My last term's charrie and my ministry charrie were at one point completely original. They were sisters and came from Japan but had an English mother. However when I started to RP with Jojo aka deviljo8586 some of that changed. My mother became her mothers sister and her mother was the only child of Scorpious Malfoy. Through that there came a link with canon characters however I try not to throw that into the RP every chance I get. Yes it's there and that is sometimes acknowledged when you find yourself in a situation where you are meeting another "cousin", like Sakura and Mei Lin are both related to Danny's charrie Barry, but I tried to have them just be themselves. So I think even when you have them being related to canon charries you don't have to make it obvious all the time and you can have it so that certain charries know of your relation but others don't. With my ones it was easier to play the anonymous relation thing I suppose as they were both Japanese and therefore had a different last name to their relatives, making it easier to play them in a different way and not be a stereotype of the family.

My new school charrie is from America and has no relation to any canon charries and it's going to stay that way as I think playing someone completely original will be fun as well. However there is nothing wrong with having a charrie who is related to someone in canon as long as you remember that they are their own person and not just a clone of a canon charrie.

So, about how to make a charrie, lol...

On my second charrie (my current one) I realized that I created him completely different than how I did Rian.

With Kel, I started with history (after picking a gender, of course). I was planning him with another RPer here, who is my friend in RL, so she helped me a lot with him. I thought about what his family was going to be like, what his parents were like, if he had siblings, and all of that good stuff.

Next, I decided on a personality. I really got into detail, why he was the way he was - and that also helped with his history/family stuff.

Then, finally, I decided on looks and a name.

After that, I got more in-depth with his family/personality

And about finding a model for him, I actually had help with that, too. It had to do with the future I was planning for him and another charrie, so I had to find an actor which I'd be able to find pictures with the other charrie's actress, lol.

Oh yeah the whole creation thing

Well for Sakura and Mei Lin I started out with their names and from the names came their backgrounds, where they were from and everything. However that probably only worked because I knew about the culture anyway so could quite easily just pick the names and think nothing of it. After that I worked out something of a timeline for their lives and figured out events that could lead to them moving to England. After that I worked out their personalities as well as the personalities of members of their family, with the last thing being finding pictures for both of them.

With Reid and other charries I've used to RP on this site and other sites the first thing I've found is a picture and I've then worked the personality, character traits, history and lineage out from that with the last thing being a name. Both ways are effective in different ways and you can use either depending on which way works best for you. I like both ways but I think having a picture in your head of what your charrie looks like from the beginning is really helpful.

Since my post was mysteriously spirited away, I shall give the mods something else to inspect.

Am I the only person who can't find a picture to represent their character? Nothing just seems to work.

As I mentioned before: Dont be afraid of being unique. It's always good to have some characters among the mass of students.

I beg you to think it through though. Quirky characters have ruined it for those that wish to be more different with their choice of character. People will assume if you're a canon descendent or whatever your clever idea is, that you are using the identity to compensate for lackluster roleplaying skills.

I'm not trying to say "stupid n00bs" or anything, there's just a lot even the most experienced of us can learn from eachother. Everyones been giving great advice, I still browse the thread sometimes when my creativity is feeling blocked.

Four words sum things up best to me: Be creative, have fun.

I guess I'm a little odd. Usually I'll start with an idea in my head, a personality. I'm a drama-fanatic so I'll be doing something and then a persona will come to me say. Say, striking, indignant, proud. That's Alexa in a few words. She was my first character and was actually meant for a story.

But if differs for everyone, you can start with a play-by (celeb or singer/actor) that you find ah-mazing then you can give them a name and then personality/history. Other people start with a personality and then build from there.
Alexa started from a story, her history changed ALOT and came much later, Rose on the otherhand started with a personality. Shy. Plus, I really wanted a red-head

A character? Uhmm...
For Via... i started with her name, Vivianne... deriving it from one of my favourite actresses name in a Korean series. I tried to pattern my character with that persona but i guess i could never really do that. Next i remember was that i found myself searching for perfect pictures that could really depict the Vivianne i have made in my mind... Starting from the name... to the attitude, then to the personality she really possess.. I've used three actresses before to represent her and i guess now i've really found her. It just takes time before you really finally choose whom will fit into that category of being into the person you've made.

