Default Universal Studios Hollywood Fast & Furious: Supercharged review

By Katie Bellman

Universal Studios Hollywood has opened their newest attraction – and penultimate to the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter next year – Fast & Furious: Supercharged. Starring in the ride are the Fast & Furious film series’ cast, directed by Thierry Coup, who also directed the actors in both Wizarding World of Harry Potter rides Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. Fast & Furious actors featured in the new attraction include Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Luke Evans, who is currently shooting Disney’s live action musical Beauty and the Beast, where he will be playing ‘Gaston’ opposite Emma Watson’s ‘Belle.’

SnitchSeeker was on hand for the grand opening of the Fast & Furious attraction, which included red carpet interviews with some of the film series' cast, speeches from universal execs and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and a car stunt.

The Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction is the last stop on Universal's famous tram tour. Here's a quick rundown of what guests will see on the tram tour:

The tram tour begins (and ends) behind the building which will house Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. The tram winds its way downhill to Universal’s front lot, where it passes by various sound stages currently in production.

Moving to Universal’s back lot, where several outdoor movie sets are located, visitors first see New York – this set was in use and “dressed” when my tram toured passed by it.

Next is the metropolitan set, where scenes such as those for superhero movies have been shot. (Note: This was where the press event for the grand opening of Fast & Furious: Supercharged took place.)

Up next on the tram tour is the first attraction: King Kong: 360 3-D, where the tram enters a building with giant screens and riders experience dinosaurs attacking the tram. When the tram exits, it passes by a display of movie cars, then Jurassic park dinosaurs. The second attraction is in the Western set where visitors see how movie “rain” is created and they experience a flash flood. This is followed by the third attraction where the tram drives down into a lake that “parts” like the Red Sea.

After traveling through the Old Europe set, the tram goes to the fourth attraction, located in an old fishing village. Unlike Universal Orlando, the Jaws shark here is still going strong, so prepare to get wet. The tram then enters a building where the Earthquake attraction takes places (again, you’re going to get wet).

Next the tram starts to travel uphill, passing by the sets for How the Grinch Stole Christmas and a jet plane crash from War of the Worlds.

Still traveling uphill, the tram passes the Bates Motel and house from Psycho, as well as an ocean set (a large green screen in front of a giant pool), before coming to the sixth, final and newest attraction, Fast & Furious: Supercharged. Upon entering the building, tram riders are informed that there is someone from the witness protection program on the tram that bad guy Owen Shaw (aka Luke Evans) is out to get. But don’t worry, Hobbs and team work hard throughout the ride to protect the tram – even as it races down an L.A. freeway at over 100 m.p.h. (via a wraparound 3D screen).
