Default Espresso Patronum

Located on the South side of Diagon Alley in London, past a number of other shops you notice a quaint building. It is a café in this fairly busy part of section. What makes this different from the other shops? Their logo for one, resembling a wispy stag that moves every now and then in the window, illuminating from a quite distance in the evenings. One can't help but chance a glance as they pass by.

Approaching the café you get a large sense of security as a warm haze falls over you upon entry. There were tables outside the place, where diners could have their meals and chat among themselves as well as indoors. Heading on the inside you are greeted with the sight of many Patronuses floating throughout the walls behind the other stag logos of the café. The flooring a pleasant velvet red, further emphasizing the pleasant warmth one would experience whether for a quick stop or a romantic scenery.

Floating around you see the wispy forms moving around the walls featuring creatures such as phoenixes, zebras, otters, horses and many other magical creatures. Perhaps your own will join the walls if you stay long enough? The tables are compact and decorated with candles that automatically light up keeping the darkness at bay. Along with additional small booths near the back for more privacy. The Menu illuminates right behind the counter as you approach to order. As soon as you sit, you can't help but feel as if you're right at home.

Taking her hot cup of cappuccino, she approached the window table where her coworker sat. "Fancy seeing you here, Jacob," she said with a smile, showing that she did not mean it in an unpleasant way, "Do you mind if I join you?"
Jacob had no rush to do his dreaded clothes shopping so he relaxed in his chair in the café and just people watched. It was a wondrous thing what you could see just by looking out a window at those that walked by in the street. People did eye raising things when they thought nobody was looking like that old auntie that had pick pocketed a number of items from the shop’s she had passed. Jacob was glad he was not the MLE.

Turning to his sandwich and cappuccino Jacob had just downed a big bite of the spicy ham when he was joined by Autumn. Happily surprised he beamed up at her. "Hi Autumn!" Gesturing to the seat across from he continued. "Not at all, please sit down. So are you having a good break from work? Did you get any nice christmas presents?” He drank some coffee because the sandwich was hot and burning in his mouth.

Fallon gave Victoria a warm smile. It would be nice to have someone to chat with even for an hour or so. She still wasn't used to all the alone time she had with the divorce and the kids being out of the house. "I'm a photojournalist for Witch Weekly." She put her hand on her portfolio. It was pretty much her whole life at the moment. "Working on a spread for a new age correcting potion coming out." She was never one for those types of things but to each their own.

Someone who was a photojournalist. What? She could only imagine how fun that could be. She had always imagined being a photographer would be really fun and she could eventually work runways and fashion shows. It would have been fun to be the person who made fashions famous or made the models superstars. "That's really cool." She smiled at her, "Oh wow, good things about it so far?" not that it really mattered to her thus far but she figured if she could get a little knowledge why not get a little knowledge.

Fallon smiled. She really loved her job. It was fun getting to go and photograph people. The hardest part was the editing and choosing the photos to actually use for the layouts and whatnot. "It's a lot of work though." She always had some late nights when it was close to deadline. "As far as I know. Haven't tried any of the product myself but the models seemed to love it." Most of the models had used the product for a little bit before the shoot actually took place.

At his invitation, Autumn sat down opposite from him and put her cup of cappuccino down on the table between them. It was not often that she saw her colleagues outside of the Ministry - she liked to separate work and her personal life as much as possible. Though she was on good terms with all of the people she saw everyday, particularly her coworkers in the Gobstones division. So it was a pleasant surprise to see Jacob in the middle of the break, and she thought it wouldn’t hurt to have a cup of coffee with him and have a nice chat.

“My break is going well so far, thanks for asking. I went on a one-week trip to Italy and it was… amazing,” she said, chuckling at the memory. “Oh, I did! My sister got me a snowboard - if you don’t know what it is, it’s a board you use to glide on snow… a fascinating Muggle sport that I’m really into recently. What about you? What have you been up to?”

