Default Lovegood Lane

Background:
Dora Lovegood just recently returned to her home country after being in the US working for their Ministry. Dora is a half- blood witch with a bubbly personality but a short temper. She has recently been through a lot of ups and downs, but her co- worker, Silas, has seemed to give her a reason to stick around. Their "interaction" has started to bring out a new light in Dora.

ooc: This thread will give Dora a place to be with her friends and Silas. Dora's character will grow and learn more and more about herself.

Locations:

Dora's house: Inherited from a wizarding relative, Dora just recently renovated and moved into a new home. A sizeable home that reminds one of a farm house. The interior is just as bright as Dora's appearance and personality. Located inside the foyer is a talking mirror that gives out compliments or criticism... whichever is needed. Then you enter the large living room space where you see a ton of eclectic furniture in great colors and abstract shapes. There is a lovely fireplace, on the mantle there is a great collection of wizarding photgraphs. These photos range from her family to former co- workers from the US. The kitchen is very spacious and bright. One wall is nothing but windows, letting natural light spill in. The only room in the house that isn't bright and welcoming is Dora's "office"... well she practice's magic there and brews potions. Here are Dora's more personal photos and keepsakes. She keeps it locked away just like the memories.

The view from the foyer

Isabella

Belladonna

There now hangs a portrait of the former lady of the house. She crossed over but felt that Silas needed her portrait to feel better... Besides, she couldn't fully leave her children or her husband so abruptly. Over time she will stop visiting the portrait, but for now she stands waiting for her loved ones to come to her. The other portrait hangs in her niece's bedroom, hung with a permanent sticking charm.

Dora's yard:

Dora has a grand yard that back's onto an enchanted forest with tons of trails and adventures to be had. Living in a Wizarding area Dora is free to fly or do whatever else she fancies outdoors. There is also a sizeable garden which Dora maintains. It is home to magical and Muggle plants alike, there are also pixies and gnomes that roam about. In the center of the garden is a lovely golden domed gazebo with a double swing that is perfect for cozying up on.

The Lake:

Dora's property is also home to a fantastic lake that is home to all sorts of magical creatures and plants. The creatures are well behaved though, so Dora swims often when the weather is nice.

Dora appeared in her kitchen with a loud pop. "For the love of Merlin! This place is a wreck, Isabella" she announced to her fat black cat. Silas was to come see her home soon and she had to get things straightened out!

SHe went to work scrubbing her countertops... Well she used the Scourgify spell, but she was cleaning nonetheless. She checked her clock to see the time. A few hours left to do things. She had better get on the ball.
___________

As it neared time for Silas to show up she got more and more antsy and... unfortuantely more clumsy. Her owl and cat were having a staring contest of sorts in the corner. "Isabella, Leave Belladonna alone!" she berated her cat. Running toward a mirror to check her hair and makeup her heart beat out of her chest. Silas made her crazy!

"Oof." Silas touched down not too far from Dora's. Taking a moment to compose himself - apparation still made him queasy - he checked the items he was carrying. In one hand, an old broom he'd found tucked int a corner of his apartment. It *had* flown at some point, but Silas clearly hadn't used it in years, judging by how many cobwebs he had to clean out of it that morning.

In the other hand, a housewarming gift for Dora - a spiral shaped, electric blue, hand-blown glass vase. He'd seen it in a shop that morning and it reminded him of that eerily terrifying but exciting blue Dora's turned her hair and eyes the last time they'd spent time together.

Taking a moment to smooth the creases out of his dark blue jeans and fix the white button down he wore under his cloak, Silas breathed deeply and walked up to the house.

Well Well Well.... Dora's intruder charm definitely worked! She had long since set up a charm that let her know when someone entered her grounds. She ran to the back of the house to disarm it with a flick of her wand. No one outside of the house could hear it but it nearly burst her eardrums.

She peeked out a window and saw Silas approaching her house. EEP!! She took one last look in her full length mirror and sprinted to the door. She was wearing a pair of faded, ripped up jeans and a T-shirt was a golden snitch emblazoned on the front. Dora preferred to be barefoot at home so she was less likely to trip over anything!

She threw open the door and skipped out into the yard to Silas. "'Lo Silas! You didn't have to bring me anything... is THAT a broom?" she asked eyeing the abomination. She tutted at him and shook her head. "Well, come on in and I'll give you the grand tour! You can leave that broom out by the door. Maybe a gnome will run off with it!" she joked.. kind of.

