| | SnitchSeeker Order of the Phoenix review #2 (spoilers only if you choose them)
Sser cursedkatie and I, along with Raadhika and Diana from our partner site TheSnitch.co.uk, drove up to the front gate of Warner Brothers film studio last week to see an advanced preview of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The guard yelled at us for blocking other cars when we stopped to take a picture of its famous water tower. Ah well, he still let us in and gave us our press passes.
After check in, our purses were searched and our bodies wanded (for hidden recording equipment). We then entered a private screening room with about 250 others, found seats in the dead center, and watched the film.
Be forewarned, THERE ARE HIDDEN SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW. If you don't want to know anything specific, don't click on the "show" buttons.
David Yates
For someone who has never directed a huge blockbuster of this type, Harry Potter newbie David Yates took this film in hand and delivered startling images and a dark nightmarish feel as he took us along with Harry on an emotional journey of self-doubt and eventual self-assurance. I have to applaud David Yates as a true “actors” director. The performances of Dan, Emma and Rupert have improved tremendously, although Dan’s, perhaps due to more screen time, was absolutely outstanding. And I’m thrilled that Yates will be returning to direct Half-Blood Prince.
The beginning
The film starts out with a very depressed Harry, dealing with nightmares over Cedric Diggory’s death, separation anxiety from his friends, taunts from Dudley – what a bully he is in this film – and then, when he loses his temper with his horrid cousin and is seemingly at his lowest point, things get worse. Two dementors swoop down and well, do what dementors do best.
Luna Lovegood
Everything you’ve heard about Evanna Lynch being perfect for the part of Luna Lovegood is absolutely 100 percent true. She was appropriately “dreamy” throughout the entire film – and played Luna as very wise beyond her years, albeit odd - exactly how Luna should be. Luna is instrumental in pulling Harry out of his funk. You will love her. I promise.
Severus Snape
The most interesting comment from Snape came during Occlumency lessons when
Sirius Black
Gary Oldman is back with a vengeance as Sirius Black and put to good use this time with many intense scenes instead of his ridiculously brief cameo appearance in Goblet of Fire. Unfortunately
Dolores Umbridge
I’ll be blunt. Dolores Umbridge scared the crap out of me. The scene in her office when she caught Harry, tied him up and
Bellatrix Lestrange
Bellatrix Lestrange – what a nut ... and mean. She's exactly as Jo wrote her. Well done, Helena. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Bella in the next two films.
CGI
The Thestrals were awesome, just as Jo describes them in the book. The centaurs were amazing, although their scene was way too brief. Hagrid’s giant brother Grawp was quite touching and humorous, albeit
The kiss
The kiss between Harry and Cho was sweet. Eh, kind of schmaltzy with
The possession
This scene was truly breathtaking.
What I loved
What I didn’t like
The ending
I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the end of the film. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Emerson Gray. Fourth Year | G1GGL3R! *giggles* My GarBear Great review. Overall, it sounds really awesome. I'm dying to see it, although the ending? Not so sure I'm gonna like it too much. Seeing as the ending usually has the most impact on the audience. I dunno, that's just me. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Annabelle Lee Costas First Year | ツ Zonko's Fanatic Forever! | Sirius Stalker | ShruckleNooferian ツ You're amazing, Katie. [Yesh, I still call you that XD] I've read a bunch of reviews, and while some opinions were similar to mine---No reviews has hit me quite like yours has.
I wonder if my second viewing of the movie will help ease me out of this disappointment. Although, in all fairness, some of the scenes were magnificent as you mentioned. It's just that the ones that I looked forward to the most turned out all mucky.
Either way, awesome review ;]

Can't wait to see it I've heard that Dannie-boy is becomming more and more of an actor with every next movie Good to see that you do confirm this. >Bellatrix Lestrange – what a nut ... and mean. She's exactly as Jo wrote her. Well done, Helena. Hehe when I've read about Bella for the 1st time, I imagined her in Helena B.C. way I knew that she would be perfect |

The movie sounds as if I'll definitely like it more than GOF (I don't think it's possible for me not to like it more than GOF no matter how bad it gets since this movie seems intelligent) but I won't like it more than POA which has been the best so far, in my opinion.

Graduated | Miss Sarah Bippity Boppity Boo! I just saw it yesterday, and I agree with almost everything you said, especially the last scene being way too short. I understand they only explained the smallest bit nessecary for it to make sense, but it was so... well, I can't say too much for fear of spoilers, but yeah.

I totally agree with everything you said. The movie was too short and very choppy. By the time you started to get into a scene, they wisked off to another scene. I still absolutly loved it and can't wait to see it again this weekend with my friends.

Hmmm..... Well ,we alll have different tastes so i'll probably liek te ending since I actually hated the ending in the book. Awwww. One of the things they didn't have is making me feel upset. I wanted Sirius' mother's portrait. |

I also agree with your review.
The whole thing was too RUSHED! I know they can't fit everything in their but like you said it's hard to feel the dramatic parts and get sad when they are quickly switching to something else. Plus all the other movies where close to 3 hours long while this one was just over 2 hours. They could have made certian sences longer and still kept it under 3 hours.
I haven't made up my mind still if I liked it.

This movie and GOF both moved very quickly between scenes, and just the overall plot line. I understood what was going on, but my Dad didn't because he never had. It becomes sort of like they assume the people who watch the films have already read the books.

GREAT REVIEW!~!! but...i just got really dissapointed by he ending bit...but, you cant put everything into the movie...somtimes, i feel they turn harry potter into a sort of commidy..they take out a LOT of emotion...and put in random funny stuff....i mean, i love commidies...but harry potter sint really one...i mean,jo has the times when she makes me rally laugh!!! but most of the time either i am holding my breath, or half crying...so...i always hope the films will be like that to...but there is NO person what so ever that could make me feel like Jo makes me feel!!! and i love her for that!!! Well... back to the movie...it was a great review there, each time i go to universal studios and i'm at the train ride (for who ever has bin there) i look down the hill side and se the studios down there, and i'm like "I wanna go THERE!!"
hehe...well...tomarrow, after my long long flight to LA, i will see the movie (yup, i am taking a 14 hor fliht to LA so i can see the movie before it comes out here in Israel...no no, just kidding, i will do other things there to!)
Well...the movie sounds good anyways...with all that funny stuff about crookshanks and all!!!!LOL!!!!

It is in the film, we just don't see it in the same way as the book. Quote:

Just to be pedantic - all the films have been short of three hours by anywhere between 15 - 45 minutes. The death scene was quick in the book - the point being death is brutal and sudden. At least that's how I interpreted it. Quote:

Five films in you kind of have to - too much exposition and you lose the audience. Viewers don't need to be patronised and neither would fans appreciate it.