It wasn’t often that Jacob saw his level 7 co-workers outside the department. The only exception was West that he had become good buddies with and saw regularly. So it was nice to see Autumn here in Diagon Alley and have an easy chat with her. Jacob munched on his sandwich and drank his coffee as Autumn told him about her holiday break up to this point. At the mention of Italy he made big eyes. "Italy nice. Did you visit Rome?" He didn’t know what a snowboard was, but it was no wonder that it was a muggle invention. Jacob couldn’t help but ask "What is a snowboard? What do you do with it?"

Taking another sip of coffee he shared. "I spent one week in Mallorca with my whole extended family. It was warm and fun. And I got a nice new magical wrist watch for Christmas. It’s pretty neat with all its different modes."

She let a small laugh out, "I guess I didn't figure that." She took a sip of her drink and listened to the information that the models loved it. She was one of those people who was just interested in all things creative and sometimes that was her downfall. "I can imagine. People think I twitch my nose and suddenly dresses and suits are made." a small tsk escaped her lips as she shook her head. People always assumed she just charmed everything to be sewn for her. In some instances that wasn't bad. Winter holidays, sure she'd have charmed knitting needles going but for special requests, by hand was the only option.

This coffee was good. And that was coming from someone who usually disliked coffee. Coffee had been widely available to Autumn ever since she entered the working world because Ministry employees were caffeine addicts, but she preferred drinking tea. She did appreciate good coffee from time to time though.

"I did visit Rome, as well as Venice and Milan. Have you been to Italy before?" The woman said, her eyebrows raised. Oh, she did not imagine that she would be explaining what a snowboard is to a wizard. Not that Jacob was ignorant - it was natural for him to not know about it - it was just that Autumn had failed her Muggle Studies OWL miserably during her Hogwarts years. It was a shame really, since her interest in the lives of Muggles improved significantly since she graduated from school. "Well, snowboarding involves gliding down a snow-covered hill, while you are standing on the snowboard... which is attached to your feet. It's kind of like skateboarding or surfing, but on snow," she explained animatedly. Snowboarding was so much fun. He should try it sometime.

Autumn listened to Jacob talking about his holiday with a smile on her lips. "Sounds like you had a great time," she commented. She really wanted to go on a vacation with her whole family as well, but it was difficult to find a time that worked for everyone. "Are you looking forward to another year in the Ministry?"

Jonathan finally finishes unpacking the last boxes from the attic. It is going to change seasons soon so he needed to do some sorting done around the house. Boy it was a lot of hard work. For now he decided to take a break and roam around Diagon Alley. He walked pass the music shop and bought a few stuff for himself. He will be adding it to his collection after all. Now that he is done, drinking coffee is a great idea. He walked inside the cafe and ordered himself coffee. One thing is for sure, the coffee here smells incredible. After getting his order, Jonathan grabbed himself a chair.

Ahhhh, relaxation and some coffee.

Vitani Kama was overdue for a lunch break. She'd spent the past several hours redecorating the tattoo shop, and she became so absorbed in her work that she lost track of time. Now her stomach was growling as she walked into Espresso Patronum. She was almost hesitant to venture so far away from her own shop, but the Leaky Cauldron was a bit crowded for her taste and she preferred lighter fare anyway. She ordered a latte and a bacon, brie, & cranberry panini - the fanciest-sounding items on the menu - and took a seat at the nearest table. As she enjoyed her meal, she allowed her mind to wander.

Wow, I never thought I'd be back here! she thought, her brown eyes darting around the cafe. Not "here" as in this exact shop... "Here" as in Diagon Alley and London in general. When she left London 30 years ago, she swore she would never be back... yet here she was. All that time clawing her way to the top in the art world, and where did it get her? Right back where she started. It was like nothing ever changed. Oh, how far she'd fallen! She missed her art gallery. She missed the hustle and bustle of New York. She missed the glamour of Paris, but she couldn't go back to either place without being constantly reminded of all she lost.

Here's to my first day as a has-been, Vitani thought, raising her coffee cup slightly in a mock toast. As she set her mug down, something on the edge of the table caught her eye. It was a book; she picked it up and read the title: Witchy Washings. Funny, she didn't recall seeing that book when she sat down. Where did it come from? Maybe it had fallen out of someone's bag. She opened the book to see if there was some clue who it belonged to, like a name written inside the cover, but no, there was nothing. No matter, she'd just hand it in to the shopkeeper in case the owner came back for it.

