Benadi...

Two best friends, first real close during school and now inseparable as they start the rest of their lives together.

Benadi Apartment: Two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Their first very own home close to school.

Cassiopeia's Cafe: A friendly cafe owned by Benny's mother

Rehman House: The childhood home of Adi, home of Saieed and Indira Rehman

Wizarding University: Edinburgh Campus of the school, where Benny and Adi take classes towards their degrees.

Scene 1 : Cassiopeia's Cafe

Ben's mom's cafe was chosen as the location for the ritual meeting of the families. Aka the first full Atreyu-Rehman get-together. The one where the boys tell their loved ones the truth about their relationship and see just how they react.

“It’s fine, Adi,” he assured his other half, waving off the offer of help with Sanjana. “We can look into both options and weigh them out,” he suggested to keep both options in mind. There wasn’t anything Benny automatically had against either, even Adi’s cousin’s involvement. Though he did have to wonder if another surrogacy meant the chance of more multiple children like the surprise twins.

Maybe that was a con.

Or was it?

Maybe more kids wouldn’t be all that bad. Though it was a reason to put a little distance between their would-be fourth child so they didn’t have such a handful so close in age. “Either way we’ll have our family to love.” That was what really mattered which made him smile and reach to take Adi's hand.

Indeed they could look into both options and eventually decide which option they wanted to work with. Him? His mind was leaning towards surrogacy again even though he didn’t mind adoption once more. Especially now that they had twins who were looking more and more like Benny: the fair hair and complexion. They were perfection.

Adi snuggled close to Benny then rested his head on the other guy’s shoulder. “Mhmm. We will. Somehow I get the feeling that after kiddo number four, you’ll be drawing the line.’’ Adi was surprised to find that he wouldn’t mind. Maybe he was getting old or maybe everything was now catching up with him.

Who knew?

As Adi shifted against him, he slipped his arm around him, enjoying the closer contact as they snuggled. The pressure on his shoulder kept Benny from shrugging in answer however as the hubby voiced his thoughts. Would he stick with the original number...or cave?

“Hmm…” the dragon simply mused, staring out over the railing over their balcony. “You’ll just have to wait to find out.” And he was leaving it at that as he leaned and kissed the dark mop of hair. For he was simply leaving it open ended until all was said and done. And who knew…maybe Adi himself wouldn’t be so sure anymore of having more kids.

This was one of those things in their relationship that would never get old (not that there was anything that Adi thought was getting old between them) : their cuddling. He always found it so comforting to be able to do this each day with Benny especially if the day happened to be stressful and long. Balancing Gobstones, the creature and their kiddos can be exhausting at times.

And there was his hubby keeping him on his toes with a vague answer. But Adi didn’t mind. “We’ll see what the future holds,’’ he agreed and was quite happy with being kissed. He himself got more comfy by snuggling more into Benny and switching the angle of his head to meet Benny’s lips.

"Mhmm..." That they would. A future that always seemed so bright. The dragon closing his eyes as Adi shifted to meet his kiss. Sneaky hippogriff. These were the moments Benny was grateful still lingered in between the family time. Just the two of them.

March 2101

March was always a tricky month…still technically winter, especially where they were on the coast, but it could have its not so chilly moments much like today. Just a slight breeze reminding them it WAS still the third month of the year. Benny was certainly in the mood not to waste the mild warmth of the day so an outdoor outing was just what the dragon ordered. And no time like the present for a certain milestone Adi had been talking about lately.

“Someone’s going on an adventure…” he mused playfully as he packed up stuff for Dynah and Nadia for the day on the grounds. Adi’s mother got to spend the day with her youngest grandchild with the usual spoiling commencing, especially if a certain great uncle was also involved in the scenario.

The eight-year-old in question was incredibly curious as to just what his adventure was to be, unconsciously bouncing on his toes every once in a while. “What is it…what is it?” he asked, looking first at his Papa who remained silent and then to his Daddy. What was so special about today?

