Benadi...

Two best friends, first real close during school and now inseparable as they start the rest of their lives together.
Benjamin Atreyu and Aditya Rehman are now on their own outside the normalcy and safety of the walls of Hogwarts.
Wizarding University and the great wide world await the boyfriends as they explore what its like to really be adults in the wizarding and muggle worlds.

Locations
Benadi Apartment: Two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Their first very own home close to school.

Cassiopeia's Cafe: A friendly cafe owned by Benny's mother

Rehman House: The childhood home of Adi, home of Saieed and Indira Rehman

Wizarding University: Edinburgh Campus of the school, where Benny and Adi take classes towards their degrees.

Scene 1 : Cassiopeia's Cafe

Ben's mom's cafe was chosen as the location for the ritual meeting of the families. Aka the first full Atreyu-Rehman get-together. The one where the boys tell their loved ones the truth about their relationship and see just how they react.

Adi moved to stand beside Benny, reaching or his hand. Such an important moment this why. And he was so sure that Raj was going to love his room! Or maybe just the bed and the comforter? The guy grinned when he saw his son had grabbed the comforter. Was it something with all kids? A sort of habit where they all would get attached to something? Maybe Raj's would be the comforter? Time would tell.

"Yup! All yours. You like it?'' Somehow Adi knew what the answer would be but he just wanted to make sure that everything was okay with Raj. It was a big change for the little guy. Almost unconsciously, he squeezed Benny's hand while waiting for the reply.

Benny knew without turning his eyes away from Raj that Adi had come up beside him, hand searching for his which the dragon gladly offered. He nearly moved when the boy grabbed for his bed, wondering if it was intentional or a reach for help on his feet. It seemed okay so Benny relaxed as he too awaited an answer.

All his? He had never had much that wasn’t shared with someone else or a hand me down. Especially not a room of his own. Letting go of the bed, the boy wandered over to the rocking chair. “Uh huh…” Rajesh answered with a nod, a big old grin on his face as he looked back at the adults. “Me like.”

He turned his head to look at his husband at the squeeze, returning it in kind as he leaned his head against him in relief. Raj liked it!

Adi perked up. That was a term Benny would use! Was his habit already rubbing off on Raj? "I think he's picking up one of your expressions,'' he said knowingly to the hubby. His eyes returned to Raj checking out the rocking chair. "You want to hop on up on that? Or would you want to see the rest of the house now?'' This was totally up to the little boy.

Feeling the head against him, Adi looked down at the top of Benny's blond head. Without words, he knew the dragon had been worried about Raj liking his new room. He put his arm around Benny's shoulders. "I doubt you have anything to worry about.''

Picking up on one of his expres---oh.

“Hate to say I’m not the only one in the world that says that.” Though Benny think it was going to be cool to see which one of them Rajesh took stuff from. Probably a happy mix of each of their little quirks perhaps. He watched and waited to see what the boy wanted to do, as willing as Adi to go with the flow and whatever his choice was. That was what life with kids was like after all, right? Your life centered around your child.

Rajesh had managed to figure out how to lower the seat of the rocker by pressing on it. However, Adi had gotten his attention away from the rocking chair in favor of exploring the rest of the house. This house he was visiting. “EspORE!!” he exclaimed, turning back on his previous target in favor of his two dads still in the room.

Was Benny being serious or not?

Adi simply shrugged and said, ''Yeah, but he had been spending a lot of time with us, hadn't he?'' He and Benny used to visit Raj at the House before he was adopted. Like a lot of visits. As, for the scene with Raj right now, he grinned when the toddler managed to lower the seat. The cute outburst of 'espore!' Made Adi burst out laughing.

Raj was beyond adorable.

How had he and Benny managed to adopt the cutest kid around?

"Well,'' Adi began, a signature grin in place. "How are you going to explore when you seem to be having fun with that chair?'' A.K.A being distracted by it.

