Escapism is probably the biggest reason I love HP

Post Why am I a Harry Potter fan?

I think my very first introduction to Harry Potter was an old, dusty VHS tape of the first film. it's hard to remember because i was so little but i know we must have bought it in that little value village a few blocks down from our house. I loved the film and couldn't get enough of it. eventually, over time, we collected the first few movies on vhs at the value village until we could afford a dvd player, and then eventually we had several different versions of each of the films on DVD. more recently, we got the fancy schmancy box set, and now i have all the films + their special features! I only actually own the first two books though. one very well loved copy of the philosopher's stone which i've also had since I was little, and a newer copy of prisoner of askaban, that i got in middle school for a birthday which I later sat on and bent the cover of. I actually don't remember how I got chamber of secrets. weird. anyways, long story short is that I got super into it when i was little through coincidence and being too poor to afford the modern children's entertainment of the time and am now as a result still super into it. that, and my discovery of fanfiction in early middle school certainly helped (and still does help) boost my love of the franchise.

My work friends were all ga-ga about HP but no one pointed a wand at me and made me read it. I was caught up in sci-fi. Then I watched the first movie and was hooked. I'm probably a bigger fan than they are now. ironic

I like the real ness of it. She who must not be named (no hate but I am human and have my own opinions) did a very good job at creating the magical world to have such a humanness to it. It’s not all fake and plastic there is actual real life struggles mixed in

As a forty-something I was late to the party with HP. As a kid, I gravitated to the worlds of Star Wars, Indiana Jones and James Bond because the films took me places I could not go in real life - they were an exotic world of intrigue and wonder that were a million miles away from my life as a school kid! Revisiting the HP films with my kids I can tap into that same feeling and share it with them: to lose yourself in a fantasy domain of magic.

I love the Harry Potter books, they give a great flight of fancy, sinking into them I literally fly away from reality. There are no words to express the whole gamut of emotions!

When I was younger my dad took me shopping and as we walked past the book section, he mention that he heard good things about this book and I should give it a go. After that, I was hooked, I couldn't wait until the next books were released, I remember standing out the front of the bookshops on the first day waiting in line.

With the movies I have a good friend who loves Harry Potter as well and we started a tradition, that we would go see the new Harry Potter movie on the first day together. Fast forwarded to 2011 and we were in our early twenties and she moved over 5 hours away but we still keep that tradition alive and watched the last Harry Potter movie together.

I like being able to imagine that i'm really going to a wizard school and I think these books make it really easy to imagine that. Its all very magical which I think is awesome.

I grew up watching the movies and after years of people telling me to read the books, I did! I knew I liked the story because I liked the movies, but I was delighted by how great the books are. Rowling does a great job building the wizarding world, I love discovering new things and being fascinated by the way magic is used in this series. Excellent characters and a great story with deep themes, like death and love.

My younger brother started reading the books and my parents were impressed with him. So, in older sibling fashion, I had to one-up him. I read them too and fell in love! It’s so easy to get lost in the magic and the alternate world.