It seemed to Adi that they rarely had their four kids together for too long. It was understandable since the grandparents always were eager to spend time with the grandkids. He was missing little Aryan but his mother and uncle were taking good care of his son, Adi knew. He drew his attention from Dynah and Nadia, who were both quiet for now- especially Dynah who was seemingly the louder of the two- to look at his and Benny’s oldest.

Raj was eight years old already. WHEN did that happen? Where did the time go so quickly?

Adi decided to put his son out of misery. “You know how you’re always looking at the hippogriffs from afar? Well, what do you think of getting up close and personal with one or two of them today?”

Rajesh unconsciously tilted his head just a little at the first question. “Uh huh…” he mused simply, not even sure he was supposed to answer, though it all went out the window as his daddy continued on with his questions. The boy’s eyes going wide in surprise. “Can I?!!” Oh that was one excited boy they had there. He was all for getting up close and personal with the majestic, winged beasts his daddy worked with.

Benny couldn’t help but laugh at the reaction Raj gave to his father’s questions. It was clear that despite not being blood, their eldest child had acquired the family love of animals. Well they had grown up on a preserve and surrounded by all sorts after all. “I’d certainly take that as a yes,” the dragonologist mused as if he needed to interpret the eight-year-old’s excitable reaction. They'd just need to tone it down just a bit when they actually did get up close. Introductions were best done calmly and courteously.

Raj’s reaction was as Adi had hoped. All the enthusiasm! It reminded Adi exactly of how he had been when he first came across an actual Hippogriff. Yep, he had been this excited. It also pleased him to see that his first son had a soft spot for creatures like his fathers. Adi grinned over at Benny. “Same, babe.’’ Which reminded him… “You’re coming with us, right? You can always check in with the dragons afterwards.’’ In the meanwhile, there were more than enough competent workers to overlook the dragons until Benny could check on them.

“Come on then, Raj. Let’s go give you that date with a griff.’’ Adi reached out to ruffle Raj’s hair, much like he often did with his own before turning to head out. What a day it was going to be! He could feel it in his bones, it was going to be a great one, especially once Raj got friendly with the griffs.

Sure Benny was aware Adi was just as excited about what was to transpire. He was just keeping more of a cool than their eldest. “Of course,” he remarked as he moved to free Dynah from her chair once he was done packing. “Not going to miss that moment there.” Pure magical memory right there. No doubt with joy upon both the face of father and son. Benny would have to see about photographic evidence if he could chance a glance from the twins.

"We’ll just be at a more respectful distance playing audience,” he added, setting the girl on her feet for the moment as he switched to her sister. They would have their own up close and personal meetings when they were older and he and Adi could be more certain they didn't have to worry too much about the potential for trouble arising.

He half-squirmed with a laugh as Adi ruffled his hair. “Daaaaadd----” Less hair ruffles more creatures please. Rajesh was trying to calm himself down so he could behave. He certainly didn’t want to lose his chance with the hippogriff. “Ready!” A bright smile still drawn across his face as he stood waiting for his father’s lead.

Adi laughed too, quite sure that his son was impatient. But hair ruffles were important. Mhmm! He looked around at Benny getting the twins out of their chair. Merlin knew how he and the hubby handled four kids. Luckily, Raj was old enough to start doing a few things on his own and the grandparents were always wanting to spend time with this or that grandchild. Adi picked up Dynah, lifting her small weight comfortably. “Ready to go outside?’’ he asked Dynah, booping his nose against hers. The result was a giggle from the girl. "All set, Benny?" Adi tickled Nadia under the chin before turning back to Raj. “Help your papa with the bag, please.’’

And then he was off, heading out through the door, Dynah in one arm. Over his shoulder, he asked Raj, whom he was assuming was following, “So. What do you know about Hippogriffs, Raj?’’ It was always best to test the kiddos’ knowledge first, yeah?

Benny could not help smiling at the laughter elicited by Adi with his antics. The girls were a giggling bunch of cuties when they wanted to be, often with their Daddy as the instigator. A husband cute and full of mirth in his own right. “Mhmm…all set.” Dynah in her daddy’s arms and Nadia in his own, the dragon handing the packed bag off to Raj to handle that burden. “Lead on Macduff.” The hippogriff expert and lover the leader of this little expedition after all.

