In Southwestern Wales there is a town that fans of all ages rush to see their famous Quidditch team battle it out to be the top of the British and Irish League. The Caerphilly Catapults facility is complete with pitch, amazingly new stands for everyone's comfort, concessions stands, two locker rooms, and in the far side of the facility is the offices of the Catapults Public Relations, Mascot department, Manager, and owner. In this facility the team will learn more about each other and how to really work together to be the top team in the league.

First Scene

It is November and the Quidditch season is in full swing. The match over the weekend didn't go as well as they all hoped and the Catapults lost to the Arrows in a close points match. Their wonderful manager put a notice up in the locker room before Monday's practice that there will be a mandatory team meeting directly after practice. Now that practice is done the team is just waiting on their manager to show up.

Sigh.

Muirgen wasn't mentally prepared for this. As if them losing a match wasn't enough, now Rebecca wanted to tell them off for it and make them feel even worse. What's not to like??

Ohh well. The beater had to go, otherwise she knew their manager would... probably kill them, to say the least. That was definitely a meeting Muirgen could not miss, so there she was after practice.

The Welsh lady was shaking her leg, chewing on her lower lip and sighing every now and then.

Esme knew what this meeting was going to be about. She was sure Rebecca would basically chew her out for her lackluster performance in the last match. But what did she expect, really? She didn't see any reason to trade Low to the Cannons and she had gotten a bit worked up over it. Just like when Soren had gotten traded last season. That really threw her off her game as she had to get used to a new Chaser for formations and that. Didn't their manager know that trades shook up the entire team?

Glancing at her teammates that were already assembled in the locker room as she walked in, Esme gave them a half smile. Might as well get this over with. And she knew exactly what she'd be doing when they were done. Where was Rebecca anyway? Probably taking her sweet time to make them as edgy and anxious as possible while they waited for her.

Rebecca knew practice was over, but she hadn't made sure she was at the locker room before practice was over, no, she would wait. Wait until they all squirmed nervously and wait until some of them were done with the healer. She wanted their full attention, so yes she was taking her good old time. The team probably could hear her heels clicking as she made her way down the corridor towards the locker room. She was glad she talked Sewlyn into completely remodeling the stadium. It was exactly how she wanted it.

Finally making it to the door she opened it and looked around. "I'm glad to see some of you decided to show up to practice." She glared around the room. Honestly what was wrong with this team. The game was awful and now some of them seemed to be sleeping out there. "The game this past week was just ridiculous, I'm wondering if I might have traded the wrong position." She was glaring towards her chasers, her captain especially. "I'm not sure what was wrong there, but if it doesn't start improving some of the reserves will end up starting. I will make sure of it." She glanced towards Fitzpatrick to see if he would have the nerve to try and disagree.

"Now I do have two other things that needed discussed." She pulled out the parchments and handed them over. "This is a form about the ministry rules and punishments that changed. I think they are stupid. Obviously you need people like Low playing more aggressively to win. So if it happens I'll find a loop hole." She smirked a bit, she wasn't rewarding them persay, but she wasn't going to say not to do it either. "Though I have to have you sign these to make sure I keep them on file saying you are aware and understand." She was a little late on getting those, but oh well. HA!

"Any questions?"

"Wonder whose head she's gonna rip off first," Esme murmured to Muirgen before hearing the click-clack of heeled shoes coming closer. Just the sound of them annoyed her and set her on edge, and she straightened up as she waited for the woman to walk in. And there she was, as sarcastic as ever. Esme turned her eyes on her a moment, quickly averting them as she caught the glare directed towards her.

She knew she had a hand in losing the match. Her game was off, but she often let herself be ruled by emotions. Usually she was able to redirect them in a more productive way, but this game left her too distracted and she was barely able to get the quaffle through the hoops. Luckily Agnelli and Crewe were there as well or the score might have been worse. Certainly not her best performance and she wasn't happy herself.

