Default Janus Galloglass

For all your magical mirror needs, Janus Galloglass is the place to be. Sure, you could go to some other knick knack store that doesn't specialize in mirrors, but if you want quality, if you want customization, if you want pure craftsmanship, then you're in the right place. When you walk inside you'll have a hard time not seeing your own reflection somewhere on the walls and displays, and yet equally, not every mirror shows you yourself as you might expect. Some show reflections of completely different places and faces, some show you what you would look like as a different gender or age, some show you how others see you, and some appear not to reflect anything at all. Many of the mirrors call out compliments or advice as you walk close to them. Some seem to watch you as you make your way around the store.

Janus Galloglass deals in three main areas when it comes to mirror making: mirrors for communication, mirrors for vanity and appearance, and mirrors for divination, though there are other types of mirrors available for other needs - just ask. Fancy a foeglass? Need a talking mirror to tell you how fabulous you are? Want a hand mirror charmed to never fog up? Do you need a mirror that will zoom? Maybe you need mirror parts for your telescope, or a mirror charmed to show you the back of your head. Perhaps you're in the market for a prank mirror of some variety. Whatever you need, if it isn't already on the shelves, you can get a quote here, just be aware that some more complex custom requests might take a little time to craft.

You mustn't forget, of course, that Janus Galloglass also provides a Psychomanteum that its valued patrons can make use of, for a price of course. Your Catoptromancy session can be guided too if you need a little help with interpretation, or you may pay to use the Psychomanteum by yourself for a 15, 35, or 55 minute session. Please note there are multitudes of security spells in this store. It isn't wise to try and steal when so many of the mirrors are watching you, not to mention, if you break you DEFINITELY buy, or you might just get sucked into a holding mirror until an auror can be summoned to deal with you.

Angelo Milano Evans - ten years and seven months (give or take), also known as Milo - didn't often go to Diagon Alley, but when he did, he wandered.

Not always without permission. It was Papo Jake who wouldn't let him stray far, but Rose was different, probably because she understood it the same way that Milo did: this street was long but not exactly sprawling. As long as Milo didn't leave it or stray down side alleys - neither of which he felt inclined to do today - it was practically impossible to be lost forever.

Of course, there was the possibility of being kidnapped or cursed or something like that. That was what Papo Jake worried about, though he didn't ever say it out loud, and Milo had naturally considered it too, but it just meant he knew to be careful. He had roamed his village at night for years and years and had always been fine. So this was fine too. And that was that.

These were the arguments he would have presented, perhaps upon retrieval, had it been Papo Jake in charge today. But Milo was here with Rose, and so that was another thing that was fine. He'd left her and Dezi to their errands and ended up at the opposite end of the street, amongst the mirrors, looking for a mirror, in the mirror shop.

Milo had paused just inside the door, kicked off his shoes, and set them neatly out of the way, heels to wall. Now in odd-socked feet (the left one chartreuse with emerald stripes, the right one violet with lilac stripes), he drifted through the shop, sliding his feet as he went because the smooth sensation balanced out the jagged discomfort of the many reflections all around him everywhere. They followed him as he sought out one of two mirrors he'd had his metaphorical eye on ever since he'd heard about them.

Dawn Mitsuki Rasting, the middle triplet and second youngest of the Rasting family, found herself in particularly good spirits today as she spent the part of her allowance she had been meticulously stowing away in various glass jars she had either painted on with acrylics or paper mache to make them more aesthetically pleasing on her shelves. The jar for her older sister's graduation present had reached an acceptable level and Mitsuki had often seen Rebecca's eye wander to this particular shop. An elegant handheld mirror or perhaps something to use on a vanity seemed a smart and useful choice of graduation present. It could be something the soon to be Hufflepuff alumna. Mitsuki presumed that it would be easy to find a mirror with floral designs, but she was hoping to find one adorned with a hummingbird or two.

Best of all, her indulgence jar had also reached an acceptable level and therefore she was owed a trip to both Scrivenshaft's and Flourish and Blotts - which she was particularly excited about.