He was merely the assistant explorer.

Rajesh obediently took the pack from his papa and slung it over his shoulder with only a minor hiccup as it wasn’t all too heavy. The weight however working to keep the bouncing feeling that threatened to return with his excitement at bay as he awaited following the elder man. Right…responsibility first. Then fun. He had to prove that he was ready and it wasn’t a mistake to trust him.

Was Dynah’s little weight growing heavier with each step he took from their house to the reserve? If so, Adi didn’t feel a thing. What he did know was that in a few years he wouldn’t be able to lift his newest babies as much as he liked; and then he wouldn’t be able to lift them at all as was the case of Raj. Speaking of Raj… Adi glanced over his shoulder. “Fallen asleep there, Raj?” Maybe the boy hadn’t heard the earlier Hippogriff question because he was too distracted by the bag. “What do you know about griffs?’’

Nearer to the Reserve they went. It was just enough so that Adi could hear the first sounds of the day that belonged to the dragons. The griffs were quieter usually but the dragon sounds turned the head of Dynah for she began looking off into the general distance of the creatures. It wasn’t the first time that the twins heard the dragons but Dynah at least never showed any fear.

Benny was careful to keep his steps relatively level on the uneven ground as Nadia leaned against him so he didn’t jostle her too much. She could be quite a cuddler when up in someone’s arms and he often wondered if she felt she needed that extra security in her position off the ground. Not that the dragon minded the closeness of his middle children. They would grow up and want more independence soon enough.

Fallen asleep?

His Daddy’s question drew him out and made Raj realize he had let his mind wander on what was to come, his movements slowed in the process. The older boy quickened his pace to catch up a little as he sought his memory for answers. “They are part eagle…” he started, blanking momentarily. Come on Raj, he nudged his brain clouded with his excitement. What did the hippo part mean? “Part horse.” Comfortable on both land and in the air.

Nadia soon enough reacted to the dragons as well, Benny feeling her shift in his grasp. “The dragons say hello, huh?” he mused, gaining a nod from the girl. Her eyes filled with curiosity, even if she tended to be more tentative than her sister. The dragon keeper only half-listening to Raj and his answer.

Soon enough, they came close to the HUGE Hippogriff enclosure. Adi cast a quick but keen glance over to the precious griffs going about their business. All seemed well and the ground staff was already getting the usual daily activities started. Adi turned so that his back was now facing the griffs. His attention was now on Raj. “Correct,’’ he said with a smile, pleased that his son was knowledgeable about the creatures. The basics were always the best place to start. “Any idea how you would go about greeting them?”

From behind him came the occasional familiar sounds of griffs pawing at the ground or a snort and two from them. “Remember, Raj. Hippogriffs are very proud creatures and proper etiquette is key.’’ Adi shifted Dynah from one arm to the other as he looked towards Benny and Nadia. The hubby seemed occupied by the twin held in his arms.

The hippogriffs were nearly as vocal as the dragons had been, albeit not nearly as loud but more because of their relative size than lack of trying. Rajesh heard them before they even came close to their enclosure and his excitement grew once more. He stopped and turned to Adi as praise was given and the next question raised to him.

How did one greet them?

The mention of pride struck his memory. “We bow…” he answered, his answer sounding not quite certain despite it made the most sense. You had to show reverence to the creatures which wasn’t something Raj was a stranger to. His fathers made sure of that…the importance of caring for animals.

Benny couldn’t help but smile at their eldest correct responses, looking to meet Adi’s gaze as the hubby stopped and turned towards them. Well mostly Rajesh as the boy was being tested. Like daddy like son it was clear, though he left the vocal praise to his other half. Like there was any doubt a child of theirs would be rude and mistaken around hippogriffs. The better for their future COMC professors when the time came.

As Adi questioned Raj,he couldn’t help but remember who had been his influence for joining the magical creatures' side: Newt Scamander. Yep. The way Newt handled, researched, wrote and treated creatures was a huge impact. Plus, it helped that creatures liked Adi back, especially hippogriffs. He turned his attention back to Raj. “That’s correct. We maintain eye contact WHILE bowing to them. That is VERY important.’’ He couldn’t stress that enough. “If the Hippogriff is stubborn and refuses to bow, back away slowly.’’ He looked intently at his son, trusting that his words had made an impact. Raj was intelligent; Adi was sure that he would understand.

