| | Potions lab Down the end of the potions corridor, past the main classroom and linked to the storeroom, is the potions laboratory. A smaller version of their usual classroom, it’s set up very similarly - lines of benches facing the front, with access to a burner for a cauldron for every pair of chairs. Lining the side walls is storage. In the bottom cupboards you’ll find all the basic equipment, neatly laid out in trays. And on the shelves above can be found the standard potions ingredients. However, if you need anything more specialised, you’ll have to talk to Professor Noble about accessing the storeroom. If you try the door without permission, you’ll find it securely and safely locked; it might even set off a spark or two in warning. At the back of the classroom are a row of sinks and plenty of draining racks. If you use classroom equipment, you’re expected to clean and tidy up after yourselves.
At the front of the room is a sign in book, logbook and list of rules. Before touching anything, please sign in and check the logbook for updates. Professor Noble will regularly be checking, and doesn’t take kindly to unauthorised brewing. There are also several potions books for reference and inspiration. Rules- Sign in with your name, year, house and potion being brewed.
- If you need to leave your station for any reason, leave a note on your desk saying where in the recipe you’ve got up to, and how long you’ll be away. Any unattended potions without this information will be immediately banished.
- Put equipment and ingredients back after use. If you’ve broken something or an ingredient is nearly gone, please make a note in the logbook so I’m aware and can get it replaced.
- If you make a mess, clean it up. I will know, and extra-curricular brewing privileges will be removed for repeat offenders.
- The lab will be open from breakfast and locked an hour before curfew. If you’ll need access outside of this, you will need my prior permission before you start brewing. Please bring me a timetable showing why the potion cannot be completed in normal hours.
- Any questions or problems, please come and find me. I’m most likely to be found teaching in the classroom, or in my office.

Islay Moreau took the time to sign into the lab. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t here to make a potion really – right? Or well...maybe it did. Still, the Gryffindor sixth year got ready to set up her work station and make her potion for the day. Quote:

Magiclense She didn’t just plan to make potions today. No, she was also using this as a reason to do – something...something important and worth points? Wait...what? she just pressed her head into her hand and rubbed as she put her cauldron on one of the tables. Grabbing her tin of wooden spills, she just set things up so she could eventually light the burner. For now though, she was simply putting the flat newt on the stool with a stirrer in his hand and taking a picture. There. Perfect. Tucking the polaroid into her notebook she took the time to put Newt away and get to work.
Right. Magiclense.
She could do this, she was going to make cleansing products so she could clean all of her potions tools more easily...well, that and she could maybe make ones for hands and other things too. Taking out her potions kit she took out a garlic clove, the vial of bundimun secretion, a crocodile eye...disgusting really, the tine of powdered cockroach and a lemon.
Filling her cauldron with water from the tap she placed it by the burner – before lighting her wooden spill with a nearby candle and using that to ignite her burner. FWOOSH. Brilliant. Placing the cauldron over the lit burner she checked the levels and waited a bit for the water to come to a boil. While waiting she took her knife and crushed the garlic clove before adding it into the liquid. Putting the knife down she put on her dragon hide gloves, unstoppered her bundimun secretion and added just one drop. Taking a clean knife she sliced the crocodile eye adding it into the liquid before stirring the concoction once clockwise and then three times anti-clockwise. She watched as the concoction simmered before she added in the powdered cockroach. Ah, brilliant this was going to be good. Taking her lemon she placed it into the concoction and watched as its color somewhat changed....it didn’t look as amazing as it would have otherwise but like – this would work right? She could clean with this...or would like it just make a gaint mess.
Still, the gryffinor simply bottled the potions and labeled them before cleaning out her cauldron and her supplies. Seeeee, she just wanted to see if it worked and maybe it would. If not at least Newt looked cool in his photograph.