Her perfectly polished brown doc martens gently glided over the threshold of Janus Galloglass and, once the door had closed behind her, she knelt down to tug up on one of her knee high white socks to ensure that both were pulled to the same level just covering her knees. Satisfied with this minor adjustment, she began perusing the shelves and displays while trying not to get too dizzy from the infinity mirror effect that was quite persistent within this shop. It was during one of her glimpses and glances that the reflection of someone not herself appeared and gave her a mild fright. Even more concerning was that when she turned around to face the boy, who had appeared to be around the same age as herself, was no where to be seen.

"...hello?"

Halfway through a long-legged sliding-stride, Milo stopped, giving the almost comical impression he had had a change of heart after deciding he might attempt the splits. Not that it mattered, how comical he looked, because when he turned he couldn't see anyone. Milo had definitely heard someone, but for some reason he was not too perplexed that there appeared to be nobody attached to the voice.

For a moment - after un-striding his legs - he turned on the spot, very quietly because disembodied voices probably had the potential to be bad as much as they were good, and he didn't have much of a feel for which it was right now, and so it was a good idea to be quiet even if he didn't know why. Though Milo was not fond of looking into all of these mirrors, especially as there were so many and everything repeated back at him started giving him the weird feelings, he peered around at them all.

Still nobody. He turned again, and fixed his attention on the mirror that was closest to the source of the voice. Approaching carefully until he was almost nose-to-nose with his own reflection, Milo stared into its icy blue eyes and waited for it to give away it was not actually a reflection, but a being in its own right.

"Hello?" he replied in almost exact mimicry of tone, his breath fogging up the mirror and briefly compromising visibility.

...Janus Galloglass was haunted. Mitsuki was almost certain of this but her skepticism battled back ferociously with her kneejerk logic. She was well versed in how mirrors could be used to hide things, one of her uncles had shown her a few tricks once, and with the placement and angles of all the mirrors it was entirely plausible that that was precisely what the reflections were doing.

And then she heard a voice that seemed to be echoing her own and it was at least confirmation that she had not imagined seeing someone else here.

"Hello?" repeats again, not knowing what else to say to the spirit of a child who haunted the shop mysterious voice of the faceless boy as she stepped around another stand and peeked around trying to find physical evidence of her apparition. She wanted to ask some rather pointed questions regarding their ghostly existence but could not bear the embarrassment of being incorrect and settled on a more neutral query as well as the polite thing in offering a self introduction. "My name is Dawn Mitsuki, but you can just call me Mitsuki. Are you lost?"

Tabby Krauss had half a mind to yell at the boy to PUT HIS SHOES BACK ON, but the interaction between the two children was so pure and amusing that she held back. From her position behind the counter, she could see both kids, though they were in different areas of the store. Would they figure out the source of the disembodied voice? Goodness, this was just like watching a play! She had never been so pleased by her choice to display two-way mirrors on shelves furthest apart from each other.

The sixty-year-old shopkeeper smiled, adjusted her glasses and returned to the list of custom orders before her. Which was, sadly, very short. It seemed that people were less willing to purchase magical mirrors nowadays, lest they get accused of using them for evil purposes. Thanks a lot, Neo-Alliance.

For. The. Record. Shoes were a hindrance and a nuisance the vast majority of the time. Foot prisons, that's what they were. If there was one thing Milo (usually) didn't want, it was another degree of separation between his own body and the very real ground beneath him.

Plus they were only necessary for being outdoors, and even then not really.

Oblivious to and yet at the same time hyperaware of the fact that he was being watched, Milo blinked hard - once - as the mirror unfogged in front of him. His reflection blinked hard - once - as well, which suggested (but did not prove) that it was really just a reflection. When the glass had cleared entirely, there was nobody suddenly stood behind him like he had half-expected.

Mitsuki.

Milo didn't respond right away, intent as he was on turning and setting himself on a new path. He peered around one mirror, and then into another, before becoming briefly distracted and more than a little unsettled by a third, which reflected the shop around Milo, but not Milo himself. He stared at it, unable to tear himself away despite his growing unease, and when he did finally abandon the mirror he had to do so by stepping backwards and sideways, unwilling as he was to turn his back on it.

