73. WARN

"I'm warning you two. One more word out of either of you and I will ground you all summer."
They both rolled their eyes.
She was being so unreasonable. Why did they have to get such a cranky mother?
"B-" Nina started, but closed her mouth the moment she heard the noise.
"I warned you both! No plans this summer. You hear me?"
"Oh come on Dorit, they only got a warning, it's not like they had detention."
"Yeah mum, honestly, it was a mistake! It's not our fault! Please forgive us, it's only day one of our summer holidays!"

54. DARE

"I dare you to sneak down to mama and daddy's room... and replace the toilet roll with an empty one."
Beatrice covered her mouth with her hand to silence her giggle, but she did the dare, coming back with a half full toilet roll. "Mum's going to get so mad at daddy for not replacing it."
"Okay, my turn! I want a dare."
"Okay... I dare you to sneak into the kitchen and get the bag of cookies. The one mama keeps hidden in the high cupboard."
Nina smirked, removed her slippers and socks and snuck down to the kitchen.

12. CHARMS

"Well... they're the same, aren't they?"
"No... they're not. They're quite different. Transfiguration is changing the form or appearance. What do you think charms is?" Beatrice knew this little girl's older sister, and was sure such a statement had come from her.
"Charms are... not changing the way something looks, but changing what it does?"
Beatrice nodded, "Yes, simply put, that is correct. Now... a charm is something like... changing the colour of a sweater. Say you liked the sweater but not the colour. Transfiguration would be changing the sweater into a pair of shoes. Or... a pair of socks."

28. TIMETURNER

"That is so pretty! What is it Mama?"
"That's a time-turner! I didn't know you had one of those! Can I borrow it? Oh, I just want to go back and re-live my date! Please, mama, I promise I will just watch, and I won't interfere with... with... what?" She blinked, her mother giving her a stare.
"It's not real, Nina. How would I have a real time-turner in my jewellery box?"
Nina's shoulders slumped.
"What's a time-turner?" Beatrice asked.
"It's a time travelling device. It lets you go back in time. Well... at least the real ones do, anyway."

21. VEELA

Nina swayed herself around the dorm, her hands going through her hair, her body moving like liquid. The other girls were in a fit of giggles. What has gotten into her sister?
"I'm a veeeeeeela," Nina declared, waving her hands with a careful elegance.
"What is this about?" Beatrice snorted.
"Are you... oh, Merlin, she didn't find the cooking wine in the kitchens did she?" another one of their dorm-mates asked.
"You didn't did you?" Beatrice asked.
"No, silly sister, I'm not intoxucated. I'm... I'm in looooooove."
Beatrice rolled her eyes, flopping backwards on her bed. "You're always in love."

84. ANGRY

This was not the way Beatrice had envisioned returning home.

Her mother angry with her father, her father upset at her mother, and Nina frantic, trying to get them to talk.

She dropped her heavy trunk onto the ground, making an awful thud. Everyone looked up at her.
"Don't just leave your trunk there where anyone can fall over it. Put it in you bedroom."
"Nope," Beatrice said, walking around and sitting on it. "I'm not moving it until you and dad speak to each other."
"I.. we... what?" her mother stammered, her mouth opening and closing like a fish.

57. GOBLIN

"Ekh... I just don't like them. They give me the creeps," 11-year-old Nina said, grabbing for Beatrice's hand.
Gringotts was full of the little Goblins. Or were they big? Beatrice didn't know the average size of a Goblin.
"Why?"
"I don't know I just don't."
"Is it because they're smarter than you?" Beatrice teased, poking Nina in the arm.
"Stop it! No, I'm much smarter than these... things. What are they? Animals? Humans? No, they're not humans..."
"They're Goblins," Beatrice giggled. Surely Nina knew that.
She did. "Well derrrrr, but I mean... what are they?"
"I think they're beings, actually."

86. DARING

"You did WHAT?"
Beatrice nodded, "I jumped out of the plane with nothing but a parachute on. It was so... liberating."
"Are you mad, what if you'd have... have..."
"Have what? Not been able to release my parachute? Hurt myself? DIED? Dad I don't want to live my life worrying about things happening to me."
"But... well, that's just a bit daring. Jumping from the sky. And in a muggle flying contraption, of all things. Oyyy."
Beatrice shook her head. "Dad. Please. You could use a little freeing. How about you come with me next time?"
"NEXT TIME? Certainly not!"