Her cheeks tinged red as Rebecca mentioned trading the wrong position and having reserves start. One bad game shouldn't justify that. And she would work harder in practice this week, but not for Rebecca. Esme finally glanced towards the woman again as she started talking about something else -Ministry things. She had heard that they were starting to become pickier about things.

Questions? Sure, she had one. Esme raised an eyebrow as she looked towards their manager. "Yes.. you say that we need aggressive players like Low to win.. If that is true, why did you get rid of him?" Dumb move on her part if you asked her, and she avoided Charpentier's look.

Muirgen rolled her eyes and shook her head, sighing heavily when Esme made the comment about whose head would be ripped off first. "Doesn't matter, it'll hit us all anyway." She knew they were all her targets at the end of the day. The beater kept shaking her leg as she could tell Rebecca was coming by the sound of her shoes.

The woman entered and was already spreading her sick personality all over the room. Muirgen pursed her lips when she started to put them down and she had to take a deep breath when she mentioned she might've traded the wrong position. It was just ridiculous how their manager treated them like children, but Murigen wasn't going to point that out right now because she wasn't crazy. "Still getting used to the new formation, that's all." No need to fire them for that. Surely Rebecca knew there would be a lot more work to do if she started with a brand new team now.

The beater was wondering the exact same thing as Esme and was glad her captain decided to ask the question. To be fair, Muirgen could play more aggresively, but that didn't mean she would purposefully break the rules. She hit bludgers to take players down, of course, but not to kill them.

Not that Low ever killed anyone, but still. What, the woman wanted her to up her game? She could do that, but not because of the way she was telling them off. Muirgen loved her job and would like to keep it, that was all. Being in the Catapults meant a lot for her and she would work hard to keep that position.

The former Hufflepuff glanced at the parchment she was given, taking a look at the new rules and punishments.

She kept looking around the room waiting for anyone to step out of line. She enjoyed watching them squirm, it was always fun to have people fear you. She found that out at an early age. Blue eyes moving around to make sure everyone got that parchment, “Now we’ve been over these before. Fines have doubled, they have suspensions in there.” Blah, blah blah, she could care less about it, even made sure to misplace the forms, but Selwyn just had to be a pain about things. Seriously what was with owners needing to be involved? Couldn’t they just sit back and let her have the control.

Taking a look at Tupper first she nodded, she could understand that. “Well you have until next match before one of you find a reserve in your spot.” Hearing a rebuttal from Fitzpatrick she glared, “Fine they better be perfect next match or it will be your job, not theirs.” She wasn’t afraid of firing coaches, it was easy to find new ones. “I’m not planning on any new changes the rest of this season. I do think we have a winning team, your focus just needs to be put in the right place.” and not on rumored boyfriends and traded teammates. She eyed a few of them.

Hearing a question from the captain she turned her eyes to Esme, “Low’s trade was a hard one. I’ll admit. He was an excellent player, but Low was traded to keep others. Believe me it was the right trade at the time.” She glanced towards Tupper again. Did she realize how close she came to it being her? “Sometimes we have to sacrifice to be on top. I will make many to make this team head of this league.” She knew what she was doing and if they were smart they’d listen to her.

Chewing on the inside of her lip, Esme's grey eyes scanned the contents of the document she was handed as she vaguely heard Rebecca's words filter through her ears. She had been fined a couple times herself but she saw it as part of the game. And Rebecca's tone told her that she didn't care so why should she?

The Chaser glanced up as their manager continued, looking over at their coach as they bantered a bit about reserves. But she didn't have anything to add. It would be useless anyway and she did plan on upping her game. As much as they might need to have reserves for the team, she was not about to let one take her position. She just did not care for the threat. But she did look at Rebecca in slight surprise as she made the winning team comment. It was too bad she hadn't thought of Low in that as well, and Esme caught the woman's look which made her quickly avert her eyes.

