SS: Growing Up Paton Style

Overview

In this thread will be a sneak peek into the many chaotic happenings that take place in the Paton household or wherever they go. Life with four young children isn't always easy and neither is holding down full time careers. Can Frankie and Hady make it work?

Scene One

A not so quiet day at home. Frankie and Hady try to keep the kids entertained while spending the day inside the house.

Hady was tired. The working mother of four and wife of Auror Frankie Paton was tired. It seemed like she was always that way now. Married life wasn't easy. Raising children wasn't either. Neither was her career as a Magizoologist and tending to the ever growing abundance of creatures that she did. But one would never know it from looking at her. She never looked tired and she threw herself at every task with nothing less than her all.

Only... someday's were hard. Particularly days like today. A weekend. A Saturday to be exact. One that was raining. Hard. And showed no signs of stopping anytime soon. Which only meant one thing... four very hyper children complaining about having nothing at all to do because they couldn't go outside.

Hadleigh carefully set their youngest into her baby swing, setting the motion on a gentle relaxing back and forth cycle hoping it would lull Bryony to sleep. Wishful thinking was what it was. If Bry would nap she could entertain Nova, Melody and Logan with the help of Frankie.

Logan was bored, which was not good for a hyperactive boy like him. All he wanted to do was go outside and play. Jumping in puddles and throwing mud pies sounded like a great time, but his mummy thought different. Instead he was kept inside, full of energy, and with only finger painting, picture books, and his action figures to entertain him. And he was entertained, for a little while.

It didn't take long for finger painting to go beyond paper, picture books laid open on the floor of his bedroom with some new colours added to them, and action figures were now in the process of being scattered around the house.

The appearance of the family cat, however, soon grasped his attention. For a brief moment, he watched as the furball cleaned herself. Then a mischievous grin appeared on his face. He remained quite still for what seemed like forever, waiting for the right opportunity, before pouncing.

"COME BACK HERE!" he shouted, chasing after the hissing fluffy-tailed feline that had bolted up the stairs and down the hall into his sisters' room.

Frankie was tired, but a different kind of tired than his wife was likely feeling right now. Even though it was a Saturday and technically his day off, the Auror had been called in to work to take care of something urgent that had come up. The weather hadn't made matters any better. Tracking someone in the rain, in Animagus form or not, was not the most ideal situation.

Though not ideal, the bad guy had been caught and was sitting in a Ministry holding cell to be dealt with later. All the blond wanted was to head back home and relax without having to be drenched in the pouring rain.

Water dripped from his coat as he stepped in through the door. Instantly he was greeted with the sight of Logan running up the stairs after the cat, which only meant the boy was up to no good. Was he surprised by this? Nope. This was his son after all.

After taking off his jacket, he followed up the stairs, climbing up over a few steps at a time, until he reached the landing. It probably would have been a good idea to follow after Logan and stop him from terrorizing the cat, but there were some lessons that they boy needed to learn on his own. Instead he quietly stepped into the room Hady was in and took in the sight of her and Bryony, a smile quickly growing on his face.

Bryony's eyes had just drifted close as sleep overcame her. At least that was until the shouts of her brother flooded into her room loud and clear. She woke with a start, arms and legs flailing out, eyes flying open wide. The next thing that could be heard was the sound of her hysterical cries.



There was a soft smile on Hady's lips as she watched her youngest drifting off to sleep in her baby swing. With the little girl asleep she could go entertain her three older children until Frankie returned home from work.

Only the quiet was very short lived. Barely had she turned around to leave the room than there was a scream from none other than her only son. From the boys shouts of 'Come back here' it was obviously clear that he was chasing after someone. All she could hope for was it was one of his sisters and NOT one of their pets. Especially if it were Hagan. The poor cat was much to old and would surely scratch Logan if he felt threatened.

Hazel eyes met Frankie's for a split, how long had he been standing there in the doorway? She hadn't a clue and there was no time to even ask as Bryony began to shriek. Well there went the little girls nap. With a soft sigh, Hady walked back over to the swing and shut it off, unbuckling the strap that was holding Bryony in and lifted her out, cradling her close. "What in the world is that child up to?" she asked turning her gaze onto Frankie as if he knew what was going on.

With an insane amount of speed for a boy of four, he stormed down the hallway after the cat and bursted into his sisters' room. There was no knock on the door, and quite frankly Logan didn't even register what Nova and Melody were doing. Whatever activity they were partaking in, he had gotten right in the middle of it.

Items that were placed on shelves got knocked over as the cat tried to find safety, and Logan was no help in preventing those items from falling to the floor. Not that he cared any. The cat was his target.

"RAAAAAAAAH!" the boy screamed when the cat made a beeline for under the girls' bunk bed. Moments after Logan had made a mad dive and began crawling his way under, pushing aside whatever toys had been thrown or lost under there, ignoring the warning signs -- the nonstop hissing and fluffy tail -- that the cat was not in the mood for playing games.

The smile wavered slightly the moment Bryony started crying, clearly not pleased with the ruckus that Logan was causing. Frankie watched Hady as she went to pick up their youngest child in an effort to get her to stop crying. It was a sound that he knew all to well, and he assumed that this was a someone-didn't-get-their-nap-in kind of cry. He felt sorry for his little girl. He could relate to not being pleased about not getting a nap.

"He was chasing Hagan," he replied, shrugging slightly. It wasn't an uncommon sight to see. "Probably ran off to our room or som --"

That was when he heard more of a racket come from the next room. His head tilted to the side, hoping that the commotion was a fleeting thing. But, of course, any chaos involving Logan was not short-lived. "I'll go check on them," Frankie sighed, giving Hady a peck on the cheek before making his way out of the room.

Bryony's wails continued to only grow louder and more upset in response to her older brothers screams that could still be heard from one of the other rooms.

Hadleigh raised an eyebrow at Frankie's calm demeanor. "While that doesn't surprise me at all Hagan hasn't been taking to kindly to being tormented by him lately." The poor cat wasn't a kitten anymore and couldn't handle the way Logan chased him around. Hagan was at the very least fourteen years old now. "The more I tell him he needs to let Hagan be the more he does things like this." She sighed.

Gently holding Bryony in her arms she rocked slightly back and forth hoping to put her back to sleep. Or at least calm her down enough so she wasn't crying at the top of her lungs. Hady gave her husband a gentle smile along with a quick nod of her head. "See if he wants to play with his toys or something." Chances were the four year old wouldn't want to but it was worth a try.

Being held in her mothers arms was nice. Bryony kept crying for several minutes, her shrieks of unhappiness from being sleepy slowly trying into whines as she laid her head down on Hady's shoulder.
