Default Janus Galloglass

For all your magical mirror needs, Janus Galloglass is the place to be. Sure, you could go to some other knick knack store that doesn't specialize in mirrors, but if you want quality, if you want customization, if you want pure craftsmanship, then you're in the right place. When you walk inside you'll have a hard time not seeing your own reflection somewhere on the walls and displays, and yet equally, not every mirror shows you yourself as you might expect. Some show reflections of completely different places and faces, some show you what you would look like as a different gender or age, some show you how others see you, and some appear not to reflect anything at all. Many of the mirrors call out compliments or advice as you walk close to them. Some seem to watch you as you make your way around the store.

Janus Galloglass deals in three main areas when it comes to mirror making: mirrors for communication, mirrors for vanity and appearance, and mirrors for divination, though there are other types of mirrors available for other needs - just ask. Fancy a foeglass? Need a talking mirror to tell you how fabulous you are? Want a hand mirror charmed to never fog up? Do you need a mirror that will zoom? Maybe you need mirror parts for your telescope, or a mirror charmed to show you the back of your head. Perhaps you're in the market for a prank mirror of some variety. Whatever you need, if it isn't already on the shelves, you can get a quote here, just be aware that some more complex custom requests might take a little time to craft.

You mustn't forget, of course, that Janus Galloglass also provides a Psychomanteum that its valued patrons can make use of, for a price of course. Your Catoptromancy session can be guided too if you need a little help with interpretation, or you may pay to use the Psychomanteum by yourself for a 15, 35, or 55 minute session. Please note there are multitudes of security spells in this store. It isn't wise to try and steal when so many of the mirrors are watching you, not to mention, if you break you DEFINITELY buy, or you might just get sucked into a holding mirror until an auror can be summoned to deal with you.

Elias supposed that it was more productive to talk to another person instead of a mirror, even if that person was reminding him that he had some actual shopping to do. Even though his shopping list was a piece of paper, it suddenly seemed to weigh much more than the bag of galleons on his belt.

"I'm Elias." It felt oddly rebellious to say it while keeping his hands in his pockets; if his father were here, he would certainly be disappointed in his son for not offering up a hand to shake. "And no. I'm here by myself."

Magdalas was rather shocked by this and for a moment, couldn't quite understand what he was hearing. The fact was that although he'd seen quite a few students milling about on their own, he'd just assumed their parents were monitoring them from a distance, as ones parents were obliged. How else could they be certain their child wouldn't be whisked away by some weirdo or convinced to part with their money by an over-zealous sales representative? Who else was there to remind the children what to buy and how to buy it? Maybe the boy was older than he appeared.

"Well, I'm only 11, so..." he gave a shy smile. "I wish I could just go where I want. I'd probably already have my wand by now. Wat'cha looking for in here, anyway?"

"So am I." It was only the lingering baby fat on Elias' face that saved his expression from being utterly judgmental: it came off as something of a confused frown instead, "I'm looking at mirrors. They're magic."

Duh.

"Wait - you're 11 and you're just walking around alone? Geez. That's dangerous." It was also really cool, but that wasn't the point. Diagon Alley was filled with all sorts of nefarious people and he didn't want his new friend Elias to get embroiled in any of their dark plots. Also, he was incredibly bored shopped for houseware items.

"Why don't you come with me and my pa for awhile? I haven't gotten lots of things yet, so we can go together. I got my list just here-" So saying, he retrieved the crumpled note from his robes. "-and you can see, there's a lot of empty boxes and very few X's. Ugh... too few."

It was true. So far, they'd only managed to stay on track long enough to procure some stationary, as well as some snacks for the train ride to Hogwarts (which father and son both promptly dug into the moment they'd left the shop).

"Is it?" Elias hadn't really thought about danger. He just assumed that in a giant, magical shopping district, there would be a million and twelve spells or whatever to let the wizard police know if someone were up to something dangerous. Was that not the case?

Despite the mirror's cajoling attempts to get him to look back its way, he decided he'd rather spend time with another person and turned his back on it. He pulled his own shopping list -- a neatly-folded piece of yellow paper, legal-sized and marked with light blue lines -- from his pocket. He compared the two pieces of paper before remarking, "Is that real parchment?"

