Study Hall

In close proximity to the library lies the study hall. Whether you are a first year or a seventh year, a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, a boy or a girl, this room is the best place to go for your studying and homework completion needs. If you ever find yourself stuck on something or have no clue what you're doing, you can always ask those who you are studying with for help or the professor that is overseeing the study session.

Scattered around the room are groups of desks that make it perfect for you and your friends to collaboratively work together. Average-sized oil lamps have been strategically placed on the desks to create a calm, comfortable environment. In a neat pile in the centre of the desks are extra quills, bottles of ink, and spare parchment should you need it -- just remember to leave the quills and ink at the table and only use what you need for parchment. Under the windows a long bookshelf containing a copy of textbooks for each class can be found, which you are welcome to use during your time in this room.

One free period, Ignacio could be found in the Study Hall. He'd finished his homework, though, and instead had surrounded himself with information leaflets. Leaflets about different universities, different courses on offer, different internships and careers... Every potential pathway after Hogwarts that had a relevant leaflet meant that the leaflet had been collected and was now in front of Ignacio Salgado-Ramirez.

Not that it was helping at all. He still had no idea what he wanted to do after graduation, and for the last ten minutes he'd had his head in his hands, staring at a leaflet about Ministry of Magic jobs without seeing it.

Much like... whatever his name was over there, Edric was also having a bit of an existential crisis. He came to this study hall regularly, did his best to study and stay focused, but sometimes the quiet was... too quiet. He had a bad habit of zoning out on a good day, in an engaging class, but ESPECIALLY zoned out in study hall. He might have even looked like he was staring, shellshocked, at the lad across the table from him.

Wow, like that Ministry leaflet was SHOCKING or something, or so Ed looked.

Ten minutes or so after putting the Ministry leaflet on the top of the pile, Ignacio looked up from it. It remained unopened, of course, the front page staring up at him just as he'd been staring it a moment earlier. Stretching his arms above his head, it was as a shoulder made a satisfying pop that he turned and noticed that someone else seemed to find the leaflet even more... fascinating? intriguing? completely shocking? than he had.

Ignacio picked the paper up and waved it in front of the boys face. "Helloooo. Earth to.... you?"

Edric visibly JUMPED when the other boy spoke to him. He also snorted as though he were waking up, even though his big peepers had been perfectly open all along...

Author's note: He's just a Grade A weirdo, what can I say.

He blinked a few thousand more times and finally opened his mouth to reply to the boy. "Hey Earth, sup. Ed here." Ed might've even grinned at that one. He was so clever. It was really quite amazing he hadn't been Sorted into Ravenclaw like this chap. "So are you... applying there?" He nodded to the leaflet. The boy had to be his age, if not older. Good time to think about future plans, which he himself had been doing a lot of lately.

That was some reaction. Ignacio briefly wondered if the kid had been sleeping with his eyes open - it was way more common than people actually realised, after all. About twenty percent of people were known to do it, if he remembered correctly, and by the time he'd finished that train of thought the boy was speaking to him and...

The joke fell flat, but Ignacio offered a smile anyway, never one to obviously try and make someone feel uncomfortable. "Ed, right. I'm Ignacio," he managed, dropping the leaflet back onto his pile even as the question fell. "Who knows, Ed, who knows?" Ig shrugged, opening it up finally and leaning back in his chair. "Dunno what I'm gonna apply to, to be quite honest."

And the clock was ticking. Loudly.

Ed kept this thought to himself, though, as Iggy didn't seem the joking type. Nor even the nickname type.

"You're a seventh year?" he inquired politely, since the boy seemed to be in a contemplative mood. "Surely you have a best subject to pursue or study further.... I don't even have that."

Interestingly, Ig usually was the joking type. And very much so the nickname type, but all this stress about leaving school had seemingly dampened his mood of late. When he wasn't studying for NEWTs (which, admittedly, he was late to the party on anyway), he was worrying about what he was going to do when they were over.

"Yeah, I'm a seventh year." He chuckled a little at the assumption, and then proceeded to shake his head. "Not a one. I'm not great at anything, nor do I find any one thing particularly interesting." And that was what made this whole situation difficult.

If only there was a career path for people who knew that a jiffy was an actual unit of time, and that Japan had over 200 flavours of KitKat.
