Fat Lady's Portrait https://i.postimg.cc/RCj4PRyG/fat-la...ait-banner.jpg If you're wandering around the seventh-floor corridor and you suddenly have the urge to cover your ears, you know you're steadily approaching the Fat Lady's portrait. While it isn't an uncommon fact that the vocal portrait guards the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room, getting past the Fat Lady without the correct password is no easy feat. Her passion for tip-top security is just as great as her love for good food and drink. |
Kate and Arden! <3 Why, why, whyyyyyyy did her memory have to be so TERRIBLE!? She'd been told the password for the common room like... just DAYS go. How could she not know it already!? With a loud SIGH, exaggerated and specifically projected to echo down the hall, Vera plopped herself down on the ground opposite the Fat Lady and sighed dramatically again. But the second time, really only because she liked the way the noise revereberated throughout the corridor. Which made her just want to make more noise. The pirate songs were getting a little old, even to her, so instead she decided that in her boredom while she apparently was going to have to just sit here and wait... why not entertain herself in the mean time? Taking a deep breath, she opened her mouth and let out the loudest sound she could muster. "YODEL LAY HEE WHOOOOOOOOOOOO." |
Arden felt like she was being HIT with the yodeling as she approached the Fat Lady; who was it and WHY? The culprit was none other than Vera, the second year in Arden's house that she found funny, exciting, and a potential friend. It wasn't that Arden often made enemies, but seeing as she had recently inadvertently ticked off two older students, she was feeling much more sympathetic toward the younger ones. And Vera was one of them! "YOOODELLLLL LAAAAAAY HEEEEE WHOOOO!" she called back, making a cone around her mouth with her hands to reaaaaally project her voice. Her feet carried her toward the portrait hole even faster, and she came to a HOP!STOP in front of her. "Why are you yodeling in front of the Fat Lady? Are you trying to find someone?" Was it a code? A CODE YODEL didn't sound smart. Everyone would know your code soon enough. That's why Arden was sincerely hoping that wasn't it. |
She'd been positively DELIGHTED hearing the return yodel, assuming she'd just managed to get a good echo in the corridor. Except for the fact it was an entirely different voice, and a lot of the sounds were drawn out more than Vera had. It didn't take long to realize from there someone ANSWERED her call, which was actually even better. Pushing herself off the ground, she'd just stood when Arden HOPPED in front of her and Ve beamed at the older girl. Had she spent a lot of time around Arden? No. But the feast and other moments of observing older students told her that she very much vibed with the temperament and personalities of both Arden and Hooper, so the older girl was a very welcomed sight. Also, a Gryffindor in general was welcomed since they'd probably know the password. But she would still say ESPECIALLY Arden. "Is yodeling used for finding people? Is that why they do it?? I just always kind of assumed it was because the originals yodelers liked to make noise. And maybe were often bored!" Which... hint hint, that was definitely her reason. "I wasn't looking for anyone specific! But I DO want to get into the common room and I ... cannot remember the password. Do YOU know it?" |
Arden didn't actually know if anyone used yodeling for finding people, but she was assuming it COULD be used for it if one WANTED to use it that way. But that seemed like a lot to explain to the excitable Vera, so Arden didn't give her all the internal monologue. What she did know is that yodeling had to be used for more than just making noise? She'd have to look the answer up. Maybe in the library. Maybe on the internet at home. "Um. If the ancient yodelers were trying to just make loud noises, I guess they succeeded. But were YOU doing it just for fun?" she asked with a semi-chuckle, her light eyes brightening the more she spoke to Vera. "I do remember it................" and she smirked some more. "But if I tell you the password, then you won't need me anymore!" Arden was totally teasing. "Shall we head inside together, then?" |
"HIGH ON A HILL WAS A LONELY GOATHERD..." You yodelled? Enter Peeves, from far down the end of the corridor, determined to deliver his unruly gifts to as many delightful little students as he could but never too busy to be drawn towards disruption, noise, and chaos. Also angst. The Gryffindors usually had at least one going on. Also, he'd brought his book. He screeched to a halt just before the old girl's portrait, and turned his evil grin to the wee ickle lions lingering outside of it. "LaY-eE-oDL-LaY-eE-OdL-LaY-HeE-HOO!" Flipping the pages during his rendition, he flung some surreptitious magic - a gift! - towards the one girl (Vera) on the final hoo. As things of great import were often performed. |
Vera would not have put any galleons down on yodeling being anything more than noise. Wasn't the typical cartoons just... a guy on a hill yelling out? Other than just being LOUD what else could that be used for??? Hoping sound would bounce back off a wall or something? Did sound even WORK like that? "I was DEFINITELY just doing it for fun! Getting to just... holler at the top of your throat is so freeing, isn't it!?" Until a Professor wandered around the corner and probably pulled out some type of rule about being a disturbance. That should probably have been her middle name. "Where are you coming back from?" A small giggle burst from the girl at the older's tease, as she gave a few more hops closer towards the Fat Lady's portrait. "I might not neeeeed you but we could still hang out if you have time?" Did Vera know what to do with a COOL older girl? No, not at all. BUT hopefully just being in Arden's proximity would have some of the awesome rubbing off on her. With any luck anyways! But she was interrupted in that thought by the arrival of the LEGEND that was Peeves the Poltergeist. Her idol really. How AWESOME it must have been to be able to just... go around and do whatever you wanted, prank ALL the people and have little to no consequences! Ugh, what a life Peevsie must have lived! AND the fact he was joining their yodeling just was further making Vera's list of TOP Hogwarts moments. She wondered if she could ever get him to collude with her on a prank!? For now... she should probably be more concerned with the fact he was seemingly throwing a book at her... Though, actually he didn't let go of it. What in the world was he even DOING? She immediately lifted her hand up to her hair to check for any swamp water, like his LAST appearance, but she certainly didn't feel anything. |