Vivianne or Via is me... I mean, when i feel sad then she does either coz i'm controlling her story although there are just certain things i couldn't control... Her life at the RPg school was different from mine and a lot of times i find myself being controlled by the character i have made. Which i find really interesting... Via had always been a brunette and blonde girl.... i really wanted a character with her hair in curls and then i could have it straight again...

So as you start to unfold your character's story then you'll learn to follow the flow...

Enjoy Rping...

I've never thrown my two cents worth into this thread? Hmmm, shocking. Well, anyway, here is how I create my charries.

Excelsior Black was the very first charrie I have ever RPed. Before that, I had no experience whatsoever and was really concerned that I would do a terrible job of it. This was the only time I chose a name common to many HP charries for his last name, and I admit that was a big mistake. Try to be original in your surnames, unless you want to find half the school claiming to be related to you (well, some people might want that, I don't know!) Excelsior ended up acquiring a sister and many, many cousins during the three terms I RPed him. It's so much better to be original and start on your own. Other than that, I pick names at random, just whatever hits me at the moment. Excelsior was named after a section of San Francisco, the largest city I live near. Antonio's last name, Dumont, came about because it reminded me of Cafe Dumonde, in New Orleans, which sells fabulous beignets and which I visited last fall. Samantha and Brittany, those are just names I like. And Breitbarth was the last name of some people who lived on our block and I thought it sounded cool.

The one thing which is true of all the charries I have ever played is that they all have a little part of me in them. Some more than others, but I tend to do this. It makes it easier for me to play them, and it also makes them more personal and real to me. For instance, Excelsior shared my desire to excel and fear of direct confrontations. Samantha is a kind person but a bit shallow. Antonio has a kind heart but he's pretty materialistic.

Once I decide a charrie name, I usually look for a picture of them, so that I can have an avvie and siggy with my new charrie on it. This helps make them more real, too. I suggest using a lesser celebrity for your role model, not the most popular megastars, so that you will be able to get pics and your charrie won't look like everyone else on here.

Be sure and build flaws into your charries, it's very important. No one wants to RP with someone who is perfect in every detail, and it just isn't realistic or much fun. How many people have you met in your life that were perfect in every single way? Don't be a Mary Sue or a Gary Stu! Give your charrie some eccentric little habits if you can, it makes them interesting.

Let your dialogue flow naturally, as if you were talking to someone for real. Try and put yourself into the situation of your charrie (and this gets easier and easier with time, believe me, until it's almost as if you are your charrie.) Try to write more than just a one word response. Get involved in what's happening, it makes it more fun.

Okay, I hope this helps! Have fun!

With my first charrie Sapphire it was a learning curve considering i have a wild imagination and i just let my fingers type and i realise i have a charrie.

Sapphire was a decendent of Voldemort and could speak parceltounge when she was angry, she was a rather a firiary charrie i let her flow from my imagination, she was controlled by her father and it affected her personality i sadly let her go after her second term as i felt i had played her out but as i say learning curve.

Now with Ruby it was different she was planned with someone else.... i had planned her to become a girlfriend to a first year Hufflepuff and that much i had planned with someone else.

Once i sat down and began to think how i wanted her to be i realised i wanted her to be a relation of the Malfoy's i have a thing about Slytherin i made her gracefull and as if she owned the world...she was spoilt and was going to meet the Hufflepuff on the Train.....i knew the perfect person to represent her once i had her in my mind how she was going to be personality looks etc then i looked for someone to portray her.

I'm going to post here, since I've never.

Raiden's my... I think third character to go through Hogwarts? I was inactive in the RP for a while, so yeah. I had planned to play my last character's younger brother, but I was on MSN one day and someone wanted to RP over that... so I created a new character. It was a bit unorthodox, as I started with his face and worked backwards from that. But, with MSN, that's how it went.

When I brought him to SS, I already had the face and the name. The personality, however, needed tweaking, as he wasn't being played as an adult here. Utterly and completely, the character from MSN and the character on SS are nothing alike.

