Default Cassirin Is Being Sketchy

Hi, babes. I'm Ern, and this is my SECOND year attempting to complete Seektober (note: I completed all 30 last year!). Last year was such a fun experience that I've been creating art almost every day since then. I work primarily with ink and watercolor, and as tempting as it is to experiment with other mediums, I'll probably stick to my old favorites.

Last year, I was just happy to create something every day, but this year, I want to stretch myself by not sticking with safe things I know I can draw or paint. SO things might be ugly, but at least you'll know I'm challenging myself.

I'm doing the Aparecium challenge and I'll use the word search just to randomize the fun.

I think that green forest turned out really cool! I can see how difficult the layering would be. But you did awesome!

I love the heart and all that it represents Family and heritage and celebrating that heritage is so important

I'm glad you think the forest turned out okay because I"m furious at it. I thought it would be so coooool. Yeah. Definitely going to have to try again. I'll keep you posted.

I like how the heart turned out TOO. I sort of want to create something bigger, maybe to frame?

My brain is working in mysterious ways. I mean, like it legitimately is frightening me. Or maybe I'm inspired? I don't know. Anyway, the prompt today is "Ottery St. Catchpole" (Luna's list), and... yeah. Meet the patron saint of jousting otters.

SPOILER!!: ottery

And the next broken brain prompt is "Dumbledore's Army" (Ginny's list). As always, I came at this prompt all sideways - I've read that Dumbledore's name comes from some antiquated word for 'bumblebee'. Please meet my ferocious bumblebee army!

SPOILER!!: da army

STOP THE PRESS AND MAIL ME THAT OTTER. Please. UGH I LOVE IT SO MUCH. IT'S WEARING A HAT. AND I LOVE HATS. I'M 31 AND STILL TRYING TO MAKE HATS HAPPEN.

but yes, many years ago, I, too, read that Dumbledore translates to Bumblebee or something like that. I did love that about him.

That is not a HAT, Roro. That is a saintly corona of light. But I'm glad you love the otter and I truly believe that you can make hats happen. Even at the ripe old age of... whatever.

This prompt is "ginger" (Ginny's list). I didn't want to draw a nobbly ginger root or Ginger from Gilligan's Island or a squashy-faced ginger cat. I mean, I wanted to draw all those things, but I also didn't, you feel me? Google showed me that the red ginger has a really beautiful bright crimson flower, and I had some immediate thoughts about how I'd like to try to paint it. So. FLOWER.

SPOILER!!: ginger

Your response to the Nagini prompt is beautiful, as is the piece itself! I love the details on the treasure chest and the coloring on all of those canonballs are perfection!

Also, the prettiest Quibbler boat. The subtle colors in this one as well really make the whole thing pop.

Your swaddled swallow is the cutest of little bubs. He looks pretty comfy cozy, and again, the colors on him are beautiful. The whole thing compliments so well.

The blend of all of those colors on diary. It's so beautiful I can't. I am forever impressed with your mastery of watercolor. imo, it's one of the most aesthetically pleasing mediums and you handle it so brilliant. I LOVE looking at all of your water colors SO much, and this one was absolutely no exception. The details in the doodles over it are such a beautiful addition.

And the radish pupper!!

Mushrooms and pumpkins are some of my favorite art subjects too, so I'm so pleased to see both of these! And once again, they're stunning. The blends on the pumpkin is so realistic.

Nessie! Such a fun perspective for this prompt! The prairie dog also looks like a really cute prairie dog snowglobe. I can almost envision little flurries floating around his head in these piece! It's just so cute!

I love those herbology plants with my whole heart. They're beautiful and the detail in them! *__* The only guess I have on what they are is the purple looks like lavender, but I'm also so terrible with plants I also feel like I'm entirely wrong. Enjoying the look of it regardless!

The bears, omg. When is the book about these adorable creatures coming out!? I'd like to buy 10 advance copies, thank you.

The broken remembrall is also SO aesthetically pleasing. I love the hue of that red!

The feather *____* It's my new favorites. The colors, the ink splotch (I will never love these less!!!) The whole thing is just so pleasing to look at.

The different greens all together and the layering is beautiful for the green prompt! The grandmother prompt is also stunning, and I love the history behind it. Pieces are so especially fun to make when there's the emotional connection to them!

Can I also request a book about that adorable otter? omg, he's so cute! The bees are also SO cute in your DA prompt piece, but those beautiful bubble letters behind them also really make them POP! Just gorgeous!

hi ern i have fallen (behind) and i canít get up. i am about to say a lot of words. i am so sorry.