9. DEFENCE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS

Beartice raised her hand.
"Miss York?"
"Er... well... I just wanted to ask. I know that we will be learning to defend ourselves against the dark arts," yes, she knew what the name of the class meant, "But... I just wanted to know what sort of dark arts we would be learning about? Defensively."
The Professor nodded, pacing back and forth. "Well... I will teach you spells. I will teach you the theory of the dark spell, and the best method to protect yourself. And Dark Creatures. Oh yes, there are dark creatures. TERRIBLY dark. From Snails, right to Dementors."

97. DICTIONARY

"A... a dictionary?" Beatrice asked, looking up from the unwrapped gift in her hands. "Er.. thanks." She tried to smile.
"Oh Bea, it's not a language dictionary. Look closer."
She did. Opening the first page, she saw that it was a Dictionary of Transfiguration. Beatrice smiled. "I didn't even realise such a thing existed."
"Well," Nina said with a shrug, "You never know what questions those students of yours will ask. At least now you have somewhere you can look it up."
Beatrice felt touched that her sister had remembered she was starting her new job, as Professor of Transfiguration.

55. EGG ON

"You have egg on your face Beatrice, did you know that? Right there." Nina's voice was full of self-righteousness.
Beatrice ducked, her face going bright red. "I didn't... I didn't mean to... to say that you didn't know what you were talking about."
"Oh, really? Is that because you're so very wrong, and everyone knows it, or because you are actually sorry?"
Beatrice couldn't even look at her sister. For telling her off in front of these people, only to be wrong and have her face rubbed in it. That was humiliating.
She shook her head. She had no words.

70. SPOOK

"BOO!"
"ARGHHHH!" The girls screamed, jumping a metre in the air, their hearts hammering away like a jackhammer.
"What did you do that for?" Nina cried at her father. She looked on her lap and on the ground. Popcorn was everywhere!
"Yeah dad! You didn't have to go and spook us like that." It was so mean! He never scared them like that before, why was he doing it now?
He laughed and waved his wand at the popcorn, vanishing it.
And he was laughing.
He had almost given them both heart attacks, and he was laughing? They eyed him.

87. STAIRCASE

"Whhoooooooo lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS," Nina sang.
"Who lives in a cupboard under the stairs? Haaarrrrryyyyy Potter," Beatrice joined in.
"That's not funny Bea. That was just abuse. It's not a joke."
"Wow you.. you don't need to be so cross about it."
"Well how would you like mother and father to put you under the staircase? I'm sure you'd fit."
Beatrice stood up, outraged! "They wouldn't do that to me! They love me! I wasn't... wasn't dropped off on their doorstep."
Nina jumped to her feet. "Why are you so insensitive? Poor Harry Potter."

77. CHEERFUL

The day after the war.
Well, the war at home.
Beatrice woke up to the smell of pancakes wafting through her bedroom. She couldn't stay in bed with that smell lingering! Up she got, pulling on her slippers and dressing gown, hopping down the stairs.
There were her parents, being all cuddly in the kitchen. "Well, aren't you two cheerful this morning?" Beatrice asked, announcing her presence.
"Oh good morning dear. Would you like some pancakes?"
"Uh... YES please!" Like they even needed to ask, didn't they know her? She got out her mug and filled it with hot chocolate.

39. DUEL

Dear Nina,

They started Duelling club up again at Hogwarts. Do you remember our second year? You were paired up to duel with that Slytherin boy? You gave him such a hard time for losing to a girl.

Well, the students are very excited, of course. It made me remember how excited we were when they put sign up sheets in the common room. I didn't put my name down, though. I just don't fancy trying to duel again after this many years, and against the talents within the Professors here. They're very experienced.

66. PACE

"You're going at snail pace, Nina. What is this car anyway? Why did you get one?"
"I told you! I needed one for the kids."
Beatrice laughed. "Right. But... don't you think the muggle neighbours will think it's strange when you fit five kids into the back seat of a three seat car?"
Nina went quiet.
"You're going less than half the speed limit!"
"Well I have precious cargo on board." She readjusted her hands on the steering wheel.
"Do you even have your licence?"
Nina blinked a few times.
"You don't, do you? Nina! That is against the law!"