I did things backwards from my usual stance, however. Usually I'll think out the character's personality and all that before putting a face to them. But then again, Rai's a rather backwards character, so maybe that's how he NEEDED to be created. In the end, it's all up to you! As Linda's said, make sure to build in character flaws. They don't have to be the worst end-all flaws ever, but look around. Everyone has personality flaws (Raiden's ridiculously naive, for example...). Make your characters believable and RPing will be a lot more fun! Also, sometimes it's easier to just... let a character build him- or herself. Raiden's personality and everything was set out and it worked, but for example... In another RP, I have a character named Takki. He's turned into the most spastic, paranoid person I've ever played. He didn't start out like that, but he worked toward it himself. He still has a lot of the traits I laid out when originally figuring him, but... don't be afraid to let go and let your character form him- or herself. These things happen, and they tend to make for a more organic, interesting RP.

Forgive me if my rambling makes no sense.

I've an ego the size of a house to want to share my experience in this thread, but regarding what advise there is for newer players, I will try (and check I say TRY) to be brief.

There's of course one major rule. You need to like your character. So make as many changes as you feel like it until you do, otherwise, you won't have fun. Silly advise maybe, but the truest of them all. So what if your character is not the second descendants from a future hero of alien monkeys? And what if it is, so far as you have fun playing them? Besides, you disliking your character always shows in the writing.

Second advise contradicts a bit the first, but you should make your character challenging to play with. If your character is the master of the universe, you are going to get bored, you know. There's only one way to make your character interesting to PLAY with (don't care about impressing others, that bites) and that way is: make them flawed.

You will learn to like your character -because- it's flawed and, if you are like me, you will end up having a childish, neurotic, biggest coward, selfish, self-centered, anxious, articulation / coordination challenged, paranoid, irresponsable, obsessed, emotionally-thick attention-hag... and I'm probably forgetting a couple of adjetives.

You will also find that, the less advantages they have, it's all for the better. Which is why I will often insist not to go into the whole space monkey thing: play an underdog. Underdogs are generally liked by society as whole, and you often feel gratification for either putting your character in impossibly unfortunate or embarrassing situations, or making him/her struggle and earn people's pity.

Third advice: Give your character a purpose. An advice after all. A written story needs a conflict like a RP character needs an idea of their role in the story, even if it's in the making. A purpose is twice more important than a background and usually scars the character better than (or is the same as) a trauma.

Fourth: There are three character types, which you can base your character in 3 different concepts: Background, Behavior and Player's Performance. Background characters are played in consideration to their past, specially traumas and scarring events: usually dark and depressed characters play heavily in the background. Example: "If only mum was still alive..."

Behavior characters are ones that have a personality programmed into them, and are prompt to tags and nicknames such as "grumpy" and "the mom". They are popular TV figures. They tend to be rather repetitive, but you can make their actions original by looking for every creative way in which they will act according to the circumstances without breaking the rules of their personality. Example: "I love you! And you! And you, my lovely bearhug cherrypie! And you and - oh, darn, I just want to hug all and every little one of you, my pretties~"

Player's Performance character are players that may not have much background and not even much behavior, but in which the involvement of the player is perceivable. The importance doesn't rely on the character but in the physical reality around them. In other words, it's the player's ability to commit to the story, disregarding of what the character's background or behavior is.

For example, a cranky old lady and the male pop singer might have exeedingly different personalities, with abyssmal difference in their backgrounds, but if they are left alone (not at the same time) in a haunted house, they might react exactly the same: cold shiver down their spine, moving slowly listening for any sound, jump at the slightless touch...

My advise is to experiment with all three types and eventually make the character with a bit of the three. And this is where the last advise comes: verosimilitude and credibility. Not only because it makes the character all more likeable, all more challenging and all more credible, redundant as that sounds. But also because, the story will flow better out of you and for your readers.

Note: If this post is too long for you, just read the bold and imagine the rest I said.

Oh also, I don't agree with playbies/celebrities. Often movie stars are all sparkling nice looking people. I hate that. I've only a handful characters that can be considered pretty and it's just a lot more interesting to invent a face and try to describe it.

Alright so here's how I created Dem.

