Default Outdoor Seating

Visiting Florean Fortescue's for a tasty treat? In the shop just to meet and greet with friends? Either way, you'll probably be looking for a place to sit down. If the weather's warm enough, or you're just looking for some fresh air, you'll love to sit at one of the many outdoor patio tables the parlour has to offer. Each table is circular in shape, with a number of comfortable wooden seats surrounding it. Depending on the time of year, you just might find a bouquet of fresh flowers sitting in the middle of the table you're seated at.

If the sun is too bright, you'll want to open the umbrella-style top mounted on your table. Otherwise, leave the umbrella closed and pushed down to enjoy the sunny day. At each table, you'll find a menu showcasing all the tasty flavours available at Florean Fortescue's. A napkin dispenser can also be found at every table, just in case you have to clean up any ice cream accidents that do tend to happen.

At least one of them wasn’t acting, or rather feeling, like a giddy little school child awaiting their first crush. The fact that Ruby was nervous was absolutely ridiculous considering the very casual nature of the ‘date’, if they could even call it that. It was simply a meeting between two adults for ice cream, it just so happened that the man was incredibly cute and had made her heart do that little flutter and her tongue tie up in knots the first time you laid eyes on a crush.

’You’re thirty-five Ruby, not fifteen.’ She thought to herself resisting the urge to roll her eyes in disgust at her own behaviour. She was a grown woman, a professional, she would be confident and graceful and..

There he was, a handsome ray of golden haired sunshine dressed ever so casually and yet looking so perfectly put together. Her face which had been set in a soft frown that much resembled her fathers whilst she was consumed in her own thoughts quickly shifted into a sweet smile reminiscent of the sugary delights the ice cream parlour served. “Hello” she looked up at the man from her seat considering whether she should stand up for a more intimate greeting in the form of a hug. She chose not to, simply because he had tipped his hat at her and therefore it felt more appropriate to just nod her head. “That’s no trouble at all, I’m sure she’d much prefer to stay at home and play with the others than be subjected to sitting through our conversation,” she laughed musically. “It can’t be much fun for a pig.” As much as she would want to have a cuddle with that tiny tea cup pig she understood that not every human environment was suitable for them to spend long periods of time in. Her fathers dog didn’t cope particularly well when having to sit still. Her mothers Papillon was quite the opposite. She’d frequently travel to work with her and sit in the office as emotional support to the students.

As much as Jericho adored the company of others, he was not always the best at reading body language despite his gift with reading auras - and hers was positively fluctuating. The nervousness was palatable, though he was left with uncertainty as to why. He would not speculate, however, as all would become clear in time that needed to become clear.

"Perhaps, though Poppy adores the company of others and considers herself to be quite the lap piglet. Afraid her affections would muddy your lovely dress were she here," he smiled and settled his hat back into a comfortable position atop his head. "Have you already ordered? Or may I perhaps have the honor of doing so for you." And himself, naturally. Hopefully their vegan options had grown since his last visit - hard to go wrong with a good sorbet.

Cup of ice cream in hand, huge sunglasses over her eyes, and a scarf expertly tied around her head - these were the elements of a perfect disguise. The ice cream was part of the disguise, of course, because Bee had purposefully chosen a flavor she would have never gotten otherwise.

Think smarter, kids. This was Big Brain Bron at play.

As she waited for the rest of the family to step outside with their own ice creams in hand, Bronwen took the initiative to start pushing tables together... Which was not easy seeing as she was still holding an ice cream cup in one hand.

Default grimgang part 2 the arrival of celli
you wanna fite? | 💚 nickleback 💚 | Uh, anyway.

Celli kept sneezing. fake mustaches, no one tells you fake mustaches are itchier than tomato growing hair. and every little sneeze led to another mustache adjustment until the glue which kept it attached to her upper lip was barely glue at all and she had to had to hold it gently.

This meant that both hands were very occupied - ice cream cone secured - and she could only watch Bronny at work. "You should put your ice cream down on the table you aren't pushing. might help." Celli offered, scrunching her nose to stop another sneeze attack. "What flavor did you get?" she would need a taste at some point.

It had taken a few siblings to once again talk some sense into Maebry over her disguise. First of all, it wasn't even fair that she had to wear shoes in the unknown alley. Second of all, it really wasn't fair that she had to wear shoes that she was sure were pinchy pinching at her toes. THIRD of all, it basically was so so unfair that the penultimate Grimaldi baby was having to wear shoes on their day out.

But shoes wasn't what she had to be talked into.

