Default Second-Floor Corridor

Arithmancy and the Headmaster's Office are the primary features on this arguably boring floor. Of course there are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore here, though the doors that fill the second-floor corridor, for the most part, open up to storerooms and vacant classrooms or offices. At least there are plenty of statues and portraits and a few suits of armour scattered about to make exploring a little more interesting.

Not far after stepping onto the second floor, the corridor opens up to a large, high-ceilinged foyer that branches off to the rest of the corridors on this level of the castle. One corridor containing a portrait of Bridget Wenlock will take you directly to the Arithmancy classroom; a large stone gargoyle can be seen in the distance down the middle corridor; and the other corridor will lead you toward an antechamber and, further down, the girls' bathroom. This part of the castle is not carpeted because of Moaning Myrtle's frequent habit of flooding the bathroom.

Popping into the corridor Beezley looked around. She busied herself dusting the corridor and straightening the portraits as she went. Being in a good mood anyone walking near could hear her humming a bit to herself though she made sure to say excuse me to a portrait before she moved its frame.

Beezley was a good polite house elf that wanted to please all the humans even the painted ones.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

With his black cat following him at his feet, Daniel had been searching for the library for ten minutes now. Ever since his older brother had mentioned it at home he had been eager to see it. But finding the place proved to be a real task.

Turning the corner in the hopes of finally reaching the library he was instead greeted with the sight of some sort of creature dusting one of the paintings in the corridor. Moving closer, he could hear humming and he wondered if it was doing that. "Hello? What are you?" he probably should have asked WHO are you but he first wanted to know WHAT it was. "Why are you dusting that portrait?" he asked.

Just as she was straightening another portrait Beezley heard someone speaking. "Beezley is a house elf master. Beezley is cleaning like Beezley should." She put her ears down and looked around as if maybe she shouldn't be?

"The portraits are dusty and needed cleaned so Beezley was on the job! Beezley likes keeping the dust away from the castle."

His older brother had never told him about House-elves before which he found odd because if they worked in the castle then he should have mentioned it sometime? But the longer he thought about it the more he was convinced that he never had.

"So" he said as he looked from the portrait and back to Beezley. "You're like a maid?" He had maids working for him at home so he was used to it but it still intrigued him that a non-human was cleaning the castle. "Can't you use magic to clean?" he rolled up the sleeve of his Hufflepuff robe and took out his wand. He sadly still had not mastered flicking the wand out of its wrist holster. "I can help with the other portraits" he said, eager to have an excuse to use magic in the hallways.