First I picked a name. I decided to go with Demetria because me and my best friend had a zillion nicknames and one of mine was Demyx. So I feminized it and changed it to Demetria. And since it was my first time ever RPing and it was a HP RPG I decided to make her a Weasley. It wasn't until I few months ago when I made her middle name Rose. It just sorta came to me.

Next for her appearence I wanted to make her sorta like me so I could pretend it was me at Hogwarts So I gave her wavy blonde hair, blue eyes, and pale skin just like me. Now to find an actress. I thought of actresses that had blonde wavy hair and sorta paleish skin and the first person i thought of was blake lively. I love her, so it worked.

For the personality, again I made her just like me. And I made her family what I pictured would be a Weasley family other then the ones we know and love. But now that I've RPed with her for a while, I like to change it up a bit sometimes and let things go with the flow.

If you really can't think of how to make a charrie, just picture yourself or how you would want a best friend from Hogwarts to be like. After a while things will flow better and it will be easier.

1) Name.
2) Ships. I know, it's silly, planning out who a character is going to date almost first in the line. But that's the way I roll.
3) Family. Is someone else going to RP his/her brother/sister/parent? What is their blood, half-, pure-, or muggleborn?
4) Strange Qualities. Does he like to dance? Does she only eat fish?
5) Appearance
6) Personality.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Well, Lyra was my very first character that i made up. Before that, i had no other RP experience. I must admit, at first i wanted to make my character flawless, the perfect student who was good at everything but i found out very soon that she became boring to me so i decided to add some flaws in her character which made her alot more interesting for me and i think others too.

i mostly start with a name first. I picked Lyra because i saw the movie "golden compass" a few years ago and the name just came stuck in my mind. I used the last name Riddle by my favorite HP character, Tom Riddle (no i'm not evil ...... ) anyways, i used that last name because i loved that last name, simply as that and when my character meets new people she carefully explains that she only shares the same name and can not possible be related to the Dark Lord. Just like in the muggle world , alot of people have the same names. So yea, Lyra is not related.

After i found a name and last name, i think of the personality. I based my character (when i added the flaws) on my own personality. She's stubborn, curious , sneaky and doesn't mind a little chaos. But she's also kind of shy when meeting new people and veeeeeeeery bad at Arithmancy (i'm bad at math) and she's afraid that she does something wrong which leads to the result that she does mess up.

Then i look at her appearance, is she tall? has glasses? black, blonde, brown hair? and what eye colour? .. i usually go with the contrast (but not totally) of my own appearance so i gave her black wavy hair , chocolate brown eyes and a pale skin.

next comes the family history, and their bloodstatus. I used pureblood and Lyra's whole family has been in Gryffindor except for her uncle who was a Slytherin. I thought it would be interesting to have a pureblooded slytherin who's family were Gryffindors, I again based this on my own family (ok that sounded aweful haha) i look nothing like my father or mother (personality wise) but i look more like my uncle's personality.

¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls

I'm new to RPing and Grace Lesley Kettlewell was my very first character, and I know I sucked at her. So I'll talk about how I created my second and much better carrie: Evan Cartwright.

I've read some people's advices, and most of them start with personality. Well, I always start with background. Did they have any tragedy? Or is their family rich and likes to make their children spoilt? Where do they live? What did they do?

Then I let the background create the personality. Were they raised with much money, so they're selfish, arrogant, mean and spoilt? Or did they have no money at all and therefore knows to share, but also exremely jealous? Then I write their interests and dislikes, again sticking to their background. I always add something from their house to the personality. For example, Evan suspects of Muggleborns and hates Muggles now.

Then comes their appearance, and name. For surnames, I always check my favourite series&books and pick one.

I had completed Grace's personality, so I didn't enjoy RPing her and dropped. But I didn't complete Evan, and now I really like him The only flaw Grace had was her allergy, but Evan has much many. So yeah, leave some flaws and remember: your RP will improve your character And if you're unsure how to create the personality, you can write yourself Evan has a lot in common with me.

Sarah thinks I'm cute | Shan's safe space.

I haven't RPed for that long, and Laura is still my first Character. So, when I was making her up, I didn't think much. I just chose her name, and apparence, and therefore Celebrity, and then mad it up as I went along.

