A Lion and a Badger

Benadi...

Two best friends, first real close during school and now inseparable as they start the rest of their lives together.
Benjamin Atreyu and Aditya Rehman are now on their own outside the normalcy and safety of the walls of Hogwarts.
Wizarding University and the great wide world await the boyfriends as they explore what its like to really be adults in the wizarding and muggle worlds.

Locations
Benadi Apartment: Two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Their first very own home close to school.

Cassiopeia's Cafe: A friendly cafe owned by Benny's mother

Rehman House: The childhood home of Adi, home of Saieed and Indira Rehman

Wizarding University: Edinburgh Campus of the school, where Benny and Adi take classes towards their degrees.

Scene 1 : Cassiopeia's Cafe

Ben's mom's cafe was chosen as the location for the ritual meeting of the families. Aka the first full Atreyu-Rehman get-together. The one where the boys tell their loved ones the truth about their relationship and see just how they react.

Azura bit her lip a little as she hugged her new guardians and tried not to cry all over them, it wasn't easy.. But she felt overwhelmed. So much had been happening in her life.. At least now she could sort of settle

She smiled and took the handkerchief from Benny, touched by his thoughtfulness as she dabbed at her eyes a bit before she looked up at Adi.. She deserved it hmm? She didn't think so, but it was awfully kind of him to think so..

Though as he asked what her favorite dish was a slow smile spread over her flushed face..

"Cheeseburgers and chips. " She said with a bit of a sheepish grin.. "Or Pizza. " Either one worked well!

Benny softly smiled at the arm around him, absently nodding at Adi's words. It wasn't uncommon for him to be the worrier between them and finding need to be assured by the hippogriff. But all was truly well in the world and Azura was quite pleased with all they had to over and it was only the first day. Hugs all around and happy tears mixed among any sad tears on the accepted handkerchief.

He agreed to Azura deserving it, even if the girl seemed to not feel the same way. However, Adi had sense to change the mood of the moment, Benny having to bite back a chuckle that his boyfriend had moved thoughts to food. That would be where his other half's mind would naturally go, at least the one appropriate to their young guest.

At first he was as torn as Azura, his own decision between offering to help and following Adi out of the room as he was not sure of place at the moment. It was only when he briefly thought on the privacy that a young girl might need that he sheepishly opted for the latter. "Then we shall leave you be for the moment," Benny said, "the bathroom is the room next store to the right should you need it." And with that he moved to the door.

One reassured dragon? Yup! Adi gave Benny a light squish. See? Everything had turned out just fine! And he had totally expected the emotions from Azura. Honestly, he would have been overwhelmed if he had been in her positions. He reckoned his own dad had felt the same when Saieed had realised he had been adopted.

"Get acquainted with your room, Az. We'll call you when the food's ready.'' As a surprise, he would get both cheeseburgers and chips and pizza for her. Nah, he wasn't looking to spoil her. Today was just a cause to celebrate. Besides... he was starved! With a grin, he moved to follow Benny out of the room.

New Scene - - - Benadi Apartment

Benny lowered his head into the crease of the open book with a sigh. He had really hoped that during university he would have to struggle on subjects he didn’t do so well in, the ones he wished to leave behind at Hogwarts, especially in the second half while he focused on his creature studies. Except that wasn’t to be the case it seems and the former Gryffindor was frustrated with that fact. That and the fact that he just couldn’t get the latest material. The only plus side was the fact that it was a class that he actually shared with Adi.

If only his other half didn’t seem to not be bothered with the class.

Or maybe rather…if only he was having as much luck as the hippogriff was.

Cue another sigh as he debated his next move. Benny knew he really couldn’t avoid trying to figure it out. It might not be a Magizoology class, but it was a required one. And he needed to PASS.

Omnomnom!

FOOD!

Adi had been fixing himself a sandwich in the kitchen. His favourite kind of sandwich, actually... the kind with scrambled eggs and sausages. He had made one for Benny too. His boyfriend seemed to need it, judging from the frustrated look on his face as Adi made his way to him. He was levitating two plates and two bottles of buttebeer for them.

"What's up, babe?'' Adi asked as he set the food on the table. He them flopped onto the couch beside the said dragon and peered over at notes. Did Benny need help with something? That wasn't usually the case except when anything involved potions.

Benny was aware that Adi was in the kitchen. Could hear the sounds and smell the food he was obviously preparing even as his gaze was hidden. His focus elsewhere, even as his stomach reacted to the thought of food. But the dragon wasn’t sure he could let himself be distracted or fall down a rabbit hole of procrastination instead of doing his work. His boyfriend even without the food he placed before him could be more than a little distracting. And then the hippogriff proceeded to sit down beside him.