As she set the book aside, she couldn't help but notice how filthy the table looked. Oh no, no, no, no! This would never do! All thoughts of handing in the book forgotten, Vitani made a beeline for the napkins, grabbing a handful of them, and returned to her seat, furiously wiping down the table. Somebody had to do it, as it was obvious this shopkeeper was cutting corners on cleanliness! After several minutes, she looked again. These napkins weren't doing the job! She needed real cleaning supplies! With a wave of her wand, she transfigured the napkins into cloth rags. Now she just needed some polish! Did this cafe have any in the back? Maybe she could summon it.

Jonathan is sipping his coffee while taking a look at the place. Observing most of it, anyway. His thoughts drifted into the house. He is remembering lists of things to do while he is out right now and the things that he will be doing when he comes home. Boring stuff but he needs to do it, doing chores that is. He noticed the moving patterns on the walls but then again that has always been noticeable. It's part of the shop's decor and it looked nice. It isn't something he would approve of but it looked nice. His eyes wandered around as the patterns on the wall moved. That one he didn't really take time to observe. He just thought it floated yet surprisingly they're also moving in a rhythm. It must be a boring day for him to just stare around and observing everything his eyes can see. Like the candles that turns on when a customer walks or passes by. That was the first thing he actually noticed when he passed by to get a table for himself.

Weird, not the candles but him. Jonathan is always like this anyway.

He notices someone walk in, sitting near him with her meal and coffee. She even gestured, raising her mug. Jonathan didn't stare at all nor she thought it was odd, no, but she is within his view. He finally takes a peak when she found the book on her table. Witchy Washings was it? But he couldn't read the entire cover because the woman placed it aside. Wait. He didn't realize the book was there. Then again he didn't notice the patterns were moving.

Theeeennnn she started cleaning or wiping the table at least.

It's true the tables were not the cleanest but it is clean enough but maybe just like him, this woman enjoys cleaning. That could be it. "The tables here need to be cleaned more" he smiled and looked at her. "Do you need more tissues?" he asked while handing her more.

Freyja was daydreaming and humming to herself as she whisked into the quaint little coffee shop. Her mind was all over, but she was mostly thinking about her job (which she loved) and particularly, a few cute men she'd seen wandering the Ministry (yay!). She tucked her long blonde hair behind her ear as she dreamily ordered a vanilla latte and found a seat at a small table for two. Now if only she had some company...

She looked out the window at the people milling about in Diagon Alley, wondering whether she would see anyone she recognized. She hadn't really met anyone yet, per se -- a hazard of being in the Department of Mysteries, she wagered -- but there were certainly people she'd seen around. She wondered if any of them had noticed her too. Maybe she would run into someone she recognized?

Vitani kept cleaning the table the best she was able to with the materials available to her. After several minutes of vigorous wiping, she noticed the gold polish on her fingernails was now chipped and dirty, which sent her anxiety into overdrive. Eww, that looked awful! Now she had a messy table and messy nails to deal with... but for now, the table was more important.

She was so absorbed in the task that she completely blocked out everything going on around her until someone spoke to her. Finally, someone else who noticed this cafe's sub-par standards of cleanliness! Vitani returned the gentleman's smile with a small one of her own as she took the tissues he handed her. "Thank you," she replied. "I'm afraid these don't seem to be doing the job, though." She gestured to a small pile of torn, flimsy napkins on the table (the ones she hadn't tried to transfigure into cloth rags). "I could get this table much cleaner if I had some furniture polish. You wouldn't happen to have any, would you?" Was that an odd question? Yes. Did that matter? No. For now, all her focus was on getting this table clean.

The woman is slowly beginning to feel a tad bit frustrated? Jonathan can't be too sure but she is definitely not happy about the not-so clean tables at this shop. He sees it too but he managed to notice everything else so that he would not be doing the same thing as her. It's very triggering and Jonathan understands her. He's a neat freak himself and loves to clean everything in his house. Always moving stuff and dusting them regularly, in fact his daughter is beginning to find it odd. As for her comment about the people at this cafe not doing a very good job at cleaning, he couldn't agree more. "Earlier I thought they were just part of the cafe's interior" it did look like patterns....? Well Jonathan didn't know until he got a closer look. "i guess there was probably a big group that came before us which led to the dirty tables" small talk, of course. Not that it made sense if the cafe had a lot of customers, the question of its hygiene still remains.

