Default Office of Professor Noble

As you enter Professor Noble’s office, the first thing you’ll notice is that it’s utilitarian rather than decorative. Three walls are covered in shelves, two almost groaning at the weight of books on them, and the other housing a number of obscure potions ingredients and equipment. The fourth wall only lacks shelves due to the fireplace. The mantle is sparse, save for a gold wind up clock covered with a glass dome in the centre. A bright fire burns within the grate, a small copper cauldron suspended over it with a spatula self-stirring a mysterious liquid merrily bubbling away.

Of the other furniture, the large wooden desk dominates the room, for the most part covered in various academic books and papers interspersed with a few lesson plans and piles of student work for marking. The only corner not to be covered in paperwork holds a coffee pot and two photo frames, the only evidence of Ignatius’ family. The first contains a torn and tatty picture of a young girl, Professor Noble’s step-daughter, proudly knelt down in her cricket kit, still wearing her pads, and holding her bat. The second photo is clearly much more recent, where Abigail has flourished into a beautiful young lady. A pride comes into Professor Noble’s eyes when he looks at it. It was on her suggestion that he applied for the job at Hogwarts.

While most of the furniture appears mainly functional, the chairs are the exception. Upholstered in an elaborate orange-gold fabric, with detailed carved dark wooden legs, both his own chair and the two for his guests are exquisite pieces in their own right. If Professor Noble has offered you one, do make yourself comfortable - they’re charmed to be just the right amount of cushioned.

Default Set after Potions Lab post
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy needed to urgently speak with her Head of House/Potions Professor regarding what she had encountered. She had her notebook in her hand as she quickly made her way to Professor Noble's office. Daisy knew Professor Noble had an open door policy but she still knocked on the door. This was due to what had happened recently and the Hufflepuff Prefect was determined to make things right.

Noble was crouched down hidden behind his desk, looking for his personal annotated copy of a Beginner's Guide to Alchemy on the bookshelf. He could have sworn he'd gotten it out ready for class, but after disrupting the piles of paperwork several time on his desk, it was still nowhere to be found. Had he left it in the lab, maybe?

He stood up just as that knock came, and his gaze moved to the open door and the prefect standing there. "Daisy, do come in." He picked up the mug of coffee on his desk and took a long sip, still perplexed by the missing book. "What can I do for you?"

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy entered Professor Noble's office and retrieved her notebook. "Hello, Professor. I decided to have a look at the Potions Laboratory after the Polyjuice Potion incident in order to work out what had been removed from the laboratory. I noticed that a vast amount of phials have disappeared." She showed Noble the notebook, listing her findings.

She continued. "Well, it has come to my realisation that the ingredients for the Polyjuice Potion aren't standard so maybe more ingredients have been taken, not just those to create a batch or two of Polyjuice Potion. I thought you should know."

Daisy paused, remembering when she had recently visited the Library. "I also seem to recall that a whole bunch of books have vanished when I went to the Library but there's no record who has borrowed them."

The Prefect looked at Noble rather worryingly.

Sensing that this perhaps wasn't going to be a short meeting, Noble slipped into his chair, and gestured for Daisy to do the same. "I appreciate your efforts," he said, taking the notebook to look through, but not having actually glanced down the list yet. "But I highly doubt the students involved brewed the polyjuice potion here at school themselves, and many of the ingredients need special permission from me to access." No-one had approached him asking for boomslang skin or bicorn horn, and even after many, many remedial lessons, Zoryn Spinnet's brewing skills were woefully inattentive; there was no way she'd have the patience to wait a month. Having purchased it in advanced over the summer would make much more sense.

Although confusion crossed Noble's face as he did finally look down at the list. "When you say disappeared...you mean you couldn't find any lacewing flies, fluxweed, knotgrass or leeches?" All were common enough ingredients, the knotgrass even easily obtainable on the grounds. So for so much to disappear was suspicious, especially when he'd checked the logbook and supplies the previous evening. He pursed his lips, tapping them thoughtfully. "That's curious indeed." Irrelevant to the polyjuice incident, but something that needed investigating.

As for the books? Noble didn't look too concerned. "I suggest you talk to the librarian about the missing books. It's probably just someone conveniently forgetting to sign them out for their homework." It was selfish, but it happened.

Default Set after the Charms incident
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy promptly sat down and when Noble mentioned his doubt, she immediately spoke as soon as he was finished.

"Actually, there were students who used Polyjuice Potion to disguise themselves as Slytherin Prefect Maxton during Charms class. Most of them were Gryffindors, led by Miss Spinnet, I believe. The Headmaster had a firm talking to me and my fellow Prefects. We were given the choice to hand over our badges or act as a Prefect should."

When Professor Noble asked Daisy about the disappearing ingredients, she replied with, "I used the Summoning Charm and not even an empty phial, nor a tiny piece of the ingredient could be retrieved."

"I'll talk to the librarian but I've heard that other things have disappeared. My feeling is that this incident might have something to do with that pink mutant creature that I believe is owned by....Toddles, I think."

She bit her lip and gave her Head of House a look of despair.

"I'm well aware there were." He was pretty sure the whole school knew by now, apart from the fact he'd been called to the Headmaster's office after the incident to watch the potion wear off. "I'm saying that it's unlikely any of the perpetrators brewed it here, or that they raided the school stores to do it." He was glad, however, that she was taking her responsibilities seriously.

As for those missing vials? Noble nodded. "Thank you for letting me know. I'll look into it." He needed to take a full catalogue that was missing, and should probably give a reminder in classes over the next few days that the lab was a privilege, and its resources were not to be abused.

Noble now looked blankly as Daisy continued, things not really making sense. "Toddles' what?" A mutant creature? What even was that supposed to mean? "You know all of us are technically mutants, right? That's why we all differ slightly from our parents and siblings." The word had become horribly misused in common culture. And even if there was such a creature, what was the link between potions ingredients and books?

Daisy tore off the piece of parchment that had the information about the missing ingredients and handed it to Professor Noble. "You can have that, sir. Anything to help."

Daisy nodded when Noble mentioned Toddles. "Well, the creature made its' presence known at the Start of Term Feast. It visited every house table, I think. I know it definitely visited the Hufflepuff table. I think I heard Toddles mention something called 'his Fluffsies' which does match the description of the creature. It is small, pink and fluffy with two small horns and fangs. Hold on a moment..."

Daisy grabbed her notebook and quill and drew a picture of the creature and showed it to Professor Noble.
