At first, you might have thought Javier was sitting on his desk - but that wasn't the professor propped up on the surface in a sitting position. It was a plain white dummy without a face, because that would be weird, in Javi's opinion and the dummy seemed to have fallen into a bit of bad luck. Its arm was in a sling, it had a bandage on its leg, and a fake gash on its other leg. It strongly resembled one of those muggle medical dummies - but again, without a face. Javier could not stress enough how much that weirded him out.
The professor himself was standing behind his desk, arms folded as he leaned against the blackboard as he waited for the students to file in.

So it seemed there was no escaping an actual recitation here. Sailor ought to feel grateful, for he was capable of mentally floating elsewhere the moment any lesson started. Unless the dummy started moving any moment now, he supposed he could work on his list of magical first-aid essentials. He didn't overthink his top three, because there was no way there were three most important essentials anyway. To have only exactly three items in one's first-aid kit makes them incredibly unprepared.
With that, Sailor jotted down the first three he thought of. He thought of including that Chinese menthol and camphor balm they had at home, but that was neither magical or equally important as other first-aid things in his mind. His mother just had one in the kit they had at home, and Sailor never really questioned it. It had always been there.
As he waited to be called on, Sailor's thoughts had already briefly floated away as he stared at the dummy in hopes of catching any hint of movement. Fortunately, he hadn't dove too deep in his train of thought when it was his turn to speak up. "Essence of dittany, for skin wounds. Anapneo, the spell, for clearing someone's airway in the event of choking. Lastly, any form of red sparks spells, like Periculum, because first-aid isn't complete treatment and one would still need to see a healer if their injuries are serious." He'd try to say his list as quickly as he could, so he could go back to his thoughts.

This was a VERY interesting topic. Remy enjoyed potions usually but this had particularly sparked her attention. She scribbled a rough list, with the obvious answers such as dittany and bezoars, which had both already been mentioned, but was tapping her quill against her chin when thinking of a third. She wanted to think of a useful spell.
Her heart pounding as it was her turn to explain her answers, Remy cleared her throat and spoke quickly and quietly. “Dittany… which has already been mentioned - it heals flesh wounds. Bezoars are commonly used to treat most poisons. There are a few spells that would be really handy, such as the Bandaging Charm… ferula… it can splint broken bones to aid healing.” Not as much of a quicker fix as others but still useful for bad injuries.
AND BREATHE. She hated talking in class lately.

Summer smiled as she whispered hi back to Desiree, but then she noticed her friend looked very distracted, she thought about asking if everything was okay but then the Professor spoke and Summer tried to figure out what she would say, but no matter what she did, she couldn't think of anything, so she just decided to guess.
Summer knew the first item wasn't actually a spell or anything, "How about Mascara!" Summer thought, you could use that to hide just about anything. She then tried to think of two more. "I would also have some dragon blood, apparently that's realy rare, and very expensive, and finally how about something for burns." Summer didn't know what exactly but well that was all she could come up with.
While Luther was thinking about Professor Hernandez's question in his seat at the back of the classroom, his mind wandered to the embarrassingly many times that his scrapes and cuts were treated by Leo. He did not realize that others in the classroom have already answered the question and he had the tiniest of reminiscing smiles on his face.
Taking a deep breath, he pushed the memories to the back of his mind and tried to focus on the lesson. He was still not comfortable with being close to that many cauldrons filled with potions brewed by students.

Norah leaned forward as class began. She was still fascinated as ever, just like it was the very first day and she was arriving at Hogwarts. She hoped she never lost that feeling. Three things? Norah took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a moment and leaned back in her seat. Three was an odd number to request. Maybe five was too many?
"Well, I agree a wand would be useful." Norah shrugged her shoulders. "Hopefully one would have their wand with them and ready. So I guess that's number one." She paused for a moment, looking around at the other students. "My second thing would be lavender. It smells nice, calms nerves, eases inflammation and soreness." Norah nodded her head several times. "One, wand. Two, lavender." She smiled. "As for a third thing would be the Bandaging Charm; simple but effective." Norah let out a deep breath, talking in class was her least favourite thing. Not because she might be wrong, but she didn't like all eyes on her all the time, which was why she tried to sit in the back most of the time...which was hard because she was so tiny. "One, wand. Two, lavender. Three, Bandaging Charm." Norah gave a small smile and nod to the Professor before sitting back down.

