Default Atticus' Attic Music Shop

Upon opening the door to Atticus' Attic, you will be met with the sound of Wizarding bands both new and old being piped through the whole store. Step inside and you'll find yourself among a sea of Music Tables boasting thousands of albums from artists both Magic and Muggle on any medium you aspire to find. Vinyl records, cassette tapes, compact discs, and 8-track tapes, along with the appropriate devices to play all of these things, paired with large over-ear headphones, can be found at each table. And though many of the tables are dedicated to well-known Muggle recording formats, a fair amount of them are also dedicated to "item albums" as well. Small boxes bearing a band and album name litter these tables, and inside are items the size of a knut, varying in colour and shape dependent on the box's label. A single tap with a wand will cause the album to begin to play aloud or the album can also be stuck behind the ear to be played privately, so as to not disturb others.

At the back of the shop, you might notice the door tucked off to the right side with a shiny plaque marking the room beyond as "The Recording Booth". Inside you'll find a very large, enchanted soundboard and a plethora of various sound equipment. A sign on the wall asks that you please not touch the soundboard, as it is a very delicate piece of technology. The wide room is complete with several microphone stands scattered throughout and many enchanted instruments, waiting to be played by hand or charmed to life. You'll find that any artist entering the room will have their music or vocals magically isolated by careful charms laid out by the shopkeeper. Time in this booth can be booked in advance and walk-ins are also accepted on basis of availability.

Set along the back wall of the shop is an area devoted specifically to displaying the various band merchandise offered up for sale. The wall is lined completely with T-shirts, stacks of which can be found in cube shelving beneath, along with an assortment of band-related hoodies. A few tables bear a hodge-podge of items to be browsed: band logo jewelry, keychains, posters, and sturdy white cardboard boxes filled with music-related magazines, each labeled on the front with the magazine's name, are just a few of the treasures you’ll find here. Whatever your musical needs, Atticus's Attic is sure have what you're searching for.

Walking around the stacks of vinyls, he stopped every so often to flick though a few, only to huff in annoyance at how so many of them were in the wrong place. He’d been gone, what, a few months, maybe even a year and the shop had already fallen into chaos? Shaking his head, former employee picked a few of the vinyls from the pile he was looking at and started walking around the shop, dropping a few off here and there in the right place as he did so.

Things had been so much easier then than now of course, something he almost found himself missing, but it did him no good to reminisce. Today, he was here for one reason and one reason only, to see if they had the single that he’d worked on in stock. He’d heard word that there was a limited number of vinyls that had been released and that a few of them had made their way here because he’d requested them and he wanted to see if they’d made their way in. As he walked around however, his eyes drifted to one of the few people in the shop who was looking at some of the new released (Oli).

Dropping the last of the misplaced vinyls, he headed over to the new releases where the guy was and began flicking through the limited selection of new vinyls. “Good luck finding what you’re looking for,” he grumbled, a small smile on his lips as now as he found the cover for the single. “Everything is in the wrong place, except for this, apparently.” Pulling the cover of the vinyl out, he looked at the cover, his eyes drinking in every detail as though it was some kind of lost gem.
Sipping his coffee, Olivier's eyes lighted on the man who entered the shop not long after him, curious as to what on Earth he was doing. Causing chaos by rearranging the stock, for a laugh? Maybe - he knew a few people who would find that an amusing past time. It didn't occur to him that he was fixing the chaos until he spoke, and Oli's eyebrows raised slightly in surprise. "Oh, I'm sure the staff are really busy, or it's some kids idea of a joke..." he offered with an awkward smile, unsure as to why he felt the need to defend the shops organisation. Something about needing to defend things when they couldn't defend themselves, probably - no doubt something his therapist would like to talk to him about.

He was about to resume his search when he realised what the other guy was holding - that was it! "Is there another copy of that?" he asked, hands stilling on the vinyls he was flicking through. Honestly, it would be just his luck that he didn't manage to get the last copy of something.

Spencer couldn’t help but laugh at the mans words of the stanger giving them the benefit of the doubt. Bless him. “I guess you could be right,” which whilst totally plausible, somehow didn’t fit with how he viewed the place. Maybe he was just remembering it without those rose tinted glasses that those who hadn’t worked there had when observing the place from the outside. Then again, it was also entirely possible that he was just being a little too harsh as well. Truthfully, he did kind of miss the place. “Don’t worry, I put them all in the right places.” he added at the end, just in case the guy thought he was messing with the place intentionally.

