Default South Side of the Street

The south end of the street begins at the playground and stretches on to reveal Gringotts Wizarding Bank and a variety of shops and businesses that will suit the needs of just about any witch or wizard. A mixture of smells, from the coffee at Espresso Patronum to the potions at Madam Primpernelle's, fill the air. Both the young and the young at heart can stock up on items ranging from a new wand to an assortment of magical items that have seen better days. There's even a joke shop for those of you out for a good laugh. I'd think wisely about my choices or words and actions, though! Its cobblestones may be chipped or dusty from excessive wear over the years of being trampled on by many thousands of feet. Large glass windows grab your attention with various signs and merchandise, in attempts to lure you into those shops and spend more money you may or may not have.

Outside several shops are park benches, perfect for a quick chat or rest of your feet. But don't sit too long - these spots are high in demand and you may run the risk of being sat on or someone tripping over your feet. Not to mention that the rubbish bin next to the bench near Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes wreaks of various stenches of items that have been tossed away. Shame because if they hadn't absorbed the smells, one man's junk might become another man's treasure.

Actually, talking to someone her own age and in the same position made the whole going to school thing feel a lot more real. (And scary.)

She smirked at her remark. "Huh, thanks." Remy chuckled slightly. "Hi, Lisa. I'm Remy G..." She paused. You shouldn't give all of your personal details to strangers. "Remy." She confirmed. "Are you going into your first year like me?" It would be nice to know someone before starting.

"Well..." Here we go. "Yes, smooth pebbles are great for throwing, also they're good for keeping." I mean, not everyone liked to KEEP rocks, but... she kinda wanted to keep the one that Lisa picked up. She reached out to take it from her. "They just need to be big enough, really, so I think we need a bigger pebble than that one." Remy pointed to the one Lisa had picked up. "Here, this one looks better than your one." She rushed over to the curb which she had spotted it near and picked it up to examine it closer. It was quite heavy, and had a few corners on it.

"This one would hurt if it hit someone in the back, huh?" Remy smirked and then couldn't help but laugh a bit.
Lisa beamed as the other girl introduced herself, not paying much attention to the fact that Remy had stopped herself from introducing her full name. She nodded twice to the girl’s question. “Mhmm. I’ll be a first year too!” Lisa was excited for Hogwarts - she couldn’t wait. “Are you excited to go to Hogwarts?” She had met people excited, terrified, meh, and even some that looked bored about the prospect of going to or back to Hogwarts so Lisa was interested in hearing Remy’s thoughts on this.

Lisa played with the rock in her hand, enjoying the smooth surface. She found it calming and it reminded her of camping with her family over the summer. Lightsaber duels, late night BBQs, swimming in lakes, s’mores, and rock throwing competitions.....

At the mention of keeping rocks, Lisa raised an eyebrow. “So keeping as a pet?” Her little mind wandered if one could have a rock as a pet. She supposed it was the best hypoallergenic pet that one could have. But there was probably a spell to make it talk or to act like an animal, right? “Do you want this one?” she asked, noting that Remy was reaching for it so she passed the rock to her. She listened to Remy’s advice and her eyes scanned the ground, looking for a good one to pick up. She flicked her eyes back to Remy as she showed her one and then she watched as the girl rushed over to pick up a larger, rougher rock. Wow... That rock looked like it could bite. Dangerous, heavy, and hurtful.

If rocks could bite, that one could ...” she admitted with a nod before joining in with a chuckle. “It could be painful. The sharp edges... Oof.

But seeing as this kid had tried to help him he let out a sigh because he did feel a bit bad. ”I know you were…. it’s okay” he admitted and as he watched the tail of the black cat go around the corner and vanish out of sight , he turned to look at the other boy. ”…. i just bought that cat” like, ten minutes ago! ”I don’t even have a name yet!” he groaned and scratched the back of his neck with his injured hand .

He began wondering if the cats in Diagon Alley could find their way back to their owners or if he should start hanging up wanted posters already when a bandage was handed to him.

Daniel blinked. Looked down at the bandage and then back up at the boy who introduced himself as Alfie. ”How clumsy are you that you carry these around?” he laughed in a non-rude way. It was a genuine question actually.