Benny looked to his husband before straightened up off of Adi and looking once more to their son. “Yeah, I suppose he has,” he agreed, thinking about it. What with the initial time and check-ups and filling out paperwork and simply visits to get to know him so the change wasn’t too drastic. “Sure he’ll be picking up plenty of things from you,” he mused before teasing. “Merlin help me.” Cue joining in the laughter and amusement at Raj’ answer.He could certainly see the boy taking after his exuberant other half.

Merlin help them all.

Rajesh gave up on the chair completely, much preferring the idea of exploring instead. A bundle of energy and all that. So, he toddled back in the direction of the two men excited and ready to go. They would lead…right. So he could be a good boy and follow along. Still plenty of fun that way but not getting in trouble.

Adi made a face at Benny's remark. "You'll always love us both just as much,'' he said fondly and poking Benny in the side. "All those years of practice will be put into even more use.'' It was all he could do to keep himself from grabbing the hubby in a bear hug and snuggling with him ~~amongst other things~~ but Raj didn't need to see all of that.

Especially when their son was about to go explore his new home!

Adi looked behind him to make sure Raj was following. "First stop, the kitchen,'' he explained as he led the way to it. Any kid of his was expected to have a HUGE appetite; though if they didn't then that was just as fine. "Any favourite foods as yet, Raj?''

Yes…yes, he would love them regardless of what they put him through. Not like he could fault Rajesh for something he already was experienced with handling with Adi if that turned out to be the case. They were his family. Benny watched as the boy made his decision on what to do, the dragon letting his other half lead the way back out of the room and towards their next site of exploration.

Rajesh moved when Adi did, following the man inch by inch, foot by foot. Kitchen? He might by only a young boy, but he was familiar with kitchens. Though he hoped something better came out of their destination that the limited items the House chose to offer for their kids. As for favorite foods, Raj answered with not much of a hesitance to think…

“COOkies!!”

Benny closed his eyes and shook his head at the answer from their son. A possible sweet tooth to match the enormous sweet tooth of his adoptive father. Taking after Adi indeed.

Adi was prepared to wait while Raj made up his mind about which foods or snacks that he liked the most but was surprised when the word 'cookies' came bursting out of his mouth. He shot a look at his husband then burst out laughing. "Someone's got a sweet tooth it seems,'' he said with great approval and reached out to ruffle Raj's hair.

Poor Benny. He just would have to put up with two sugar addicts. Or rather, one sugar and one cookie addict.

Luckily, they had cookies in stock. Adi retrieved one to hand to Raj. "One for now. Right, Benny?'' Because they wouldn't want to make the kid extra hyper. And kids that were three years old already had a lot of energy with or without a sugar rush.

It was clear that the little boy’s response had caught his other half off guard, even if Benny supposed cookies weren’t that uncommon a favorite snack for kids. He himself had enjoyed them on occasion…just not to the extent Adi liked in his sugar highs. “So it would seem.” At least where cookies were concerned. “We’ve gotten ourselves a cookie monster,” he teased.

Raj giggled at the hair ruffle, squirming away from Adi’s grasp playfully. But he was quick to return as the cookie was produced, the boy looking expectantly up at Adi with cute eyes.

Benny casually leaned on the island in the kitchen, watching his two boys interact. “Right…” he said, confirming the one cookie rule. The excitement of the day was enough so it was probably best to not add too much sugar into the mix even if there wasn’t a meal to be ruined by sweets to be concerned around.

Adi grinned. “I’m going to call him that!’’ he said with a ton of enthusiasm. Nicknames have been a thing of his for a long time now. Vaguely he wondered if Raj had been introduced to Sesame Street from where Cookie Monster was famously from. “We need to get him a Monster plushie,’’ he added to the hubby. Then he was looking down at the little guy with a laugh. “Don’t you want the cookie?’’ His tone was teasing and of course Raj came back for it.

If he could, he would have melted right there and then because of the look their son was giving him. “Here you go! There’s more where that came from... for another day.’’ One cookie wouldn’t be that bad. Hmmm... and maybe one for himself too. “Want one, Benny?’’ Adi was already digging into the jar again.