I would love to have a description of everything in the wizarding world from your eyes because you have such a good brain and your brain makes so much more sense than the brain of the slimenut who first made the story. all of this to say, i love this quidditch hoop home set. the way you capture so many dimensions (the dimensionality?) (3d?) (perspective?) in your pieces always has me in a state of awe. THE PLANTS. these are so aesthetically pleasing. i think itís the green, brown, purple color combination. i would put these all along my wall if i could.

but my most favorite of all of them is BEARFOOT. the colors. the style. the BEARS. the ballet bear is so poised and graceful and the football bear is so ready to go and the climbing bear is so athletic and the little bear in the right corner is so goofy i love. this is such a fun piece. please frame it and hang it up.

i do not understand how you did the things with the water to make the paint look disappeary, but it is very cool and assures me that i am not a ravenclaw in the slightest. the red is so vibrant here. and this quill. THE COTTON CANDY COLORS. i think the ink splotch is my favorite part of this. you did the ink parts so well. and the little books ;_; theyíre colorful too iím-

LOOK AT THIS LAYERED FORREST itís very deep, i would like to take a stroll in there at the middle of the night to find some of those destroying angels. and this grandmother prompt ;_; the way your mind works *_*

THIS IS THE SWEETEST OTTER I HAVE EVER SEEEEEEEN WITH MY OWN TWO EYES ;_; iím so soft about this otter and itís gigantic hat and itís big jousting weapon. and the bees the way they are CHARGING. their THOUGHTS. they are so ready to fight!!! and the one lil goof in the middle my fave bee. IíM GLAD YOU DREW US ANOTHER FLOWER i love your plants

Oh, you did so much catching up! Amazing! Thank you so much for dropping in and looking at everything and then leaving all those nice comments. I feel like I'll have to make you a bear-and-otter book based on your request here. Something... to think about.

As for my bees, I should work on those letters some more. I like the aesthetic too.

I was wondering when you would stop back in to visit <3. I do have a LOT of head-canons, so we should talk through all the stuff in my brain sometime. Can you imagine how broken and shiny it is in there? SO BROKEN. SO SHINY.

I knew that you'd love those bears. I think maybe I drew them and knew you'd like them AT THE SAME TIME. I'm channeling Slugiana now. Amazing. I won't even fight you over suggesting that Ottery has a hat on, instead of it being a SAINTLY HALO. HE IS A SAINT.

N-e-way, I love you and I love your nice words and I'll see you in a few more posts. Where I will immediately fight you.

Today's prompt is 'air' (Luna's list). I had another painting technique thing that I wanted to try out, and this was a good opportunity, so no weird brain bending for a prompt here. Just me trying to make clouds that actually look like clouds. Sort of... worked? Better than those darn green trees, at least.

SPOILER!!: air

It's been a hot minute since I was in here because.. well, life. And you've made so much art since then! I'm very jealous that you've been able to keep up with them prompts and I want to comment on all of them.

Nagini - I absolutely love your concept and take on the prompt. And I completely agree ^^

Quibbler - I really love how three-dimensional this is. Isn't it cool how different values and the angling of lines can make something look 3D?

Swaddle - This is soo cute! I just did a bird project with my middle schoolers and I love how colorful different birds can be. Really love the colors on this.

Diary - You may or may not know that notebooks and journals are one of my favorite things so of course I love this lol. But what I really like are the colorful blends that represent hopes and dreams, and also the contrast between the vibrant colors and the more neutral book.

Radish - How do you always come up with the cutest ideas? This radish-dog is ADORABLE. Also, I'VE SEEN THESE DOGS on tiktok!!

Autumn - I really like the color blend you got in the pumpkins - the coolest part of watercolor imo.

Poison - Oh I love this mushroom! The pen/watercolor combo gives it such a cool illustrative quality.

Bodyguard - The silhouette of the kelpie is so cool against the transparent layers of watercolor. Love it! I feel like I should have known this about the Branxtons.

Burrow - Omg this is the cutest thing I've ever seen. It's like a prairie dog snow globe. I want one.

Quidditch - Okay this is now my headcanon that all my babies had this plastic baby quidditch hoop in their gardens. This is so adorable omg.

Herbology - These little plants are so sweet (Me and my black thumb cannot identify). I really like the shading on the pots.

Barefoot/bearfoot - Cuuute! I love your little bears as much as I loved your yoga bears. Such a fun prompt interpretation.

Remembrall - Oh this one's neat, especially how you diluted the color to make it look like it's dissipating. Also, it's like it was cracked open and the memory is slowly disappearing.

Green - Oooh is this negative painting? I really like the layers.

Grandmother - N'aww I love this, both the weaving and the concept behind it. I had a grandmother who crocheted and one who knit. I like to knit so I suppose I'll be a knitting grandmother one day.

Ottery St Catchpole - Ok I know I just said that your prompt for burrow was the cutest thing I've ever seen, but this might nudge that one out. Idk, they're both so flipping cute. I love.