The man moved over to Benny. “Here, babe. Another twin for you.’’ Grinning, he held out Dynah carefully. “Let’s see how Raj does with his first griff.’’ Truthfully, he was optimistic. “Come on, Raj. Let’s go introduce you to a griff.”

Gingerly approach…bow to them while maintaining eye contact. “Right,” he said with a nod, clearly understanding the words and look sent his way. Back away real fast in hopes of relative safety if the hippogriff acts up. All of it repeating over and over in his head not wanting to make one mistake. He’d get it right and Mr…or Miss Hippogriff would be all welcoming to him. Giving up the bag, Raj followed Adi further into the enclosure, ready to get to work meeting his new friend.

And doing his Daddy proud.

Benny took back the bag from Raj, knowing the boy didn’t need any hindrances while working with the hippogriff. With it now slung over his free shoulder, he set Nadia down to toddle beside him hand in bigger hand before accepting Dynah with a “Hello Sweetie.” And lowering her to take his other hand. “Got it…we’ll be watching,” he mused, ready to follow only to be close enough to see but perched off to the side to out of the way and safe of any accidents.

Adi had already chosen one of the Hippogriffs for Raj to practice on. It was one of the most gentle of griffs and as he came into the enclosure, it could be seen quite clearly for he had yesterday asked the help to keep the griff isolated this morning. Before them stood a handsome, chestnut coloured griff. Adi, even after all these years, found himself staring at the creature with a feeling of wonder as its huge wings spread and it tossed its head.The man stood there in silence, fully appreciating the wonder and transcendence of this experience.

Luckily, he snapped out of it after a moment. This was Raj’s time. The griff was a fair distance away from where they stood so they were safe. “That’s Smokey. He’s one of the more friendlier griffs on the reserve.’’ Adi eyed Raj. “I didn’t choose him because I don’t believe in you. It’s just that a lot of other kids meet their first griff when they’re a bit older than you. Once you’ve mastered the greeting, you’ll meet the ones that can be aggressive.’’ He then smiled encouragingly. “Whenever you’re ready, give it a shot.”

Raj had to admit that the closer he got to meeting a hippogriff one on one, the more his nerves threated to return. He didn’t want to mess things up and didn’t want anyone to get hurt and it was still a wild creature. However, as he spotted the one before him, his awe and curiosity was a great buffer. The boy froze as he watched the one called Smokey, brought out of his thoughts as his daddy introduced him. Right…friendly. He didn’t mind not meeting the others just yet. It wasn’t like they were going anywhere but remaining on the family preserve.

“Hi…um…hello,” he spoke tentatively., swallowing as he mentally went over what he needed. Raj took a couple of small slow steps closer, watching the creature and doing his best to keep its gaze. Then he stopped and lowered his upper half to bow, momentarily breaking the look but quickly fixing that mistake and hoping all would still be well enough.

Benny and his duo were settled on the ground at their perch, the contents of his pack spread out to distract his charges so his own attention could be struck between his girls and the scene before them. He was nervous too, not so much for danger as he trusted his husband to be able to handle most if not all issues that might arise. But wondering in all curiosity how Rajesh would handle himself and however today’s meeting ended.

Adi hung back, his usual bouncy and flamboyant personality was replaced with one of focus and alertness. Was he worried about Raj? No, not in the least. His confidence in his son was still high and if things got out of hand, Adi was there along with the help and Benny. His gaze switched between the hippogriff and Raj. So far, the son was doing a great job…

Until…

He broke his eye contact with the griff. Before Adi could help it he was rolling his eyes and shaking his head twice before he caught himself. No, that was foolish of him and the last thing Raj needed to see, especially since the boy must be feeling nervous. Before he could remedy his mistake, Raj had already gone back to the griff. Adi felt some tenseness creeping into him now as he watched for the creature’s response.

