Default Blood Status

ok, so I hope these questions haven't already been asked. I did a thread search and could not find anything so I think im good.

1. What would be an apropriate blood status if the father is a squib and the mother is a muggle?

Ern type edit: I'm hijacking this question from the Questions thread to initiate a discussion and to provide a place for other RPers to clear up their own blood status questions.

I think at the end of the day, you can pretty much reach your own conclusions, however you'll need to be prepared that IC not everyone will agree and some who are 'legitimately' pureblood (as in supposedly completely magical) might just call you out on it.

That could be interesting though

I'm saying that I was muggleborn because my parents are both muggles but what if my distant relatives were wizards, would I still be muggleborn

I think so. I'm pretty sure JK said that muggleborns DO have some distant relatives that were magical. That they still have SOME magic in them, but it might be from waaaaaay long ago.

I don't think it's based only on whether the parents are magical or not.

I think only prejudiced Purebloods who actually care about bloodline and lineage and all that would think that. Most other wizards and witches who don't care about that kind of thing aren't inclined to think any bloodline is "better" than other one.

One thing I wonder about though is what a child with a Squib parent would be. Like if a Squib married a Pureblood. Would the child still be Pureblood? Or Half-blood? Or if a Squib married a Muggle. Is the child a Half-blood or a Muggle-born?
I agree with that. My dad's muggleborn, and my mum's pureblood, and my brothers and I are considered mixed-blood, but not half-blood because both of our parents are magic. I think a squib's children would be considered half-blood, whomever they married. They're from magical lineage, so calling their children muggleborn if their other parent was a muggle wouldn't be correct, but if their other parent was a witch or wizard, that wouldn't make them pureblood. But, like you said, no bloodline is better than any other.

I believe that, if a squib marries a pureblood, their children are purebloods. It's about the purity of the blood - if the blood [lineage] is 'purely magical' or not - and not about the magical abilities.

Just my two cents.

I think it boils down to the grandparents... if one of the distant relatives are halfblood, muggle born, etc. then the child will be half blood? Something like that anyway.

^This, it would make sense given that a Squib is considered a skip in receiving the magic ability in their family, since the term Squib describes them as having magic in their family but they didn't get it. So I think two Squibs producing a witch/wizard would still have them considered pure-blood, since muggle-born is detailed in having no magic in their recorded family history.