For a short moment he thought about introducing himself as Batman again like he had done to that one RUDE girl before but since Alfie had been nice so far he decided to go with his real name. ”Daniel” he said back before accepting the bandage with a quick thanks and ripped off the back before sticking it on top of the scratch. ”Do you go to Hogwarts?” he asked as he placed the left over paper in his pocket. ”My big brother graduated last year and i’m starting my first year soon, exciting right?! ” he bounced on the ball of his feet as he thought about going to the same school where his brother had almost been killed by a cult leader studied!
"Oh, you just bought it?" That was unfortunate. "You should probably go look for it then." Losing something you just bought? Alfie couldn't relate... yes, he could, who was he kidding. It had happened to him so, so many times. It was kind of a problem actually. Might have been why his uncle Luca had offered to go do the school shopping for him. Yeah, that now made sense. He chuckled when the boy commented on him having a supply of bandages. Then he realised the answer to his question was 'very'. "A bit." He wasn't lying, was he? It was technically still true.

Alfie ruminated about the countless times he had gotten injured in his life. At least he had never broken a bone. "Yes, I'm a first year too!" Talk about killing two birds with one stone, he had not only met a boy around his age from Britain but that boy also happened to be a Hogwarts first year. "My parents wanted to send me to Beauxbatons but I wanted to go to Hogwarts. It took them a while to agree to send me here but they eventually did."

Eeeeeeep!!!! Another firstie!!! Suddenly, Remy's mood got even more excitable than it already was, and visibly so. She was even thinking quick scenarios in her head about her and Lisa being BEST FRIENDS FOREVER.

I mean... who wouldn't be excited about going to Hogwarts? Someone lame, that's who. "Of course I am. It's gonna be a little weird having to, you know, sleep at school... but it's alright because we're gonna be witches." Technically they already were witches but with zero experience. "And I think I'm gonna be in Gryffindor like my sister, and my mum." She hoped so anyway. Like, she'd be actually devastated if she wasn't. "What house do you think you're gonna be in?" Obviously the correct answer would be Gryffindor. Remy watched her very expectantly.

"Noo, no..." No. "Keeping rocks as pets is lame and weird. It's just a collection. You could have some rocks, some pebbles, some shells." She trailed off. Remy had a box at home that she had decorated with stickers. She thought about how she hid it underneath her bed, and suddenly wished she had never brought the subject up. Still, Remy nodded and took the rock that was being offered to her and stuffed it into her pocket. She hadn't really given Lisa a choice in the matter.

Remy grinned wider. "Maybe we should kick that one then. You should try..." She paused. "Try not to hit anyone, of course." Or perhaps that would make this much more fun..........

The blonde pointed to the Butterbeer Cart. "Aim for its wheel." And be prepared to RUN in case any grown ups noticed.

Lisa had honestly not thought much about sleeping away from home but the idea of sleeping at school kind of terrified her. She’d miss her room buuuut she’d have her siblings around save for her oldest brother. And perks of being at school and sleeping meant they could stay up late, right? Didn’t have an assigned bed time either? “Oh yeah... it will be. Will it be like one giant sleepover or will we have an assigned bed time? I think there’s a curfew but I don’t know about an assigned bed time.” She’d definitely bring her toy lightsaber and Ba, her fluffy, sheep toy with her. Mhmm... She’d need those two things to help her adjust... Plus magic. She nodded at Remy’s encouraging words. Yes! They would be fine. They were witches!! Well gonna be experts after a few years. It was all gonna be fine. When Remy mentioned Gryffindor, Lisa beamed. “Cool! My eldest brother was a Gryffindor. My second brother’s a Ravenclaw and my older sister is a Slytherin. So honestly I think either house would be good. I don’t know much about Hufflepuff except that my brother’s gi- ex-girlfriend is in that house.” Most people she had been nice. “I’m hoping for Ravenclaw or Slytherin or Gryffindor.” Mostly Ravenclaw. Maybe Gryffindor. Slytherin was a strong contender though.

Oh. So not as pets. And she didn’t have a choice, really, when she handed over the rock. She didn’t really want it. Goodbye Toph..... “Right... That’d be strange to keep them as pets...” Not that she had wanted to.... Not at all. Though a rock would make a great pet - you wouldn’t have to feed it or water it. It would just sit like a cat lazily in the sun in pure glory. “I collect seashells... Well my Eomma does and she gave me her collection to add too.” Lisa was very proud of that.