It was that shoes were not enough of a disguise and she would get them recognised if she didn't make more of an effort. Which was why the ten year old (mere days away from being eleven!!) had on fairy wings that she had decorated with flowers herself, massive daisy flower sunglasses and a short blue wig. And shoes. Unfortunately.

She followed her two older sisters outside, her own ice cream in hand, and listened as best as she could. Although...she was a little distracted by the amount of people around. "Give me your ice creams! I'll hold them so you can move the tables!" And then she'd taste test them to make sure they weren't poisoned.

The reasoning behind Ruby’s fluctuating ‘Aura’ dear Jericho was that this Mediwitch had concentrated on her career and aiding others so much that she had completely forgotten to prioritise herself. Therefore dates like this, if you could call it a ‘date’ and not just a greeting of consenting adults, were not exactly her forte. Still, she tried to remain calm and composed on the outside even with the butterfly charm dancing around in her stomach.

The number of strings Jericho had to his bow fascinated Ruby. A world class duellist, a motivational speaker, a rescuer of animals, it almost seemed as if he would have no time for himself either and yet he breathed an air of self-confidence and assurance that wasn’t even remotely touching on arrogance. It was the sort of personality that drew you in and captivated your attention for a long time. Ruby wore her heart on her sleeve and unfortunately her altruism could easily be taken advantage of if given to the wrong individual.

“Oh I have no qualms over getting muddy” she tittered. “I grew up surrounded by horses, mucking out the stables was one of my chores.” She might’ve looked pulled together but ordinarily she wasn’t always so perfectly groomed. That was her sister Tabitha’s influence who had insisted that Ruby make a good impression by looking as feminine as possible. Truth be told the former Ravenclaw was much more at home in jeans and a t-shirt but she didn’t want Jericho to think that he was unworthy of making the effort. “Perhaps we should’ve met at your farm rather than at Florean’s” To be quite honest walking around a sanctuary fussing animals sounded rather appealing, just not the typical ‘first date’.

The decision over which flavour she would be purchasing hadn’t been particularly difficult. “Not yet but please don’t judge me for my mundane choice in ice cream flavours. I’d love a scoop of Mint Chocolate Chip” The giggle that came afterwards was a little sheepish. There would be no adventurous taste palette from this side of the table. Jericho might have been pleased to know that Ruby herself was brought up and still remained a vegetarian although the step up to veganism had yet to be considered.

Her cap and oversized shades - cat eyes, today, by some designer or other - were becoming a stable of the Babysitters wardrobe. She couldn't remember what film it was, but all of the heroes seemed to be able to go unnoticed when they donned them, and so Winifred was hoping the same. She was trying not to roll her eyes at the 'disguises' of the others. Bronwen, for once, wasn't even the one she was worried about - the scarf was actually pretty chic, and had they been on mopeds in Roma she would have been copying the style.

But the moustache? Celli, come on. But she wouldn't say anything, no, she would just deal with the inevitable fall out when it occurred. As for baby Maebs (who was still a baby, to the eldest)... Well, the wings were cute enough to bring a smile to Wins face, even as she fussed over them all in the queue.

And was left to pay. SIGH. One day, when she offered, someone else would pipe up and say no no no, that it was their turn to do so! But Winifred wasn't holding her breath. She joined the others outside (sans ice cream, she was still feeling some sort of way about that article, and the idea made her a little queasy), dropped a kiss on Maebry's head, and then joined Bon pushing tables together.

FOR! THE! RECORD! Astrid Harmony Grimaldi was ALSO here!

But you don't know that, of course. She was in her most perfect disguise because she was taller today. Because of her platform shoes! Not heels. There's a difference. The soles of her shoes were simply thicker and taller, thanks to Larky Barky's wonderful spellwork after she poked and pestered him endlessly until he gave in and charmed them for her to complete her disguise. She also had a pretty bucket hat to complete the undercover look, so nobody will absolutely recognise her because her hat covered her face and she wasn't 133cm anymore. At least for today. Fool-proof disguise!

The youngest Grimaldi had also lagged behind from most of the siblings, mainly because she wanted to fit as many marshmallows and gummy bears into her ice cream cup as humanly possible. And also the new shoe height was a little weird to work with. She was already nomming a marshmallow as she walked outside to join the gang, sidestepping a little to avoid Maebry's wings and pausing briefly beside Celi to whisper into the older girl's ear. "What if you get ice cream on your moustache?" Seemed gross, you know? And what if it ruined the disguise? Never mind that it was already a terrible disguise! And that it was making her sneeze! The important thing here is that it might RUIN the ice cream experience!!