"Yeah. Guess 'cuz of the squibs in my family, mum likes everything to be super traditional and wizard-y. Says our magic is naturally weak so we have to try harder than other people. I guess she thinks we can absorb the magic through the objects, or something like that which... sounds weird, saying it out loud." He'd never really thought too much about his mother's preoccupation with appearing as pureblood as possible, save that it gave her a penchant for making the house look like an interactive museum of oddities and dated furniture. "Actually, she'd probably have kittens that I told you about any of that. So, uh, nevermind."

"Mags! This one or- hey, kid?" The sound of his father from further in front of the store drifted down to the two boys and Magdalas could sense the slightest hitch of panic within his voice.

"Here!" Magdalas peeked his head around a shelf and gave his father a wave. One would think with all the mirrors about, it'd be easy enough to spot him from some angle or other. Nontheless, Mr. Maunder was evidentally relieved at hearing him not 10 feet away and quickly marched over.

"Whew! Ok, so which of these would your mother like? The snakes are nice, but she also likes owls and-"

"The owl one." Magdalus didn't typically enjoy interrupting his father, but the man was so easily taken by his own whims, it could be hard to bring him back once he was too far along the path. "Pa, can my friend Elias come with us shopping?"

"Elias?" The tall man peered down at the second boy, then his son, then the boy again with a look of surprise. "I suppose... His parents are?"
"Letting him shop alone."

Mr. Maunders let out an almost effete gasp, which hardly matched the rugged nature of his heavily bearded face. "How very... mature."

Magdalus nodded, feeling a bit of pride at having the opportunity to show his father how quickly he could get along with others. More to the point, with another kid for which to be responsible, surely his father would stop making so many side-stops and simply let them finish the wishlist. He turned to the other boy. "You're fine with it, right Elias?"

While Magdalus and his father talked about something for the missus, Elias mulled over what his new acquaintance had said. Squib... squib... why did that sound familiar? He didn't quite understand why Magdalus' mum wouldn't like it, but decided to leave it alone.

He did like the idea of getting more magical by having magical stuff, though. The slighted mirror somehow picked up on this, and gave a little sparkle at him that seemed almost like a persuasive wiggle of the eyebrows.

Well, and his parents had said that Hogwarts allowed its students to have a pet, right? Surely this would count, especially if he named it?

He looked up at Magdalus' father at the mention of his name, and when the big man gasped Elias couldn't help but think that if the man had a string of pearls around his neck he would have clutched them. Elias' grandmother was in the habit of doing that.

"Yes, I'd like to come with you. I'm buying this mirror first.

"Alright! More the merrier. Nice to meet you, Elias. I'm Magnus Maunder. I'd shake but-" He looked pointedly between the two large mirrors in his arms which, in hindsight, were probably not intended to be carried around the shop so haphazardly. Thankfully, the man had enough strength and spatial awareness to keep both aloft and intact. "Since we both got our stuff, let's head to the checkout. Maybe we can grab a butterbeer after, eh?"

"Or!" Magdelas quickly interjected. "Or we can go get our school robes?"

"Oh. Yeah, that's probably a good idea." It was easy to see Mr. Maunders wasn't nearly as invested in this proposal, given that he'd gone through the whole process of uniform shopping himself many times during his school days, but he also had the good grace to concede that the day was, in fact, his son's. While this fact had always been in the back of his mind, it did take a few good prods to bring it to the forefront again. For instance, when he caught sight of his son's list.

"Criminy, is that all we've done? Thought the bags were a little light..." Hanging one of the mirrors haphazardly on the nearest wall (effectively muffling another mid-pitch), he grabbed the list and gave it a thorough once over. "Hmm. We really need to stop getting so distracted."

Magdelas was just happy to get things back on track.

Elias did like the sound of a butterbeer, especially since he had no idea what it was, but he supposed that Magdelas had a point about shopping for their school things. That was what his parents had entrusted him to do, after all.

He turned to pick up the gleaming mirror, which wasn't handheld size but was a great deal smaller than the ones Mr. Maunder held, and made his way to the counter. He noticed the shopkeeper eyeing the mirror Mr. Maunder had replaced on the wall, and imagined that the shopkeep would go over and rearrange it the instant they were out the door.

