| | |  Sixth-Floor Corridor
 It goes without saying that the sixth-floor corridor is a curious one. Several doors can be found along this carpet-lacking hallway that mostly lead to storerooms, a few classrooms, and rooms that are locked for reasons unknown to you. Though the most notable features of the sixth floor are the Transfiguration and Music classrooms and a tapestry covering a long crack in the wall where a mysterious portal had once been.
While there isn't much to explore on this floor, at least the bust of Glanmore Peakes will give you something to look at. But if admiring the sea serpent slayer isn't really your thing, there are plenty of bizarre portraits to talk to. Temeritus Shanks is always up to date about the details being printed in the Prophet and swears every word in it is true; Vindictus Viridian will give you some pointers on how to get revenge on your enemies using a few choice potions; and Wendelin the Weird, well, she doesn't really have much to say because she's too busy laughing maniacally while "burning" at the stake.
Or perhaps a certain nook containing a cage with two birds, one black and one white, will capture your attention. How did those get there?

So. many. rooms.
Nerina was nosy so of course she was wandering the halls, casually checking which doors were unlocked. A gentle twist of a door knob here, a little push there. It was the doors that wouldn't open for her that made her pause the longest. Like the one she was currently standing in front of, ear pressed to the wood. She could've sworn she'd heard something inside. She was tempted to knock, but for now she was just listening.

It wasn't as flashy as Beauxbatons and everything felt more like it had been slapped together by some wonky charms rather than anything more intentional, but the brick structure still somehow commanded respect. He wondered if it was the mischief that was built in the castle's DNA. Things never were what they seemed and that was, if not else, intriguing.
What was not new, not unexpected, was the familiar sight Gideon happened upon on the sixth floor. It was like something pulled straight from the pages his childhood. Nerina. Where she wasn't supposed to be. Gideon felt pressure, the same one he often saw his father pinch whenever work was exceptionally stressful, mount behind his eyes. And the Slytherin said rather dryly, "What're you doing?"

Raising her eyebrows a little, Nerina poked him in that very same forearm. ”We? I intended for this to be a solo quest.” A fact finding mission, if you will. And she didn’t like the way he questioned her all the time. It was annoying.
”Maybe I’ll figure out if this is some abandoned classroom that’s good for snogging or a broom closet filled with creepy crawly things that are better left alone. Maybe this is a secret meeting place for professors who are having a romance.” She smiled a bit at the thought. The possibilities are endless.”

Her parents were an interesting pressure point, though, and not one he meant to push. He was only making an observation. His own would be furious with him if he was barely into his new school and got in trouble.
Still. He stopped. Because as much as they liked to needle one another, Gideon supposed he could admit they were something close to friends. Or at least workplace proximity partners. "I don't know what they do or don't find pressing, Nerina. That's the whole point. You barely know this school and you're lurking."

It was bad enough that these steps moved and spat him out places he never intended to be, but now Nerina was saying that there was also prank magic built into the design. He liked Hogwarts, he reminded himself. He was here for a reason.
"Besides snooping, what are you doing up here?" The fifth year didn't want to talk about the steps anymore. They would continue to plague him and he needed to learn to move past it, otherwise he would spend many an afternoon upset.