Astrid also watched Bronny Wonny and Winnie push the tables, not planning to help because she was ~small~ and busy with her ice cream. Into her mouth, another marshmallow went.

Did sunglasses really count as a disguise?? Was more like just normal wear for the summer sun. Maybe Mel was just overthinking it. The fake mustache was at least trying. But it did look stupid. Maebry on the other hand looked nothing like herself so guess that counts as winning in this case. Astrid....well Astrid was giving it her best and that's all she will say about that. but Melo couldn't judge since she was the party pooper and not even wearing a disguise. The only thing she had on her head was a black sun hat.

She was just enjoying her cookies and cream ice cream and watching them put the tables together.

"How can you even enjoy the ice cream wearing that thing??"

Melo said to Cel.

Seemed like it would just be too distracting. But that was none of her business. Shame she couldnt bring her phone

The summer weather was definitely getting to miss Pippa Wild, but she also figured she was adapting pretty well. For one, summers back at the reserve were probably hotter, so it was mostly just getting used to the fact summer here in England wasn’t summer in New Zealand. Plus, she was enjoying the time spent in Diagon Alley, both with her siblings and when she’d had alone time. Of which, now appeared to be one of the latter times.

Messy hair twisted up on top of her head and held in place by her wand, and charmed earbuds in her ears, the fourteen-year-old was seated at a table across the seating area from the group of clearly disguised kids rearranging the furniture. Her blue eyes had been watching them as she enjoyed her scoops of lemondrop ice cream, when they hadn’t been perusing the view of the alley beyond the barrier, but otherwise she was allowing them their space. As far as she was concerned they weren’t hurting anyone. Even if she had an inkling she recognized them from somewhere, too. Something to consider later on, assuming they were in the alley for the same reason she was.

Besides, there were plenty of others to occupy her time for now. Probably.

Eulalia had once again lost the argument about getting a pet lizard to take to Hogwarts. She'd have to settle for an owl, they were useful. But she didn't want to settle for an owl. She didn't care to have an owl that could, say, deliver howlers (not that her parents would send her howlers). She just wanted a li'l buddy. That was all.

So instead of an owl or a lizard, she'd settled for an ice cream. Which she was now going to eat, all alone, in the company of just herself, while her parents finished her shopping.

Holding her bowl of ice cream (cookies 'n cauldron cakes and strawberry jam, of course), Eulalia avoided the group of people wearing mustaches and fairy wings and scarves (in summer!) and aimed for the seat next to an older girl who seemed much calmer. The commotion of the furniture and disguises took her mind off her feet for too long, however, because she tripped over a chair leg, her ice cream flying out of her bowl right towards the older girl!

With a yelp, Lally hid her face, not wanting to see what a mess she'd likely made.

Think smarter, kids. This was Big Brain Bron at play.

As she waited for the rest of the family to step outside with their own ice creams in hand, Bronwen took the initiative to start pushing tables together... Which was not easy seeing as she was still holding an ice cream cup in one hand.

In all honesty, Cyprien didn't think the disguises were all that worth it. Not when you had, just as one example, Celindummy rocking up in an honest-to-Merlin moustache and immediately giving the game away. Factor in the number of them gathering, and their ages, and Celinde turning up dressed as a joke shop display stand - nothing out of the ordinary there, amiright? - and sooner or later someone would clock them

Maebry though? She could do no wrong. Her disguise was perfect, actually.

So it didn't matter too much. All the same, he'd put the effort in, just for that modicum of privacy; the tactic that had earned him his own press nickname wasn't really suited to entire-day-long outings, though he wasn't above attempting it. Nah, for today, Cyprien had gone magical, like the boss baby... except not really like her at all. He'd got Gen to straighten and charm his hair blond, swept those newly luscious locks back so that they fell forward into his eyes anyway with that specific kind of grace his curls would not usually allow, and set off the look with mirror lens aviators, and a jacket he'd borrowed from old Smithsonian. Had he been alone, it probably would have been more than enough to keep him lowkey - though he'd admittedly also ended up bearing a faint resemblance to Lark. O, cruel world!

But yeah, he looked cool. But he was sweltering. But he had ice cream. But it was melting.

