| | |  Second-Floor Corridor
 Arithmancy and the Headmaster's Office are the primary features on this arguably boring floor. Of course there are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore here, though the doors that fill the second-floor corridor, for the most part, open up to storerooms and vacant classrooms or offices. At least there are plenty of statues and portraits and a few suits of armour scattered about to make exploring a little more interesting.
Not far after stepping onto the second floor, the corridor opens up to a large, high-ceilinged foyer that branches off to the rest of the corridors on this level of the castle. One corridor containing a portrait of Bridget Wenlock will take you directly to the Arithmancy classroom; a large stone gargoyle can be seen in the distance down the middle corridor; and the other corridor will lead you toward an antechamber and, further down, the girls' bathroom. This part of the castle is not carpeted because of Moaning Myrtle's frequent habit of flooding the bathroom.

So many cowebsies.
Algumas had lots of cleaning to do. His broomsie was sweep, sweep, sweeping all the dirt the studentsies keep dragging into the castle and all throughout the corridors. Studentsies were messy and loud and always wanting food from the kitchen when Algamus' elfsies were meant to be working.
This grumpy old elfsie was going to make sure that he did his job and that he did it well. As head elfsie it was up to him to show the younger ones how to clean! This corridor was going to be spotless!
Algamus would make sure of that.

"Hello Algamus!" she said brightly, trailing her hand along the wall so she could keep track of how close she was to it. "Breakfast this morning was delightful, did you have anything to do with that?" In truth, she'd gone out to exercise before breakfast, which likely contributed to how much she'd enjoyed the food. But it never hurt to compliment anyone, especially if it was mostly true. | |

Algumas was all to content in completing the cleaning of this corridor without being bothered. There was a lot of cleaning to be done around the castle. No time could be spared standing about chatting with studentsies who got in his way.
Big ole' elfsie eyes followed the young girl heading along the corridor he had just so diligently scrubbed and swept clean. "Algumas cleaned here, young Missus' didn't make messes on clean floorsies did Missus'?" Studentsies all dragged in lots of dirt and left crumbsies all over. The grumpy old elfsie eyed the floor for any signs of dirt. "Algamus helped with breakfast, yes he did. Algamus fixed lots of foodsies for the studentsies. Studentsies eat all the foodsies at breakfast so Algamus can keep cowebsies away now and dirtsies."
His broom swept around Sophia's feet and over the tops of her shoes. Clean shoesies meant clean floorsies.

She hadn't, so there was no reason for her to feel as defensive as she felt. "Oh, no, I don't think I did," she said cheerfully. "I came from upstairs, it's nice and clean up there." It wasn't as if she'd come in from outside, dragging mud on her shoes. Some other day she might have done that, perhaps, but not today.
She held still as the elf swept over her shoes, then lifted one foot so he could see- there wasn't any dirt underneath, either!
"Is it okay if I keep going? I'm heading back to my common room." She didn't want to mess up his work, though, so she'd find another way to go if he insisted. | |

Head house elf was what Algamus is. Being in charge meant that he had to make sure everything was clean all of the time. Even at the expense of upsetting studentsies. This student before him had come from upstairs. "Yes, yes. Upstairsies is all cleans. Algamus cleans there, yes hims did." The old elf nodded his head vigorously. If it were true that Sophia had come from there then there was no dirt on her shoes to be had. This was further proven by the young girl lifting her feet as Algamus swept her shoes. "Missus is all cleans now. Yes, Missus' is."
"Missus' can keep goings now. Missus' shoesies not icky with dirtsies." Algamus would allow her to continue onward to her common room now that he assured himself that all was right and clean.
Now he could resume his sweeping of the corridors without further interruptions, yes?
