Default Arcade Area

As you continue along the second-floor corridor, you will eventually stumble upon a bust of a medieval wizard who is quietly muttering to himself in Latin. But it is the antechamber near this statue that draws in a lot of students because over the years this spot has been designated as a popular hang-out area. More often than not, those who need a break from schoolwork come here to play an array of indoor wizarding games.

Scattered around this small room are chess boards, decks of Exploding Snap cards, areas for playing Gobstones, and other wizarding games ranging from Snitch Snatcher to Wizard Cracker Pop-It to Wizard Skittles. If none of these games interest you, there is a small table where Runok Ko and Rune Riddle books can be found. Otherwise, you can go check out the suit of armour that stands off to the side -- maybe you will figure out that it is guarding a passage to a secret storeroom -- or, if you feel there's more of the castle for you to explore, take the stairway that leads up to the third floor.

The light-headed and dizzy feeling had intensified, and she thought she might pass out soon. She lay down on her back and took some deep breaths. After a few moments, Kayne started talking about something. She opened her eyes but didn’t sit up quite yet. “I... saw the outside of the kitchen, yeah. So, if we’re doing this right, it means the kitchen is blocked to scrying.” Her voice was wobbly, quiet, and very stressed. “That’s very suspicious. What could possibly justify that in a kitchen? That tells us something. Any information is good.” She took another deep breath. “We can... try one more time, and then see if water scrying works.” Despite her stress, she tried to keep her voice soft. She didn't like seeing Kayne so disappointed. They had learned something. That was good, right?

This was certainly something that was a call to action. The boy certainly knew something wasn't as it seemed with the kitchen and the bread now. What exactly was being hidden? Clearly some of the other students were getting the same vibe too, otherwise there wouldn't be a whole flock of them, Professor Euka included, gathering outside there this very instant. Even in the off chance nothing was up, it still was suspicious that Healer Poppy would be locking it magically. It almost had appeared that they needed a call to action. If that was the case, Kayne would gladly take the lead on this.

"Yes, let's try one more time. Could you possibly help me out? All you'd have to do is take my hand, and place your concentration on seeing into the kitchen." The Vice President calmly explained to his royal highness. "River can join in too." He decided to add, just so that way Ash would feel a bit safer, or at least hopefully, when doing this.

Ash took a couple deep breaths, then sat up. She nodded. “One more time.” Then a long break. She needed a break. She grabbed Kayne’s hand once he said she could, not sure whether it was part of the ritual or just for comfort. Or both. She grabbed his hand tightly though. Like he was holding her over a cliff, or like she was an abandoned child refusing to let go of something. It was a death grip. And her hand was shaking too. Humiliating, but whatever. She held onto River with her other hand. Another death grip. She looked back into the mirror, pushing away nausea and willing herself to not pass out. It would only take a little bit longer and then they would know if they could try water scrying. Only a little bit longer. And then they could rest. “Well. Do you see anything different?” She was double-checking, since it was hard for her to see anything in her current state. But she didn’t think she saw something different. Did Kayne?

Kayne was glad that Ash had agreed to trying it one more time. He knew that this obviously meant something to her as well because she was facing a fear basically; which made Kayne even happier. That proved how true of a friend Ash could be in all honesty. The fourth year snake grabbed Ash's hands tightly back, and repeated what he said before "Show us the Kitchens here at Hogwarts." This time, he placed even more concentration into trying to see into the kitchen. Closing his eyes, he had pictured what it looked like before, the sight, the smell, even the feel of the food being made.

Then, a few moments later, his eyes reopened to see...

The same scene that had played before..."It's just the same thing." Kayne said sighing. His smile now turning into a slight frown. Mordrake went on by saying "If Scrying won't work, water scrying might not work either to be honest." It was sad, but true. If there was something blocking regular scrying, it most likely included other forms of that type of divination.

Aw man. The divination still hadn’t worked. It wasn’t completely useless, because they HAD learned a few things. But Ash’s energy had been almost completely drained. She didn’t say so, but she was certain it showed on her face. Her face was pale, her breathing was too fast, and she couldn’t see properly. She shook like a leaf. Really, the only energy she had left was in her hand, holding on to Kayne like a lifeline. She did him a favor and let go. Her hand hurt already, and she was worried that she had crushed all of his finger bones.