"No," he finally replied, once he'd put a little distance between himself and that last one. "I'm finding." A return introduction would have to wait until he could see who he was speaking to, maybe. Somehow that seemed important.

Ashley Fox had... clearly not been looking where she was going. She was mostly just trying to run away from Alex. Now she was wishing she had stayed with him. Because she was in a mirror shop, and mirrors were the absolute scariest thing in the universe for her. Had she gotten herself into this mess? Yeah. But did she deserve the consequence? No. And there were mirrors everywhere, so she couldn’t just turn around and leave. Instead, she closed her eyes and didn’t move. Maybe Alex would find her, and take her away without her having to look at anything. Help.

After having learned about just how many types of magical mirrors there actually were, Evan realized that the mirror store would be a good place for window shopping. He might have even learned about something he didn't know existed! And the boy lived for learning, so here he was. And having caught sight of a poster about mirrors that gave compliments? Well, he certainly found what he thought would be a good Christmas gift for his youngest sister.

Stepping into the store, he noticed someone standing right inside and he moved to skirt around them before looking. And pausing. And frowning. ".... Ash?" Literally, the last place he'd ever think to see her. Maybe she was here to face her nightmares?

"Evan?" Ash turned around in the opposite direction from where Evan actually was. Wait no... she turned again. No... she turned several more times before she was reasonably sure that she was facing in Evan's direction. She was, but she didn't dare open her eyes to check. Instead, she held out her arm, because then if Evan was standing near her she'd find him. That was what you did when you were blindfolded, no? "I may have made... a mistake. Alex will be very disappointed in me." Her voice faltered a bit. She was stuck between two options that would make her very vulnerable: open her eyes and see mirrors, or keep them closed and see nothing. Neither were ideal. Yay. This was awesome. This was fine. This was great. At least the person finding her had been Evan and not Cambridge or Upstead. Theoretically, this situation COULD be worse.

Well, if she was here to face her fears, Evan couldn't help but notice that doing so with her eyes closed was probably the least effective way to try it. Only seeing the mirrors would help her face them. But maybe she got in here and had decided against it? It was brave to even consider so he was sure no one would have faulted not being able to follow through. Except... she was talking and he was pretty sure from her words being here was actually entirely unintentional.

That seemed to him like it would make it worse.

When she reached out an arm roughly his direction, Evan stepped closer so that it would land on his arm - letting her know a friend was there and hoping that offered a little comfort at least. "Were you running away from something?" Meaning, was there a reason that they shouldn't turn around and get her out of here right now?

Ash took ahold of Evan’s(hopefully Evan’s anyway) arm and smiled guiltily. “Ummm... I was running away from one of my bodyguards. Alex. I did not quite expect to end up in here. That was definitely not part of the plan. I should not have done that. But at least I didn’t get lost in that mirror maze thing at the celebrations, right?” She turned a little bit pink. She definitely looked stupid right now, and she didn’t enjoy it at all.

“Are there any spots in here that aren’t covered in mirrors?” She opened her eyes to check... then immediately shut them again. Oh, That was a lot of mirrors. Too many mirrors. So many mirrors...

Why was she this dumb? Literally, she was terrible, all her problems were her own fault and she definitely deserved them. Yup. And she was very sure that everyone agreed with her, except Evan maybe. Evan was wrong then.

“So... how’s your summer been?” Yes, it was a weird question to ask when talking to the guy rescuing you from being surrounded by all your worst fears, but fear made people different.

“You know, if I grow up... I’ll buy one of those mirrors that tell you nice things. And I’ll use it, just to prove a point.” Another weird thing to say. But she was currently trying to not faint from fear, and she wasn’t exactly thinking about how she needed to be better at conversation. Look on the bright side, Ash. If you were a normal person, you’d look super weird right now. But because you’re already strange, you look only a little weird. Yay?

It was in fact his arm, and he was glad she'd been able to grab it and comfortable doing so. "Why were you running away from your bodyguard?" Details were good before he led her back outside. If her bodyguard knew her well, Evan imagined he wouldn't even consider this place as a good spot to check for Ash given the nature of what it sold for profit. There really was probably no where she'd be safer. But also if he could get her out of her, the sooner the probably the better. "Realistically it's probably a good spot. No one would think to look for you here. The mirror maze would have been worse. I don't have your past and it still kind of got to me." Very claustrophobic feeling.