Aww man, he had inadvertedly given his son huis first nickname. Cookie Monster. Benny just hoped Rajesh would forgive him or not mind it much as he knew Adi was a stickler for nicknames and using them despite how the owners might feel about them. He, himself, was very much stuck with the name Benny after having starting out hating it in favor of Ben or his full given name of Benjamin. But then Benny had grown on him and he had to admit it was kinda adorable of a nickname for the boy.

Their own little cookie monster.

“For certain,” Benny agreed, making a mental note of the future purchase for the boy. Raj answered his father’s question by taking the offered cookie from his hand, taking a couple of quick almost greedy bites before slowing to savoring the treat. Cookies weren’t all too common at the orphanage so it was easy to think it was better to enjoy it even if more were promised. “Nah, I’m good…” the dragon said with a shake of his head at the offer. No cookie for him.

Little did Benny know that even Adi was thinking about how he had nicknamed him. Benny... the hubby hadn’t liked that name but Adi had and he loved it even more now. He had wanted to call Benny something other than what everyone called him, something that would always stand out to the Dragon. Eventually Benny had given up with trying to get Adi to abandon the nickname.

And so Benny it was from that moment on!

Adi grinned between bites of his own cookie as Raj nommed on his with zest. His little cookie monster. Correction: their little cookie monster. His and Benny’s. Though Benny was currently missing out on the delicious treat. Oh well. Maybe sours for him later? “Ready to see the rest of the house?’’ he asked Raj. Or did he want to get back to that rocking chair?

Would you look at that...like father like son. Benny was watching the two, taking in the moment as no doubt he’d be doing a lot, at least for a while. All the cute and amusing moments of their new family and it would never grow old.

The cookie was all too soon a mix of memory and crumbs. Raj may have been sad about the fact but it was quickly quelled by the prospect of more exploring. “Yea!!!” the little boy exclaimed, bouncing on the balls of his feet. “Where too? Where too?” Rajesh wondering what else there was to see in his new home.

Benny chuckled at the boy’s enthusiasm, exchanging glances with Adi as he straightened up from the counter. “Then we go,” he remarked, resting a light hand on Raj’s shoulder as if to be able to nudge him along where next. “And it’s a surprise.” So Papa Adi lead the way.

Adi looked longingly at the cookie jar, wishing he could have another but for two reasons he stopped. One: Benny would disapprove because two: they had to set an example for Raj. What kind of father would he be if he ate way too many cookies when the aim was to not spoil his child’s appetite? At least Adi would have another later... when Raj had settled down.

As it was, he laughed and scooped the boy up in his arms. “Hmmm. How about the living room and the rest? Later we will go to see the dragons and the hippogriffs.’’ He grinned at Benny. “Papa Benny is excited for you to see his dragons. He’ll make sure you learn all their names and everything.’’ And they were off to explore the rest of the house that Raj would grow up in!

Yes hubby, he caught that look.

And Benny appreciated Adi’s restraint. That was one of the biggest changes to their lives, being aware of when Rajesh was there and could pay attention to them and they’re being a good example to him. Including working with Adi’s sweet tooth. Maybe cookies could be had when Raj was in bed later on.

Raj giggled loudly as he was gathered up in his new father’s arms. He nodded enthusiastically, eyes widening at the mention of the creatures he had only seen in the illustrations of books. “Ra-gons? Hi—o-greeefs?” His gaze shifting to Papa Benny over Adi’s shoulder as he was mentioned, chuckling in the bouncing movements as they explored the house further.

“Yep…you’ll love them.”

New Day

“So what do we do when meeting Mr. Hippogriff?” Benny asked as he sat cross-legged on one side of the open enclosure watching said creature. The most important part of letting him around the preserve was making sure the little man knew how to behave around them. Neither he nor Adi really wanted to have to worry about stepping in between Raj and a dragon or hippogriff that took something the wrong way.

Rajesh paused a moment as if debating before doubling over and nearly falling into his papa’s lap.