Furniture polish?

Jonathan looks at the woman and then back at the table. Would someone normally have a handy furniture polish in their bags? Or did he just not know about this one. Maybe some ladies have them....? He shakes his head and replied "I don't have any right now." He is also trying to think how he can help out but if the table is hard to get clean maybe some magic would do? Perhaps. "Should we use a spell to have it cleaned?" he asks smiling at the thought. "it's sort of the only way" he nods.

Vitani blinked, sightly taken aback by the man's comment. She couldn't understand how anyone could think this mess was part of the decor, but then again, there was no accounting for taste. There were some very strange styles of interior design out there! She nodded in reply to his next words. A large group could explain the mess. "Maybe so," she said, "though that's hardly an excuse for such sloppiness."

She turned her attention back to the table. It was much cleaner than when she started, but Vitani was nothing if not a perfectionist. She wouldn't be satisfied until she could see her face reflected in the table... a task that would be much harder without furniture polish! So the man didn't have any with him; that was unfortunate but not at all surprising. She considered the suggestion of a spell for a moment. That wasn't a bad idea, though she couldn't help but feel that using magic would be cutting corners. There was nothing like good old-fashioned elbow grease to get a job done! Then a though occurred to her. "Maybe there's a spell we could use in the book," she said.

Vitani looked for the book she'd found earlier, but it was nowhere to be seen. Oh well, maybe she'd moved it in the cleaning process. She checked on the chairs and the floor around her table, but it wasn't there either. Weird... it was there one minute, and now it was gone! "Did you see a book around here?" she asked. "I thought I put it down on the table, but now I can't find it."

The woman's facial expression made Jonathan smile. He can really tell now that this is the type of person who loves to clean, just like himself. He sees the resemblance. The way she wants to clean the tables ad that she gets really disappointed when it doesn't go the way she wants it to happen. Jonathan gets that because he is that kind of person as well. It is best if he helps her out. "Tell me about it" he stands quite near her and rolled up his sleeves and then started to wipe the table with the napkins they have in hand. "I also don't understand it" Hopefully the shopkeeper will soon find time to clean the seating area. Hopefully.

Jonathan is still trying to clean some part of the table until the woman mentions a book. He stops to look at her. He saw her with a book earlier but he wasn't sure what kind of book it was. He wasn't even aware that it could help them with the cleaning of the tables. Nevertheless, whatever can help them at this point will do "Sounds like a great idea." he nods.

But wait, where is the book?

His eyes wandered around the area, maybe she is talking about a different book? maybe she has her own book in her bag and not the one he saw her with earlier... Except the woman is also now trying to find a book. "uhmm.." Jonathan tried to check the seats. Nope, it wasn't there too. "Maybe it fell when you were cleaning and sort of moving the table" he uttered. "perhaps under the table?" plausible. "Was that your book?" he asked.

It had not been the best winter break, quite honestly it had been the worst. No one cared to celebrate the holidays, but they did for the little ones. She had to keep up with the holiday spirit for her children. Helena had come home for a bit and it was nice to have all three girls under the same roof, even if it wasn't for very long. She knew the twins wanted to be with their dad, and she even had spent more time at Wade's trying to help where she could and she celebrated with Bart and his little family.

Now, she was trying to think about work and had sent an owl to Charles if he would meet her for a few things. Yes, it was work-related and she kept telling herself that, but maybe she just needed an outlet away from the family and Charles had been very supportive through everything that had happened. He was still the minster of magic and her boss, so she had brought some papers with her because this needed to be a work meeting.

Sorting through her papers she had thought about a decision she kept internally fighting and it was something she wanted to speak with Charles about as well. Taking a sip of her drink she tried to calm herself and tried to figure out why she felt so nervous.