If there was a most gullible award, Apollo would definitely win that one hands down. Because he definitely had gone in for the clutch and greeted the dummy before realizing that the Professor was standing a ways back. Feeling flustered, the seventh year found a seat and busied himself in reading through his notes until class began. Which thankfully wasn't too long of a wait.
Three things essential when it comes to healing? Was Javier friends with his grandmother? Though he was far too young for that, wasn't he? Then again ... Apollo was terrible at judging people's ages so maybe? He tried to think of when he went over to grandma and grandpa's... what were things that they had for injuries? But also for quidditch. A wand was an interesting thing, but was it an essential? What if the wand broke? Not that it was a wrong answer, but Apollo wasn't convinced it would go into his healing bag.
"I think probably an ice or heating pack, assorted salves, and a bezoar ... although the later of which has been mentioned, but it's definitely an underrated magical item."

Jude was mentally checking off the most used equipment as he organised his workstation when he heard the greeting. “Oh hey, Minnie Mouse!’’ His grin was wide as she took the station on the other side of him. Who knew they would have gotten to hang out at Hogwarts {even if these occurred during lessons} as opposed to just during the previous summer? Hi, Keigh! Even though they had seen each other earlier that day, Jude was thrilled to see his little sister. He mimicked her finger wave right back.
It made sense that the topic of their lesson today be about healing. Jude couldn’t help but cast another glance at the poor broken fella. And he couldn’t help but agree with Hernandez: it was good to have basic healing knowledge. It would especially come in handy for him whenever he had any accidents that involved him slipping on stage during any of his practices for his shows. Only during practice because, yes, since Jude had no intention of injuring himself during a live one.
The Hufflepuff got to work, flicking his quill from side to side as he thought. He was putting himself in situations on stage where he got hurt and trying to figure out what best could be used to make himself better again. Finally, he came up with his top three and was able to raise his hand.
“My picks would be the Pepper Up Potion - because colds can be annoying and inconvenient, especially when there are things that you need to get done and The Wound Cleaning Potion - since having clean wounds are important if we want to prevent infection. Vulnera Sanentur would be a handy spell to know because it can heal deep wounds.” This made the point of having a wand one of the top three items to have when it came to healing. Two thumbs up to you, Mercer.

Ooh… injured playing quidditch. That was better than being attacked by a dark wizard or big scary creature or worse, some combination of the two (like an Inferius), but still… Poor Edward! Yes, Desiree was calling the dummy Edward, at least until she learned it had some other name. Its arm injury and lack of eyesight - well, lack of eyes in this case - sort of reminded her of an Edward in a book she read recently.
She gave Summer a slight smile in acknowledgement, but there wasn’t time to chat. Class was starting! She faced the front, listening as the professor spoke. Yes, she had guessed that they’d be doing something with healing today - why else would Edward be there? This class just got interesting! Ever since the teddy-rat incident last term, Desiree had been considering a career as a healer someday. She was slightly disappointed that they wouldn’t be healing Edward, though when she thought about it, she supposed she shouldn’t be surprised. Whatever potion they were brewing would probably react differently with a dummy’s injuries than a real person’s, and besides, there were loads of people in this class and only one Edward. They would’ve had to take turns, and that would’ve taken forever!
Desiree had to stifle a giggle at Summer’s answer. Really, mascara?! She loved her beauty products as much as the next girl, but she doubted it would be useful in that situation. She turned her attention to her own list, more determined than ever to ace this class! Okay, so three things essential for healing… She thought for a moment, hastily scribbling down her ideas. Vulnera Sanentur, Episkey, Ferrula… Boom! That was three things already! As Desiree looked over her list, she realized there were two things wrong with it. One, all three of those things were spells, and this was potions class, not charms. And two, she was pretty sure that all three had been mentioned. Better start over…
Now what potions could she add to that list? She thought, searching the depth of her mind for any scrap of information, and remembered reading about a blood-replenishing potion. That was important for sure! And… maybe a potion for dreamless sleep. Rest was important, right? And for her last thing, she was going with a spell because she was better at those than she was at potions! Had anybody said Anapneo yet? No? Okay, let’s go with that!
Finally satisfied with her list, she waited for her turn. “Anapneo,” she said when called on. “That spell clears a blocked airway. I’d also include a blood-replenishing potion. Like the name suggests, it can help with blood loss, and.. A potion for dreamless sleep to help the patient rest because rest is an important part of recovery.”