He looked around at her question, not noticing she had taken a peek as well before giving a small sigh when he did not find a spot that would be best for her to not see one. But he did have another idea. "None. But hold on." He shrugged out of her grip, just enough to pull off his light sweatshirt and lifted her hand to put it in hers. "You can put on my sweater though. It has a hood and we can pull it down enough over your head to show you just the floor. That'll give you at least some of your senses back." Having to be completely blinded when you already felt vulnerable couldn't have been good either.

Evan definitely would not have agreed with her. Sure, her feet had brought her into this store which wasn't the greatest for her peace of mind. But it wasn't an irrational fear she had. And it wasn't something that she'd had any control over it developing. So no, her problems were not her fault and that was something he would have vehemently argued if he'd known how deeply she was blaming herself.

The question was odd, but he figured she was going for distraction. So he'd play along. "My summer has been fine. Yours? How are the new people in your house?" and for even further distraction... "I'm thinking about buying one of those for Lisa for Christmas. Though from a sibling standpoint, the insult one might be funnier." Though a terrible gift so he would not be doing that.

But he did have another idea. "None. But hold on." He shrugged out of her grip, just enough to pull off his light sweatshirt and lifted her hand to put it in hers. "You can put on my sweater though. It has a hood and we can pull it down enough over your head to show you just the floor. That'll give you at least some of your senses back." Ash turned even redder. Was it hot in here? It felt hot in here. She hated being vulnerable, even in front of her closer friends like Evan. “I- well, uhhh... I just felt like running around unsupervised so I- it was a bad decision. Sorry.” It wasn’t right for her to cause her bodyguards and her friends so much worry and suffering, and it would never be right no matter how many times she did it. She felt so terrible. She knew Alex was a really good guy and would diligently check every shop without complaining, but she could just picture how stressed her would look when he found her in a mirror shop of all places. Stressed AND helpless. It was official. Ashley Fox was a terrible person, confirmed. Was anyone surprised? No.

This was all her fault. If she hadn’t run away from Alex for no reason... if she hadn’t stood up to Upstead even for good reasons... if she had just shut up and did what she was told to do... none of this would have happened. And then nobody would be sad. And then SHE wouldn’t be sad. And all these mirrors wouldn’t be laughing at her.

WAIT WAIT WAIT. Evan let go of her!!! No no no no no. She was being abandoned... oh wait nevermind. He was just handing her his sweater. Ok. She breathed a sigh of relief and put the sweater on. “Evan you’re a genius! They didn’t put mirrors on the floor...” How come she hadn’t thought of that? “Thank you.” As if a simple thank you could fix wasting his time and freaking out Alex. A girl could hope. She pulled up the hood and opened her eyes. The bad news was that she looked stupid, reckless, and vulnerable. The good news was that nobody could see her cry or look embarrassed because she was staring at the ground. That was something, right?

She wiped her eyes on Evan’s sweater. That was what sleeves were for!!! Sorry... “Um... I can’t hate Charlie because he’s a baby and he hasn’t done anything wrong. He’s kinda cute. Megan Olivia... she’s actually really nice and I hate that. I want her to be mean and awful but she’s really nice. She doesn’t understand me at all and she does lots of dumb things like installing mirrors in our house and burning scented candles at dinner. I can’t believe she burns scented candles at dinner. It reminds me of Healer Poppy, but it’s also disgusting and messes with the flavor of food. But she’s really nice.” And Ash felt guilty for hating her. More guilt. At this rate, Ash was going to feel as guilty as Kinsay James. Yikes.

“If you got a mirror to insult Lisa, I bet it would say nice things instead. Even mirrors can’t be mean to Lisa, ‘cause she’s too adorable.” Ash giggled. It was true. Lisa was sweet and amazing, end of story. She wasn’t perfect, but she was pretty close. And Ash would fight a mirror if it dared to insult Lisa. Or Evan. She would probably fight a mirror anyway, but that was besides the point. The point was that all of the Nams were amazing. Ash didn’t quite feel like she deserved them, but she wasn’t complaining.