However, I find that Laura is very much like myself. At the beginning of my RPing stages, I realised that I was throwing more of myself into her, and athough this may seem simplest for new RPers, being a kinda sorta professional actress, it just got boring for me. Also, with her being so much like myself, I'd actually already thought her out before I'd hardly started, so I decided that after this term I'm changing her, and I'm currently working on my next Charrie.

First, I chose their past. Where did they grow up, what type of background? Muggleborn, or Pureblood? This helped me develope their personality, for example, if the Charrie had grown up being raised to hate Muggleborns, was he snobbish and rude? But I left most of their personality to figure out as I RP, only making the 'skeleton', as some would say.

From there on I would think of their looks. There personality would help me think of this, eg. if my Charrie was a 'neat-freak' it is doubted that he'd have scruffy hair and an untucked shirt.

Last, and I know it may seem seem strange, I choose the name. First name could be anything, any name I like. Surname is actually quite difficult, I find. For Laura, I decided that I wanted some sort of relation to a Cannon Character, but at the same time I wanted to be different and original. Nicholas Flamel has always seemed an amazing Cannon Charrie to me, and as the books didn't say much about his family, I chose that surname.

For my next character, I wanted a different one, totally and completely RANDOM. So I chose the surname of a person who FaceBook suggested to me. I don't know this person, but something sounded right about their surname with the first name I'd chosen.

Well I guess it all depends on the person. For example I found what Harron Peasley said quite interesting. (Post above me, just in case someone is having a slow day lol) When I first created Allison I was 16. I had this image of a normal girl. Pureblood of course, because I though it would be cool. Then stuff happened and I never came back to SS. Until...recently. When I logged back on I broke into laughter at my character description, and found that what I had written was so absurd. I even found small pictures I had found to represent Allison, and to be frank I thought I would have made a very dumb simpleton Allison.

Ef that I say! So I looked at other people's characters.
What was being used?
What was not being used?
What was overly silly?
What was too far-fetched?
Was I allowed with certain gifts?

And I found answers for every single one. Quite simple really. Purebloods are popular, Muggle borns aren't. I mean there are some but not too many. So my fix was stay in between. Half blood! Then I read how people were making themselves veelas vampires zombies and leprechauns. (I exaggerate ;p) So I said, bah Allison is normal. Regular cute little girl. What was too far-fetched was Allison being the Queen of England or daughter to a Prince. So I made her wealthy but with no royal background. Yes I was allowed with certain gifts. And the one main gift I gave her was a terrible one. Family.

We all love them hate them and want to secretly get rid of them. Well Allison does in this case. So I made her family evil. Dark. Needy. Corrupt. Cruel. And oh very crafty. No one seems to use it that often. So yay!

When I finished writing her profile and I began to role play. I noticed some of things I do were placed into her personality. I think it is best. For example, where she has traveled, who she speaks to, what she likes to do, what instrument she plays etc. It's easier, because I have lived it first hand. Of course I always add a twist.

Finally Allison sprung to life and met all kinds of people. That totally smacked me on the head. The Allison that I created came to life, and was not what I expected. She is completely two-faced and human. Adorable one second, mischievous the next, and a bully out of nowhere.

So I say. Imagine them. Look at them. Ask them questions--even if it sounds insane. Know them. Put yourself in their place. Write about them. Write their actions. And let them come to life. I'm sure your character will surprise you as much as mine did and is doing. Even if I do see a piece of me in there, I never have a dull moment. Usually I get frustrated because I can't write everything she does without sounding like a repetitive bot.

Have fun!~

Your Favourite Beta Male.} |Saucy Chaucy

It's all about the flaws! The right flaws can make any character a treat to read. Think of a big block of pure marble - it's bloody boring, until you add some nicks in it and create a statue. I know, my depth is illuminating. But seriously, flaws really make a character.

I will use my character as an example:

- He's pretentious, but he's a complete tool outside his own element. Also, he can't hold on to one thought at a time without drifting into inane ideas. For this reason, he may go on about the duties of a gentleman -blah blah blah - but he'll also freeze up when you ask him to transfigure something or talk about a famous composer. Just because you want someone to like you, doesn't mean you should be pro-star at everything they're talking about. If your proficient in or have absolute knowledge of everything brought up in dialogue, then I expect to see the freakin' Batman as your RP character (lest I'll call bull-poopie).