Silas smiled when he saw Dora come outside in her bare feet. So carefree, he thought, wistfully, remembering what it was like not to carry his burdens.

"I most certainly did have to bring you something," he said cheerily, handing her the vase and kissing her cheek. "A gentleman does not coming calling without a token of affection," he said properly, with a small mock bow followed by a wink for good measure.

His smile turning to one of embarrassment, he fiddled with the broom a bit. "Well, I told you I didn't fly much... it's what I happened to have." He shrugged and tossed it by the door like she said. "I don't ever have particular need for it. I can't remember the last time I rode it, let alone serviced it."

Silas looked around the grounds, admiring the space she had. It certainly was lovely outside. "Lead the way, my dear." Silas gestured back to the door, awaiting Dora's tour.

Dora took the vase and looked lovingly at Silas. She giggled a bit when he swept her a bow and winked. Taking his hand she said, "It's beautiful and it will fit perfectly with my decor. Don't feel bad, flying just isn't for some people. You can either ride with me or use one of mine. I have four." This time she gave him a wink.

When they entered the foyer her blasted mirror started to criticize Silas, "Oho! Don't you look a bit peaky. Maybe you should eat more. Those bags beneath your eyes are horrible"

Dora's face turned beet red and her hair and eyes changed to match. Turning to the mirror she said in a very hostile voice, "I would shut my mouth if I were you, mirror! There is a nice dark corner in the attic with your name on it if you insult my guest again!"

The mirror gasped and said, "Well! I never was treated so rudely by your uncle! You ungrateful little brat! I will say what I wish! My mistress looks dashing today if I may say so!" the mirror added the last in a sugary sweet voice.

Dora looked at Silas with her her hair and eyes turning back to a lovely shade of lavender and said, "That thing is so rude sometimes! Sorry about that" She led him into the living room and swept her arms wide. The bright colors and mismatched, yet fitting furniture and decor practically screaming and said, "So how do you like it so far?"

Silas smiled as Dora led him inside but that smiled faded fast as he heard another voice speak to him. It sounded eerily like his Mum, but he knew it wasn't her. Turning, he noticed it was Dora's mirror. Were his bags really that bad today? Blast.

Glaring at the mirror, he wondered what else it could tell. It didn't particularly bother him; he knew he was a lanky, skinny mess most of the time. Still, he was grateful when Dora threatened the cheeky thing. It was right about one thing -- Dora looked fantastic, no matter what she was wearing.

Brushing his hair away from his forehead, Silas smiled kindly. "Don't worry about it. I can't say that it's wrong, you know." He chuckled softly, following her, then, to the living room.

It was a cacophony of color - totally Dora. Nothing matched, necessarily, but it all went together. "Totally you, absolutely," Silas said brightly. "You've clearly put a lot of work into your home." It wasn't necessariliy Silas' style. His was much more old-world muggle with deep parchment colors, rich reds and sage greens. But he could embrace the bright; sure.

Dora giggled softly at Silas. She could tell it wasn't his style, but Dora was a bit crazy so it suited her perfectly. "Thank you Silas. It is not done yet I have a few more finishing touches to add to the bedroom closets and the bathroom, but it's home." She smiled broadly and skipped over to the mantle and placed the vase Silas had given her in the forefront of the photos. "There! I told you it would go perfectly." she exclaimed stepping back to admire her handiwork.

She put on her serious face and spoke like a tour guide, " Now, moving on. If you'll follow me we'll continue the tour in the kitchen." She burst into hysterical giggles at this. She ran back to Silas and led him into the brightest room of the house. It wasn't bright because of the furniture, it was bright because the window wall flooded the room with sun light. It always reminded Dora of something out of a fairy tale. "So, what do you think? I haven't used to kitchen yet, but I thought I'd whip us up some food later."

Silas watched with interest as Dora placed the vase on the mantle. There were loads of photographs and he thought to go look at them when Dora directed him to another part of the house. Oh well. He could always look at them later.

Moving in the kitchen, Silas was overcome by how brightly the sun shone. It was certainly a gorgeous view, but Silas shielded his eyes. He was certainly not used to that much sun. His pale skin would turn crispy, for sure.

"Anything would be lovely," he responded to Dora, squinting, when she said she'd make lunch. "I envy you your space, frankly. My flat is... quite cramped." It truly was a wonderful house and Silas did indeed feel the slightest pang of envy, mixed with remorse. This seemed a carefree home, and Silas' life was anything but.