Work was truly never done for the Minister, though January was being an all-star in giving him the opportunity to take some much needed time for himself. Today was not entirely one of those days, however, though he was managing to give himself an ample lunch break to meet with Victoria outside of the Ministry at the moment. He had some important international affairs to attend to later on and a few experimental tasks to oversee at the request of Airey. The boggart situation plaguing that man a fair bit, which Charles attested to it resonating with the man's paternal instincts he tried so hard to not show. It was endearing. He was intending on giving the man a cookie for his efforts.

Dressed more casual than usual, he needed away from formal robes for just a few hours, he approached the establishment and far too easily spotted her. His heart still ached terribly on her and her family's behalf. The service had been lovely and, to no one's surprise, he had been brought to tears. It was never an easy thing to lose young ones and Charles often blamed himself in darker hours of the day for not pushing Trentulla harder on certain matters. Perhaps, if he had, he could have prevented some of this.

"Victoria," he greeted warmly as he came to a stop beside her table. "Can I get you anything else?" He gestured towards her coffee. "A danish, perhaps?" Since he needed to head inside to order something for himself.

She had just taken another sip when she noticed him and gave a smile. "Oh, well maybe something sweet would be nice." She reached for her purse to hand him some money. She didn't expect the minister of magic to get her any food. "If you don't mind that is." She was fine with just her coffee something she was using more and more to stay focused in these harder times.

Moving some of her things so he could sit in the chair next to her she soon wondered if that was the correct thing to do, should she have moved her things, what if he wanted to sit in one of the other chairs at the table and now he felt obligated, no that was silly, she was being silly. She would have moved her things to give the opportunity for anyone. She needed to stop thinking, it was always her thoughts that drove her the craziest.

"I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and got everyone on your list." Trying to keep things light and off the last time she had seen him. It was so sweet of him to be there at the service and she truly appreciated it more than he would know.

"I do not mind in the least," he assured her with a bit of dramatic flair, which mostly meant that he was bending over slightly at the waist and with a casual wink before proceeding beyond her chair and making his way over towards the counter. "I'll take a peek at their offerings and see what speaks to me."

For some reason, he was thinking peach. Or perhaps blackberry.

Gets himself a black coffee, something to balance the sweetness of the blackberry cream cheese danishes he had for himself and Victoria, and promptly returns to her table.

"I have myself a fair few new neckties courtesy of my grandchildren," he mused while stroking the one laying neatly down his dress shirt - one that had little dragons and dragon eggs that would occasionally breathe fire or hatch when you poked them. "I stopped writing my own Christmas list many many moons ago. Have the big extended family reunion in Japan for New Years to get through next, though I do look forward to that. Chance to see my sons for longer than a mirror call." He lifted his coffee and took a careful sip, the steam tickling his nostrils. "How have you been?"

Had she watched him walk away? Maybe, but she wouldn't be obvious about that. She was still messing with her things when he approached the table with the food. "Oh that looks good." She had been a bit hungry though she would have been fine with coffee had he not offered.

With his words her eyes lifted to his neck, seeing the dragons she smiled a little. "That is very sweet of them. I bet you have drawers full of ties at home. I get the impression your grandchildren spoil you as much as you spoil them." She could just picture them all together in her head and the image made her smile. There was something about Charles that made it easy to picture him with a house full of kids. Taking a bite of her food as she listened to his plans for New Years and nodding. She didn't have any plans and fully figured she would spend the last hours of this year sleeping in her bed.

"I'm doing better I guess." There wasn't any reason to sugar coat it with Charles. "After the service, I took the girls and we went to Brazil for a visit. We have friends that live there. I feel like it helped the girls to get away for a bit. It gave me a chance to do something thinking and well it was part of the reason I asked you to meet me here." Picking up her coffee and taking a sip she wanted to get her thoughts together.

"I think, well, I've been thinking that it might be time to start considering retirement in the upcoming year." She had nothing officially planned yet, but it was just thoughts she wanted his opinion on.

He preferred something with raisins, but raisin bread did not seem to be on the menu today. Hard to beat a nicely toasted piece of it with some honey and drizzled over melted butter...but yes, the danish was nice enough and paired well with the coffee. A black coffee he had meant to remain bitter to balance the flavors...but instead the Minister found himself idly adding lumps of sugar from the sugar box centered on their table.

