Which do you prefer, the films or the books?
And why?

Both hold special places in every Potterhead's heart, but which do you prefer? Do you enjoy revisiting Hogwarts on paper in the original 7 novels written by J.K Rowling or as a feast for the eyes in the 8 screen adaptions? Let us know and why!

I prefer the books up until Goblet of fire but I prefer the movies from Order of the Phoenix.
It may be have been because of my age when that book came out, but I found it long and boring to the point that it put me off reading the rest of the series >.<;

I prefer the books to the movies because the movies left out a lot of important details, IMO.

I definitely prefer the books. There's a lot more content and depth. The movies are a fun watch though.

I prefer the books over the movie because when I read the books I imagined all of these details in my head but than in the movies, it was totally different than I thought it was.

I prefer the films I think simply because I can watch them all in one epic marathon. Where as the books are a bit harder to enjoy as a marathon for me.

I will always prefer the books to the films. There are certain things that are explained better (visually) in the movies, sure--well, it is a film--but overall, the books (the original material) is the best. It saddens me, sometimes, when people don't recognize a character by their book's description and instead immediately go for the movie actor. Granted I do have some exceptions (but only because some of these characters were very well cast).
There is just something about following it in the book, than watching it on film. If you allow yourself to become lost in the haze of its words, I feel like you'll become a legitimate part of the world. If you are immersed in the pages, you could hear it all, smell it all, see it all, really.
Not to mention the fact that you get a lot more from the story by reading the books, than the movies (which tend to mutilate a fantastic plot).

If I had to choose between the books or the movies, I would choose the books because of the memories. I went to midnight release parties for the last three books. I would spend all day and all night reading them, completely immersed in Hogwarts. My family would joke that I would disappear for a week after a new Harry Potter book came out. But, I must admit that I enjoy the social aspect of watching the movies. I love to spend a Saturday afternoon on a rainy day watching a Harry Potter movie, or a Harry Potter marathon on tv.

Books, hands down! While I loved the films, the books were so special to me. I felt like I really grew up with the characters as I read their story. JKR really took me to places I'd never been before in things I'd read, and the series really inspired me to become the avid reader I am now. I loved seeing everything in my mind's eye as I read the pages.

I prefer the films because I was first introduced to the series through the first two films... also because of my ADHD I often have trouble focusing on books vs movies (though, oddly, audio books are harder for me to focus on than written ones - I get sidetracked working on something and tend to stop listening and my mind wanders - then when it comes back I've missed too much, lol).

Yeah, it's gotta be the books for me. While I have some nostalgia for the movies, there's much less appeal otherwise, and I really dislike how they handled Ron's character, which I find makes them particularly unbearable when it comes to later rewatches now that I'm an adult.

Please everyone, say books. I've had trouble with the movies, too dark the later ones especially, as in they're not Disney magic full of colour. I guess I'm Disney more than regular non-Disney movies.

I prefer the book more. I have always been a bookworm and with books I van imagine the characters however I want. Although, I also love the movies and the last time I read the books the characters looked like the actors.

Moo Spork? SPORKY SPORKY!!

I definitely love the movies, and technically how I started into the HP world, but I will always love the books more, they give you so much to grow on with each character.

I personally loved the books more because there's so much more information that they didn't add (or couldn't) in the movies.

I love the books so much and I love when I find the time to be able to sit down and properly read them. However as a busy 25 year old the movies allow me to relive the magic in a shorter time span so I have to go with films

I think the books are better because it takes more time to read which means you can spend more time in the wizarding worl .Not only that but it's more detailed.

I prefer the films, actually. I just like seeing what's going on instead of trying to visualize it in my mind all the time.

I prefer the books because my friend and I read them first. We traded the books back and forth and discussed them together at sleep overs and I remember begging her to tell me spoilers because she was ahead of me in reading. I think all that quality time with my friend really cemented the books as a fond memory for me

BOOKS 100%. They are more interesting, funny and so many crucial moments were left out of the films as much as I enjoy them. Sometimes it's hard to follow the films if you haven't read them.

I prefer the Books and long story short the movies just don't have as much substance or continuity or plot-driven material as the movies.

I'd easily say I prefer the books, maybe because I'm not big movie fan in general, but also because the books include so much more information about the wizarding world, background characters, and provide more character development than the movies do.

I prefer the books mostly because when I am reading anything I enjoy adding in my own mind certain things that might be going on in the background.