"And you live here completely alone?" Silas thought it odd that someone would be alone in this much space and not feel... well, very alone.

Dora laughed at Silas as he shielded his eyes from the sun. With a flick of her wand she drew the curtains and lit the candles. "Sorry about that! It does tend to be awfully bright in here." She looked down the hall and shook her head. The rest of the house was still under construction.

"I inherited this house from my uncle and they had a large family, so I live out here all by myself. But I have made a few modifications to protect me." she said slyly. "I would show the rest of the place, but quite frankly it's a mess. We can go walk around outside if you'd like. There is a lovely forrest and lake on the property we can play around." she offered. She moved toward the door and grabbed a pair of shoes on her way out.

Silas smiled and let his hand drop to his side. The candles certainly were a nice touch. "Ah, I see. And it doesn't get lonely?" Silas looked at her quizzically, though he wasn't sure why he'd asked that question.

"Well, I don't mind a mess, but I totally understand. I look forward to seeing the rest of if when it's ready." He smiled, gently. Taking her hand in his, he said, "I am your guest today, so whatever you would like us to do, I will oblige." He paused, "as long as it's not toooo crazy." He raised an eyebrow at her. For all he knew, she'd planned some sort of flying, swimming spell-casting triathlon.

Dora furrowed her brow a bit when Silas asked if she got lonely there all alone. "Sometimes, yeah it gets a bit lonely. But, I have Belladonna and Isabella to keep me company." she shrugged. It really got to be too much sometimes, honestly. That's why she spent so much time in the office.

"Well, I can't promise that it won't be crazy... but for now we can just go for a walk, if you'd like." She smiled lovingly at Silas and walked him out the back door into her expansive property. "Maybe you'd like to see my gazebo first? It really is quite lovely in my garden. I'll lead the way" she said tugging him along out the door. She had her shoes in her other hand. Stopping to step into them she stood back up and looked around. She took a deep breath and said to Silas, "Isn't it lovely out here?" she was simply beaming.

Silas smiled contentedly as Dora led him outside. Her land was absolutely breathtaking. "Yes, the gazebo would be great," he said, chuckling at her bare feet.

As they walked, Silas began to rethink his living in that gritty muggle neighborhood. Sure, this was a wizarding neighborhood, which made him nervous, but it looked like Dora had plenty of privacy. Though, despite his best efforts, and despite that he was sure he had intruder charms all over the place, he couldn't suppress the small voice in his head that pointed out to him every way they could be attacked here.

Shaking those thoughts from his mind, he turned to Dora. "This is truly spectacular. Thank you for inviting me."

Dora felt like throwing her arms out and twirling about like a child, but she contained herself. As they approached the gazebo her newly planted Flutterby Bushes were waving about in the light breeze. She didn't want to seem like a parnoid, but she had a sneakascope sitting beside her swing on a little stone table. Her nerves were much better than they had been, but she always took precautions.

Looking over at Silas she smiled as she took a seat on the double swing built into the gazebo. "I am really glad you like it here. I know that I couldn't see myself anywhere else." As they had been walking her hair and eyes and turned the same shade of blue as the tranquil sky above. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. The sounds of the forrest beyond and all the peaceful life around them made her feel more at home than ever. It didn't hurt that her favorite person was there to share it with her either.

"So, Silas. What would you like to do today?" Dora asked him. "We could fly a bit, walk through the forrest, go for aswim, or just sit and talk. The day is yours, I am okay with whatever you wish to do."

|Then Dora got a wicked little twinkle in her eye and smirked a bit. Pretending to stretch she said, "Or.... I could just tickle you again!" Then she pounced on Silas and they both went crashing down to the ground.

Silas smiled as Dora shifted her hair and eyes again. He always found it amusing and rather endearing. Silas was about to speak and answer her question when she got this odd look in her eyes.

Before Silas could react, he was on the grass, arms flailing and legs kicking as Dora tickled him relentlessly. "Ooof.. Dora... oi.. Dor... heh.. hehh.. Dor.. aahhhhh." Silas heaved and giggled and guffawed, tears dripping from the corners of his eyes. He hadn't laughed that hard nearly ever.

"I.. hahahahahahaha... I can.... heee.. I can do that too!" Silas lunged as they rolled around in the grass, and began his own tickle-assault, trying to get in a few good tickles while dodging hers. His white button down was thoroughly grass-stained, but he was having the time of his life. Any and all worries that he'd had were completely gone.