Ewy was somewhere amongst all the other First Years during the class not a long shot away from Wiley and Mia. Nora, Brandon, Maisey, and Sophie were over that way, there was another Slytherin Girl (Phoebe) who wasn't far from them all either. So his seat in the Potions class was definitely somewhere amongst those seven. It certainly made him feel apart of the little group even if he kept quiet after having come into class with everyone.
Oh Thank Goodness they could use the textbook! Ywan was still a bit raw with potions since the beginning of the year but he felt he was getting some hang of it. Even if some of the things he's brewed haven't been perfect. He pulled the book from it's bag and heaved it onto his desk. Skimming through the book looking for Healing Potions of anything else that might help the poor dummy. Did the Professor say that these would need to be their own top three picks? Well Ewy then wanted to find some pretty awesome things.
He scribbled down on a parchment his three choices after having looked through his Potions textbook. Once he was called on the Hufflepuff shot up from his seat and faced toward the dummy thinking it was the Professor before embarrassingly shifting toward the actual Professor. "W-well sir I decided to go with um..the Skele-Grow potion. It said it it could grow back entire bones, and while that might be painful to grow back an entire bone, like and arm or a leg bone. I think it would be far more useful if say you lost a tooth. So it might be a good potion for say a boxer or a mixed martial artist." What else did he write down? He consulted his parchment before returning his gaze toward the Professor. Nothing else he wrote was as remarkable as the Skele-Grow potion he read up on before his name was called. "I uh..I also said that we should carry ibuprofen to help with the pain of the tooth growing back, and tissues because if your tooth got knocked out you probably have a pretty bloody mouth before taking the potion, and blood probably doesn't make the bad tasting potion taste any better." With that Ywan quickly took his seat and closed his textbook.

Healing. Yes. That much had been a given and Mitsuki already found her attention waxing and waning. It was just one of those days and would no doubt result in her cauldron bubbling over at the very least. She was focused long enough to write the numbers 1, 2, and 3 on her parchment...but that was where it ceased. Her gaze shifted towards Mercer as he spoke, but also seemingly through him and to an oddly shaped stone on the wall behind him. It was almost octagonal but also had an organic quality about it...like it were a living and breathing rock demon that had latched itself on to the wall. Perhaps it was suckling there, siphoning the magic from the castle...
When her attention ebbed back in, Mia was speaking about The Healer's Helpmate and the Ravenclaw's attention span regrettably flowed in another direction - everywhere and no where, to be precise. There were lots of words being shared and Mitsuki continued to remain silent while she searched the walls for more rock demons.
When she could find no more...she turned her attention to her parchment, entered her own little world, and decided to draw a second...and then some additional embellishments as well.

When she had come into class earlier the unnerving dummy with no head and multiple injuries had stolen most of Bella's attention, but she had of course greeted her professor and head of house. She had managed to find herself an empty seat before the class had begun. That they were going to be talking about healing and first aid kits came as no big surprise considering the state of the dummy up front. If Bella had to guess they would get to try healing the dummy's injuries later. For their first activity they were supposed to compile a list of thing they wanted or thought should be included in a magical first aid kit.
After careful thought and consideration Bella awaited her turn and then spoke up when she was called on my Professor Hernandez. "There are many salves, pastes, spells and potions I think should be included in a first aid kit, but my top one is Aloe Vera salve because its usefulness in that it can treat small wounds, burns, and minor skin infections. I'd also include a blood repleneshing potion to give to someone that has lost a lot of blood or the might faint, a skele-gro potion to be able to restore any broken or missing bones and the Apaneo spell for helping with clearing airways. If a patient can't breathe then that's very serious and can lead to more serious injuries." Bella then quieted down and started to scribble down plants and such that her peers had said that also could be useful in a first aid kit. This was fun! Maybe she could become a healer one day?