Lisa offered a smirk to Remy. “50 points to Gryffindor if we ‘accidentally’ hit someone with a rock?” She mimicked quotation marks with her fingers around the word accidentally.

At Remy’s direction, Lisa nodded and watched the butter beer cart approach. Right. She had to aim and hit it at the wheel. It was moving but it was moving slowly. She took a deep breath and then kicked the rock, lifting it up into the air as it hurled towards the butter beer cart. Glancing at Remy, she whispered. “Should we run?” Not daring to look if it hit a person, the cart, or a window.

Hmm, good question. She hadn't thought about having a bedtime at Hogwarts. There had to be a bedtime because otherwise the common rooms would be up partying ALL night, throwing spells and all sorts of shenanigans. Sounded awesome. "I dunno. I think the professors might be really strict..." Remy couldn't pinpoint why, she just made that assumption. Remy gasped a little when Lisa DIDN'T say she was hoping for Gryffindor. Well, that tarnished her plans for them to be best friends. "You don't mind where you are placed then?" Admittedly, Remy was surprised to hear someone wanting to be placed in Slytherin. Wasn't that for evil people? As you can tell, her Hogwarts knowledge was seriously lacking.

Remy smiled a little, getting the impression that Lisa didn't think it was lame to collect stones, rocks, and pebbles. Either that or she could sense how uncomfortable she felt talking about it and was trying to make her feel better. She reached into her pocket and pulled the smooth stone back out. "Here, you can have it actually. It's not that nice anyway." She offered it to Lisa with a smile. It WAS nice, but she was just being awkward as heck.

LOL, WAT?

Maybe this girl WAS destined to be in Slytherin.

Before Remy knew it, Lisa kicked the stone. She kicked it hard and Remy was hella impressed. She didn't even wait for the stone to land, she grabbed Lisa by the arm and dragged her down the south end of the street, running as fast as she could and laughing the whole way. When the cart was out of view, Remy slowed down and caught her breath. "You probably dented the wheel!!" But it was awesome!

A confused look came over Daniel as Alfie suggested to go look for the cat and he cocked his head to the side a little bit, looking at him curiously “Why would i go look for it when i can always buy a new one?” he wondered as if cats weren't expensive at all. He had not made a bond with the black cat yet anyway. Maybe it was HAPPY now that it was finally free from the store!

“Bow ba ton?” he asked, completely butchering the name but he didn’t care. “That’s the french school right? Are you french? Your name does not sound french. Is it a fake name?”

He was a first year too? That was kind of unfortunate . He had hoped him to be a second year so that he could have asked him questions about what had happened during the hostage take-over last year . His brother had not even mentioned a word, too traumatized by the events. Which was super lame if you asked him.

But, if he was a first year... that meant that the boy had just gotten his wand right?!

Looking thrilled, Daniel rolled up his right sleeve to reveal a very expensive Manticore wrist holster and pulled out his wand to show the other boy. “LOOK! I got my wand, doesn’t it look amazing?!” he asked as the thing began to have a mind of its own and he accidentally shot a colored spark to the ground with a loud -BANG- “Oh geez! I’m sorry about that!”

Mamie Margaret TUrov did not care for surfing, but she knew Ash did, so if this boyfriend liked to surf, that was probably a good thing. And food was good, soo cooking was good as well. She smiled back at her friend.

AND also good, that Ashley wasn't actually considering leaving. Mamie let out a sigh of relieve and gave her friend a quick side hug. "Good, I'm glad. About the boyfriend and you staying."

She kicked a pebble down the street and put her hands in her pocket. "I've never had a boyfriend before. What's it like??"