Dora cackled hysterically as Silas trashed around, but she wasn't going to give in, she tickled him harder. Oho! The tables had turned!! Silas was tickling her now! "Silas! Please! HAHAHAHAHA! Ple...hahaha.... ase don't! O.. hehehe...kay, Okay! Teehheeehhee... UNCLE!" Dora screeched. She too had tears streaming down her face from the tickle war that had just ensued. She felt like a big kid most of the time, so she enjoyed playing as thought she were a kid when she had the chance. Her pants leg had ripped even more than it already was. Looking down she said to Silas, "Thanks! It would have taken ages to get them like that." She remained lying in the grass looking up at the perfect blue sky and said, "Fancy taking a walk through the forrest? It is really quite lovely. Don't worry there's nothing too scary in there." she said with a wicked gleam in her eye.

She hopped up on her feet and did a couple of cartwheels and ran forward and grabbed Silas' hand to help him up. Then pointing toward the edge of the trees she said, "Told you a gnome would run off with your broom!" and watched as the little bugger scampered off with it. "Come on! If we hurry up we can still catch the blasted thing." and with that she started to drag Silas off into the woods at a quick pace.

Victory! Pulling a handkerchief out of his back pocket, Silas wiped the tears off Dora's face before wiping his own away with his hand. "That..." Silas chuckled, "was incredibly fun." Silas grinned broadly. THis place, this girl, the tickle war? All totally out of character, but he didn't care.

A walk in the woods, eh? Nothing scary, eh? Dora had that odd look in her eye again, but Silas opted to play along. "Oh, certainly, a walk sounds great." He watched as she flipped about in the grass, turning cartwheels in her super-ripped jeans. He admired how alive she always seemed to be.

Allowing her to help him to his feet, Silas held fast to her hand. And there went his broom. Carried by a gnome. "Heh, you most certainly did. I dare say it will get more use!" But Dora was dragging him after the gnome and into the woods. "It's.. ooof.. Dora.. not necessary... really." Branches where catching on his clothes and flicking him in the face. Trying to deflect them with his free hand, Silas stumbled after Dora, trying to keep his balance at her quick pace..

"Oi.. Dora..." Silas said breathily, "where are we going..."

"Come on, I think I saw the thieving little thing go this way" Dora hollered back at Silas. She was leading them deep into the heart of the forrest at this point. She was hell bent on catching the capering little gnome and punting him to kingdom come! "I'll not have you stealing from my home anymore you nasty little thing!" Dora bellowed at the stupid little gnome.

Suddenly a deep resonating chill crept upon Dora and everything seemed to turn dreary. She daren't slacken her grip on Silas' hand. jerking her wand out of it's holster on her arm she whispered "Lumos" and abruptly stopped. "Silas. Keep. Behind. Me." she clearly stated as she stepped more soudly in front of him still holding his hand in her free hand. Dementors? she thought. Did Silas feel the cold also? Just then the pocket Sneakascope she always carried started to whistle like mad in her pocket. She quickly silenced it and prepared for the ensuing battle.

It was amazing how quickly the situation had gone south. The air was chilly and all the cheer had been sucked from Silas. If he hadn't been so happy just moments before, he might not have noticed. But this was almost certain. Dementors.

Unholstering his wand, Silas followed Dora's lead and cast lumos as well. If it weren't so dire, it would have been almost endearing how she'd ordered him behind her. "I can fight, Dora... believe me," he said sternly. If there was one thing Silas could do well, it was defend himself. His attention was grabbed by the shrill of her sneakoscope. THAT was most certainly not a good sign.

Darting his eyes around the forest, Silas looked for what might be coming their way, wand at the ready. Squeezing Dora's hand before releasing it, he whispered, "we'll be fine..." not sure if it was more for her benefit, or his.

Dora was a bit upset that Silas had not listened to her. It was not that she didn't think him fit to defend himself, she just didn't want him ripped out her life like the others. She could feel the dread start to seep into her and she didn't want to lose Silas the way she had lost the others. Looking at him from the corner of her eye she said quietly, "I only ever want to protect you, Silas. This is what I was trained to do, please don't act rash okay. Promise me. I cannot let anything happen to you also.... I think I could love you." She had not wanted to say any of that the way she had, but it was certainly a dangerous situation.