“Not my grades…” he answered, sighing once more. They’d suffer if he couldn’t manage to get ahold of himself where he needed to. “I hate this class…” he muttered still not quite looking at him. “And its only gotten worse.” College classes were by far more difficult than Hogwarts classes and thus he struggled where he had been able to push himself through before.

Awh, his poor dragon.

Adi wanted to snuggle the frustration away but knew that would more than distract Benny. "You always get through the classes. I wouldn't worry about it." He knew a long, long time ago that his boyfriend was super brilliant. "Besides, I'm here to help! What's bothering you?"

Positive that he would be able to solve the problem, Adi reached for their sandwiches. "Here you are! I reckon you might be hungry. No use thinking on an empty stomach." Keeping his own sandwich out of reach of Benny's book so that the book wouldn't get soiled, he peered at the notes again.

One Griff ready to help!

There was the usual, supportive boyfriend. The one, even when they were just best friends, tended to try to remind him that he wasn’t stupid in times of the strongest of doubts. Sometimes Benny wondered if he would have ever gotten his patronus, if not his animangus form, if Adi hadn’t been right along there with him. Shoot…his final patronus originally came from a very, VERY happy memory with him. At his question, the former Gryffindor lifted his head and looked at him as he debated how to explain.

Before he could answer really, Adi had brought up the sandwiches, offering one to him. Benny absently accepted it, eying the sandwich in debate before wiling himself to relax. “Always the thoughtful hippogriff,” he remarked with a weak smile, finally giving into eating. At the very least taking a bite and swallowing gave him more time to gather his thoughts and words on the whole matter.

“I think I’m missing something,” Benny said at first once his mouth was clear. “The last potion we did…I followed the instructions as precisely as I normally do, but it didn’t come out right. And now the professor wants me to redo it, but I can’t figure out what’s wrong. He even gave me a copy of his lesson plan to compare but it all matches my notes.”

Adi smirked. He very well recognised the look of scrutiny that Benny was giving the sandwich. Truthfully, who could blame the dragon when Adi had the habit to subtly mix potions into food then happily watch as they were consumed. Of course all his potions were safe... he would never let Benny swallow something that was dangerous.

Adi grabbed a sandwich of his own, his eyes going back to Benny's notes as the explanation was given. He chewed thoughtfully. "I'm so tempted to leave you and watch you struggle,'' he teased. The guy had already spotted what his boyfriend had missed. And it wasn't a step that had been messed up. "You know... I think I'll do just that.'' He sat back, his feet folded Indian style as he gave the dragon the most innocent look he could manage.

Benny caught the smirk but wasn’t entirely sure for the reason for it. Was it the fact that once more potions were completely stumping him? Or was it food related---had he chewed into a prank to add to his frustration? He still felt fine…for now. He supposed there was only time to wait and see. Hey, maybe it was for the best in the long run. Surely it would be a distraction from his school troubles.

Way to look on the bright side to being a lab rat, Benny.

However, he was brought back to the issue at hand by Adi speaking of not helping of all things. “Huh…” he mused, looking at his other half as he gave up on another bite. His face falling as assistance was denied him, the dragon watching as the hippogriff settled into his lunch innocently. “But Adi….” Benny droned, his head tilted as he gave him cute puppy dog eyes. “I really need the help of my favorite potions master.” Cue more eying.

Adi continued to smirk at Benny for a while. You know... just to keep him wondering if anything was up. Hehe. Then his attention was back on the notes and his sandwich. Hmmm... he might be needing another soon. A sandwich, he meant.

Bite, chew, swallow annnnnnd repeat!

He had continued scanning Benny's notes and concluded that everything else was correct except for that weight of that particular ingredient. Adi wasn't going to tell that so easily to Benny though. Or wait! He just might! Just look at those adorable puppy/ dragon eyes! Cue one already melting hippogriff!

HE MUST RESIST!

"It's uh, more fun to watch you squirm and try to figure it out!'' Lots of fun, actually. But oh man! Those blue eyes that he loved!

Okay Benny was really beginning to wonder what was on Adi’s mind as his smirking continued. The boyfriend was being mysterious and so…HIM right now and he couldn’t avoid the rest of his sandwich as his stomach was protesting the break. The dragon took another healthy bite; vaguely aware nothing had happened so far so maybe he really was out of the woods. As he chewed, he watched Adi looking over his notes, awaiting any sort of answer to his problem.