The question was one which gave her pause. What would she include in her medical kit? She began jotting a few ideas in her notebook as she went through things she had seen in the Hospital Wing when she had visited there. Then she thought about what her parents had at home as the medical kit… but she had to translate that into the magical world.
She wished phoning a friend was an option for this question. It piqued her interest but she would have been curious to know her brother’s perspective on it as he was currently finishing up his training as a Healer.
When she had figured out her top three, Lisa raised her hand and then was called on. “Professor, the three items that I’d have in my kit would be focused on caring for broken bones or sprained limbs and some salves. First, I’d choose the Bandaging Charm for bandaging a broken bone or limb. If I didn’t have that option but had unicorn hair, I could use that to bind bandages.” She had read an account of where that had been proven useful. Lisa had never tried it.
“Second, I’d have Essence of Dittany. This can be used on open wounds to help the skin grow back. Thirdly I would have Phoenix tears as they can cure most severe injuries.. but those are hard to come by so a more realistic third option would be…” She paused momentarily between two options in her mind before finally… “ Then I’d have to agree with Bella. I’d also include a Blood-Replenishing Potion that’s in case of emergencies if a person suffers an injury with a great amount of blood loss.”
Maisey nodded, she had to agree with her head of house. She wasn’t much of a fan of faces on mannequins either. She might have turned around and left the classroom if the mannequin had a face. Although without a face the mannequin was almost equally as weird. Or maybe she would just name the mannequin herself. Bobbi Manny she decided to herself.
Magical healing… this could come in handy one day. Her mum was a nurse in the muggle world. She had always wanted to be a nurse just like her. But now maybe being a healer would be even better.
Once the activity was assigned the first year got started getting out quill parchment and book. She flipped through the pages looking for healing… any thing to do with healing. She flipped the pages scribbled things down and marked it out. She did this a few times before she satisfied with her answers that she had narrowed down to her three she would present to the class
She added her reasonings just as the presentation of answers started. When it was her to give her answers she stood up so everyone could hear her. She wasn’t even remotely shy, in fact she loved speaking in front of people. ”First I have the calming Draught, not only for the injured persons but for the person who’s giving the care. You have to be calm, cool and collected.” Or at least that’s what her mum says when she’s in a stressful situation at her work. ”Secondly I have Accio, I choose that one because it might be easier and quicker to get exactly what you need and you don’t want to leave the injured person alone.” because minutes counted, another thing her mum said about her job. ”Lastly a Invigoration Draught or Essence of Rue both are used to give you strength and the stronger you are the faster you’ll heal.” Again it was a good thing that she listened to her mum talk about work.

So you definitely need a wand. And then second, I have... a stick? Like NOT a wand but just a big old stick. You can use it as a crutch if you twist your ankle hiking or you can use it as a splint if you fall off a cliff and break your arm and you can bite it if you are in so much pain that you just want to scream and cry and carry on." Ahem. He was doing so well. "Carrying on is not helpful in an emergency, just so you know. And then my last one is antiseptic potion, because my dad always says that most injuries just need you to kill the germs, slap your shirt back on, and get to work."
Basic supplies, like a wand, was a good start. Javier nodded at Mercer as he answered - the stick bit was particularly creative, but also had potential to cause more injury. He hated to say he knew exactly how it felt to step on one the wrong way...
"Excellent answers - and I appreciate the creativity," he added with a smile, waving his hand so his answers started a list on the blackboard behind him.

Whatever they would be working on might be oftly handy in both careers, but most useful in the career path of healer.
As for the activity, Rajesh had a good idea on a handful of things, taking a moment to decide which to give as his answers when he was called on. “Essence of Dittany for sure,” he supplied as his first choice. “For healing shallow wounds, such as those obtained through spilching.” It was something he had learned after they had had those apparition lessons. “A bezoar to help with poisonings.” Which was helpful for anyone who worked with potions really. “And nettle…” he added as his last plant or potion, trying to remember the specific reasons. “Um…as an astringent for wounds…and helping with swelling.”
"Very good answers!" Javier said with an encouraging smile at Raj. Javi expected those answers to make it to their list eventually, and added them with another hand wave.

It took him a long time to make those three groups. And he wasn't sure the professor wanted GROUPS. But it was already time to present... "Um... um..." Brandon hesitated, clearing his throat. "I- I think that you need to have things for three groups: stopping the injury, stopping the pain, and being calm. You need them because the injury is the most important problem to stop, but even after that it might still hurt and people freak out when things hurt. So... one example for each would be Vulnera... Sanentur. Because it's good for really bad bleeding. A proper numbing cream. Because the pain might be really hard to deal with. And a calming draught. To calm down." He'd really been talking for the longest time, and the more he talked the more he felt awkward. Was that too much? Too little? He stopped talking and just focused on writing notes.
"Good job thinking about outside forces that might make treatment of wounds difficult," the professor told Brandon with a smile. Sometimes people forgot that there were things - such as the numbing cream he mentioned - that could aid in their recovery. People didn't always HAVE to be in pain.