Then the rasping, sucking sound that Dora had been waiting for seemed to come at them from all sides. "EXPECTO PATRONUM" Dora bellowed. A sleek panther burst from the end of her wand and stealthly manuevered through the bramble around them until it found it's intended target. The Dementors began to scatter but some still marched forward, their death rattle getting stronger. "Silas, as many Patronuses as you can manage." Then turning she shouted the incantation again and again and more panthers began to pounce and screech.

Well, that had caught him by surprise. Love him? Silas dropped his wand arm briefly as he turned to look at her, placing a hand on her shoulder. She was determined, on-guard, and ready to protect him. In that moment, Silas felt such warmth, admiration and gratitude that, well, some might call it love, too.

He was about to speak when the noise started. Dementors. Snapping back to attention, Silas turned so he and Dora were back to back. She was firing patronus charms left and right. Joining the fray, he cried out, "Expecto Patronum!" His coyote patronus leaped from the end of his wand and ran straight for the on-coming dementors. Silas cast more into the woods. They were still coming. Was Dora ok?

Groping around behind him, not daring to turn his head as he continued to cast, his hand sought her free one and he held it tight. He would not lose her, too.

Dora watched as Silas' Patronus went to join the fray. The Dementors couldn't handle all of the positive energy and they started to scatter in earnest.

The disgustingly dreadful cold instantly started to lift and all of the happiness was shocked back into the world. But all of the energy that Dora had exerted casting the Patronus Charms had gotten to her. At some point during the battle Silas had taken Dora's hand again. Gently squeezing it she said, "Silas, you were brill..." and then everything went black and she started to fall to the earthen floor of the forrest.

The dementors were leaving. They were going to be ok. Breathing a sigh of relief, Silas turned back to Dora, hands still grasped. When she squeezed his, he squeezed back. But then her hand went limp and she fell to the ground, mid-sentence.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Silas wailed as he dropped to his knees. He put the back of his hand to her forehead. She was clammy. He had to get her back to the house.

Casting a patronus to lead the way, Silas reholstered his wand, and, rather than cast a charm to levitate her, scooped Dora in his arms and cradled her against his chest. Dodging branches near his face and fallen tree limbs near his feet, he followed the coyote out of the forest. Crossing into the yard, Silas spotted that ruddy gnome that had started all this out of the corner of his eye and vowed to hex it the next chance he got.

When they finally reached the door, Silas noticed it was ajar, but thought nothing of it, instead pushing it open wider with his foot and taking Dora into the living room. Laying her down gently on the couch, her head on a pillow, Silas grasped her hand tightly, willing her to open her eyes. Panic filled his stomach. It was happening all over again.

Dora could hear all that was going on around her but couldn't bring herself out of her stupor. She was safe and warm there, but she could hear the pain in Silas' voice and wanted to comfort him.. but she couldn't.

She felt Silas lay her down on something soft and squeeze her hand. She began to stir slightly and her eyes began to flutter. Taking a deep breath she managed to croak, "Chocolate." Hoping that she had really said that aloud rather than in her head she tried to sit up. Why had dementors attacked on her property? She was livid!

Wait.... she could hear her Dark detectors going off all around her. Was there someone or something in her house? Then she heard the most chilling voice she had ever heard. It was like it was summoned from her own personal Hell. "Did you miss me love? Who's this bloke you've got with you? Does he know what you have done?" Then a low guttural growl escaped Dora's lips and she brandished her wand wildly. Was this really happeneing or was she still asleep?

Her eyelids were fluttering! Her eyelids were fluttering! What was she saying? Chocolate? Yes! Of course!

Silas stood quickly and ran to the kitchen. He tore through her cabinets, her pantry, her fridge, searching for chocolate of any kind. His first pass through, he hadn't turned up any. But there HAD to be chocolate here! The minutes ticked as Silas kept looking. Finally, he laid his hand on a lone chocolate bar, tucked behind bags of flour and sugar. "I have it! I'm coming Dora!" Silas took a step back toward the living room when he heard a growl. His heart racing, he began to run, but his feet didn't catch up to his brain and he tripped, landing spread eagle on the floor.

"uuuuhhh," Silas groaned, as he climbed back up to his feet. Walking briskly, now, as running had proven unwise, Silas walked straight to Dora, completely ignorant of anything going on around him. "I have the chocolate.. what's wrong? I heard something... are you alright?" Silas spoke rapidly, as he unwrapped the chocolate and broke off a piece for her. Holding it out, put a hand through her hair, which was damp with perspiration.