Benny chuckled as he gently turned Raj around to face the hippogriff as he bent down in his makeshift bow. “Close enough…but good,” gaining a smile from the boy.

Adi sat with his boys, watching in great amusement. When Raj nearly fell into Benny’s lap, he laughed out loud. Raj was so adorable and a fast learner. The toddler had already seemed to like the dragons and hippogriffs from when Adi and Benny had shown him the creatures from afar. They weren’t rushing to get their child develop that close relationship that they had with their creatures but they did want him to earn the basics from a young age. Plus, they were always cautious when they had Raj out there with them. It also was a great assist to have the help from around the reserve looking out for Raj.

Now chuckling, Adi said, “Nicely done, Raj! Those griffs will bow back to you in no time. Just remember to keep eye contact.’’ He had every faith in his son. After all, biological or not, he had two fathers who were great with creatures. When this was over and the toddler was a success with the griffs too, he would be getting a hearty fist bump.

Adi shot a grin at Benny. “He’s got this.’’ And even if things went wrong, Daddy Adi and Papa Benny were there to save the day.

Raj regrouped with Papa Benny’s help, not faceplanting in his lap nor the ground before the three of them. He couldn’t help smiling as he was reassured that he had done well, his hands half-clapping on Benny’s as he held them out in case the boy needed them. “Bow to them…me” the toddler absently remarked, putting his own thoughts allowed as his little brain worked out what was said around him. The phrase about eye contact was still over his head other than the word eye. That he managed to get with Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.

Cutey patootie. How did they get so lucky? “Yep…I’m sure you’ll be a hit with all the animals.” It didn’t matter that they shared no blood…Raj seemed to be a fan of creatures. At least from afar. Unless it was a stuffed variety like the collection in his bedroom. Then he had a great relationship with even the ones not personally his own. The growing stuffed dragon/hippogriff family.

“Helps he likes to mimic.” Raj was ripe with curiosity and the desire to do anything he and Adi were doing. And no matter how close they, especially the hubby, was with the hippogriffs, a respectful bow and the courtesy of personal space until permission was given was a must.

Adi couldn’t believe just how adorable Raj was. The toddler was smiling all through the coaching Benny was giving him. Adi on the other hand? He had a camera snapping a few pictures. Of course, he could have used his phone but given the vast amount of spell work on their reserve... it was impossible. Only if they were up at the House could the technology be used.

“How could he not? They’ll take one look at him and fall right in love.’’ Kind of what happened to him and Benny. “All the more reason to be careful around him,’’ Adi added with a wink and snapped another picture. “Keep it up, Raj! You’ve got this.’’ He opened the camera and peered in. “Gosh, I’m almost out of film. I’ll be right back.’’ And with that, he sprang up and ran back towards their house.

Rajesh was a ham, eating up all the photo taking his father was putting him through. His attention caught between the hippogriff still out of range and the two humans carrying on around him, acting the happy toddler all the while. He was only vaguely aware of what was being said around him, too focused on all the loving energy the two men gave off as they interacted with him and his fascination of watching everything he could.

"His own fan club."

Yes he got the wink and the meaning around the words, Benny sticking out his tongue at Adi and wondering as the flash went off in surprise if he had been caught on film. Now that would be a picture. But indeed, the two best friends turned husbands had to be careful around their son with their teasing and adventurous natures. They didn’t exactly want Raj getting the idea in his head to want to join one of their potions experiments to name an example. “You and your snapping,” he joked with a shake of his head as his other half had to return home. Served him right though.

“Your daddy is such a shutterbug,” he teasingly whispered in the boy’s ear causing a rupture of giggles.