A list of necessities for healing? The young Ravenclaw made a good point bringing up wands too because for the most part that WOULD be helpful, but there were a few things that came to mind first for her - assuming the wand was an automatic. Her muggleborn instinct said bandages or a long scarf would be good, to be used for a tourniquet or staunching blood but... well herbs and potions could do that AND heal in the process. So she'd skip that. Tapping her cheek with her pen, she pulled her piece of paper closer to her and started to scribble.

It was just a mini- activity, so she was happy enough with her list and took instead to doodling a little mushroom next to the book title while she waited for her name to be called. "My list is Dittany, like Raj said it's good for superficial cuts and scrapes or splinching accidents. Skele-gro for any Episkey or other spell gone wrong." See, sometimes she paid attention in History of Magic. "And perhaps this is cheating, but I'd also want the text, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, in order to be able to recognize helpful herbs and plants in any setting and also be able to have an index of what they would be good for." Research texts were helpful, weren't they? Having a full storeroom on your person would be better, but in most scenarios... not plausible. So in that scenario, she'd rather take knowledge.
"Not cheating at all!" Javi assured her. "Books are useful resources that we should absolutely utilize if need be," he reminded her. Dittany was a popular answer, of course - as he expected it would be. The answers continued to trickle slowly onto the blackboard behind him as each student spoke. Skele-Gro was also a good one, albeit a nasty tasting one...

It would have helped to have more of a magical background, so she could come up with all the different kinds of scenarios magical people might encounter, but seeing as that wasn't the case, she was still left with a somewhat blank slate.
Mercer was talking about scaring away the bears, though, so she figured the answers didn't have to be taken too seriously. Bears did need to be scared away, but the answer made her realize she was looking far too much into this. Soon, it was her turn. "I'm thinking a spell to help lift and carry an injured person might help, because you might not be able to carry them. I also heard it could be dangerous to carry someone when they're hurt," she said. She should probably throw in a potion or two, since this was a potions class. "Maybe a burn paste? Those kinds of injuries really need healing right away." How many did she need? Three? The first year tapped her quill against her parchment before adding, "...a headache potion, because that's a pretty common thing for people to deal with."
"Good thinking, Miss Collins," Javier replied in response to her answers. He liked that she was thinking outside the box, and although there wasn't a specific potion out there for headaches, a general pain reliever was always a good idea as well!

Many of the students were bringing up books, which Javi hadn't anticipated - but they were good answers nonetheless! "Yes, very good Miss Adair - broad spectrum potions are always good to have on hand, in addition to resources like you said," he assured her.

He'd try to say his list as quickly as he could, so he could go back to his thoughts.
"Ah, good thinking about the sparks - sometimes our most useful tool in our arsenal is calling for help," Javi nodded in agreement as he listed to Sailor list out his answers.

"Ice packs and heating packs are both VERY underrated as well, in my opinion," Javier said with a smile. He particularly liked using heat packs when his back hurt from working on the grounds. Don't get old, kids.

The Hufflepuff got to work, flicking his quill from side to side as he thought. He was putting himself in situations on stage where he got hurt and trying to figure out what best could be used to make himself better again. Finally, he came up with his top three and was able to raise his hand.
“My picks would be the Pepper Up Potion - because colds can be annoying and inconvenient, especially when there are things that you need to get done and The Wound Cleaning Potion - since having clean wounds are important if we want to prevent infection. Vulnera Sanentur would be a handy spell to know because it can heal deep wounds.” This made the point of having a wand one of the top three items to have when it came to healing. Two thumbs up to you, Mercer.
"A personal favorite of mine...I hate getting colds," Javier said with a smile at Jude's answer about the Pepper-Up Potion. Javier, dramatic about a common head cold? Who would have THOUGHT? [/sarcasm].