Oooh! A hug! Ash loveeeeed hugs. They were the most awesome (and her boyfriend understood that, so that was also great). Yay. She gave Mamie a side hug back. "Okay. So it's like, someone who you like, but they also like you, and you want to like like them forever, so then you hang out a lot in the hopes that you will still like like each other later. And in the meantime, you have fun and hang out. Except for some people don't have fun and they take it out on other people." AHEM. "But I do have fun. So no problems there. Plus, you can cry on their shoulder, and tell them secrets and stuff that you wouldn't trust with just anybody." That was about as well as she could explain a relationship between teenagers. The most important part though, was hugs. Duh. Hugs were the greatest. "To be honest, when you're only 13, it's not that different from being friends." It really wasn't. But it also kinda was. "It's fun tho." Ash smiled. The greatest part of her "relationship" was that it made her happy and not sad like everything else did. What a miracle.

Someone who you want to mutually like like forever. That sounded nice. Telling secrets was less of a draw to Mamie, who had no secrets. Ahem. Well, except from her Muggle childhood friends and extended family, she supposed. And from her immediate family, too, about...things...okay, Margaret had secrets. But not from just anybody.

"That does sound fun!" she said. And hugs were nice. Maybe she needed to find a boyfriend too. For the hugs, obviously. Or maybe she just needed more friends. Since Aboli had graduated. She needed a replacement pseudo-big-sister. Not a pseudo-big-brother, though, she already had enough big brothers. "I like friends."

She kicked at another pebble. Diagon Alley had a lot of street pebbles. "Do you think...do you think we'll have a normal term this year?" What did normal even look like at Hogwarts? It seemed she couldn't get through a year without nearly dying, despite being the least dramatic person in their year. Maybe because she spent a lot of time with one of the more dramatic students in her year?? But it was worth it, Ash was an excellent friend who taught her things.

It was good to have a smart friend, especially when you were, ahem, less smart.

"I mean if you want to spend more money, sure, go ahead." That sounded incredibly backhanded and sarcastic, but Alfie normally spoke like that, so it was nothing new. Why spend more money when there was an option not to. To be fair, the cat might have been extremely elated when it ran away from Daniel's clutches and the shop.

Alfie internally grimaced when Daniel completely butchered the name of the French school. "Alfie's actually a nickname. My actual name is Alfred, which has a long history of being French." He didn't normally tell people his actual name, but it was clearly necessary here. "And I'm also only half French." Only his father's side was French. His mother's side, which he infinitely preferred, was English. Alfie looked at the boy's wand when he was beckoned to and was in the middle of complimenting it when it took a mind of its own. "That's a nice wa-" When the spark burst towards the ground, Alfie fell backwards in surprise, landing on the cobbled street.

"Ow."

"I like friends too."
The real ones who were there when you needed to sob into someone's shoulder. The ones who would back you up in a fight. The ones who would defend your reputation when you weren't there. The kind that trusted you with their everything. And the kind who checked to see if you were alright. Those friends.

If you can't trust your friends with your life, then you can't trust them with anything.

"A normal year? I don't know." What even was normal? Almost dying was pretty normal at this point. "I just want a safe year. It doesn't have to be normal- change the uniform to make us all wear ridiculous pink hats and clown shoes. Make a bunch of kittens appear every time I feel like crying. Something harmless this time." She laughed. Almost for real, which sounded sad but was better than usual. "Make it rain beef and potatoes from the sky." She didn't care about normality. She just wanted safety, happiness, and lots and lots of hugs.

Strict Professors? She HOPED NOT but they probably were strict. All adults were strict even her parents... well her Dad really wasn’t but her Mum was. Her Mum ran the household and her eldest brother, Noah, was her commander in chief. “Uh oh hopefully they are not too... too strict. And they can take a joke?” Maybe. Maybe not? If not, Hogwarts was going to be rough. Lisa liked pranks, jokes, and more! Did she mind where she was placed? “Not really? I think all of them have their perks... I think the Sorting Hat will know best. It must have a very extensive resume and track record,” she joked with a grin.

Now Remy was offering her the rock in return. She was touched but she wasn’t sure if it was COOL to show just how much she appreciated it. “Oh thanks!” she said with a grin and a nod. She would take this rock with her to Hogwarts. And she would name it... Boulder.

She never backed down from a challenge. She was stubborn and always liked to push herself more. Smirking as she watched the rock soar, she was quite proud of herself so she enjoyed watching the rock in the air. However, Remy grabbed her arm and the two girls ran as fast as they could. She giggled when they stopped and then paused to catch her breath. “That. Was. Awesome.” She giggled.