SPOILER!!: the Milo to our Otis

She had learned one more thing during this exchange, and that was that there were no manners in this spirit's afterlife. The polite thing to do when someone introduced themselves was to return the gesture. Her lips tightening and pursing, looking almost as though she had sucked on a particularly sour lemon, Mitsuki took a few less light steps down a different aisle and caught a glimpse of something dark move and jump from one mirror to another. Almost more curious than the haunting in the mirrors was the way some mirrors were reflecting back something other than a reflection, as though the mirrors were broken.

Stopping in front of one of these mirrors, she peered in close enough to fog the glass with her breath...but her own face did not reflect back and instead she continued to look at some random bit of floor elsewhere in the shop. Or so she assumed, the wood was the same and there were other mirrors in the background. In fact, several of the birds she could see had birds on them (which caused her face to unsour a bit) but the detailing was too small that no matter how close she pressed her face to the mirror and strained her eyes, it was simply impossible to make out.

Remembering her new ghostly companion then, and unaware that the shopkeeper was practically eating popcorn watching her curious exchange, the 10-year-old spoke again to the voice. "What do you mean, finding? And what may I call you?" she called back, her face still pressed up to the 'broken' mirror in front of her.

She would probably fight a mirror anyway, but that was besides the point. The point was that all of the Nams were amazing. Ash didn’t quite feel like she deserved them, but she wasn’t complaining.

He noticed the blush, and he ignored it. There were only two people Evan could stomach being vulnerable around, and that was Noah and Chase. And even then, it was a hard thing to do so he could entirely empathize with how she was feeling. And the absolute last thing he wanted to do was to make her feel worse at all. But he wondered if even finding her had, given she was apologizing which entirely took him aback. "Don't say that. You don't owe me any type of apology. Sometimes you need to be alone and have even the smallest semblance of being a normal kid. I get it. You should be allowed to roam alone when you want." Even if Ash could make questionable decisions, how was she going to learn from her own mistakes if other people were trying to stop her from making them?

The fact his idea had worked and seemed to help her a little bit, did make a small smile stretch on his face and he offered her his arm again if she wanted it and needed it for comfort, even if she could at least see the ground for now. "I'm not a Ravenclaw for nothing." Though in reality, he was quite certain it was his thirst for knowledge rather than actual intellect that had put him in blue. "You're welcome. Do you want me to escort you out of here?" It might mean finding her body guard right away, but maybe not.

He didn't think anything of her wiping her face on his sleeve. Clothes were easily washable, besides tears on clothes never hurt anyone. "Innocence is usually a pretty good reason to give someone grace." And maybe having a baby around like that could help too? "It can still be hard to share your family and your space though, even with someone you like." So he wouldn't have judged her even if she didn't like the baby. "does she... is she a muggle and does she not know about magic or what you've been through?" If she knew, forcing Ash to deal with mirrors was unforgivable. Though really, he supposed even if she didn't know she still should have respected the girl's wishes. "What if you had an allergy to those too? Scents can give people terrible headaches." Which maybe she could say was happening and the woman would give it up? "It's good that she's nice. You shouldn't feel guilty about not being ready to accept her though. The truth of that matter is... you've had trauma. And trauma is hard to work through, and there's no timeline on it and additional changes can be really hard to accept when you're still fighting to find some peace and normalcy in your own life."

... He was glad his hood was up and that she could only see the floor, because he could feel his own eyes stinging and probably looked red. There was a moment when he wasn't sure if he'd said that for Ash, or for his own sake. Maybe it was for both of them.

Her next words were welcome distraction, and Evan actually found himself giving a small laugh. "You actually might be right. I'm sure it's insults would be really weak if it could come up with any."

Their dialogue did sound like something straight out of a play, did they know? Probably not - these kids were dead serious.

Tab scribbled down some ideas about the custom orders, looking up every now and then to check if Dawn Mitsuki and the finding boy needed any help.