She turned her attention to her own list, more determined than ever to ace this class! Okay, so three things essential for healing… She thought for a moment, hastily scribbling down her ideas. Vulnera Sanentur, Episkey, Ferrula… Boom! That was three things already! As Desiree looked over her list, she realized there were two things wrong with it. One, all three of those things were spells, and this was potions class, not charms. And two, she was pretty sure that all three had been mentioned. Better start over…
Now what potions could she add to that list? She thought, searching the depth of her mind for any scrap of information, and remembered reading about a blood-replenishing potion. That was important for sure! And… maybe a potion for dreamless sleep. Rest was important, right? And for her last thing, she was going with a spell because she was better at those than she was at potions! Had anybody said Anapneo yet? No? Okay, let’s go with that!
Finally satisfied with her list, she waited for her turn. “Anapneo,” she said when called on. “That spell clears a blocked airway. I’d also include a blood-replenishing potion. Like the name suggests, it can help with blood loss, and.. A potion for dreamless sleep to help the patient rest because rest is an important part of recovery.”
"Excellent answers," Javier said with an encouraging smile. Replenishing lost blood could literally mean life or death in some situations!

Once he was called on the Hufflepuff shot up from his seat and faced toward the dummy thinking it was the Professor before embarrassingly shifting toward the actual Professor. "W-well sir I decided to go with um..the Skele-Grow potion. It said it it could grow back entire bones, and while that might be painful to grow back an entire bone, like and arm or a leg bone. I think it would be far more useful if say you lost a tooth. So it might be a good potion for say a boxer or a mixed martial artist." What else did he write down? He consulted his parchment before returning his gaze toward the Professor. Nothing else he wrote was as remarkable as the Skele-Grow potion he read up on before his name was called. "I uh..I also said that we should carry ibuprofen to help with the pain of the tooth growing back, and tissues because if your tooth got knocked out you probably have a pretty bloody mouth before taking the potion, and blood probably doesn't make the bad tasting potion taste any better." With that Ywan quickly took his seat and closed his textbook.
"If you're prone to injuries, Skele-Gro could be your best friend," Javier replied with a joking smile at Ywan's answers. He certainly sounded like he had experience in the matter - his tooth loss story had been quite specific, and he couldn't help but wonder if it was based off real events.

So he just made a mental note of that and continued along the line.

"Ah, yes, aloe vera! Very underrated plant, that is," Javier replied to her answer with a smile. Tapio would appreciate that answer, he was sure.

I’d also include a Blood-Replenishing Potion that’s in case of emergencies if a person suffers an injury with a great amount of blood loss.”
Phoenix tears and unicorn hair...again, very expensive tastes, but no doubt effective if needed. "Good answers Miss Nam," Javier replied to Lisa with a smile.

Magical healing… this could come in handy one day. Her mum was a nurse in the muggle world. She had always wanted to be a nurse just like her. But now maybe being a healer would be even better.
Once the activity was assigned the first year got started getting out quill parchment and book. She flipped through the pages looking for healing… any thing to do with healing. She flipped the pages scribbled things down and marked it out. She did this a few times before she satisfied with her answers that she had narrowed down to her three she would present to the class
She added her reasonings just as the presentation of answers started. When it was her to give her answers she stood up so everyone could hear her. She wasn’t even remotely shy, in fact she loved speaking in front of people. ”First I have the calming Draught, not only for the injured persons but for the person who’s giving the care. You have to be calm, cool and collected.” Or at least that’s what her mum says when she’s in a stressful situation at her work. ”Secondly I have Accio, I choose that one because it might be easier and quicker to get exactly what you need and you don’t want to leave the injured person alone.” because minutes counted, another thing her mum said about her job. ”Lastly a Invigoration Draught or Essence of Rue both are used to give you strength and the stronger you are the faster you’ll heal.” Again it was a good thing that she listened to her mum talk about work.
"Good thinking with Accio," Javier nodded at Maisey as he added it to their list. Lots of them were thinking outside the box with their answers, which was pleasing. He HAD told them to get creative, after all!
"Alright everyone - we have quite the list on our hands here!" Javi announced as he turned and gestured towards the blackboard. "You all proved my point, which was that when it comes to healing and first aid, there are MANY things you can use at your disposal. I wouldn't say any one of these items is strictly more important than another. They can all be useful in the right situation," he added.

Curiously, not a single person had mentioned the subject of today's lesson...
"You already named some of them, and there are many more that weren't included on our list, so I ask you - what are some healing potions that exist in our world and what do they do?" he asked. As he'd said, the definition of what was considered a 'healing' potion was broad, so they should all be able to come up with many answers! They could elaborate on some of the ones that they already had on the board as well. They had barely scratched the surface!
OOC: YAYYYY for the mini activity! You guys all had sooo many good answers. You have about 24 hours to answer this question before we move along to the next bit! Remember you guys can consult SS canon potions in the Potions Textbook as well to find answers!