"What thing?" he chimed in, joining the others outside, plucking a marshmallow from his own ice cream and throwing it into his mouth before continuing. "Is she wearing something new? I hadn't noticed." The tables looked more or less sorted - thanks WenWin - so, after a moment's calculation, Cyprien dropped into a seat with his back facing what he'd determined to be the majority of the crowds, hidey-holes, and side-street entrances. The window of Floreans was reflective enough for him to keep an eye out for undesirables.

The actions of the group across the seating area hadn’t seemed to advance too much, nor had Pippa exactly settled on why she thought they looked familiar. Either way, she’d mostly gone back to watching the other people walking by on the street, rather oblivious to the fact the music coming through her earbuds should have answered her other questions. Had she officially acknowledged that there actually were questions. For now, it was just a nice soundtrack to the day, one she’d carefully curated over several days prior to the decision to come to the Alley.

If only she’d thought to bring her bat along, he might have been able to enjoy the lovely chaos of the street. Although understandably, her familiar likely would have preferred otherwise. Bat things.

She had just lifted the spoon to her mouth when a yelp filtered through the music from her earbuds, and she’d looked up in time to narrowly dodge the flying ice cream headed her way. Narrowly, as a few splatters had landed on her arm that were easily removed with a napkin. The mess on the floor next to her table was a bit less easy to deal with, given underage magic laws and such.

“Are you okay?”, she said, stepping over the fallen ice cream as she approached the younger girl, lowering the volume of her earbuds as she moved.

Only a few seconds in and Browen was ready to give up on pushing tables together. And then Celi walked up with an ice cream in hand, mustache on face, and made absolutely no attempt to aid the table-pushing effort, which only made Bee want to extra give up. Whenever Win paid and stepped out, she'd probably sort it out. So Ronnie took a momentary table-pushing hiatus, though she still handed her ice cream to Maebs. "Thanks, Maebs." The little one received a small smile.

As for her flavor of choice, "Barbecued Sausage something, I think." Or maybe it was the cockroach one? She was between the two, both sounded so totally opposite of her taste."I hope it doesn't actually taste like barbecued sausage." Like, ew, could you imagine?

Bee was trying her best not to. Um. Maybe she should've gone for lemon instead. Was it too late to go back inside and switch?

It was just then that, Wini stepped out to help with the tables, meaning Ronnie's momentary table-pushing hiatus was over (SAD!). "Where's your ice cream, Win?" She asked with mild concern as the two of them worked to smush roundtables up against each other. She hadn't left her dessert inside with Lexi, right? He might lose it. Not because Lexi was careless or anything, but because all of their sib-cousins were being especially themselves today. Especially Cel, who Mel and Atti were thankfully keeping occupied. There'd be nothing more embarrassing than a wild mustache gone rogue. She could imagine the articles now.

Turning, Bronwen plucked her ice cream from Maebs and moved to sit down. "Blonde looks good on you, Cyp," she noted with approval. "So. What'd everyone get?"

As it was, her face contorted as her mouth formed the biggest frown she could manage. She glanced behind her at the big group of kids across the seating area. They hadn't all seen that, had they? Eulalia rested her spare hand on the side of her face, looking woefully at her ice cream on the ground.

There was no salvaging that, was there?

She looked up at the older girl, forcing a smile. "Oh, I'm fine," she said, her tone of voice contradicting both her words and her smile. "Clumsy, I guess." Clumsy, distracted... and now hungry, since she'd only been given enough money for one round of ice cream. She heaved a big sigh and peered into her bowl. Maybe she could make do with the bits that hadn't fallen to the ground.

He had breathing exercises that could assist with that. Well, breathing exercises paired with self meditations. They did not always work for all, though he was having a very positive success rate with his most recent long term client. Speaking of, he needed to send James a reminder about his next appointment so Jericho was not accidentally stood up again. Bit flighty, that blond, but making great strides.

"Ah, absolutely majestic creatures, aren't they?" he smiled. "And so remarkably like us as well. Thrive in the company of others and the bonds they form and suffer in loneliness, capable of great empathy and spending time with them can quite literally heal an anxious heart." Truly, he could go on about the wonders of the creatures and some of the honest to goodness miracles he had witnessed between the horses on the ranch and visitors. "It would be my pleasure to host sometime." So, Ruby could consider that invitation wide open and she need only RSVP when ready and available.

Jericho chuckled and shook his head, the combination seeming to cause his freckles to dance upon his cheeks and around his eyes. "No judgements here. Everyone should have their preference of ice cream with no shame," he assured her with a wink as he pushed off from the table to head inside to fetch her that scoop of mint chocolate chip and settle on something for himself.