Instead, she held out her arm, because then if Evan was standing near her she'd find him. That was what you did when you were blindfolded, no? "I may have made... a mistake. Alex will be very disappointed in me." Her voice faltered a bit. She was stuck between two options that would make her very vulnerable: open her eyes and see mirrors, or keep them closed and see nothing. Neither were ideal. Yay. This was awesome. This was fine. This was great. At least the person finding her had been Evan and not Cambridge or Upstead. Theoretically, this situation COULD be worse.

Yay?

Now, these ones ... they looked like they could use the shopkeeper's help!

Upon walking out of the Catoptromancy room to see two teenagers crying - well, what she saw was a boy with reddish eyes and a hooded figure wiping their eyes on their sleeve - Tab had to admit that she was confused, but approached the pair gently with a kind smile.

"You kids okay? Need a calming draught?"

Scents can give people terrible headaches." Ash held onto Evan’s arm again. Yes, she was able to see. No, she wasn’t going to pass out. No, she didn’t strictly NEED help anymore. But she WANTED it, and it made her feel better, and help was being offered, so... she’d be holding his arm for now. Thanks. “Yes please.” Again, she didn’t NEED to be escorted out. But it would make her feel better, and besides... Evan would need his sweater back, no? And she couldn’t give it back if she walked out without him. That was her excuse to not feel even more bad about interrupting his day. Because despite popular belief, Ash didn’t like to be sad.

“Megan Olivia is a muggle. I think nobody tells her stuff until it becomes a problem. So I guess she knows about mirrors now. I shouldn’t HAVE to tell her though. I should be able to just say that I can’t have mirrors and not have to explain it.” Or maybe Megan Olivia just hadn’t been in this situation, and Ash needed to give her some time. Maybe she was a horrible and irrational person. “She tries. She’s a good person, I guess.” But Ash still didn’t like her at all. Always trying to get on her good side, always trying to parent her, no matter how much she screamed and cried. It was thoroughly confusing. What kind of authority figures were NICE and CARING?

Oh... was she making Evan cry? Nooo. He was so kind and sweet and smart and caring... she hated to see him cry. “I didn’t mean... I- sorry.” She was ruining everyone’s day. Like that lady in that movie who represented Sadness. Nobody wanted to be around that lady. Because she was depressing.

“I bet the mirror would be like ‘you’re so NICE and CARING. I HATE you.” She laughed. Was that a good approximation?

Ash whirled around. No wrong direction... she turned again... and again until she could see the feet of the person talking to her. “I’m fine.” Ash was a pretty good liar, but some lies were just impossible to pull off. Like saying you were okay when you were very obviously crying into someone else’s sweater. She sniffled and wiped her face again without looking up. “But... do you really have any calming draughts?” Asking for a friend, of course.

Did he need a mirror? No. But if he wanted one, his baba would buy it for him - that wasn't something Jasper ever worried about. He hadn't come into the shop to buy anything though. He was only looking because as he walked by the store window he saw a GIANT bird in one of the mirrors and he had to check it out. It was MASSIVE. It was, like, the size of a DINOSAUR from the prehistoric times or something!!! And if it really was a dinosaur, then Jasper HAD to see it up close so that he could tell Maggie all about it later.

And because Jasper usually had a phenomenal sense of direction (especially in the air), he weaved his way in and out of the aisles following gut instinct alone. Which, of course, meant that he stopped the moment he walked past one of those talking mirrors. "Thanks! They help me run fast." He was talking about his shoes, of course - the ones the mirror had just complimented.

Slowing to a stop again, Milo stood in place and stared vaguely around, eyes skipping from one mirror to the next.

One thing he could be sure of: this wasn't impossible. An impossible thing couldn't happen because that would automatically make it possible, and impossible was for closed minds in any case. Milo turned the issue over in his head, soon arriving at the conclusion that finding the owner of the voice was difficult only because they both seemed to be moving around. Even in such a small shop, they could hypothetically keep this up forever and never find the other. But technically it still wouldn't be an impossibility, even then. Possible things didn't happen all the time.

So Milo stayed stood where he was, and waited and watched instead, head tilted and fingers flexing smoothly at his sides. This method bore fruit very quickly, and he soon saw his quarry back in the direction of the unsettling mirror-that-wasn't. Regardless, he backtracked and walked up behind her, not entirely meaning to sneak but doing so anyway, socked feet all but soundless on the shop floor.