But speaking of Low, Esme looked up again as Rebecca addressed her question. Sounded like a bunch of excuses and she didn't buy it for a second. None of it made sense and she still felt a little bitter about it. And it sounded like she could care less ho was on the team as long as they were winning. A thought that didn't sit well with her. Taking a moment to compose herself so no emotions were readily apparent, she looked at Rebecca and said, "Was there anything else?" She thought she said two things, but she didn't really want to stick around here all day.

Merlin, this was getting a bit ridiculous. Muirgen read through the new rules and her eyes widened when she reached the one that regarded wands. "We can't 'ave our wands on us anymore!?? 'ho in their right mind would make a rule like this??" This was ridiculous and NOT safe. "In extreme cases we'll be vulnerable and if anything ever 'appens it will be the Ministry's fault!" The beater said irritably, frowning as she shook her head in disbelief. "This is ridiculous."

She wasn't even nervous about Rebecca telling them off anymore. The new rules were pointless!

But fine, they had until the next match to up their game and prove they were a worthy team or something. Muirgen was up for that, but it didn't mean she was pleased with these new regulations. "We don't 'ave any choice, do we?" Other than playing by these new rules. Ugh. And yes, their focus would be in the right place, Rebecca need not worry about that.

Low was the right trade at the time? Muirgen eyed their manager for a moment and noticed the certain look she sent her way. The beater blinked uncomfortably, but made sure she didn't soften her expression. Well. She was with Rebecca on making sure the team was at least one of the best of the league. And well, she would abide with the new rules. Show everyone they could still win even with those new regulations.

Rebecca could care less what they thought about the rules, she thought they were pointless and a waste of time. The fines ridiculous and she’d find ways around it. Aggressive players were what won games and got fans off their seats cheering. Cooper was right and the Games department was run by two softy idiots. There was a reason the manager would never leave her position and if Rebecca had anything to do with it, she’d get her fired. Such a ridiculous power trip to make all these changes. “They say that the officials, coaches, and healers have their wands and that is plenty for safety. Of course I will always have mine and so will Selwyn.” That’s when Selwyn actually came. The owner was here and there , which she preferred the there so she could do what she wanted. “As much as I hate to admit their statistics are right and no one has needed a wand during a match in a long time. There has been some players using them when they are not allowed, so the ministry thinks the safety of taking them is greater than the safety of keeping them.” Hopefully it wouldn’t backfire on the ministry.

She watched the eyes and reactions, “Just sign it and move on.” snapping at the ones that seemed like they were going to complain more. There was nothing any of them were going to change it so it was time to get over it. She had told them about these rules after the initial meeting so this was nothing new. “No you don’t, if you want to play you will sign it.” They better be on their best behavior or at least get better at being sneaking about the aggression. “[/b]

Did she have something else? She paused and looked at her captain, “Well I could stand here and discuss some rumors I’ve been hearing, but I don’t have enough hours in the day to go over all that.” She had heard of a few contract thoughts and there was the little rumor about a manager and one of her players. “Summerby has set up a community event to give back for the holidays, so I will need as many of you next Sunday as possible. It’s a toy donation to hand out at St. Mungos children unit.” She really didn’t care which ones showed up as long at least some of them did. She wasn’t all that into giving back, but knew good publicity was something they had to have.

Esme glanced up at Muirgen's exclamation, then lowered her eyes to the parchment again, reading a little more carefully. She felt like she was missing something when she didn't have her wand on her, but she supposed she could see the point. So they had to rely on self-serving Rebecca and only there when she feels like it Selwyn if something happened. Just great. "That's kind of stupid," she said, reading over that section again. "Why wouldn't they just penalize those who are misusing that privilege rather than just take it away from everyone." It was more an out loud complaint than anything else. She knew that asking that question wasn't going to get any real answers or change anything.