The class certainly had a lot of good answers for this, and Mouse made multiple notes in her potions notebook. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a little magical first aid kit, probably sans the expensive ingredients unless she started to get some summer jobs. She smiled as a younger Slytherin also mentioned a book, glad to hear she wasn't the only one who recognized knowledge as power.
But also... Other healing potions, was it? Mouse chewed on the end of her pen as she flipped through the index in her mind, before her hand raised. "Antillergen, to negate the affects of allergies."

If she had heard his thoughts in regards to the cost of her tastes, she would have grinned and simply implied that her older sister (Maya) had led her astray with her tastes for the more finer things in life. Heh. Speaking of her sister… Lisa looked behind her to see if she was there… Hmm… no sign. Maybe someone was blocking her view of her.
To the next question, Lisa paused thinking through options. Mouse was the first to answer and Lisa nodded at her housemate’s answer. Nice! That was a good, practical one. She shot her a smile paired with an encouraging thumbs up. Then Lisa raised her hand to offer an answer. “The Fever Reducing potion. It… reduces the temperature of the fever.” She avoided the additional niggling comment she thought of that it was rather self explanatory.

If Mercer had feathers to preen, he'd be a fourth year Ravenclaw peacock right now. The professor thought he was creative, he'd gotten a thumbs up from another student, and his ideas were the first ones on the list. Basically, he was a potions genius.
Not one with the right answer for the day, apparently, but still a genius. And no one else got the right answer either. Mercer flipped through his textbook, comparing random pages with the answers already scribbled on the board. Lots of good potions already suggested, and lots that weren't for healing. "Maybe Bruisewort Balm, sir? It fades bruises and heals abrasion. That's pretty good for minor injuries."
Maisey didn't even realize that she was the last to go with the presentations. Definitely saved the best for last. Even got a good job from the professor, too. She thought that everyone had really good answers too, the other older students were really smart like she thought she needed a study session with all of them.
She copied down from the board the things that the professor had added. She put a star next to some of the things that she had written down she would have to look it up later.
Then the lesson was moving on, and now they were talking about specify potions, potions that had not been mentioned yet. So to the book she went again. (first year here) Mmmm interesting, but she had a question too. "What about a Deflating Draft? It's the antidote for a swelling solution, and reduces swelling. Does that mean that it could work for swelling due to an injury too?" If not she didn't have an answer but could just look through her book again.

There were those words again---our world. Nora was very much aware that this was a brand new world for her, and that in the grand scheme of things, she still knew next to nothing about it. As far as healing was concerned, Nora was used to going to a regular medical doctor and getting prescribed an antibiotic if need be. The list of healing potions she knew offhand started at number zero and ended there, too.
...but she could use her textbook, so that's what she was going to do.
The first year pulled out her book and began thumbing through it in search of something about healing potions. Finally, she found a small list, but by that point, most of them had already been listed. There was one on the list that she was almost sure nobody had suggested yet, so she raised her hand. "Would a Sleeping Draught count?" she asked. She wasn't sure if the need for more sleep was what he meant by healing.
The tiniest of smirks crept onto Mia's features, but she kept her gaze down as she jotted some notes. While she knew she should mind her own business, she did find it amusing any time someone gave a repeat answer in classes; she appreciated when others' contributions affirmed that she was not a wholly incompetent first-year. It reinforced her belief that she could keep up with the best of them, see?
There were other potions that came to mind from the Adair-Brown at-home healing kit, plus some she had needed while visiting the Fuller-Thompsons, Aunt CB, the Branxtons, or her nan's - she'd been a reckless, high-energy hellion in her younger years - but she chose a slightly unconventional potion with healing properties that had personal significance to her family. Her granddad's Hogwarts lesson on this one had brought together her mum and Uncle Tobes, after all.
"There's this deep-dark-blue-colored fire-breathing potion - if you blow the fire on someone, it can cure them of some illnesses and heal scars. It makes your mouth feel prickly and tastes really bad," she recalled when she had begged her mum to try it, "and what's worse is you don't actually drink it - you keep a little bit of it in your mouth and when you blow, the fire comes out, and rather than burning people with the flames, it's like..." She visibly shivered. "It's weird. It's warm, but it tickles, which I guess is the healing action going on. But it's cool that something like that can cure the flu." A lot less boring than some other potions, at least.