40. SPELL

"What wath the firth thpell you catht with your wand Auntie Bea?"
Beatrice thought about that. Actually... it was a hard question. "Wow, Melody..." she let out a slow sigh. "It was 22 years since I bought my wand. Um... pr-probably... Wingardium Leviosa."
Melody frowned. "But that'th a boring thpell! Mummy thaid she created a thilver animal."
Beatrice laughed. "A patronus? Is that what she said, is it?"
But Melody didn't see the funny side. "Mummy didn't catht that thpell firtht?"
"Um... well I-I don't know, Melody. Maybe she did. I didn't see her cast it but she... might have."

15. ROOM

"We just need some room."
Seriously, 16 years of sharing the same room at home, and sharing the same dorm at Hogwarts? It was all too much. Nina needed her own space, Beatrice needed her own space, and they had a spare room. Nobody even came to stay with them, anyway.
"I... I need to think about it," their mother replied.
"But mother, please. You can't expect us to share a room forever!"
"You're both going to be heading off to university next year! What's one extra year?"
They both rolled their eyes.
Plus, Nina wasn't even going to university.

26. QUILL

My Quill...

My new indigo quill, it writes so very smooth,
Mama got the bill, and I got the groove.
I dipped it in the ink, black as the night time sky.
Writing poems makes me think, I must at least try.

Feathers high, dark purple dye,
I won't lose my quill, nor write on too rough twill.
Poetry is good for the soul, it's cheaper than therapy,
I just need a large parchment scroll, to write a legacy.

But when does a poem end?
When the author has it penned.

29. PENSIEVE

It was getting overwhelming.

Of course, it had been for a while, but now that exams were approaching, it was almost too much. There was no room in her mind. No room to store new information, and hardly enough room to even revise stored information.

What she needed was a pensieve. Store the excess information that she didn't need. Create enough room to allow her to revise. Otherwise... well, otherwise she might fail.

She sighed, dropping down into her chair, unrolling her tattered parchment, full of lecture notes, and spell tips, and trivia. She was re-reading. It made no sense.

67. QUELL

"OUCH OUCH! Mother stop!" Beatrice said, yanking her arm free of her mother's iron vice grasp.
Her mother was furious.
And all Beatrice could do was smile proudly.

"YES!" she said, feeling the tears spring to her eyes. "I did it. I supported the movement! I don't care what trouble I get in. Not with you, and not with the Ministry. I don't care."
"Oh you had better start caring, young lady. If it weren't for the MLE quelling your... your silly protest, you all could have dome some serious damage."
"Are you serious? Damage? We were repairing their damage!"

68. ROAR

"I don't even want to be in Gryffindor. What if I am? I can't... I can't even roar!"
"It's okay Nina, you're not a Gryffindor. You won't be placed in that house."
"How do you know?"
What had gotten into her sister?
"We're Hufflepuffs!"
Nina sat back down. Then stood up again. "We should put our robes on. We should, shouldn't we?"
"Sit down, Nina. The train only just left. We have ages. Here, have a handful of these beans."
"No, I can't... I'm too worried."
"Why? We're about to start a really fun adventure. We won't be roaring Gryffindors!"

50. BOGGART

"Amortal... what's that?"
"Not mortal."
Nina rolled her eyes "Well derrrr but... I don't get it."
"Well... not... not..." Beatrice couldn't quite articulate the definiteion in her head. So, she opened a book. "Okay, here... amortal is not being alive, and not having the ability to die."
"Right... so... so... what..."
"Well it says here a poltergeist is amortal. And... a boggart. What's that?"
Nina peeked over Beatrice's shoulder and they flipped through the book, to the page on Boggarts.
Beatrice heard a loud gulp in her ear, making her shudder.
"It turns into your fears? That is so creepy!"

93. CHICKEN

"Why would anyone want to face their fears, though?"
"Well... so that they're not a CHICKEN for the rest of their lives," Beatrice replied with a poke to Nina's arm.
Nina rubbed the spot.
Beatrice wouldn't want to face her fears, they were scary, and she hid them deep down in the locked vault within her brain. But... she also didn't have that many fears, unlike Nina. She wouldn't be spending her life as a chicken for having these fears. Not like Nina, who was scared of grass!
"What are you thinking?" Nina asked, pulling Beatrice out from her mind.

94. ALLERGIC

It was just her luck that the first time she had met Paulina, the young lass had had an allergic reaction to her Beamer. It was a good thing Beatrice had a stack of antillergen potion.

In all honesty, it was not the first time someone had reacted like that around her cats. As soon as the sneezing commenced, Beatrice knew what it was. At least the lass knew what it was she was allergic to.

It appeared that her sneezing had eased off soon after she had taken the potion, which freed her up to have tea and beans.