She blinked as Rebecca then snapped at her, not that she was surprised, just the suddenness startled her. But she grabbed a quill and signed it before handing it back. Esme knew there wasn't much choice in the matter and she did love her job so she wanted to play. She glanced up as the manager mentioned rumors and she nervously tucked a lock of hair behind her ear as she furtively glanced over at Muirgen. Esme knew what one of those rumors could possibly be, and it might not be good for the beater. But she looked back at Rebecca as she mentioned the charity event and she grinned a bit. "Sure, I'm in." She loved kids and knew how much a lot of them really liked Quidditch and the players. She had no problem giving back to the community, especially if it made some sick kids happy.

Rebecca could really care less about the few rule changes that went into effect, so when her captain questioned the wand change she just glared for a moment, "I'm not sure, I think it's just like the fines doubling. They've done it and we have to deal with it, but if you think you can change their mind since clearly the managers couldn't, go right ahead. Level seven in the ministry. Speak to Mairel De la whatever and Victoria Culloden." That was all she was going to say about that. She collected signed parchments instead.

Once all were collected and Summerby was finished with her ~~boring~~ detailed giving back event, she looked around the room. That's when she heard different players saying they were in. "You can tell her after, this isn't a classroom or school, you don't have to speak up or say right now." Glancing at Esme she wasn't surprised that she volunteered. She seemed like the child type. She would being staying far away from that place. Germs and children no thank you.

"That's all I have, so clean up, go home and be at practice bright and early tomorrow. You have work to do." They lost so no off day this week.

Ugh, why was Rebecca glaring at her now? Esme wasn't questioning her about the wands, she knew she had nothing to do with it, but she didn't really like that being punished for something others were doing when she could stick to the rules. And she was just voicing that injustice aloud. Still she held the woman's gaze a moment as she replied to her questioning. Esme didn't particularly think she was going to change anybody's mind, so no, she wasn't going to go talk to Mariel De La whatever or Victoria Culloden. She just wanted to know why, but it obviously wasn't worth even talking about. You just couldn't talk to someone like Rebecca.

She didn't even need to hear that much about the St Mungo's charity appearance from their coach. Esme loved kids, especially ones that might be excited to see a real Quidditch player, and even more so if it was a sick kid who might be stuck at the hospital during the holidays. What kid wanted that? And it didn't surprise her too much that Crewe and Agnelli volunteered as well. She gave them both a grin that faded slightly, blinking as she heard Rebecca's words. Seriously. Who cared if they spoke up now instead of later. Horrible woman. At least she could count on not seeing her at the hospital when they went there.

Huh. They got off luckier than she thought they would, especially after that loss. But Esme wasn't complaining. Starting to head out, she turned to her teammates. "Who's going out?" She wasn't ready to go right home, but she would still be at practice on time tomorrow. Her manager wasn't going to dictate her private life.

She was sitting at her desk ~~filing her nails~~ going over paperwork. The season had been going well, but it could get better. She knew it could be a lot better. So her last minute decision when her father called her to give her a tip was something that she felt was going to give the push that they needed. Yes, it would have been more helpful if it was a quicker seeker, but this beater could be just as important. With Low gone, she needed a more aggressive person. The dynamic had been off, though she still stood by her choice to remove the man.

Suspended from the league, that was very interesting to her and she would possibly see what she had read was actual truth and what wasn't. Checking the time, he should be here by now, so she set out the contract, rule guidelines, and all the stupid paperwork that she could care less about. She wanted to get him on the pitch and get him started. It was time for him to meet Tupper and get a groove as beaters.

When all the crap had gone down recently, the last place that Joe expected to end up was bloody Wales. Wales with all the sing-songy bloody Welsh muggles who, upon hearing his unmistakably Australian accent, usually felt the need to start some convo about Rugby and about how at least if they hadn't won the last World cup, neither had Aussie, but that they'd take out the All Blacks next time. Joe's familiarity with Rugby was probably better than most wizards, but of course his priority was an entirely different sport. He lived and breathed Quidditch. And today would prove that it was about what you knew AND who you knew, or he wouldn't be here at all.

He wrapped his knuckles on the door and then strode into Rebecca's office. It had been a while.

"Aren't you a sight for sore eyes, luv." Could he sit? He was gonna sit. Joe sat.