As the shopkeeper wrapped up his mirror, Elias asked, "Aren't you going to bubble wrap it? I don't want it to break..."

The shopkeeper gave him an appraising look for a moment, but then realized Elias' obvious Not From Around These Parts vibe and explained, "This cloth I'm wrapping it in has a shatterproof charm on it. It'll get to where you want it to go safe and sound."

Elias beamed. That was the kind of practical magic he could get behind!

"Thanks!" After he'd paid and slipped the mirror into his satchel, he turned and followed Magdelas and his father out of the shop.

Clad in dark leather adorned with sterling silver buckles and buttons, Lucien ran his calloused fingers through his slicked back untidy hair as he stepped inside the establishment. Delegating tasks to the others had been easy, essential, but this was something he would permit no other to handle. He expected to have his selections done by the time Esmee joined him so she could make some of their purchases.

Thick heeled boots dragging across the floor, Lucien moved well passed the mirrors intended for scurrying and communication, pausing in front of one of the vanity displays and pursed his lips while scrutinizing them.

Too dainty. Too gaudy. Too heavy...

He required a very specific set of parameters and the less magical modification required in prepping the mirrors for their true purpose the better. Too much magic would muddy the technique.

His fingers twisted around the hair on his chin as he let out a bit of an aggravated sigh and tugged. Perhaps another display would provide better options. These were dismal.

After pulling the door closed behind her, Esmee tucked her gloved hands into the pockets of her trench coat. The collar was lifted around her chin, making it less obvious when she turned her head from one side to the other to check her surroundings. She debated walking and browsing the mirror collection in the store herself instead of joining with Lucien, but quickly decided against it. The less time they spent here, the better.

It wasn’t difficult to find the head of hair that she looked for many a time in their activities and she soon found herself looking over the same collection of mirrors as he was. Whilst she knew the requirements, she also knew immediately that none of these were it. Still, she said nothing. The decisions were his to make.

She had other priorities.

He felt the shift in the air the moment the door to the shop was pulled open and while his connection with Esmee paled in comparison to the one he shared with Alphonsine, he knew she had finally arrived. He waited patiently for her to join him and, as her familiar form flanked his left side, he permitted himself one intimate gesture and traced his hand along her (from shoulder blade to shoulder blade) as he moved behind her to pursue other options.

For the first time that day, Lucien found himself slightly less disappointed and selected one small hand held mirror from the display. One down and four more to go. Though this one he handed to her, it was her style. "No trouble, I trust?"

The gesture didn't go unnoticed and Esmee spared Lucien a look over the shoulder his hand had last had contact with, her chin pressing into the fabric of her popped collar, and smiled. Briefly. Barely noticeable to anyone that was unfamiliar with her. In other words, the gesture would only be noticed by the handful of people she knew and endeavoured to let know her. The small moments were enough. They had bigger ideas, bigger plans and everything on their itinerary was more important than intimate gestures.

Taking the mirror, Esmee turned it over and inspected the details. She picked up the things that he didn't and he appreciated the things that she didn't. But he also knew her well, and she nodded her approval. "Is there ever reason for trouble?"

To say Anastasia Bunbury Truebridge was vain was as if saying it snowed in winter, or London was often foggy, or the Earth was round. Naturally she had to stop into the mirror store each time she was in Diagon Alley. She didn't even bother learning its name, but she did so enjoy perusing the shop and every time she came in, she found a new mirror to add to her collection.

Today she was looking for one to hang in Davie's room in the hopes of spying on him when he was home and she was just out and about, having a casual shopping day. She hadn't found much she liked and was feeling picky today, so she took her time wandering around the shop and touching as many mirrors as she felt like.

Eww, there were other people in the store today? Bunz wrinkled her nose in their general direction. What weirdos. Who wore that much leather in the spring???

Eww, there were other people in the store today? Bunz wrinkled her nose in their general direction. What weirdos. Who wore that much leather in the spring???

The door to the shop opened, and a light click-clacking of heels announced the subtle arrival of Charlotte Bellchant. The thirty-two year old only glanced around long enough to one, discreetly check her surroundings, and two, seek out what she was here for. Just to the right, her own reflection looked back at her, and she adjusted a small curl of her hair before moving on. She ignored the mirror that supposedly showed what she would look like forty-something years from now and approached a completely different selection of mirrors.