There was a little bit of a queue inside, but he was returning to their table soon enough with a scoop each in a cup. He had briefly contemplated while in the queue going back outside to ask whether she would prefer a cone, and which one, or cup but concluded soon enough that to spare them sticky fingers and a messy tabletop while they chatted. Returning to their table, his serene smile as wide as ever, Jericho passed her ice cream to her with a gentle slide across the table and slid back into his own seat with his own scoop of lemondrop sorbet. Balancing his cup on his left palm, Jericho slipped his sandals off so he could pull his feet up on to his chair. Yes, sometimes he preferred to sit as a toddler might in their seat but what was so wrong with a youthful display every now and then? His toes curled over the rim of his seat and moved his cup of ice cream on his knee while dipping his spoon in for a bite. "So, Ruby, you mentioned growing up around horses, yes? Did your family own its own ranch or was it by other accommodations that you were so blessed?"

It was likely her reaction was more so well-honed from having younger siblings, but either way, she was definitely more focused on making sure the girl was alright than dwelling on the possibility she would have ended up covered in ice cream in public. The group across the seating area was definitely foremost in her mind as well, but things had gone about as well as they could have. Minus the fallen ice cream woefully melting on the ground.

She was more concerned there had been physical injury, but she’d nodded as the girl had responded to her question. “It can happen to anyone, really”, she said with a shrug, noticing her eyeing the ground. “Would you like some more? My treat.” She had enough to replace the lost ice cream. She thought. Worst case scenario, she’d have to wait til later to finish up her shopping.

This seemed more important than schoolbooks anyway.

SHE WAS SO NICE. Eulalia thought she could cry now that the older girl had offered to replace her ice cream, but she held it in! She didn't want anything else to go wrong today, and crying seemed like it might prevent her replacement ice cream. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Lally nodded. "You really don't have to, though," she said, trying to protest a little bit because...well, the girl didn't have to. She had no responsibility for the ice cream or this dismayed twelve-year-old.

"That's really nice of you," she added. She scooped up the half-spoon's-worth of ice cream that hadn't been lost to gravity and finished it in one lick. "I just tripped over...something." A chair? Her own two feet? Who could say, not Eulalia. If she could say, that would mean she had seen what happened, and then she could have avoided tripping altogether. "I'm Lally," she added. Since the kind older girl seemed to care about being...nice.

“You can tell exactly how they are feeling just by looking into their eyes.” It had become a comfort thing in her youth to go brush a horses mane whenever she was feeling particularly anxious. Either that or take one of the numerous dogs down for a walk along the shoreline. Barefooted of course which Jericho might have been pleased to hear, she was no city girl despite now living in London. “I’d love that” A soft pink colour returned to her cheeks at the open invitation. Truly an afternoon surrounded by such company sounded ideal.

The biggest issue that Ruby had with navigating relationships as an adult was her inability to talk about herself. She was usually one to follow in a conversation rather than instigate, her listening abilities were impeccable and her empathy could only be second to her mothers. It made her particularly skilled at her career but also meant she was prone to burnout and a lack of ever putting herself first. It had taken considerable persuasion from a much more confident sister to even get her here today. The brief moment she had alone whilst Jericho moved to fetch their ice creams was filled with a replay of everything that Tabitha had said to her before leaving.

Had the conversation not slipped effortlessly over to her family, Ruby would’ve enquired more into Jericho’s fascinating collection of skills he had acquired. The shift in his position, his bare bare feet exposed and knees up to his chin brought a somewhat amused but fond smile to the former Ravenclaws face. She scooped her spoon into the tub and took a bite with instant memories of her childhood down in Cornwall flooding back to her. “It’s a bit of a long story.” she mused. It was one she was happy to tell however. “My Mum has always had a fondness for horses and grew up riding them. My Dad however is from an entirely different background and grew up quite impoverished on a council estate in Brixton. When they married my Mum decided to keep horses of her own which grew to rescuing more and eventually we had an entire stables worth of them” she chuckled. “My younger sister Holly was adopted from a similar background to my Dad’s and was so withdrawn to start with but grew in confidence once she started helping around the horses. So they decided to implement a programme for children like her at the stables. They’d learn everything from how to muck out, grooming, health care and of course riding all funded by us.” Altruism definitely ran in the family.

“Is rescuing animals a familial thing for you too?” She asked once again delving into her Mint Choc Chip.

“Is rescuing animals a familial thing for you too?” She asked once again delving into her Mint Choc Chip.