1...2...3...4....stir to help it all melt...5...6...

"Ties...shirts...plates...mugs...Kurumi has always been crafty and prefers the handmade path over store bought. I dare say I don't one a single piece of dinnerware that does not have a hand print on them or some sort of drawing of a lopsided dragon or giraffe...or some other creature on them. Hummingbirds and flowers if they are from Rebecca," he mused a little insensitively given the topic at hand and what Victoria and her family had been through. He couldn't help himself, he was an unapologetically proud grandfather.

He was grateful that he had not been mid sip, still stirring, as she spoke beyond her travels to Brazil to her intentions at the Ministry. Surely this was talk based upon grief, and he could hardly blame her for it. He all too vividly could remember the aftermath of Yukie's passing and how that had changed him. "I see," he nodded solemnly while tapping his spoon against the rim of the mug before setting it down on the small plate beneath it. "I simply cannot imagine Games and Sports without you at the helm," he chuckled, the twinkle in his eye fading for the briefest of moments.

His smile was sweet as he spoke of his family and she couldn't help but feel a warmth rush over her at his undeniable love and pride for his grandchildren. Even with everything that had went on, she could admire a man that wasn't afraid to show how much he loved his family and the gifts were very much from the heart. Maybe her own family could benefit from more homemade and less store-bought, but she wasn't one to be able to be crafty.

"Spending time with the grandchildren is always a wonderful time. I was able to spend some much needed time with Bart's children so he could go be with Wade. B just turned one in November so he was keeping me on my toes near the tree." It was also nice to get some baby time in before she had gone to Brazil. Such a mixture of happy and sad this break had been. She sighed a little thinking about it as she sipped her coffee.

She couldn't help but feel her heart pull as he said it wouldn't be the same. "That department has seen me through so many dark times." From her first divorce and her move to the UK when Bart was only eight years old. Now he was married with two children and she was becoming an old woman. "I have always been a workaholic so honestly I'm not sure retirement would look good on me, but some things recently have made me think about it. I just wonder if I need to step away before anything goes wrong." She wasn't one to step over professional lines and she felt she was walking a tightrope at times, but how did one explain that feeling?

The only member of his family, included extended, was his precious peach of a daughter. Though his granddaughter did follow in her mum's footsteps as far as craftiness was concerned. Though his grandson wasn't awful either when he wanted to apply himself - he had SEEN the necklace he had performed a bit of metal charming to create for that lovely girlfriend of his.

"ONE! Oh what a glorious age. So many milestones! I hope you were able to experience one or two while spending time with him." Charles missed babies, which was likely why he made a grand spectacle out of any employee who happened to let slip in his presence that there was a pregnancy. He could argue that it was all for population purposes, but no one would ever believe that.

Taking a sip of his own coffee - MERLIN, why was it so sweet? - and then a bite of his danish, he brushed a few crumbs that had caught in his beard. "I've found that workaholics fall into one of four categories, if I may be so bold as to suggest. Motivational, Cognitive, Emotional, and Behavioral. Motivational being of the sort that work because they feel compelled to by internal pressures and do not necessarily enjoy their work. Typically...these sorts do not. Cognitive are those who find it difficult, perhaps impossible, to mentally disengage from work. Emotional, for those who experience negative feelings and thoughts when they are not working...anxieties, guilt, sadness...and Behavioral, where it is a reflex to work well beyond what any organization will expect. I feel I can safely rule three of these out easily for you, Victoria. After all, you have said it yourself that this job, the department, the work got you through many tough times." His analysis was not meant as a reprimand nor was he intending to perform some sort of grandfather lecture on his own employee, on his friend. His words were sincere and from the heart - though it was likely a bit difficult to take everything he said seriously with the bits of danish still clinging to his scruffy looking beard. "They do say that workaholism relates to feeling more guilt, anxiety, anger, and disappointment...either from the workplace itself of in private matters of the home." Which went without saying, truly. He gingerly reached across the table to rest a hand atop hers. "I am not ridiculing you for your work effort, Victoria. It is more that I worry for you, especially in light of what has happened with your family. So if a step away is what you believe is right for you, then you have my support. As your friend and as your Minister."