Ash could still manage to speak, even though her voice was all wobbly and wrong. “It looks like the kitchen is blocked from divination magic, and I’m not sure we can do much about it. That sucks, but it tells us something important: there is something weird going on in there.” She smirked. People tended to think she was crazy and worried too much, but she had been right. Again. “Problem is... we can’t tell the professors. They’d focus on why we are trying to scry, not the results we found.” Adults were dumb. Willfully so. Ugh.

“We should probably undo this bubble as soon as we’re not doing anything secret. That’ll make this less suspicious. Where do we go from here?” It was mostly a question about next steps, but if he interpreted it as a question about a literal location... Ash would be very happy if they went to the hospital wing or back to the common rooms. She was tired. She wanted to take a VERY long nap, at the bare minimum. She could use a calming potion too, or maybe a hug.

Who knew that mirrors could be so exhausting? Other than Ash, obviously. She definitely knew that. Duh.

Boy, oh boy, Kayne didn't realize Ash's utter dislike for mirrors was that intense; that is, until he actually glanced over at her noticing that she was as pale as a ghost. Thankfully though, nothing bad had actually happened, it could've ended a lot worse than how it did. Ash could have went into a full blown panic attack, but luckily for the VP, she didn't. Kayne wasn't too good when it came to getting people to calm down in those types of situations, unless it was via the use of some form of charm. His charm and wit mainly came to play in situations where he was clapping back at someone, or flirting; the first being the most prevalent situation. Also luckily for him, his friend had managed to not squeeze the boy's hands too much to where it actually had hurt. Being as athletic as he was, Kayne's hands were pretty resilient when it came to them not being injured thankfully. It would have to take a lot of force in order to actually do some serious damage.

Grinning back in his queen's direction, Kayne agreed with the young claw, nodding in approval. "Indeed, you are right on both counts there your majesty. I think it would be best if we either try to help them right now, or we could always try our own little raid on the kitchen later." It was all a matter of circumstance really. He would prefer to go now, because if anything wrong were to occur, then they'd have back up right then and there. With that being said though, Kayne could also tell that Ash was rather tired and most likely needed some rest.

Placing the mirror back in his bag just to get it out of the girl's sight, he sighed a bit. Part of him was rather disappointed that this didn't work, but also part of him still knew that it wasn't a complete loss. At least they got some form of confirmation that something was off.

Ash hugged her knees to her chest and said nothing for a while. But then... "I think we need to go there now. We'll have backup, and there are professors there. Getting into the kitchen will be easier." If they went later, they were basically doomed. Which was a shame, because she would rather go later. She wanted to sleep. Ugh. Well, everyone had to make sacrifices. This was hers.

Mirrors couldn't stop her. Yes they absolutely could.

She breathed a sigh of relief when Kayne put the mirror away. Her heartbeat calmed down a bit, and she stopped shaking so much. She put River back in her bag. He would probably stay with her for the rest of the day. Just in case.

"I guess it's decided then." She uncurled from her sitting position and got to her feet. It looked like they were going to the kitchen. Yay?

So it had appeared they were about to enact the original plan; a Kitchen heist. Well, technically it wasn't a heist because they weren't going to steal anything from the Kitchen, but they were gonna help break in. Did that still count as a heist? Kayne counted it as one, so why not?

Pointing his wand at the hazy bubble encapsulating the two, he said "Finite!" And watched as the magic he had placed, became undone. Thankfully, no one else was there still, so they didn't have to worry about getting caught.

Nodding at Ash, he told her "Shall we then your majesty, help save the commoners from the evil that lurks within that decrepit kitchen?" Obviously jesting about that last part, or at least, that what Kayne was hoping. There couldn't be too much danger going on in there, right? Right?

Ash smiled weakly and ran a hand through her hair. "I've always wanted to cause trouble like this." She absolutely NEVER EVER EVER wanted to look in a mirror again, and she felt like she could pass out at any moment... but it was important that they saw what was going on in the kitchen. It was IMPORTANT. Which was the only thing keeping her awake and alert. Kitchen. Important... bread...divination. "Let's go, vice president." Onward, to the kitchen.
