DADA Lesson 1 The Defense classroom was looking clean and bright, and Rae smiled at the obvious effort of the house elves. She settled behind her desk with a quill and parchment, prepared for her first lesson of the term. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Okay, I love how excited everyone is getting, but let's try to keep things under control here. What I'm asking is this... you may post that you arrived, you may respond to my questions, and within reason... to the questions and responses of others. You may NOT spam, chat with classmates, or otherwise jam-pack the thread. I will give you one chance, but if I have to remind you more than once, you will not be permitted to participate in this class. Thanks! |
Lee was almost skipping into the first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson this term. He had been unable to attend the lessons last term for his own reasons. He took a seat near the back, still quite afraid of the Headmistress after the detention they spent with each other. Lee chucked a smile her way and then avoided eye contact by pretending to observe the classroom's artefacts and portraits and such. |
Davina walked into class and sat down.She realised that her professor was already there and smiled at her,then greeted her politely before sitting down. |
Jen entered the classroom and was surprised to see it fairly empty. She couldn't remember ever being early for class. "Hello Professor," she said as she made her way to a seat near the middle of the room. After she set down her bag, she removed a quill and some parchment and waited for the lesson to begin. |
Alex entered the DADA Classroom and gave the Professor a small nod. "Professor Rae," she greeted politely before making her way to her usual seat at the very back of the classroom. The girl sat down and took out a piece of parchement and a quill while waiting quietly for class to begin. |
Anelreas entered the classroom with a small smile on her lips. Tobias lurked after her, his tail high and doing his best to look dignified. Anelreas bowed her head to the Professor in greeting. "Good day, Professor." Although she saw Alex in the back, she took a seat two rows ahead of the fellow Slytherin. |
:: Lauren walked into the classroom. She immediately headed to the back of the room and sat down. She pulled her long blonde hair out from underneathe her as she sat. She took out her book and her notes along with a quill and ink. She than sat and waited, QUIETELY.:: |
Rae smiled at the students as they entered. She nodded at Lee. He certainly looked nervous, but perhaps that was her fault for poisoning him in detention last term. "Good day to you," she greeted the other students with a smile and a small nod. It was good to be back and teaching. |
pauline walked into her DADA lesson. she took a seat and got out her wnad and book and waited for further instructions. |
Mithos entered the classroom relieved. This wasn't one of the classes his feet had to drag his into. As always, Mithos walked towards the front of the room and on his way he smiled at Professor Rae. "Good to see you again, Professor." He said, he didn't lie, he did like Professor Rae. She was much safer than other Professors in this school and she was the Ravenclaw Head of House a couple terms ago, he had to like her. He sat down, unfortunately he saw Lee, but he didn't mind much. |
Sebastian slipped into the common room and sat near the back. He took out his Defense Against the Dark Arts book and smiled at the teacher. |
Franki sat in her seat. She was extremely excited as this was her first DADA lesson ever. She was only hoping that the homework wouldn't be too bad. |
Rae rose and came around to sit on the front of her desk. This was so familiar a position now. Sitting on her desk, chatting with the students. It was perfect. "Let's go ahead and get started. I have two things I want us to work on today in class, and they're completely unrelated. I hope you can stick with me." She grinned and flipped her braid over her shoulder. "First, we need to chat a bit about the Dark Arts as a precursor. Get out your quills and parchment, please. You'll want to write this down." |
Davina took out A GUIDE TO SELF PROTECTION BY QUENTIN TRIMBLE and began to read. Davina looked up as professor Rae spoke.Upon hearing her instruction,she pulled out her quill and parchment |

Sebastian quickly reached into his bag and grabbed a quill, along with a long piece of parchment. He opened his ink bottle and dipped the tip of the quill in, getting ready for Headmitsress Rae to talk. |

Jen had already taken out her quill and parchment so she picked up the quill and held it loosely in her hand. She dipped it into an ink bottle and waited to see what they would be taking notes on. |
"Alright, let's begin. I want us to all come from the same basic understanding of the Dark Arts, but let me tell you a bit about my own philosophy. I'm not going to teach you to perform Dark spells or brew Dark potions, but I am going to introduce you to some of the Darkest sides of our world. I do this... well... for what reason? Why do I bother coming in here and teaching you silly duelling spells and showing you ugly animals?" |
Lee hurriedly rummaged through his bag for a quill and some parchment. He was scared that if he didn't Rae would deduct points and Hufflepuff didn't stand at a very good place with the points, not that that had ever changed. Waiting for Rae to continue he began to play with his hair. She began to talk asking them random questions that Lee was slightly confused about but raised his hand anyways, "To give us a small understanding and primary knowledge on the subject instead of just taking your professional word on it Professor?" |
Mithos took out parchment and his quill. He dipped it in ink and watched Professor Rae attentively, he didn't want to distract himself with something and miss part of the lesson. |

Sebastian wrote down every word the professor spoke. The subject seemed so interesting and he also wanted to know what to right his end-of-term paper on. |
Ali took a pause from taking notes, thought about the question, and raised his hand. "Would it be so that we know how to handle life, if bad things happen, sort of like protection?" |