Chairs could be comfier.

She heard the wrap on the door and automatically her smile grew.She didn't have to wonder what annoying thing Fitzpatrick wanted, no she knew it wasn't the coach at this point. Though they'd be seeing the entire team in a few minutes. She wanted some private words with her newest player first.

Turning in her chair she didn't bother to get up, " Joseph Franks-Mundie if I would have bet on the day you'd be walking through my office here, I'd lost it all." Her smirk playful rather then evil. "When father sent me the message of your suspension, well I had to go looking for myself." She shook her head a bit before coming around and sitting at the edge of the desk, "Always good to keep your connections, isn't it?" He might not be int he room right now if she hadn't know his style.

"You've found your way around alright? We'll go meet the team and things in a moment. I have some paperwork I need you to fill out." She pulled the papers around, "The contract we have been discussing all there, the ministries wonderful rules and guidelines that they wish all players to sign." Her tone and eye rolling had to prove her distaste for them. "Do you have any questions so far on anything?"

"I was framed." He said first of all, already having made himself as comfortable as possible in the seat provided. Well he could charm it or something but he wasn't the greatest with his wand, and all his charms were generally put to use in other ways: case in point, the smile he directed at Rebecca. "Oh yep, I'm all about making connections." Aaaaaaaall sorts, and he wasn't alluding to squishing bits of lego together neither.

"Yeah I'm alright. You've seen one place like this, you've seen 'em all." Joe eyed the papers and shrugged one shoulder philosophically. Paperwork was a bloody drag, but a necessary evil for all of that. "S'more strict here then?" Couldn't be that different, really.

"Nah no questions for me." He'd sign the thing and get on with it.

Actually dropping out of school had been the smart choice for him, if his career was anything to show for it... and it was, clearly.

"He'd be daft not to listen." Joe said and nodded once, assertively.

Jon. Ex-wife. Quidditch division. Alright. Joe nodded, wondering why Rebecca hadn't done anything to make that work for her. Ah well, she knew what she was about, he was sure.

The foul limit thing just made him shrug one shoulder, and then Joe just signed. Eh he'd read it again later. No big deal.

"Right then. Lets get busy." He said, sliding the signed papers back to her and standing up. Time to see what he thought of his new teammates.

...and vice versa.

She laughed, yes it was an actual laugh, because he was right. None of her players were ever stupid enough to get caught and if they were, well they wouldn't be around long after. "I would certainly hope not. I have faith there will be no troubles here." It was a comment that she meant, she'd be watching. Rebecca was good about being in the know. She tried to stay one step ahead of the media.

She was remembering quickly why she liked this one and why she snatched him up even in the middle of the season. "Your right." but it didn't matter they all in the end listened to her. It was ridiculous not.

Taking the papers and putting them aside she ran her hands down her skirt flattening it before moving. "Very well." Flicking her wrist to open the door, "Down the hall we go."

She showed him different areas uninterested as she made her way to the locker room. This better go good and they all better be around. Checking the time practice would be starting soon.

Esme often got to practice early to do some extra laps around the pitch to clear her head before the rest of the team got there. She found the solidarity helpful in collecting her thoughts before discussing strategies with coach and the rest of the team. That did not happen on this particular morning, however, as she found it a bit difficult to get out of bed any earlier than she had to, but she was here now. Her late just happened to be on time.

She headed into the locker room already dressed in her practice gear and exchanged a few pleasantries with those of her team already assembled there. Glancing in the mirror at her locker, Esme started pulling her hair back in a ponytail when she heard the unmistakable click-clack of high heels on the floor coming nearer. Her eyes shifted in the mirror to see Rebecca's reflection there and she finished fixing her hair before turning back around to see what she wanted. She rarely visited the locker room.

And.. who was that? Esme had heard a certain rumor but was it really true this late in the season? She'd feel bad for Charpentier if it was, even if she had been somewhat bitter about the trade in the first place.