Human eyes meeting hippogriff ones, Rajesh was waiting for a reaction. Good or bad. Any sort of reaction that might give him a clue as to what his next move should be. Smokey didn’t seem to be freaking out because of his mistake. Nor his daddy. The boy was hoping that was a good sign, that he hadn’t totally wrecked his chances to make friends today. Not like he could look back. And questioning might make it seem like he wasn’t ready at all. There was only one real way to find out and that was to push forward, Raj taking a deep breath and another small step towards his winged companion.

“Hello…” he greeted a bit more solidly, keeping their eyes met head on. Confidence. Confidence was something that had to be there as much as courtesy to Smokey right? It showed the hippogriff that you had the respect to give the time and effort let them make the choice but also were brave enough to take the chance. "I'm Raj..." the boy added, introducing himself like he would if Smokey was human.

Adi decided that he wouldn’t let Raj suffer much longer in regard to the agony of finding out if Smokey would be bending his scaly knees. In his countless experience with the creatures, some were more stubborn than the others. Smokey hadn’t given him any reason to doubt that he was gentle or super friendly. But just as he was about to step in, Smokey bent those knees. Must have been Raj introducing himself in addition to the proper etiquette.

Grinning, Adi stepped a bit closer to the duo. “Great job, Raj.’’ Proud. This man was PROUD. “You can go ahead and pat him. Or you can feed him if you like.” There were lots of dead, small mammals available. Secretly, Adi wanted Raj to go flying on Smokey but… was that too much?

Benny let out the captured breath that he hadn’t even been aware he had been holding when Smokey finally moved in a positive response, the hippogriff bowing to their son. He couldn’t help the smile of pride, echoing the look clearly plastered over his husband’s face while he softly clapped wanting to acknowledge the achievement but not startle Smokey from the sidelines. It was a big day in their family for certain, hopefully one of many, the dragon’s gaze returning to the two under his watch.

Raj was more than a little relieved when his companion lowered its feathery body in echo of his own sign of respect. He hadn’t wrecked his chance after all. Pat and feed…Feed or pat. He was gonna stick with the first option for now and see how it progressed, slowly yet confidently walking right up to the hippogriff. “Nice to meet you too, Smokey,” he said, giving the creature a few pats as he smiled at his new friend. The boy careful not to ruffle any feathers.

“Are you hungry?” he asked after a few more, not really expecting any answer since it wasn’t like the hippogriff could speak. It's just what you asked a friend...even if he was part bird part horse and not entirely sure how to progress.

The wind carried Benny’s cheering, or so Adi thought since the applause was a round of short ones. He looked over to the husband to give him a grin and a thumbs up. Adi knew that Benny had been waiting for the outcome of this exercise with some nerves. They could all breathe easily now, minus the twins; the little blonds didn’t seem too interested in what their older brother was up to. Chuckling at the thought, Adi turned back to Raj, taking a few paces to close the distance between them.

Smokey definitely was enjoying the pets because he had his eyes closed and was leaning into Raj’s hand. “Well, he surely likes you,’’ Adi spoke up, completely pleased about this. It also meant he was right with his own judgement about choosing Smokey for the task. At Raj’s question, the griff grunted with a toss of the head. But Adi was already a step ahead for a few dead ferrets were non-verbally summoned. “Just feed them to him one at a time. You can toss them to him.’’

Rajesh couldn’t help giggling as Smokey leaned into his grasp, the feathers of his neck and face tickling the skin of his palms. “Uh huh…” he managed in response to the comment. It certainly seemed that way, like any other animal, especially the more common pets and familiars showed their affection. He froze however as the hippogriff tossed his head but relaxed when it didn’t appear to be a threatening reaction. Just a head nod to the affirmative, which was a relief, gaining another pat or two to the creature once Smokey was relaxed once more.

Before he could debate on the best approach to retrieving the food, the ferrets came floating close to him handled by outside sources. The boy chancing a look at his daddy with a look of appreciation. “Right…” Raj remarked to show he got it, picking up the first dead creature to handle. “Here you go Smokey,” tossing the ferret for the hippogriff to eat.Already picking up another to be ready.
