There are four gumball machines near the exit to the sweet shop. They have been charmed to accept wizarding money instead of muggle money. If you have any knuts in your pocket that you are just dying to get rid of, why not buy a few gumballs with them? All you have to do is place the two knuts inside the little slot, turn the knob, and watch as the gumball travels down the maze and to the little compartment at the bottom where you may receive your gumball. Enjoy!
Remember 2 knuts = 1 gumball!

Spencer's weekends with his mum were great, she truly believed he was a sweetheart who didn't at all need to be closely watched every second of the day. Once he even deliberately barged into a doddering old lady who was stowing her money into a pouch as she walked, sending the coins flying and giving lovely little Spencer the opportunity to grab some from the ground and scarper.
He dodged through the crowd and into Sugarplums, glancing over his shoulder to make sure he hadn't been followed before, smirking, he strutted across to one of the gumball machines. First order of business? Use up all these knuts on gumballs. Regina had been in an awful mood lately. For one, even after she got her Hogwarts letter, she was unceremoniously informed by her parents that she would not be attending that school. Even though all her friends and cousins were going there! In fact, she'd be going to another school nearly on the other side of the world, where she knew hardly anyone.
And not only that, but ever since Alejandro had gone missing for a couple days, her parents watched her like a hawk. Even though he returned just fine and she was eleven years old for Circe's sake! Not to mention that she practically grew up on Diagon Alley with her Papa working at the Daily Prophet. She almost couldn't wait to go to school, even if it wasn't where she wanted to go, if only so she wouldn't get treated like a baby.
The eleven year old found herself at Sugarplum's now though, with her Mama and hermano not far off in another part of the store. Ridiculous. But she wandered as far away from them as possible so it would feel like she was on her own - and that was at the gumball machines.
She saw Spencer when he walked in, before he made it all the way over by her. And he looked... suspicious. More so than usual. Raising an eyebrow, she looked him over, saving a smile for later. "Hi, Spencer... getting some sweets?" That would be the obvious assumption, but wait.... he got to go off on his own? He was younger than her!

He ran a hand through his red-dyed hair, silky and shiny, feeling a bit suave with it to be honest. It was still very new, and he had missed his flaming orange hair from last summer. What was it that Baylen called him? Tomato? No...CARROT! Right now he was tomato. Baylen STILL called him carrot even when his hair had been a natural human color. Lucas didn't mind much, he found it an affectionate term now, but he just wondered what nicknames THIS hair could bring. Maeve turned when someone said her name and squinted up at him. OH she knew himmmm ... maybe ... was he the one who Chase talked to?? Looked up to? He wasn't in Gryffindor House, Maeve was almost sureeeee of that.
Was it obvious that she was having trouble? Probably.
"Uh yah. I put two knuts in and it seems to be ... jammed or something ?" She frowned. Kick it? She kind of lacked muscle over here. She wasn't an athlete in the slightest ... so yea. Although maybe her little bit of a nudge could help? "Push?" She finished of his sentence and leaned into the machine to try and shove it. Only, as one could expect from her small frame, nothing happened.

After his daring escape, Spencer hadn't been expecting anyone to suddenly call out his name - though in retrospect naturally everyone would have noticed someone so cool and popular entering their midst. But at that moment, he really hadn't been expecting it, and he gave a sudden start of surprise which probably made him look extra shifty.
He realised instantly who it was, of course, and his surprise faded as he processed the voice and the sight of its owner.
"Hi Regina," he replied, attempted to inject some of that swagger back into his voice and general being. "Yep! There's a bunch of gumballs in here with my name on them." As he was right by one of the machines, he stuffed a couple of knuts into the mechanism and started turning the knob, while looking back at Regina. "Have you been school shopping?" Regina was older than him by a whole year, more or less, which meant Spencer had remembered that she was off to school this term, though he incorrectly assumed that that school would be Hogwarts.