Pretty soon, a shopkeeper came around and offered some assistance, and without changing her gaze from the mirrors to the shopkeeper, Charlotte answered. "I'm looking for a security mirror and...a foe glass," she said, pausing in her sentence as she paused in her thoughts. She didn't offer why she needed either mirror, because little things like the why and when weren't exactly important, were they? The shopkeeper began rattling on about the small selection of offers, but Charlotte had already made up her mind. "Thank you," she said, and then she edged away a little as if to scurry the shopkeeper on somewhere else.

Anastasia was not, definitely not eavesdropping on the other patrons in the store. But she did take note when one edged into her space, bringing the shopkeeper with her.

Annie hesitantly lifted her hand off the mirror she had been inspecting, resting it instead on the shoulder strap of her bag. "No, I don't need any help," she replied to the shopkeep curtly. Why did the woman have to bring him into her space? Annie huffed at the both of them and moved further into the back of the shop, closer to the oddballs in trench coats and whatnot. Of course, here were foe glasses back here, interestingly enough.

At the sound of someone's else's voice, Charlotte's gaze flickered away from the mirrors. Honestly? The first thing she noticed was the woman's handbag, never mind what she'd said. Whatever it had been. Anyway, back to the handbag. Small, but perfect for a little outing at Diagon Alley. She might have said as much, but at the woman's huff, Charlotte nonchalantly went back to her mirror shopping.

She picked out the perfect security mirror and sent it off with the shopkeeper as she ventured to the back of the store. She tried to keep her gaze straight ahead, but she couldn't help but catch sight of the entourage of people bundled up in trench coats like it was negative forty out. That was no fashion mistake. They were clearly up to something, but as long as they waited until Charlotte left with her mirrors, she could care less what happened after that.

As Charlotte drew her attention back to the foe glasses, she happened to notice that the same woman she encountered in the front of the store was now here in the back of the store. She normally wouldn't pay that fact any extra attention at all, expect when Charlotte made her next move, her handbag happened to bump into the other lady's handbag. "Oh, excuse me," she said. "I was actually just thinking how much I love that bag of yours." And now look, here she'd gone and bumped into it.

Every nuance was his and his stare reminded her of this as he allowed it to linger a few moments longer before being interrupted by the sound and shift in the air as the door opened and closed once more. Thankfully, he and Esmee were nearly through here.

He could not endure idle chit chat of foe glass and handbags.

His lips curled handsomely into a smirk at her words as his eyes were drawn to another option. One that spoke to his sister's preferences, bearing an engraving of her beloved ermine on the back, and thus was pulled from the shelf. "Only on the eve of the Augurey's call," he mused in response. His eyes seemed to darken as he found another, one befitting of his status, and greedily removed it from the shelf. "For the greater good," he concluded with a tip of his head towards her before making his way to the counter to pay. He could trust her to collect the remaining pieces.

Annie had found a nice handheld mirror, not one for her son but one for herself, and was debating whether it was worth the price tag on it. Not that it mattered, but part of the joy of shopping was the haggling of it all, and she was strongly considering nudging the shopkeeper to reduce the price of this one.

Meanwhile, the other woman in the shop (not counting the freaks in trenchcoats) had approached and, in fact, complimented her. Annie looked down at her own handbag and then up at the woman. Well. At least she knew how to dress for this weather. "Thank you," she replied, then eyed her suspiciously in case the woman was considering robbing her handbag?! She didn't LOOK like a thief; no, the other shoppers were more likely to be petty thieves than this woman. She supposed she was alright to speak to. Why not. No one else was around.

Annie didn't really prefer the brand of the other woman's handbag, but she could pass on a compliment toward her shoes. "Nice heels," she said simply, flicking her eyes toward the woman and then back to the mirrors. "Louboutin?"

Charlotte spared a small smile for the other woman. "You're welcome," she said, and she kind of thought to leave the conversation at that. I mean, did she really know this woman, and how weird was it to just strike up conversation with a complete stranger in the middle of mirror shopping? Then again, nothing could get any stranger than the other patrons in the shop, the ones in the trenchcoats looking like they were planning on robbing the place.