Turning to the guy, his expression shifted to that of bewilderment as the boy asked for the vinyl he was holding. It was a slightly surreal moment, being asked by someone for a copy of the song that he wrote and as such, he took slightly longer to reply that he usually would have.

“uhh…I don’t think so. I think this could be the last one honestly. I don’t think they ordered a large amount of them,” which wasn’t exactly surprising seeing as no one could have predicted how well it would do, least of all him. “You can have this one if you want though,” holding out the last copy of the vinyl. Rather surprisingly, it wasn’t even that hard for him.

"Maybe they should give you a job." Olivier offered a small smile as he joked, though he did immediately regret it. He wasn't a joker per se, and more often than not his attempts at humour fell flat, but he forced himself not to look away in embarrassment.

Wondered, for a moment, why the man looked so... perplexed? Disorientated? But brushed it away, because really it wasn't his place to say anything, and knowing him he was probably reading it wrong anyway. But he did look between his face and the vinyl, and when the man held it out to him she shook his head. "No, I couldn't. Not if it's the last copy. You found it first." He smiled to reassure him. "I'm sure I can find it elsewhere."

Hearing that he should get a job here, the sandy-haired man laughed a little, shaking his head. “Oh, I used to work here. It was actually pretty good honestly so if you ever need a place to work, I’d recommend it,” because despite all of his complaining, he actually did enjoy the place. That being said, he did love music and being surrounded by so many records, it made his nerdy little heart skip a beat.

With a small smile and a shake of the head, Spencer continued to hold it out. He would have shoved it in the guys hands if he knew him better but as he didn’t he’d have to settle for holding it out. “Nah bro, you take it. I’ll just grab a copy from work. They usually have a copy or two spare. Honestly, I should have just grabbed one from there but it’s just more fun buying it from a store.” One thing he was always proud of was trying to support independent music stores. Putting it down flat on the edge of the rack, he took a small step away. “Seriously, I insist.”

Olivier felt a pink flush creep up over his cheeks as the man answered. Now he probably sounded like some kind of weird stalker, or something. Or maybe the man would think him a Seer, though Oli had never had much time for Divination.

Or, said the little voice in the back of his head, the one that always reminded him of his sister when he needed to be taken down a peg or two, he doesn't really think anything of it at all.

It was a somewhat unnerving yet slightly reassuring take, and Olivier managed to keep his small smile alive. "I think I'd be a bit lost, but it's always nice to hear ex-employees talk positively." Merlin only knew his job would be a lot easier if corporations managed to keep their staff happier - walking in to consult on a place that reeked of despair was disheartening, to say the least.

"If you're sure..." Olivier took the record tentatively. "Thank you, I really appreciate it. My sister's had it on repeat since it came out - anyone would think it was about her," he couldn't help trying to joke a little.

Fortunately for the flushing Olivier, he had been too busy looking around the shop reminiscing on the many days he’d wasted organising the albums, or he may have commented on the pink tinge that was creeping across his cheeks. As it was however, he only looked back when a reply came.

With a small laugh, he nodded and grinned back at the bloke before replying. “Yeah? Do people not say good things about this place? Or were you just talking generally?” he asked somewhat curiously. As amusing as it would be to hear that someone had complained about him, part of him also didn’t actually care. Truthfully, it wouldn’t have been surprising if some of his ex-bandmates had put in a complaint or two just to see if they could get him kicked out.

“Yeah?” he asked, a little bemused by this now. Of course, he knew that people were listening to the song or it wouldn’t still be climbing the charts, but it almost blew his mind to hear it from actual people. Shuffling from one foot to another, grinning a little too smugly, he nodded to himself more than the bloke opposite and continued.

“I mean, songs like these, they’re about real life I guess. Aimed at as many people as possible to sell, y’know?” Pausing for a second, he frowned slightly as his words actually sunk in. Knowing how much this song hurt him to listen to, it almost hurt him to hear that someone had actually identified with it so much that they thought it was about them. In reality, it was about someone but no one actually who.

“Maybe go check on your sister,” he added at the end with a small laugh. “This isn’t the best song to identify with,” his words light and teasing, even if he actually meant them.