Stopping a little way behind her, Milo waited until the girl called out - giving him confirmation that this was indeed Mitsuki, and not another shop-wanderer - before replying at normal volume. "Finding you." He still didn't say his name. Introducing himself to the back of someone's head seemed almost as ill-advised as introducing himself to a disembodied voice.

He would have understood just needing the comfort. And honestly, that was why it was offered. He was sure she could at least see enough now to not get herself lost or break anything, but just knowing someone was there, who she hopefully felt was safe, might help with the overall awfulness of the rest of the situation. "Okay. Then let's go." He wasn't worried about the sweater, he would get it back when he was able to get it back, but he was did want to at least see her safely out of the shop. For his own piece of mind more than anything. He did care, even if people might not always know.

"So she does know then that you're a witch?" That probably made things at least a little less confusing. Though Ash was right, she shouldn't have HAD to explain why mirrors were a problem. The adult should have just been able to respect it was an issue and leave her alone. "Trying and being a good person is a good start but... I don't think it means you have to accept her any time soon. If she's around to stay... you'll eventually find some type of common ground," He assumed, "but I don't think you have to rush it or feel guilty about just... not liking her or the situation." Maybe someone would think she was irrational. But they were kids, it came with the territory and it was unfair for people to expect everything would just be fine right away.

And she had noticed. Which made him 10000000x more embarrassed than the fact he'd even managed to get emotional at all out in public. And she was apologizing for it. He blinked rapidly a couple of times and shook his head at her apology. "It's not your fault. I just.. I got to thinking about something else." A related situation, but personal. "Don't worry about it. I'm fine."

Or he would be.

Hearing the Shopkeeper, Evan really wasn't all that surprised that she had ventured over given the rather pathetic pairing they both currently looked like. He was embarrassed beyond belief now and just would have loved to sink into the floor for forever. But that was not an option. He also tried to not have any type of emotional response to being offered a calming draught, considering this woman probably had no idea they'd all been unknowingly dosed with it for the past year and he felt a bit ick about it. So he tried to settle for a weak smile, and shook his head at the offer. "No thank you." At least for himself. "I'm sorry if we're being a disruption."

Two very upset teenagers in the middle of a store could certainly have that effect.

Thankfully Ash's next words were able to make him give a small laugh, which broke a little more of the tension he was feeling. "Sounds pretty fair. Maybe it would start trying to attack her clothes? Though I'm not sure she actually cares about that..." Minus her pink shoes, maybe.

Ash walked very very slowly towards the door. One, two. One, two. One... "I mean, I guess she found out when I got back. Before, she just assumed that I was at a fancy boarding school. But then we couldn't hide it, so..." She shrugged. "My family is notorious for hiding things though." I mean, they were very high-profile, and with at least one magical kid. They needed to hide things. Even so, Ash was pretty sure that her father kept some secrets for fun. He seemed to be very good at it... Ash stopped in her tracks and looked up. Bad decision. She looked back down again. "I bet my father is a squib. Or related to one." It would make sense. At least one magical child, but not a wizard? Wasn't surprised to see that, mostly just upset? Good at keeping secrets? Never talking about his family? It really did make sense. She'd have to look into that.

"I guess she'll figure it out at some point. That she can't make me her daughter until I let her. And I guess I'll figure out living with her. At some point."

She looked at Evan as bravely she could, trying and failing to not look in the mirrors. She could only manage it for a few seconds, long enough to make eye contact but not long enough to hold onto it. "Oh." She was still very sorry. He might not be sad about the same things, but if she hadn't been talking about her own problems, he wouldn't have thought of his. It was no use mentioning it though. Evan would just be sadder if she apologized more. She could keep her guilt to herself. Because then he would be happy and that was what she wanted.

Ash understood why Evan wouldn't want a calming draught. Personally, she didn't mind taking them occasionally... as long as she knew she was taking one. So she very much hoped that the shopkeeper really had a calming draught and wasn't just asking to be polite. "I'm sorry for walking into your mirror store on accident." Not that this situation would be any better if she came in here on purpose(let's be real).