NOTE: I'm basing this on a lot of fantasy novels in which the characters may not be of the -Sue variety, but are equally deus ex machina.

- Appearance: He's not fantastic looking, just strangely effeminate. He's lanky, and pale (sigh - everyone in fantasy wants pale skin, but then I walk around in shorts and suddenly it's "Either those are leggings, or you need a tan"). His eyes don't 'sparkle mischievously' nor are they any exotic shade: they are eyes and they are often a dull and unfocused grey. It's how he presents himself that really matters.

- His family: I soon realized everyone was pureblood and rich, so my character's family is one that's slowly going broke. As a result, status is all Chaucer can really flaunt, so the option to be able to buy whatever he wants is out the window. It's important not to consistently grieve over one's flaws because that is irritating and means you're attention-starved as an RPer. Neville Longbottom is a good example of how a family flaw should be treated - bring it up as it suits in posts, but do not focus on it.

- Looks SHOULD come last, but I'm a hypocrite. All my best characters had personalities first, not detailed ones but enough to get a good grasp of the kind of person they would be. Too often I give in to the lure of drawing the character first... they are always so comparatively bland.

That's about all. I would recommend for beginners to take a few (no more than three, preferrably one) core personalities from other characters you like (from wherever) and build up from there. Let's say I like a character called BOBBY-BOO from some random novel who has a number of traits that I fancy. I'll take his trait of being really superstitious and work different traits around that one.

Long-winded, but character design is a hobby for me.

With my newest character Draca I guess I started with an idea and build her from there.
I had a little idea of what she looked like. I researched names and birthdays/zodiacs. Then when I found the name and birthday that I felt was my character I looked on here and around the internet for a picture or celebrity that might fit with no luck. So I went in to my sims 3 game and made a teen. Added some of the traits in sims. Thought up some of her personality. Remade her a few times. I did some more work on her traits and personality.
We have Draca Deadman. She is my avatar and I also have a full shot of her as my profile picture.

I've made my character with a long term planning in mind. I somehow already envisioned her to be the mischievous little devil that on the surface is oh so sweet (and Miley's smile seemed to match exactly how I had in mind), though she originally was going to have blue eyes along with the black hair, but somehow green suited her better, especially after being sorted in Slytherin.

So far she seems Mary-Sueish but in seven terms, a lot can go wrong for her during those terms. So right now, I see Kimalia as being quirky and cool, but a perfectionist and since she's use to having it easy in life it'll make it more difficult for her to deal with when certain events happen with her.. So for now, everything's peachy with her.

I think it's fine if you wish to start out with the perfect character, as long as you plan out how what you're going to have them as during their school years. I can imagine it being pretty boring when you continually play as the same character without much change to their personality, so don't be shy in changing things up and make them complex!

Raine Rivera

Wow. I've been rping for 2 or more years now but I came back to Snitchseeker after a long time! I'm glad! Anyway when I looked at my profile, all I saw was her name is Jewel Rivera and she is shy and smart. She's also a muggleborn. Honestly Jewel Rivera is now overrated for me. I've been naming almost all my characters Jewel Rivera *shudders* I also used Jewel as a name a lot... I wanted to change it but her surname for me was good enough. As I was thinking, I'm not really sure what name I should use that's not commonly used. I don't know. Suddenly the name Raine popped into my mind. I guess it's because I watched this show and the main female character's name is Raine. lol. I was just tired and it seems to me that the name was good enough so I just used it. RR. lol.

Wait I suddenly remembered I need a middle name so I searched one right now and I decided to use Charity for her. Now it's RCR :p

Anyway I didn't realize it now but I think her name really suits her well. I found out information about Raine.

Raine on BabyNamer: Baby Names and Meanings

Also Rivera is something water so anyway....

I didn't change her blood status as a muggleborn since I know there's a lot of pureblood out there. I decided I wanted something new and not that popular. Her personality is still under construction right now but I know practical as well as shy and smart are there. I came across practical when I am rping at some shops and I think that's perfect for her. The downside about being practical is she's NOT practical if it comes about books. I might make her similar to me yet different. I'll just see.

