Review: Godzilla (2014)

The latest stab at Godzilla is unfortunately a bit slow-paced and rather dull, truth be told. The biggest issue is given its cast, including Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, and Marvel's two new big finds in Elizabeth Olsen and headliner Aaron Taylor-Johnson, should have been memorable, but weren't at all. Anyone could've played the roles, and it would not have made a difference. It's not to say they gave bad performances - because they were fine in the roles - but all the human characters really did was drive the plot forward. One didn't feel an emotional involvement in any of the characters, even the young family who may have broken apart because of the mess Godzilla and his enemies caused.

The best part of the feature was Godzilla himself, who unfortunately had his key moments at the very end of the two-hour-long film (which felt longer). The film starts off slow, continues to be a bit tedious with its physics mumbo-jumbo, and finally the only interesting parts happen - and those are of course the scenes with the monsters themselves. Are people in the movie? Sure they are. Will anyone care? Not really, unless they are die-hard fans of any of the actors listed.

Someday there will be a great adaptation of Godzilla, but this isn't one of them. One good thing is that it is far superior than the 1990's version, which was a mess all around. If it didn't drag on forever, it may have been fun.

So, if you're willing to sit through two hours just to get to those final ten minutes of great action with Godzilla and the MUTO monsters, then enjoy. Otherwise, wait for the DVD release. Godzilla hits theaters this Friday.

Horribe

I thought this movie is more dull and very slow. I thought this movie was boring, but then I would change my mind right in the middle of that thought because I didn't understand Godzilla's part until practically the end.

I thought the cast was rather.. interesting. actually confusing about why. Just why? The plot.. I felt as if there was more than one. why would the director put two new creatures.. do you really need them to make a movie? That shows lack of character. that shows lack of creativity..