So many wonderful healing first aid products, but alas as they were in potions class it would make sense to focus on healing potions. Also he had to wonder why one of the most underrated potions - in his mind - hadn't been mentioned yet but Apollo wasn't going to complain.
"Pepperup potion." Was all that he said because well most of them should have heard of if by now and knew of it.

The Hufflepuff grinned at Hernandez, thrilled to know that he had picked one of the man’s favourite Potion. Come on, colds were absolutely the most dreadful and the most inconvenient. It made sense to have it within arm’s reach. As for that list? Indeed it was quite lengthy but filled with so many helpful spells, potions etcetera. He began noting them down. Some notes were also made on today’s main topic - the Healing Potion.
Jude raised his hand and waited to be called upon. “There’s the Wiggenweld Potion. It’s the antidote to the Draught of Living Death as well as the Sleeping Draught. Oh, it also cures injuries.” There was even a tale about a prince using the Potion on a princess so that he’d be able to wake her up from her ages and ages of sleep. So it wasn’t the actual kiss that had awoken her as Muggles thought. Still... it all was kind of romantic.
It felt nice to get a smile out of Prof Hernandez for her list. He especially liked her mentioning of Aloe Vera which they at least always had at home for quick healing of small injuries and the like. Bella took dilligent notes as their Professor spoke and the summarized list of everyone's answered was shown up front. Healing was definitley a broad subject that was for sure. Now they had to just say one healing potion that they know of. There were so many to choose from. Bella did not want to say just one but she supposed she had to settle for one just like her peers. Raising her hand she waited for her turn and then said "Skele-Gro potion, it regrows missing bones and I think it also mends broken bones does it not professor?" Bella then focused on jotting down more notes as the peers around her mentioned other potions that healed or cured certain ailments, injuries, diseases or so on.

It was always a moment full of contradictory feelings when a page became covered in inked doodles. On the one hand, Mitsuki felt a certain sense of accomplishment and often found herself willing the drawings to jump off the page and join her on this plane of existence. On the other hand it meant an ending as well. Any more ink and the distinct figures would bleed into one mass of black ink. Did that mean that the figures were no longer there though? One could usually still see the strokes of the quill when the light hit the parchment just the right way or looked at it from the other side so, technically, the original pieces were still there even if visually it was difficult to distinguish. It was these sorts of inconsequential questions and musings that preoccupied Mitsuki as class continued and Professor Hernandez inquired about healing potions. Her ears did perk a bit at this, eyes briefly flicking from her parchment back to the man and then eventually around the room as hands began to raise and voices spoke their truths.
Pursing her lips in thought, the Ravenclaw turned her parchment over and patted her bag for an inkwell of emerald green ink. Whenever she thought of healing potions, beverages, she often thought of green tea and, when prepared properly with a chawan and chashaku made for the best tasseography. Green tea did have countless health benefits.
Alas, Mitsuki was still too wrapped up in her own world of ink and parchment to properly engaged with class - it was just one of those days, Professor Hernandez ... not your fault - and set to drawing her representation of a Matcha Elixir. She even dripped a bit of green ink on her parchment and used her fingers to smear it over the leaves within the phial. It all would have been so much better with her watercolors, but this would do for now.

Yes, well, Sailor didn't know anything about first-aid beyond treating the scrapes he had as a kid and tried to hide from his parents, so seeking help would be his go-to in much more dire situations. Though Hernandez seemed to agree with his answer, there was no guarantee that the Ravenclaw was going to continue participating in the active discussion. After his turn during the mandatory activity where they had to share, he'd already mentally floated elsewhere.
The times he did remember that he was in class, Sailor simply wrote down whatever a classmate mentioned on his parchment. He deduced they were talking about healing potions from his limited list, since he'd been zoning in and out a couple of times. Deflating draft, Pepperup potion, Wiggenweld potion, Skele-gro. Names he knew the purposes of, though he wasn't in the mood to add to the conversation. There seemed to be enough participants as is, so he didn't feel obliged to speak. Not like he was required to.
Maybe if the injured dummy would move. He was still hopeful it would.
