Let's face it. I have the best intentions when it comes to making art. Not only is it my joy, but it's also my livelihood. But I also have shiny object syndrome and I have a difficult time finishing what I start. I get very excited about starting a project and I'm normally pretty ambitious about ideas and what I want to create. But before I'm halfway through something I have another exciting idea I want to try. And who can blame me? With all the amazing inspiration and creative ideas out there, there is always something I want to do next. And I'm often too impatient to wait, so I'm on to something else, intending to still finish what I started... maybe later. Couple my shiny object syndrome with all the things that keep me busy in a day, and... well.. all my unfinished artwork could fill a museum no one wants to visit.
......but I have good intentions.
This is my third year joining in on Seektober and I have yet to complete an entire month. But I am ambitious enough to think that this is the year!! I will once again work on the Aparecium challenge, completing whichever prompt that day speaks to me most. I might try to use my characters as inspiration and it's my intention to use pen and ink, maybe with a pop of color in another medium.

CELYN! uuuuuuuuuuuuh....I think I am officially obsessed with this one. The colors on those flowers and the composition and how their vibrancy frames the bench and just...wow. It's...perfect? Perfect. IT'S PERFECT.

I hope you take these warm words to heart.
Oh I really do take those words to heart, thanks so much! I really appreciate all the lovely compliments. Lol I think Celyn would sit there with Forrest too and patiently listen to all his stories. Thanks, the tap shoes were one of my favorites, even though it was one of the more simple designs.

Love the palette here too... I'd like to see one of those magical portraits in progress.
Even if you don't finish, you've done a LOT and every single one has been pretty marvelous.
I'm sorry Thank you, I imagine it's a pretty cool process. Thanks! I really hope I can get done though. Really pushing through!

Aww thanks. I really like how it turned out too. One that turned out pretty closely to how I envisioned it.
Day 16: Cursed Albus Dumbledore
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Cursed
Rhett Kavanaugh is convinced he is cursed. To be fair, a lot of that is likely his friend Mitsuki's influence as she has told him as much. But it really comes down to him being clumsy, careless, and/or unobservant. Untied shoelaces fall under one of those categories and that is usually why he is tripping - and not because he is cursed.

ughhhhhhhhh soooooo goooooooooood! ALL THE THINGS ARE SO GOOD! I wish I had half the talent you have <3
Thanks, Suzy <3
Day 17: Calm Albus Dumbledore Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Calm
Delaney Finnegan exudes calm - or at least that is what he would like people to believe. His outwardly demeanor is the picture of calm, but what goes on inside may or may not be the same. It's hard to tell. He is often found with a cup of coffee, calmly reading the Daily Prophet, and leisurely working out game statistics in his ledger, so I thought that scene would be fitting for him and this prompt. I think the blue shirt lends itself to the feeling of calm as well.

Day 18: Dragon Albus Dumbledore
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Dragon
This did not turn out quite like I had envisioned it.. but that happens, I guess. This prompt is for my free-spirited artist, Xanthe Walker. She enjoys painting mostly abstract images on places where she's not supposed to - graffiti and the like, under the idea that dull walls and corners could use a little excitement. I imagine she could have painted an abstract sort of dragon on a wall in an out of the way place while at Hogwarts. It was meant to look like it was put together with bursts of spray paint color and it didn't really turn out the way I pictured it. But she is a fan of the rainbow colors.

more shoes! MORE HANDS!!!!!!!!! you're a genius. But I love love love this rainbow graffiti dragon. I think it's amazing.
You are too kind to me Thank you
Day 19: Yellow Pomona Sprout
Ink Pen, Posca Pen, and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Yellow
“Look at the stars, look how they shine for you..” I know there is not a speck of yellow in this drawing, but the prompt Yellow made me think of the Coldplay song by the same name. It was Ethan and Minerva’s song while they were at Hogwarts so I thought it was the perfect prompt for them. The lyrics make me think of a romantic kind of stargazing between a couple and that’s what I attempted here.

Day 20: Hogwarts Albus Dumbledore
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Hogwarts
I drew this prompt for Regina De La Garza who never got to go to Hogwarts. Sure, she received her letter when she was 11, but because of traumatic experiences her mother had there and her father’s distrust of the institution, she was not permitted to go. She ended up going to Castelobruxo as her family had a second home in Brazil and then ended up moving there permanently a bit later, but she never gave up wanting to go to Hogwarts with her cousins and friends. Here is her Hogwarts letter that she still keeps as a memento.