Jericho found his cheeks stretching just a bit further as she spoke and wholeheartedly agreed with everything she shared about animals. He would say that all creatures' eyes were beautiful portals into another life and another perspective of the world, but it was a bit nitpicky to say as much when they were speaking specifically to horses. Not to mention that, surely, himself and Ruby agreed upon such a thought without it needing uttered. "Absolutely," he agreed while patting his pockets a bit. "Do you still have the card I gave you at the fair? If not...I ought to have another here somewhere..." He did rarely ever leave the ranch without a couple in hand just in case. Finding one, or so he thought, he pulled it from his pocket only to laugh at his own folly. "Or I only have my dueling coach ones with me today." Which would not assist at all with any floo network or apparition point to get to the ranch, alas.

"Outstanding for I have plenty of time to listen," he encouraged while scooping another spoonful into his mouth and sucked it clean while she began elaborating. And it truly was a touching tale, one that resonated with him profoundly and was quite the coincidence they they had both found their way into the same altruistic lifestyle in which creatures, horses, played such a significant part in the healing process. "Beautiful," he spoke softly, his eyes looking at her as though he were seeing sunshine for the first time. "Such a deeply personal story your family has to lead you to where you are today, not only with equestrian hospitality but into the field of healing as well," he admired, trying not to let the business and potential partnership between ranches take over his thoughts. The job fair had been all about business and networking, today was meant to be a meeting of the auras. "And, in your spare time, you enjoy a cup of ice cream for a bit of self indulgence," he mused while balancing his cup on his knee and licking his spoon clean before dropping it into the cup once again. This, naturally, provoked several follow up questions but he would save those for another moment.

"Somewhat," he chuckled as he traced a circle with his finger upon his other knee. "Ned and Loretta discovered they were an infertile couple early on in their relationship and rather than rely on healers to expand their family, they decided to foster and, in my case, adopt. There were five of us, myself the youngest, and while we all came from different places we considered one another brother and sister...Ned and Loretta our dad and mum. We also had a Leonberger dog named Avalon who, if you are familiar with the tale of Peter Pan, was very much our Nana. So we grew up understanding the way in which creatures and ourselves can mend and care for one another and they did foster kittens and puppies in a similar manner to help us as your parents did your sister. And...it expanded from there to what it is now," he explained, pride and affection embracing every word he spoke and yet there was a somber undertone between the breaths he took.

Ruby wasn’t conversationally awkward but having a flowing conversation where she didn’t just sit back and listen rather than drive the topic of interest was difficult for her. Ever the shoulder to lean on, most ‘meetings’ she had were particularly one sided. Yet with Jericho she didn’t appear to have a problem and it felt oddly natural. Maybe it was the sugar from the ice cream mixing with the adrenaline she had from actually going through with it? Whatever it was, listening to Jericho speak of his creatures and his career with such passion was endearing. “I’m sure I still have it at home somewhere.” It was likely pinned up on her noticeboard. “Unfortunately I did not make a good dueller at school but thankfully my career didn’t need that particular skill.” She was too much of a pacifist to feel that she needed to either although watching her brothers partake in the sport had been a thrill.

The pride that Ruby had for her parents' altruistism was second to none. “I couldn’t take it for granted how lucky I was to have such a privileged upbringing. The least I can do is offer my time and services back to the community.” Whether that was by volunteering her time at the stables or through her tireless work as a Mediwitch. “Rarely” she admitted shyly. “I admit that I don’t allow much time for self-indulgence. It’s something that my sister has been trying to encourage over the years.” Her limit was a walk along the beach at her parents house or a quick hack across the moorland on one of the horses every few months or so.

The similarities between their familial backgrounds was not lost on the former Ravenclaw. In fact listening to Jericho recall his own childhood had her heart fluttering just the slightest. They both had parents, albeit Ruby’s was biological but at the end of the day that was insignificant, whose hearts were wide enough to integrate others into their family. Their parents also used animals as a way to heal lost souls and the caring nature was obviously inherited by the children. Or rather by most in Ruby’s case, she couldn’t really speak on behalf of her brothers who seemed to lack the empathetic gene. “That sounds as if you had a wonderful childhood.” After being fostered she meant for he didn’t disclose the reason he was in the system in the first place. “Instilling those values onto children helps to encourage such beautiful human beings in later life.” Not that she was calling him beautiful.. but not that she didn’t think he was beautiful.

“Did they encourage you to walk around barefooted too?” she giggled, an attempt at flirtatious teasing which she hoped was obvious enough as it didn’t come naturally to her.