So it was for that reason Charlotte continued in conversation and paid the weirdness no extra mind. Charlotte twisted her foot to the side to sort of glance at whatever heels she had on today. Honestly, she'd forgotten. Ahh, yeah...those. The ones that other woman remarkably knew the brand of. "You're really good with heels, I see." Charlotte wasn't that good with heels. She knew how to pair them with a nice outfit or two, but no way could she have ever guessed a brand name just by looking.

She passed a sideways glance at the robbers and instinctively felt for her wand. She wasn't exactly dressed for battle, but if that's what this came to, then so be it. "I should get going," she said, although she was stalling so as not to be up at the register when the place got robbed.
She had already chosen the other mirror she was looking for anyway, so all that was left to do was collect the two of them and pay. "Have a good day."

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Emmerson had already been in this shop, last year actually. It had seemed bigger then and more impressive. Come to think of it, everything in Diagon Alley looked more impressive last year. Now it was more or less a new playground of sorts while she got a much needed break from school and she'd been allowed just enough free rein to become properly acquainted.

Today she was on a special mission for the perfect mirror. No such thing? Tell that to the people who left their houses ugly because the mirror didn't tell them. She would never be one of those.

Ever.

Emm walked about in no particular rush. Had to take her time, you know? Find the one that spoke to her...without...y'know...speaking necessarily.

Phoebe knew there was nooo way she could afford the two way mirrors, but it was an ongoing game that she played where she showed up in the shop and made herself crazy over the price tag. And then left in a tantrum and bought herself ice cream. Someday she'd either have money or the mirrors would go on massive sale.

Today, though, there was an Emmerson in the glass shop, which seemed like the worst idea ever. Even worse than showing up and shopping for something she couldn't afford. "Hello, tiny evil child. What are you up to?"

"Phhhoooeeeebbbeeeee!" Emmerson whirled around with a bit of a flourish, thrilled by the voice that interrupted her shopping--was it still interrupting if you were happy about it? Probably not. "You're just in time. I wanted to get a big fancy mirror to put in the dorm so me and Kizzy can get dressed together and see how we look side by side." It was the only real way to go when you wanted to wear matching outfits.

"Come on! I'll show you." Without waiting for any sort of permission, Emm grabbed her friend by the hand and began yanking her through the store.

"There's this one here, but it's taller than it needs to be and not nearly wide enough for us to be anything but attached at the hip--is there a spell for that, by the way? I wouldn't try it. Maybe. But it could be fun for a day, I bet."

Oh.

Green eyes turned to the fellow Gryffindor. "What're you looking for here?"

How did Emm think she could afford one of these mirrors? Had she sold a kidney? Or Kizzy's kidney? Or Kizzy... whole? Yikes.

"I like this one, actually, and if you know what you like and don't like, you could probably custom order one. They'll just zip zap magic the mirror into any size or shape." Phoebe posed a few times in the mirror, and gladly accepted the compliments offered. What a very polite mirror... probably cost two kidneys.

"I'm looking at the two way mirrors, but they're not in my budget today. You... have money for this big fancy mirror that you want for your dorm?"

A Poop * k8 *

Scottie was glad for the break from work for a bit, but his mind didn't have much of a break. He had spent a lot of his vacation time plotting, planning, and.........honestly, observing. Going to places he knew colleagues frequented, keeping his ears peeled for anything of interest he could go to Goldwasser with if need be. Anything safe to go to his boss with. He had also wracked his brains and done RESEARCH to help him possibly figure out what this... Genealogical Squad?? Thing??? That Goldwasser had prepped him for would consist of.

He knew it wouldn't be good. He had no clue what it be about exactly, but it had to do with people's genetics, obviously. And with his assumptions about Goldy all but confirmed, he wondered if it had anything to do with humans....vs....VAMPIRES? Like...what even? His brain wasn't connecting all the dots yet.

Regardless, he needed a trip to this glass store. The items on his list? Foe-glass, a security mirror, and an enchanted mirror. Yes, he was ready to lay down all the gold for it. And he hadn't exactly told Logan, either. He might even buy multiple foe-glasses and enchanted mirrors.

So, here he was. He walked into the very quiet and possibly deserted shop with his hands in his pockets on this brisk, brisk day. His bright red scarf kept his neck and ears warm for now. He was all business.