Do we do it again?

Mamie would uhhh...definitely let Ashley sob into her shoulder, and she'd try to get her out of trouble if she could but...she was not big on fighting. Who knew if she'd back the other girl up in a fight? She definitely would.

"Isn't normal safe?" She errrr...would prefer not to wear pink hats and clown shoes. The modest Hufflepuff yellow accents on her uniform were bad enough. "I do like kittens, though," she said with a giggle. Who knew Ash was funny? "Can it rain spaghetti too?? Like in the book?" Maybe Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was based on some real life magical drama. Maybe Mamie had a future as a Muggle children's book writer.

Wait, no. She wouldn't want to voluntarily open a book, even to write it. Even for The Children.

"So you said in your letter...errr..." She didn't want to pry, but if the Turov parental figures thought she needed therapy after last term, she was pretty sure her best friend needed it too. "When are you going to go to therapy?" Gosh, she wished she still had that ice cream to make this less awkward. Being a good friend was hard.

Ash shrugged. "Well I interpret normal as what happens most often, and in my case, normal isn't all that great." It was incredibly painful actually. Physically and mentally. "I like spaghetti. It should definitely rain spaghetti. Maybe I should ask Theodore to make me some spaghetti." He would probably say yes. He would probably even make two bowls if she pretended to be extra hungry. And then she would eat one bowl and take home the rest 'for later'. But instead she would just go to her room, start joylessly tossing spaghetti everywhere, cry and get somebody else to clean it up. Not a great idea. Maybe she'd only get one bowl, so that she wouldn't be tempted to do that.

"I'm not planning on going. My father and my bodyguards can't make me, and physically dragging a recognizable, high-profile teenager to the therapist is not good for publicity." Her bodyguards really wanted to send her, but they also knew that they couldn't have anyone be asking prying questions. So they were at a standstill. Poor Dustin and Alex. They were not equipped at all for a traumatized magical teenager running around smashing stuff and acting unpredictably with no parental supervision whatsoever. "Therapists are scary and they ask dumb questions. Like 'do you feel traumatized' and 'why do you feel this way'. Have they read the files?" Ash was convinced that this was true. Also, therapists did not encourage denial. And deep down, Ash was honestly scared that her therapist would judge her or wouldn't understand why she was... like this. Like, she was a witch! She had magic powers, which apparently made her special or whatever. And she had more money than virtually everybody. She was rich rich. Shouldn't she be happy? Wasn't she supposed to be recovering? Wasn't she supposed to be resilient? Wasn't she supposed to be forgiving or healing or whatever? Wasn't she supposed to be normal? Happy? Wasn't she supposed to not obsess over everything? Was it bad that she liked to smash stuff and blow it up? Were her feelings... not normal? Ash wasn't interested in hearing her feelings invalidated, but if a therapist validated her feelings and told her she was normal, that would be condescending and pitying. So basically, she thought there was no way therapy would work. And she didn't. Want. To. Go.

Hmm... To be honest, Remy couldn't remember the details about the professors from her sister. There were much more important things to take note of. She grinned. "Maybe we should plan a prank to see if the teachers are cool or not." She had no idea what, but it could make a cool project to go alongside the learning. Remy nodded in agreement at her opinion of the Sorting Hat. She still knew she'd be placed in Gryffindor, though. "Apparently, you can tell the hat where you want to be placed." She'd heard that rumour.

Remy felt much better about herself after Lisa accepted the rock. She already felt like Lisa could make a good friend when they both arrived at Hogwarts, as long as they were both in Gryffindor, of course.

The blonde was still laughing when they came to a stop. "YES, it's my turn this time!!!" Remy replied to Lisa's question about going again. Remy placed her hand on her chin and made a, "Hmmm..." sound. Who what would be her target? Hehe, nah, she couldn't bring herself to intentionally kick a stone at an innocent person. "I wonder if I could kick it all the way to the fountain." She pointed to it in the distance.

Remy picked up a random stone, without accessing it properly, and BOOTED it towards the fountain. It... was a bit of a fail and was barely out of sight when it landed.

"Uhhh... must have been a rubbish rock." She made the excuse.