Adi definitely caught Benny with his tongue stuck out in that picture! He was quite sure and was rather pleased by the entire thing. It was one of those moments when the hubby was extra handsome, after all. “Got to take lots of pictures of Raj because he’s growing up too fast.’’ Rebellious teenage years would be upon him and Benny before they knew it

The Hufflepuff at heart had jogged back to the house, opened the door and gone to grab one of the rolls of film that he had stashed. He was already halfway out of the doorway when he heard the blare of a guitar solo. His cellular phone was ringing. Adi quickly followed the music to the kitchen (obviously) where he had left the phone on the counter before heading out to the reserve. The screen had lit up and displayed a picture of his mother, her hair slowly greying and her face now a little wrinkly especially around the corners of her eyes. She still looked beautiful regardless if she wore that pretty light green sari that she had on in the picture or something else.

He snatched up the phone and hit the button. “Hey, mom! You’re going to have loads of pictures of your grandson-’’ Adi snapped his mouth shut when his mother cut him off. The news that she was the type of news that made your brain go fuzzy, your hands go cold and your heart shatter. He didn’t even remember heading back outside. Yet, there he was, moving slowly towards Benny and Raj feeling lost. There was a blank look on his face as he still stared down at the now dark screen of the phone.

Got to take lots of pictures of Raj because he’s growing up too fast.

Benny couldn’t fault him there; the boy WAS growing up so very, very fast. He’d been told they kinda do that. That he and Adi had done that, all growing up from their own childhood, so it was hypocritical to expect any less from their own child. That didn’t keep him from teasing his other half for his marathon picture taking though. It was all in good fun after all and entertained their son at the same time.

Raj had been up and down and exploring a little as he was left alone with Papa Benny. The boy settling into a seat on the grass and absently playing while the dragon watched from nearby from his own spot between child and hippogriff. Spotted Adi returning, Benny stretched and moved to stand, ruffling Rajesh’s hair with a chuckle in passing. His laughter died however as he noticed the look on his husband’s face as he came closer to them and the blank stare at the phone. A far cry from the behavior he had left them with.

“Adi…?” he asked, his eyes frowning. “Aditya, what is it? What’s wrong?” He couldn’t explain the feeling that enveloped him but he wasn’t liking it. Not at all.

Adi heard Benny’s voice but he didn’t reply. Not even when he had moved to stand close to him. His gaze lifted from the phone though. It passed over Benny’s face, to his son on the ground, the hippogriff nearby then it was back on Benny. “That was mom,’’ he said even more blankly. His voice was calm and controlled. His mind flashed back to the call he just received. Indira’s words replayed but it only made him more puzzled. Surely she was wrong.

“She said...’’ Adi took a breath. “She said dad died.’’ He shook his head. “That can’t be right, Benny.’’ Someone must have pranked him. A cruel prank but one all the same. The man looked to his husband to reassure him even though the conversation that just happened had been very much real. He was just in too much shock to process it.

That was mom.

Okay that was something. And given that she had called Adi and not him meant that it was his mother-in-law. So that was two somethings. There was just the rest of the information that was needed as Benny watched his other half. She said...she said....what?!

The dragon's face fell as he digested the news. "Oh Adi..." he made out, reaching out for his husband. Oh how he wished that he could tell him that it wasn't right. That Saieed Rehman wasn't gone from this earth. But Indira wouldn't pull a joke like that, lying about her husband's death. And the news wouldn't break Adi who understood but was struggling to believe it all. He could only imagine what his mother-in-law was going through right now.

Rajesh had been playing on his own, having fun with the little things. The boy smiled at the return of his father, getting to his feet and joining the two men, unaware of the drama unfolding. "Da..." he said, trying to get Adi's attention.

The look on Benny's face puzzled Adi even more. "What?'' he asked but still willingly moved towards Benny. He could be stubborn and perhaps that was one of the reasons why the news was taking so painstakingly long to sink in. "Must have been a crank call,'' he continued to muse aloud. "But then... her picture flashed when the call was coming in...'' So there was less of a chance of it being a crank call. Adi's brow furrowed.

Raj got his attention and distracted with his recent realisation of his mother's picture, Adi bent to scoop the toddler into his arms. His eyes moved back to Benny, which were now filled with horror. "She won't lie.'' That came out in a whisper.
