Default Expanding Character Depth: Who deserves more screen time?

Expanding Character Depth: Who deserves more screen time?

The wizarding world is vast, vibrant, and filled with characters who captured our imaginations, sometimes with just a single line or a fleeting glance. While the original films brought many beloved names to life, the time constraints left several fascinating figures in the shadows. The HBO Max series has the unique opportunity to flesh out these overlooked personalities, allowing for richer stories and a more immersive magical universe.

This thread is a space to champion the unsung heroes, mysterious side characters, and underexplored relationships that deserve more attention. Which students were more than just background filler? Which professors had stories beyond their classroom scenes? Are there family members, Death Eaters, Ministry workers, or magical beings whose narratives were hinted at but never fully explored?

Who do you think deserves a deeper dive? What scenes or backstories could bring them to life? Let's give them the spotlight they never got!

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Cedric Diggory comes to mind, especially since he plays an integral part in book four, and is a main driving force behind Harry’s grief in a good part of the fifth. Sure, Cedric was briefly introduced in book three during the Quidditch match between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. Given how important he proved to be, I believe that he deserves to be mentioned more in the script for S3 {if the plans continue as stated where each book gets made into a season}.

Him being introduced in the show through the match would be wonderful, and perhaps the match could be one of the focuses so that Cedric’s exceptional Quidditch skills are translated from pages to screen. The writers can also add him to other scenes, as long as there are valid reasons for him to be tain them. I wouldn't want it to be a case of 'oh, there's Cedric' while we're watching the match, then he makes an appearance until S4 having been forgotten after Quidditch is completed. That way, the fans can potentially form a bond with the character and when he’s sadly killed off, his death will be that more profound. As bad as that sounds from a Cedric-lover’s POV, his personality and death will be remembered if done right.

What a fantastic opportunity for the HBO Max series to bring new life to the wizarding world's quieter corners! I'd like to see more of Emmeline Vance—a name whispered with reverence in the Order, but with barely a flicker of screen time. Consider scenes in which she serves as a secret liaison between magical governments, or duels with Death Eaters in Prague's abandoned alleyways. Total underappreciated legend potential. Also? Lee Jordan. Not only the Quidditch commentator! He’s intelligent, witty and fiercely loyal—we could look at his struggles with being overlooked, his post-Hogwarts activism, or his friendship with Fred and George through a less prank-centric lens.

I’m also aboard the Regulus Black train. Watching his quiet defiance develop, his interactions with Kreacher, and the tragic weight of legacy unfold in real time? Cinematic gold.