Mamie shook her head decisively. "No. Normal is what's supposed to happen, not what happens," she said. She was certain of that. Hogwarts could be normal, she was sure, it just hadn't. Not for the past two years, at least.

She scrunched her face as Ash gave all her reasons for not going to therapy. And...they sounded like the reasons she hadn't wanted to go either. But her parents did make her go. "That's not what it's like," she said quietly. "My therapist is really nice. We just draw and play games and we don't even always talk about Hogwarts." She scuffed her foot on the ground, not looking at Ashley while she talked. It was a little uncomfortable, even with her best friend. "It's good because...Ms. Theodore, she um..she's a witch, so she sort of...gets it?" She wrinkled her nose, certain she sounded silly, and looked up at Ashley again. "I can tell her about scary stuff, like, the dragons, and err...she's not my parents, so she can't pull me out of school??"

That was her biggest concern in telling her parents about...the room...the battle...the polyjuice potion. That her parents wouldn't get it, and that they'd not let her go back. And she had to go back. She had to prove she was just as good at magic as somebody with wizard parents. "We also talk about camping. And ballet."

That wasn't what normal meant. Because there was the phrase 'new normal' for when things were bad, which meant that bad things were normal. Normal was just bad. Ash didn't want normal anymore. She wanted safe.

Ash made a face as Mamie talked about therapy. "Why does your therapist have the same name as my boyfriend..." Sure, whatever, ballet and camping and whatever, but Ash was focusing on the sign that the universe gave her, which was more important. What did it mean? Did it mean that A. therapy would be awkward, B. Her boyfriend made her feel relaxed like a therapist, or C. a therapist would make her feel happy like her boyfriend did? So many possible interpretations... "Drawing? I like drawing. It isn't dumb drawing, is it? Like you actually get to draw stuff? I like drawing..." Although games sounded kind of lame. Maybe they could just talk about sports instead. Hmmmm. What Ash was hearing sounded interesting... maybe she would go to therapy next year... but what if it was bad... maybe... "I'll think about it." Would she? Maybe, maybe not. For the first time in a while, Ash felt unsure. Unsure. Unsure.

Ashley's boyfriend was also named Ms. Theodore? That was a weird name for thirteen-year-old boy, she thought. But she just shrugged. "I... don't know? That's just her name that I call her?" She didn't know any other Theodores, but it seemed like a common name around here. "Dumb drawing?" Mamie was very very confused. Could drawing be smart? Did she do smart drawing? "It's just...drawing whatever I feel like that day?" she said with a puzzled look at her friend. "The first time I met her she asked me all about what I like to do, and then we played a board game, because I said I liked them."

"She knows what a microwave is."

Ash still thought that the name 'Ms. Theodore' was sign. She didn't know if it was a good sign or not, but it was definitely a sign. Hmmm.

"Can I draw whatever I want? Like a phoenix or a surfboard or a video game controller?" That was appealing. She did not want to draw pictures of her emotions or whatever. She wanted to draw things that she liked to draw. "So you don't have to play board games if you don't want to? Can I play video games with my therapist?" She would win, obviously, but it would be fun for her and telling for the therapist! "Does she HAVE a microwave?" Could they eat microwave pizza or was that not allowed? Ash would be very happy to go to the therapist if they had video games and pizza and drawing. Ash hated that Mamie made therapy sound so appealing. SHE DIDN'T WANNA GO, OKAY? That was the official narrative. Therapy was a NOPE. All the same, it sounded not too bad...

"Yes, whatever you want," Mamie said, not quite certain if it was true but thinking it was likely. "If you find a therapist who has video games, I bet they'd let you play!" Mamie didn't know if Ms. Theodore had video games or not. She'd never asked. Just like she'd never asked if she had a microwave of her own. "I don't know if she has a microwave, but I can ask next time!" And then she could report back, so Ash would know if Ms. Theodore was right for her too.

"You could always go once, and if you really don't like it you don't have to go again," Mamie said, checking her watch. What time was her Pa picking her up again? "It's not like ballet class, where you sign up for a whole bunch of them at a time." Wait, Ash didn't do ballet.... "Or surf lessons, where you have to keep coming back." Was that a good analogy? Was it even an analogy? What was an analogy? Was the watch an analogy?

"I think I have to go meet my Pa..."
