Meghan dragged her cauldron over and set it up. She made sure that there was the right amount of water in it before she started to boil it. When it started to boil she added the Joberknoll feathers. She sat back while she waited for it to boil for 5 minutes. Since there was no stirring she sat back and read the rest of the directions 3 times through before looking back at her potion.
She pounded the frog spawn with mortar and pestle until it was perfectly pounded. Than she added it to the feathers. She than started to stir it 25 times counterclockwise. She started to count. One, two, three... When she got to 25 she sat back and allowed the potion to simmer for 5 minutes. She sighed, this was an easy potion and she was grateful for it.
She sliced ginger roots and cut into chunks some leeches. She then added them to the potion and stirred it counterclockwise. Again she counted to 25. When she finished that she let is simmer for 10 minutes. While she waited she took down a few notes about the potion and how it turned out for her and than prepared the two vials.
When the 10 minutes where done Meghan walked over and checked on her potion. It was incredibly smooth, but it was a dark grey. She wasn't sure what shade of grey it should have been so she crossed her fingers hoping that she wouldn't get marked down. She than filled her two vials with the potion. She put a stopper on one and marked the other for grading. She sighed, hoping she had done everything right. She didn't want to be the only one who got tested and failed.

| Technically technical all the time Bookaholic Professor Branxton paced around the room, making sure everything was in order while the students brewed. It was a simple enough potion that they shouldn't have any trouble. He walked back to his desk and sat down behind it, taking out some of his own notes and tutting quietly as he studied them. Once the students were done brewing, he made a few notations before locking the notes back up in his drawer and standing up.
"Very good. Now that you are done brewing, it is time to test the potion. Remember, this potion won't disorient you and you will remember who you are. You will just be a little absent-minded, such as forgetting that your wand is in your pocket or that homework is due tomorrow. You may forget the password to your common room or which staircase to take in order to get to Defence Against the Dark Arts. I would like you to pair up with another member of your house. You will be buddies for the rest of the day. One buddy will ingest a small vial of the potion and the other buddy will take notes as to their buddy's behavior, as the person taking the draught may forget to take them and will need someone with them should they find themselves in the middle of the corridor and forget where they were going. At the end of the day, you should come back here for the antidote.
"Your homework will be to write about your feelings and observations. Both buddies should provide this information. We will share our experiences in a special discussion class. If you wish, you may ask permission to reverse roles and write up an additional report on your observations and feelings for extra credit after you've received the antidote.
"Are there any questions?"
ooc: Okay, this is a little complicated so, I'll explain what we'll do here.
1) You will partner up here in this thread (if you can't find a partner, PM me- I don't want to exclude anyone because they don't know anyone. If we have to, we can partner up with members of other houses). I'll post the partners for all of our reference so be sure you clearly state in your posts or PM me who your partner is.
2) RP throughout the school (Hallways, Common Rooms, Great Hall, other classes, anywhere and everywhere) for 48 hours. We'll call that 'till the end of the day' for our purposes so that as many people as want to participate can.
3) Come back to this thread and Professor Branxton will administer the antidote to everyone. (I'll post everyone returning and getting their antidotes by 10am EST on Friday regardless of whether everyone has 'returned' or not).
4) If you want to switch partners and do the extra credit, or if you missed the fun and want a second shot at it, post talking to Branxton and he'll give you your potion. The extra credit will start the next day RP-time which will be whenever he gives you the potion and will end on Sunday at 10pm EST.
5) Your homework and extra credit write ups will be due on Friday, February 24th by 10am EST. The special discussion class will start then.
You can participate in as much or as little of this as you want but, the more you participate, the more points you'll be able to earn. I know this sounds really complicated but, I'm sure it will be more clear once we jump into it. I wanted to try something new and different since I've been teaching pretty much the same way for 7 terms now. Time to shake things up a little. Thanks for being my guinea pigs.
Okay, I just read through this and I think I need a summary for all our sanity. LOL
2/15 9amEST - 2/17: partner up and RP effects of potion
2/17 10amEST: return to class for antidote
2/17 10amEST - 2/19: take antidote and do extra credit RP
2/19 10pmEST: return for antidote/end of assignment
2/24 10amEST: homework due: write your observations and feelings during your assignment and/or extra credit
2/24: special discussion class