Day 21: Flutterby Bush Pomona Sprout
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Flutterby Bush
Not technically a flutterby bush here, but of course they make me think of butterflies and so naturally my thoughts went to Noémi Durand Upstead. She has a love and admiration for butterflies, both symbolically and in nature. She is a kind and gentle woman, and it would not surprise me to see a butterfly drawn to her in this way and landing lightly on her fingers. Just a simple and delicate little drawing here, just like Noémi is.

You really ARE plugging along here, MJ even if you don't have time to finish your final prompts, this is the furthest along in any Seektober that you have come and that is a HUGE accomplishment
'Cursed' gave me a good laugh and Mitsuki remains unapologetic because, well, she still believes it to be true maybe they can try some ~remedies~ later
The composition for 'calm' is like...so stunning! It is like a panel in a comic and that is a really pretty color blue (to which some people are bringing up how irritatingly in one case much it brings out the color of his eyes. I won't shout at you about hands again...but...YOU KNOW. Also the papers??? How nicely those fall and just...I really like this one.
Xanthe I echo Ro wholeheartedly. It's really fun and...it needs to be somewhere in Diagon Alley, okay?
'yellow' is so peaceful. I really like this style of shadow art. I am sure there is some official name for it...but the shadow against a colored sky trend...thingy. I think it is so lovely.
Regina that is such a heart wrenching and warming story behind the piece. Pretty in awe at how you captured the crest as well as the writing in the letter itself.
AGAIN. HANDS. FINGERS 'flutterby bush' is really really nice and I adore the wings of your butterfly. The color perfectly encapsulates Noémi (so says Jaecar who does compare her to cool tones) and it is a very cute little piece.

Yes! But I am SO close! Idk if I can finish the rest in just a couple hours lol, but I am really, really trying haha.
Funnily enough, Rhett would probably go along with these remedies. Somehow he really trusts that Mitsuki knows what she is talking about. I think Calm is my favorite out of the ones I've done.. and Delaney is very smug lmao. Thanks so much for all your kind words and compliments <3 Aww Noémi does happen to like blues and purples best, but that is fitting that Jaecar thinks of her with those colors too.
Day 22: Silver Severus Snape
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Silver
Silver can also be known as second place or second best and so I originally took that concept as inspiration for the prompt. Andi Rourke comes from a very difficult background and though she has managed to rise above her circumstances, she has always seen herself as not quite as good as others, even if this is an insecurity she would never admit to. Being muggleborn, and especially facing prejudice because of it during the Neo Alliance rise, really pushed that point for her too. Currently she works as a bartender at the Leaky Cauldron and she knows she is not made for bigger and better things, but I suppose she is happy enough where she is. Then when I decided to use her job as inspiration for this prompt, I ended up using a silver drink and figure this is a drink that she invented - the Occamy Egg.

Day 23: Grey Albus Dumbledore
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Grey
I've considered Eivan Blaze to be a morally grey character, though probably a dark grey lol. But he is who came to mind when I was considering the prompt for grey. This imagery of a skull as a candle holder is totally him and I can see him incorporating it into his room or office.

Day 24: Duel Albus Dumbledore
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Duel
I'm just gonna try to sneak in a couple more since I'm so close..
This prompt is for Nicolas d’Avignon, my Beauxbatons child who tries desperately to get his father’s approval. His father would prefer that Nicolas take up magical dueling rather than this non-magique version called fencing, but Nico finds this to be much more sophisticated and is really good at it. He hopes by winning his competitions that he makes his father proud anyway. I went for another silhouette type of drawing with sunset colors in the background.

Day 25: Ethereal Albus Dumbledore
Ink Pen, Colored Pencil, and Gel Pen
SPOILER!!: Ethereal
The word ethereal makes me think of ghosts. I don’t know if the actual definition aligns with that so much, but maybe the airy, delicate visual of a transparent ghost does. So my thoughts went to Hope Hamilton, my peculiar child who is able to see the spirit world. Sometimes she visits cemeteries or even has picnics there. Here she is picnicking at one, hanging out with a poorly drawn ghost and just a hint of color since it is ethereal after all.

Day 26: Protective Minerva McGonagall
Ink Pen, Posca Pen, and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Protective
Protective is for Remington Marchbanks, the oldest of the Marchbanks siblings. I do see her as pretty protective of her younger brothers. She just wants the best for them, wants them to get along, and was really worried about Benjee being without his siblings at Hogwarts once she and Brandon graduated. Though none of them are at Hogwarts any longer, one of her favorite places to hang out with her brothers was the Astronomy tower, and when they were all there together it felt like they were all in their own little protective bubble to her.