Now about celebrity. I came across the celeb list and I wondered what celeb should I use. My mind came to Song Hye Kyo first but I realized she's a Korean and she doesn't have any Spanish blood in her. She just doesn't look like one. I need someone looking Spanish because of her last name Rivera. Anyway I saw Alexis Bledel's name and I decided she fits well. At that time her look just seems great but as I learned Alexis mom is Mexican and her dad Argentine with Danish descent (from wikipedia) so now she's perfect.

Wait... Wow. Weehh. A lot of ideas coming into my mind right now.

I think everyone already gave you all the information about creating a character. Every person is different. Sometimes I come up with a celeb first but there are times I come up with a name first and I start from there. Usually though I just get a random name and a celeb that I just like. haha. Good thing it fits them. Anyway I've learn a lot in terms of creating a new charrie and I'm still learning. Who knows I might get more ideas when I continued reading this thread

Don't Cross the Book | who turned out the | Lights Lennox

I first come up with one or two personality factors - serious, playful, bookish, a prankster, haughty ... Then I ask myself what I want her/him to value - intelligence, strength of character, fun, blood purity, friendship/popularity ... Then I ask myself if my character is maybe too much like myself. If so, back to the start, because this is a fictional character, not me.
Next is the fun part - what my charrie looks like! Mostly her/his personality comes through after this step. Hair, eyes, build, face, markings ... the whole bunch!
Family is usually next - what is my charrie's background? What is her/his blood status? What was her/his upbringing like? Parents? Siblings? Guardians? Second-cousin-thrice-removed?
Lastly is the naming. I try to name my charrie in accordance to what she/he is like - ie, the meaning of the name. For instance, a shady charrie with a lot to hide might be called Shadow.

Here's my current charrie Jezabel's personality steps. I've put the last step first, because I always knew she was going to be Jezabel. Just knew it.
Name: Jezabel Khalida Black - Jezabel is a Hebrew name and means "not exalted" (this refers to Jez's bad status in her family, who are prejudiced against Muggles and the like); Khalida is an Arabic name meaning "eternal" or "immortal" (Jez is kind of arrogant in that she sometimes believes she can do anything she likes and not get into trouble); Black is, well, black, and refers to her family (and Sirius black, my favourite character in HP!)
Factor(s): Intelligent and playful
Values: Intelligence
Looks: Jez has straight waist-length black hair, and violet eyes. I saw this look on a teenager in the mall a while back, and she looked gorgeous! All male eyes turned on her - literally. She is slim with an hourglass frame. She has a scar running up her from her left hand to elbow from breaking it in a broomstick accident.
Family: Jez's family are purebloods and completely horrible - blood purity, wealth and being in Slytherin are their only values, it seems. Jez hates them, expect for her 18-year-old brother Keegan and 9-year-old brother Than, because they, like her, have escaped the family influence. Jez has 6 siblings, which means there are 7 kids in the family - this was no accident on my part! I wanted Jez's parents to be so bent on magical purity they had 7 kids (7 is considered the most powerful magical number).

Hope this helped!

BOOMBAYAH! | #PuedoPorquePiensoQuePuedo | Certified Blank and Random Person | Raventastic

This is my first time for RPing at snitchseeker actually
First thing that I think about my char is NAME
Actually I've ever make a wizarding char (not for RPG ) and her name is Raven Charlotte

Why Raven? Because I think my real character is a Ravenclaw then I put Raven as my first name besides that, Raven sounds mysterious( I remember teen titans' character who is also named Raven
and Charlotte? It was accidental because when I created my wizarding char, I saw Good Charlotte poster at my bedroom
and my middle name is Avicenna, a persian who known as an scientist and an author of The Book of Healing. Since Raven was born in a healer family (her mom is a healer and her dad used to) so I put the middle name
then, characteristic. 80% Raven's characteristic is my real life She is boyish, unpredictable, ambitious, smart, bookworm, pranks and jokes lover and she is close to her brother.

Ancestry? Since I belong to Slytherin, I made it pureblood

Then her looks. I want to make a different, so I make her has a short hair colored white , tall, and wears glasses.