However, he still didn’t expect him to continue his denial of help. Not after the eyes he was giving his other half. Okay, so sure he had played the cuteness card. And the buttering up card. But still Adi wanted him to squirm. "But..." Benny pouted without thinking, lowering his head to cover up the look once he registered the look.

“I guess I’ll have to do it myself,” he mused with a sigh as he took back his notes. The former Gryffindor exchanging it for the plate containing the remaining sandwich that he nearly dropped in Adi’s lap. Food wasn’t the help he needed at the moment, his gaze starring at his handwriting with furrowed brow.

Adi just knew Benny was still wondering if any prank had been played on him. "This is fuuun!'' he thought. He figured he'd let his man figure out that the food hadn't been spiked. If it had been, Benny would have been a creature by now.

Did the dragon remember Adi telling him how difficult it was to resist him? Yeah, it was and the griff was doing his best not to cave. He was momentarily distracted by the plate being dropped in his lap. "Alrightey! It's probably better that way, babe.'' In the meanwhile...

The griff took another bite of his sandwich and a swig of his butterbeer then he reached a finger out to playfully poke Benny.

No fur…no scales…no shrinking or any other assorted surprises. The former Gryffindor relaxed finally, figuring Adi was just playing with his suspicions this time around. Not that it mattered as he was no longer eating. Rather he had pulled his legs onto the couch with his book on his lap to continue his frustrating search for answers.

Better…suuuuure.

Benny just had to press on and trust his luck hadn’t completely run out. He squirmed from the poking finger. “No distracting if you’re not going to help,” Benny remarked, making a face. He would need all his focus to figure it out on his own without Adi. The dragon jut needed a miracle since he hadn’t found it yet with all his studying of his notes.

No big deal.

Ooh...

Benny was being focused, huh? Or trying to be rather. Since there wasn't much in the way of University work that his boyfriend had to cover for the rest of the day, Adi figured it wouldn't be a bad thing to bother him. He polished off his sandwich with gusto and then ignoring Benny's remark, he proceeded to tickle him in the same side he had poked.

"What if I don't want to stop distracting you?'' Adi did plan to point out the error soon enough though. He just wanted to have his fun first.

Benny just couldn't pinpoint what went wrong. He was half-tempted to just give up and ask the professor for advice at the next class. Surely the man couldn't entirely fault him for asking of he spent a reasonable amount of time on his own with no luck. Right? It would be best to know in case it ever came up on an exam. Cue sigh as he really didn't want to do that, having the experience of getting on a potions master's bad side at least once before and he didn't want to repeat it. Even if Lafay was the worst he could confront in the area.

Since he was trying to avoid looking at Adi, Benny missed the tickling fingers' approach, squirming at the surprising touch as it tickled him. "I will swat you with these papers..." he threatened in response, glancing at him over them. Yeah Adi, that soooo wasn't the help he needed, Boyfriend.

That sigh! Adi knew what it meant. Benny was thinking of giving up. For that, he tickled the dragon even more. Or attempted to, rather, as Benny seemed to be unaffected by his fingers. "Ooh, I'm so scared!'' he replied with laughter. "The mean papers and a mean dragon will get me!'' LOL. Bring it on, lover boy!

But first...

The guy pulled his hand away slightly. "I'll give you a hint because you're not going to give up so easily.'' He gave Benny a stern look which reminded him of how stern he got while Benny was going through with his patronus training. "It's something to do with one of the ingredients.''

He echoed Adi’s laughter with his own as the tickling persisted causing the dragon to shift and squirm in his seat to try and avoid it. Oh the hippogriff knew his weakness oh so well. It wasn’t really fair. It was like he was being held over a barrel and now completely distracted. Benny playfully swatted his other half with said papers before sticking out his tongue at him for the teasing.

“As punishment… Hee Hee.…. for being a mean hippogr--- Hee hee”

Benny tried to relax as the offending hand moved as if away from him. Hmm…he was going to help him?! Now he was flinching under the stern look he was giving as well as his words like Adi had figured out he had been about to give up. He straightened out his notes to look over the ingredients list, passing off the steps okay. “What about it? Did I miss one? Handle something wrong?”

It wasn’t exactly narrowed down all that much.

Adi honestly loved hearing Benny laugh. At least he kept his boyfriend happy and that was a pretty great thing for him. A grin in place, he retracted his hand. Alrightey, Benny would need to focus fully since there would just be one more clue being given. And the dragon was seemingly ready to find what he had missed in his notes.

