The Defense classroom was looking clean and bright, and Rae smiled at the obvious effort of the house elves. She settled behind her desk with a quill and parchment, prepared for her first lesson of the term.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Okay, I love how excited everyone is getting, but let's try to keep things under control here. What I'm asking is this... you may post that you arrived, you may respond to my questions, and within reason... to the questions and responses of others. You may NOT spam, chat with classmates, or otherwise jam-pack the thread. Sebastian really wanted to hear the story, but didn't feel it necessary to say so. The class had already given a unanimous consensus for the story.

He sat back and waited for the Headmistress to start.

Mithos loved stories. "Please, do tell us, Professor." He said with his hand up. Although, Professor Rae's Auror days could bring her memories she didn't need right now but other wouldn't probably put a smile on her face. Memories are nice, but that's all they are.

Kalaya made sure she had all the key points of the lesson so far written down before she set her quill down. She wanted to hear the tale.

"I don't care what any teacher says. A highly skilled brown-noser is always welcome in my class," she laughed. "Well, thank you for placating an old lady. I wanted to tell you about a time in which we had to use our creativity to get out of a perilous situation. You can ask Professor Lainey about it, if you want." Rae slid off the desk and clasped her hands in anticipation of the story.

"Now, it was back when Anjelica and I had first become Aurors. We thought we were so clever, and we were sent on a mission to check out some prospective Death Eaters in Southern Wales and we were not... keen to listen to the older members of our group. Including my future husband Alexander... I don't know why he put up with me." She smiled fondly and began to gesture with her hands. "Now, we got to this house, and Anj and I went ahead to try to win the glory for ourselves. We called it "reconnaissance" though." She paused, to make sure they were all still with her. This was ridiculous, but it did illustrate her point rather well.

Headmistress Rae and Professor Lainey had been aurors!? Awesome! Sebastian hadn't ever heard that and he was extremely excited. The story sounded like it was going to be an adventure story.

He sat on the edge on his seat, showing every little bit of attention so Rae would continue. He knew that Defense Against the Dark Arts would probably end up one of his favorite subjects.

Lee blushed slightly as the Professor talked about brown nosers, he hoped she wasn't talking about him. Lee sat almost on the edge of his seat in intrest, he had no idea Lainey and Rae used to be old aurors together, he just thought they became friends when they started working at the school. Lee waited for the rest...

"Anyway, we get to the house, and the chap has a crup. I'm sure you've seen Professor Zoa's, so you know they're little and a bit fierce, and generally quite loyal. All in all, not something that your average Auror should worry about. But we decide that the crup is making so much noise and is being so very annoying that we'll go in through the back instead."

Rae's eyes widen comically. "I kid you not when I tell you that this man... was crazy about Dark creatures. We found this out later, but my circumventing the crup at the front door, we walked around the house and right into a nest of lethifolds he was illegally harvesting for invisibility cloaks. If you don't know about lethifolds, they can be driven off with a well-done Patronus. I have no idea why Anj couldn't perform one, but I was too busy feeling bad that I'd die without giving Alexander a chance to say 'I told you so.'" She was laughing at herself again.

"So the lethifolds are coming at us... one of them might have been on Anj already... and I tried to shoot sparks for help. Instead, I ignited the house on fire." She shrugged. "Turned out to be rather effective, as the lethifolds thrive in dark, dank places. The heat and light from the fire drove them away, and we ran for it." She was laughing by now, her words less than perfectly audible. "In conclusion... you never know what you'll need to protect yourself."

Lee's eyes widened as he began to laugh hysterically. Lainey and Rae seemed so much more professonial to ever once be screw ups, once he calmed down a smile stuck on his face. He true a small picture on a spare piece of parchment reflecting the story. Tapping it three times with his wand it began to move, Lee chuckled slightly. He levitated the drawing and placed it in front of Rae's face. "For your office wall ma'am," Lee said kindly.

Afton sat there with her mouth slightly open. She had known her and Lainey had been aurors, but she hadn't gotten into any details...she chuckled at the thought of them being screw ups.

Linnea giggled, I wonder if Professor Lainey knows that Headmistress Rae enjoys telling us embarassing stories abouth themselves?

Sebastian chuckled. He knew quite well what Lethifolds were, as he had had to read a little bit about them for their Care of Magical Creatures homework.

The story seemed a little odd, but the Headmistress had told it so well that it was funny. He could tell he would like it here at Hogwarts. His brother was right. It was home.

Heshasa gasped Professor Dainsie gad recently taught them about Lethifolds. Heshasa gave a little shiver. Smiling at how Professor Rae escaped she took down a few notes.

"Alright, alright... enough frivolity," Rae said with a smile. "Suffice it to say, we went back with the rest of the team and took care of everything. And Alexander never rubbed it in my face, which was good of him. Let's move on, however... I want us to focus for the next... third of our lesson on the Ministry of Magic creature classification system. You may use your text book for this. What system is in place for demonstrating how dangerous a creature is?"

This story made Mithos smile. He would like to see Professor Lainey's face if she was here. Professor Rae and Professor Lainey had been good friends for a long while. Mithos knew enough about lethifolds, Professor Dainsie had introduced them to her class.