Day 27: Badger Pomona Sprout
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Badger
Just a little badger, but it reminds me of my former Hufflepuff Tashina Youngbird. Badgers give me the impression of appearing soft and cuddly, but actually being fierce and unfriendly. Tashina wasn’t exactly friendly and had a personality that only a few really understood. It always made me laugh when people questioned why she was a Hufflepuff when they were under the apparent impression that Hufflepuffs were meant to be friendly. I’m not sure that is an actual Hufflepuff trait, but I do know that Hufflepuff takes anyone and everyone - “Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest, and taught them all she knew.”

Day 29: Lonely/Solitude Severus Snape
Ink Pen, Gel Pen, and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Lonely/Solitude
It can be lonely being a werewolf. Viggo Bergstrand was bitten as a teenager while at Durmstrang. He’d always been something of a loner back then, but this made it even more so as he’d keep himself in solitude a few days every month to ensure he didn’t attack anyone himself. He started playing guitar fairly young, before he was bitten, and has been working as a busker for years. He’s held several other part-time odd jobs as well, but work permanency has proven a little difficult for him. Still, he always goes back to playing guitar on the street for public entertainment and a handful of coins. My gel pen was not being all that cooperative for me here.

Day 30: Herbivicus Pomona Sprout
Ink Pen and Colored Pencil
SPOILER!!: Herbivicus
My last prompt is for my former Ministry character Raini Youngbird. One of his specialties is respectfully summoning the natural magic from Mother Earth and in return he is very passionate about conservation efforts. He plants trees wherever he can and knows that it all starts with just a seed. Or in this case, a seedling.
And I'm done! I might be a day late, but I did it! I finished! I feel so accomplished

Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee
Bud, you did it! Congrats! And I'm so impressed by the thought that went into matching each prompt to a character and then the story that comes out of that. The doodles themselves are so well executed, and I continue to enjoy this concept of a mostly pen and ink sketch with just a little color. Except the silhouettes, which were a lot of color, but still very lovely.
haaaaands again, and ugh, right in the feelings with your blood pact prompt. mad at you. and your herbology prompt is so pretty, it works beautifully with the simple-ish line work for the bench plus the vibrant colours of the plants. one of my favourites I think. meanwhile you should know you hurt my feelings x2 with that tabby cat prompt. his face ;; those eyes ;;;; but the detailing on that wood, dang. you have patience.
I remember the make an entrance sign love the shading you've got in those shoes, and so vibrant! and I'm in love with the details in your portrait prompt, in the brush and wand and the little shadows and *-* also, your cursed prompt for Rhett made me laugh, poor kid. someone needs to permanently tie that boy's laces or get him some velcro shoes. the softness of the blue in ~calm~ is perfect, especially for the prompt word. i particularly love how this piece is framed, and the movement of the newspaper pages
and you KNOW I am captivated by that dragon. RAINBOW DRAGON. it's beautiful, and I also gotta know what coloured pencils you use (prismacolor?). that piece for yellow is gorgeous too, the depth and richness of those blues, and I love the way the blue and black works together. also, regina bby ;; the way you did the fake writing on that letter is so perfect lol, this is such a nice piece and the story behind it is so sweet
another haaaand. the way you've added the colour to that butterfly is so pretty and the entire prompt gives such gentle vibes which seems to me like it fits noémi perfectly. and we love a mention of andi too, bless that bean (there go my feelings again). that drink looks so neat, and I want it. your piece for grey is so cool, I just love that whole aesthetic and you've caputered it so nicely here.
duel kind of blew me away a little because I was not expecting all the colour and then THERE IT WAS. such a great job on the sunset gradient here, and the silhouettes stand out beautifully against it. another fave for sure.
your ethereal piece is so *-* I love the lines on that tree and the way the whole piece really is like... ethereal lol. and you once again hit me straight in the feelings with your protective prompt T-T those astro siblings, also really enjoy how you've drawn that telescope. and !!! cupcake with rainbow sprinkles, sign me up honestly. that badger is incredible, the detailing in there is amazing and the texture of the fur is so good.
I remember viggo! poor kid. I am once again amazing by how well you draw hands, especially when they are holding things, and all the angles involved with the body and guitar too. and finally. the seedling. idk why this is making me feel things but it absolutely is. I really do love the contrast of that colour with the soil here, and the little details within the part coloured green. so good.
oops just saw how long that got sorry not sorry. your fault not mine.
congratulations on completing seektober!!! you were right after all, this was the year. I've loved looking at your art as always ;;