"I'm not going to tell you everything.'' Adi maintained his stern look. It had some effect on the other guy after all. "One of your measurements is wrong. Go on. Look closer.'' That should be all the help needed.

The offensive hand was pulled further away and Benny was hopeful that that meant no more tickling…at least for now. A reprieve to allow him to think as Adi still refused to outright tell him exactly what was wrong with his work. “How foolish of me to ask…” he mused, fighting the urge to either roll his eyes or give the puppy dog eyes again. Who knew if perhaps once more would bring him over.

Measurements…?

The former Gryffindor glanced at his ingredients list once more to try and decipher which one it was exactly. Nothing immediately jumped out at him so he compared the amounts with the directions that each ingredient corresponded to and that’s when it hit him.

“Merlin…”

He had completely swapped the size of the measurements for the essence. A couple of tablespoons instead of a couple of teaspoons. No wonder it had not come out right! Benny covered his face with his hands feeling completely bashful at his mistake. At his level of mistake. “Maybe it’s time I need glasses,” he murmured with a soft sigh as he lowered his hands, trying to recover with humor.

Adi had to laugh at that comment. "Maybe it was foolish,'' he teased happily and resisting the urge to tackle Benny playfully. The sacrifices he made just to stay away while the boyfriend was studying. While Benny sifted through the notes, he chugged down his butterbeer (he had to keep his stomach happy, after all) while keeping his eyes on the dragon.

FINALLY!

"And it only took you FOREVER to find it!'' Adi laughed at his little joke. "Well done!'' Then he was laughing again, this time when Benny covered his face. "Oh, you mean like these?'' He whipped off his own glasses and moved to put them over the other guy's eyes.

Benny wrinkled his nose playfully at Adi’s laughter and teasing. Yes, hardy har har. He had simply been hoping the boyfriend would help for old times’ sake rather than try and give him a lesson. It wasn’t like he had made a knowledge mistake, but a copying one. The dragon would have learned the potion correctly if he hadn’t.

“Not my fault…it wasn’t exactly obvious,” he remarked in his defense though feeling better about it as Adi followed his jest with a compliment. And then Benny suddenly found himself looking through the modified glass of his boyfriend’s eyewear causing him to blink in surprise and adjustment. “Wow…” he said, bringing his hands to shift the glasses better on his face. “Your vision is bad…” the former Gryffindor said, trying to keep a straight face, especially to add…

“No wonder you didn’t fall for me sooner.” Cue bemused look at Adi.

"I know but I can give you a difficult time about it, can't I?" Adi asked in a tone he hoped was rather innocent. And he hoped his expression matched. Really, Benny put up with a lot from him and it was something Adi knew he took advantage of. He couldn't help it. Anyway, it never drove his bestie away.

He made a face. "It's not that bad! Something's wrong with YOUR eyes.'' Teasing! He was just teasing. But it was true- Adi's eyes weren't so bad that's why he was able to go without his glasses a lot of the time.

Oh, hahahaha! The boyfriend had jokes! Adi sniggered. "Maybe you weren't so good looking back then.''

Benny almost wanted to laugh at the tone and expression Adi was giving him. “Only you…” he answered with a shake of his head. The boyfriend really was lucky that he wasn’t the type to be too bothered by teasing and other assorted behaviors Adi was fond of. Though Benny often felt their relationship was worth putting up with it all. He certainly couldn’t deal with another separation like before.

He did however give into his amusement as Adi reacted to the teasing about his vision. “Maybe it’s just the glasses then.” They did make his eyes and vision all wonky so it could just be all that jazz. Benny took them off to return to their rightful owner before attempting a cute look.

“Me? I’ve always been adorable.” Cue playful dragon look.

“As it should be,’’ Adi said with a happy nod. If there was one thing he was sure about, was that the relationship he and Benny had would last. Remember back in the day when he struggled with insecurity? Yep, it was still a thing of the past thanks to Benny. “Don’t forget that this griff would eat anyone who’s got a thing for you.’’ Adi laughed. But by now everyone knew that he and Benny were a couple.

He took his glasses and returned them to his face. The guy peered through them over to Benny. “Have you always been? I definitely hadn’t noticed.’’ That part was true actually. Not until Benny had revealed his feelings did Adi see him in a different way. He moved closer to his boyfriend, leaning against him so that their shoulders touched lightly.

“By the way… have I told you today? I love you.’’