"Nahhh no troubles. I think I'll like it here." Joe had no plans to make any trouble - NOT that he had in the first place, or at least nothing that he'd been pinned for.

As they walked and she showed him around, he mentally shuffled the different locations into his mental map, until finally they were at the locker rooms. There was a bit of a hush as his new teammates looked up and clocked him there.

He stretched languidly and assessed them right on back. Joe's entire demeanor was relaxed, except for the glint in his eyes that suggested something far more interested and knowing. Matching faces with stats, he was.

"G'day." He said, breaking the silence and rocking on his heels slightly.

This would be good.

Had practice started yet? No, good, she didn’t want to deal with her heels on the pitch. Personally she hated going near that grass. Looking around the locker room she rolled her eyes hearing some of the talk. They should be talking more Quidditch or getting ready faster, not about relationships and going out later. She glanced at her seeker and beater or well now reserved beater. She’d find out in a minute. Looking around she glanced at Joe who seemed to carry a confident persona around him. She liked that, it was good.

Yes this was a good choice.

“Listen up all of you, this will only take a minute and then you better be out of the pitch practicing.” Her arms crossed as she looked around. “I’ve made a few new changes so make sure you are listening, Adria you will be playing this week for Kristin, Kirstin you are going to go on reserve until you start proving a bit.” She was there to win not just come in bloody second or lower. No, that wasn’t her style. “Delicia you are now on Reserve. Everyone meet our newest teammate, Joseph Franks-Mundie, he played for the Australian league and has now been signed with us.” They didn’t need all the details of his past, so she just decided on vague.

“He’s a great player and I expect you all to introduce yourself and make him feel welcomed.” Turning more towards him she glanced to a certain brunette, “This is Esme Whittebrook, she’s your captain.” Glancing at Esme she felt her look was enough for her to know she should be showing him around. “I’ll leave you all to your practice now, unless anyone has any questions.” Though they shouldn’t it was pretty self-explanatory to her.

Esme gave the man a small smile and nod as he spoke, opening her mouth to greet him in return but quickly closing it as Rebecca called for attention, her grey eyes snapping to her. Wait.. what? She glanced at Kristin, first somewhat surprised by that announcement then a little frustrated. As much as she knew the reserves needed to have their shot at playing, Esme felt that she had a good game rapport with her fellow chasers, something that took them a while to achieve. It would take extra practice to fall into that groove with Adria for their next game.

Though that would seem to not be the only change coming, this one a little more permanent maybe. So the rumors were true. Esme gave a quick glance to Delicia before looking back at their new teammate - Joseph. She couldn't help but wonder why Rebecca felt they needed yet another beater, especially when she had just traded a great beater at the beginning of the season and it was nearing the end of the season. Though to be honest, even if Charpentier wasn't a bad beater, she wasn't quite meshing with the team just yet. Not that she had much time to do so.

Glancing yet again at their manager as she heard her name before looking back at Joseph again. Oh she had questions, though she wasn't sure she felt at liberty to ask just now. She stepped forward, giving him a small smile, and offered her hand to shake. "Hi, I'm Esme.. I play chaser." She allowed any of the others to offer their names as well before looking back at him. "Would you like me to show you around before practice starts?" They probably had a few minutes to spare before they needed to get started.

Off season, she loved it and hated it. Rebecca loved the competition and skill it took to sign the best and get the trades one needed to be number one. She needed a new seeker, possibly a new keeper, but right now her eyes had been on a chaser. She had good chasers, she knew she did, but she needed to force this comfort zone away. The comfort zone was never a good thing with teams. They got lazy if they got to close in her eyes.

Thought she knew she had taken care of such comforts when she was able to trade Kristin for one Arthur Lee. He had been watching the mans stats and his broom skills towards the end of the season and nabbing one of the Magpies players after there loss to them and her little bet with their now manager.

Putting her feet up on the chair next to her she sat with the paperwork giving it a second look before Mr. Lee walked through the door. Checking the time she knew he'd be there soon.