She sniffled and let out a quick laugh. "I like her shoes. Lisa is adorable." Liquid sunshine pretending to be a person. Which was the opposite of Ash. Ash was more like pessimism in human form. She didn't know how they became friends, but she wasn't gonna question it. Not out loud, anyway.

Serena wasn't supposed to be here.

Her mum was going to be soooooooo upset when she finds out Serena left on 'business' with her dad when she wasn't supposed to. Her dad had been on his way out with a portkey and Serena stuck to him seconds before disappearing. At the moment it looked like an exhilarating thing to do. When they arrived her dad scolded her (not too harshly) and gave her all of the statistics of possible failure and chances of injury. Serena considered this her lucky day because she made it without a scratch on herself. Mostly due to her dad's quick actions, but still. Numbers don't lie.

They had arrived outside of Knockturn Alley and her dad summoned her bodyguards. She wasn't allowed to go in with him, nor was she allowed to wander on her own. As always. So, she wandered off with her two goons while her dad tended to whatever business he had.

This wasn't as fun as she had expected and she ended up at a random shop. Stefan and Flavios, the bodyguards, stood a few yards away as she examined the mirrors and...

Ohhhhhhhhhhh.

Was that.....?

Hmph. Mister Smiles.

Serena placed a finger over her lips, signaling her bodyguards to remain quiet. They simply squinted at her, more concerned with what she had planned than someone getting to her. That would be nearly impossible with those two around.

"I run faster," she said in her best deep voice, hidden behind a floor length mirror behind Jasper.

Hmmm okay then. "Yes, I do have some for emergency use." And since they were both apologising, "It's not a problem. I'm sorry that my store caused you distress. Do let me know if you need anything." Tab patted them on the shoulder kindly and headed back to the counter. She would continue to keep an eye on them while helping other customers. If they seemed upset again, perhaps she could offer them a swiss roll instead. Dessert always made things better for her.

A child walking that fast was most probably not looking to buy anything, so Tab simply greeted him with a nod and left him to check out the shop while she cleaned the mirrors on display. Not long afterwards, the shopkeeper nodded in greeting again, this time to a trio who walked into the store, before she resumed her cleaning. "No running in the store," she warned in a sing-song voice to the boy and the girl who mysteriously transformed into a full-length mirror when she heard what they said.

He was fine with allowing Ash to set the pace in which she wanted to exit, so as she began to take slow steps towards the exit, he matched his own stride to hers. Slow, steady steps. One, Two. "Why couldn't you hide it?" Not that he thought it was a good idea to hide it, having not known about Noah for five whole years he knew he was a wizard. He was merely curious about the circumstances in which made it that they had to tell her about Ash's magical abilities. He... had never really considered that, that there was probably magic somewhere in the blond line even if his parents had not been. He paused next to her, contemplating that for his own family. "Is that how it works? I wonder if someone in above generations was also magic somewhere in my family..." It would make sense. All four children magic, and his cousins were mixed in magical abilities or not.

Was there an easy way to trace the magic? He'd have to add that to his research list.

"Just let it happen when is good for you. She can deal with it if it takes you some time. No one should force you to accept something you aren't ready to." If only someone had told that to his Dad as well.

He understood the sacrifice she'd made by trying to look up, and red eyes or not he did his best to offer her a small smile in appreciation at the attempt. He was fine. Ignore him and his emotions. He liked to try to pretend he didn't have those anyways most of the time. He wasn't crazy about the fact Ash had seen any of his, but also he was sure she wasn't crazy about him having seen her vulnerable. So really, it kind of balanced out by his logic. "Yeah."

Lisa was really cute. Evan was obviously fond of his sister, both of them really. He wished Maya had made as many friends as the youngest Nam, but then again he hadn't either and she probably thought the same. "She's very full of life." And he meant that in a good way.

The Shopkeeper seemed really nice, so the Ravenclaw forced another smile as she offered her own apology about the store being upsetting. Wasn't her fault in the slightest, but he appreciated an adult trying to be understanding so he was prone to like her based off of that. "Thank you, we will."