Dumbledore's Army - Ahh look at those killer bees! I really like the hand lettering with it.

Ginger - You have such a lovely way of painting plantlife. This is so nice.

Air - I love the softness of the clouds. Have you ever tried pulling off the color with paper towels to make clouds? I do that sometimes, it's kind of a neat way to do it too.

henlo it is i, evilixir, and i have brought my ern appreciation with me

bringing this back to flourish and blotts. fyi, you never do too many things because it just means more art for me (specifically me and nobody else) to look at. I really love that quill piece, everything about it, the detailing in the vane and the inkblot and the colour and the naRrATiVe you've created with the books coming from it (pardon the narrative pun). it's so pretty and pleasant to look at. I want to eat that quill. happy eyes.

that forest is so neat. getting depth into any kind of painting medium is so lost on me, as is this layering business, but you do it so well. I like the misty enchanted vibes. and the grandmother prompt ;; it's so lovely, and in the piece itself I really like how the colours on either side... uh... flow? marble? something.

you already know I adore this little otter and his nimbus. you have one of my favourite brains. all the elements are here and perfect and his fACE. the bumblebee army following close on the otter's heels is perfect. ugh. this whole post is adorable and hilarious. adorilous. also I'm with ariana (but don't tell her) cause I love your plants also, and I don't care much about plants generally. you make me care, how dare you. that ginger flower is so pretty.

and now ;; those clouds are so soft, and I love this blue, and I am lowkey in love with this effect going on in the bottom right... quad...rant(?) i don't know words. I want to eat these clouds also. and mcscuse you, be nice about those green trees, they're beautiful. good enough to eat, in fact.

I like how it turned out too! I really wanted to capture how the color of the petals faded into each other, and it probably would have been easier if I had made it much bigger. But I do like it!

He's so cute! And holy!

I see what you did with your numbering there. You're a hoot.

patron saint of jousting otters please let me spend a day in your brain so I can see how it works because I love it

and the BEES

those clouds are so fluffy...I just wanna snuggle with them
You can't just TAKE things. I will SEND them to you. I've been making feathers since one of my earliest projects with watercolor, so I definitely have a ton of styles now. I'll make a feather mini-gallery for you someday so you can tell me which you like best.

And you are always always welcome in my brain <3

Oh, my goodness, MJ! You came in and took the time to make a comment on EVERYTHING. <3<3 I appreciate you so much, and I value your comments so much. For the green - yes, it's sort of negative painting. Lots of layering, from lightest to darkest. I really do want to try this one again with more finesse. And the clouds - I've done the paper towel method, and lifting with the brush. I liked the idea of being able to have more control, but it definitely has limited use.

bringing this back to flourish and blotts. fyi, you never do too many things because it just means more art for me (specifically me and nobody else) to look at.

Henlo, felix fren. You ALSO came and provided a TON of lovely comments and caught up on my thread. <3<3 I am very happy that you came to visit and I TREASURE YOUR EVERY WORD. Or whatever. I do have to ask that you not eat the paintings. I just don't know if watercolor is good for you. Ink can't be.

I have one of your FAVORITE BRAINS? That's a very nice thing to say. I personally find my brain very broken most of the time, so you're honestly welcome to any of the pieces you find useful. Even the pieces that make you think you like plants, even if you apparently hate all plants. HOw dare.

I can't count. This is definitely day 30 (I had two day 27's???!?!?), and the prompt is "summer" (Ginny's list). There are lots of things that are summery that could have been fun to create, but I kind of wanted to end on a bang. I have a couple of characters who appreciate the outdoors more than I do, but many of them have the same penchant for enjoying stargazing when the weather is good enough to see anything. A galaxy watercolor was one of the first tutorials I ever tried, and although I have much better supplies now, the technique is pretty much the same. I painted this one over the mountains and a little outdoor scene, but the galaxy is my favorite part.

SPOILER!!: summer

Huge congrats, Ern! What a wonderful collection of art you've produced...it's so wonderful to see your mastery of watercolours evolve, even as you play around with new techniques. The layered approach to the green trees reminds me of one of my favourite ways of building up layers to give depth to a piece, either blocking out areas with clear wax or, for more control, masking fluid. And I love that bright blue you used for the clouds...it has a softness and lucidity of touch.

Among the other pieces, I love your take on Ottery St. Catchpole. Just a truly amazing take, and so adorable with that wide-brimmed hat...ahem, saintly halo. I need a whole book of his jousting and adventures saving the realm please and thank you. I remember making woven hearts like that at a 'Round-the-world' event as a Brownie - so thank you for that fun memory :3 And the colour blend in the galaxy is GORGEOUS. Such a fan. You probably already know that though, as I'm always in awe of how you get the colours to mix and flow like that.

The color blend you got on this last one is so pretty. I really like the white stars interspersed throughout it too.
