Default Wand Fitting

Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you.

In front of the counter there is the empty space that is designated as the fitting area. Here is where wands are fitted. After being measured by the magical measuring tape, you will be assisted by a worker who will then endeavor to fit you with your perfect wand and start pulling boxes from the shelves, which stretch back impossibly far and up so high that even the tallest people have to tip their head back to see the tops.

Long sliding ladders are attached to every stretch of shelves, and the wandmakers make great use of these to reach those wands which are tucked away high up. There seems to be a filing system of sorts, some kind of method to the madness, though most of the boxes are unmarked. Is it a colour code? Or is it shape? size? smell? Something else? Well you'll never know unless you get a job here. Luckily, and out of sheer necessity, these shelves have been bespelled so that wandboxes are not in danger of flying everywhere due to errant spells cast by children wielding their new wands.

Text Cut: Wand Fitting Instructions - PLEASE READ FIRST!
Instructions

⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for the character who is here for a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "magical measuring tape" ONCE in this thread; this serves as our queue. This thread is where the entire wand fitting process and transaction will be RPed, so please refrain from excessive back-and-forth interactions with characters other than the shopkeeper, so we can keep things running as smoothly as possible.

See the example post below, or look at other posts in this thread from previous terms.

Text Cut: Example Post
Jessica went into Ollivanders with more than her share of nerves, it was time for her first wand! The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. Soon enough the measuring tape reached her and began zipping about, straightening with a snap and measuring out her height and, when she held her arms out, she watched it take a measurement of how long they were too. Fun! Did that mean her wand would be as big as her whole arm?

The girl stepped away from the measuring area and she eagerly waited for the shopkeeper to find her wand.

⌦ Please take the SORTING QUIZ first and wait to be placed in your house before taking the wand quiz! Your house effects your final wand in our quiz! This goes for current members who are re-sorting too, though you may take the quiz in advance if you know what your new house will be.

⌦ You may role play the magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeeper(s). Ollivander does not work here!

⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for a shop worker to assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You must RP to get your character's wand if they are purchasing it during the summer period.

⌦ Please do not stretch the wand fitting experience out too long, it should not take more than three tries at an absolute maximum to find your character's match.

⌦ If we run out of time to complete the RP with you by the end of the RP summer, we will PM your wand result to you, provided you have posted in this thread and responded to our efforts to interact with you.

⌦ If you would like a wand sorted for a character who would have already purchased their wand in the past (for example, if you make a character who is older than an incoming first year) you are welcome to fill out the wand quiz for that character. Remember to leave a note in the additional information box explaining the situation, and asking for the wand results in a PM.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM Felixir and he'll try to answer your questions as quickly and efficiently as he can.

⌦ Have fun!

On the contrary, she had learned the 'tender hand on shoulder with a marginal look of sympathy' thing.

"The first wand I ever tried gave me the shock of my life--literally. I'd have said, but I didn't wanna scare you. These things happen so often, I'd be surprised if you got it on the first go." She tried, her tone hopefully enough of an indication that this was a part of life and not at all as serious as he probably thought it was.

"Scorched my hand proper. That one you just tried was at least nice enough to not try leaving marks."

Lex nodded to the new wand being offered up to little Ed, half hoping she hadn't just jinxed the boy with her story. "Give it a go. We can take all day if it's what you need."

She doubled down on the look of patience, wanting him to understand there was truly no pressure.

Edric had to keep his brimming eyes downcast as long as possible so no one would see how sad he was. Couldn't show emotion. Simply couldn't do it. He wouldn't look weak in front Auntie Lexa, even if the wand man and his family member were being as kind as possible to him. This was just a novel experience, okay.

He shook his head, eyes on the floor, but he was still listening to the adults trying to build him up. With a big sniffle, he nod-shrugged to the wand man and stepped forward to pick up the next offering. It wasn't going to work, he could tell already, but he was going to do it nonetheless. Just so the adults wouldn't have their feelings hurt again.

Edric gave the wand a small wave, which was actually a big wave, but not to him, and a load of fireworks shot out the end of it. WHAT! There was a sparkler, a bird of fire, maybe it was a phoenix or an eagle, who knows, maybe a hippogriff... they were all there. And Ed was entranced. His blue eyes were filled with wonder as he held his wand loosely in his hand and stared open-mouthed at the amazing scene in front of him.

Was this his wand?

He was too amazed for words, though one kept popping to the forefront of his mind: Magic.

For her own sake a little for Ed's, too Lex hoped this was the wand. Much as she said it was fine if they stayed there all day...if each rejection from the wands tore this kid down more and more, there would be nothing left of him by the time he did find his wand. She'd have a kid who hated magic on her hands and she already had one who hated quidditch, thanks.

She thought to have a 'word' with the wand man, see if she could get him to hand over a wand that generally picked anyone that held it, but in the next second there was fireworks and...

uh....

"It's not this one." Nope. Eagles flying out of wands were always a bad omen. This one? It tried prophesying Edric to be a Ravenclaw and if that wasn't enough to send him back to her grandparents--alright not really but Merlin was she il-prepared for any inkling of....shudder Ravenclawisms.

Alexa gingerly reached over to take the wand from Ed and offered it back to the man. "Don't suppose you have any that shoot lions--or snakes. I suspect they'd like that better actually. No...no badgers." Nothing personal, just....they'd never had a Hufflepuff Cambridge and there wasn't a single one of them looking to start now. "We'll find you a brilliant wand." She assured him, still nudging the wand back to the man.

Take it, SIR.

Zeke watched the boy as he tried out the wand, arms folded and chin held in one hand, eyes flicking from his face to those little sparks. Hmm.

"Depends on how it felt for you. More often than not, someone will know when they've found the right wand." Zeke thought maybe that wasn't the case; he'd not noticed the tell-tale signs, and the magic produced, while certainly present, hadn't been what he usually expected from a perfect match. He considered the other two boxes he'd already grabbed, pulled out the one from the bottom of the little stack, and offered the wand inside that one instead. "Would you like to give this one a try? We can see if it suits you any better." Could be the first one was the right one, but it didn't hurt to have a point of comparison either way.
"My day's going well too, thanks for asking." Boy, being brought up in an upper class French household certainly did wonders for your manners. "How exactly are wands made?" Even though he had decided to keep in the questions before, Alfred just couldn't handle the curiosity and decided to fire away. If he hadn't, instead of curiosity killing the cat, it might have metaphorically killed him.

He placed the first wand on the counter in front of him and took the second one. "I... didn't really feel anything." He grasped the wand firmly and gave it a much softer swish as compared to the hard flick he gave the first one. This time, it was golden sparks that came out. And they much bigger, brighter ones than the emerald ones produced by the first wand. They were even greater in number. The sparks circled him before disappearing into thin air a few seconds later. It felt magnificent. "I'm sure this is the one." If it wasn't, what was?

Zeke hadn't missed how often this kid turned to check in with the man who'd accompanied him (father? maybe, he didn't make assumptions), and found it endearing. Sweet. While the boy was preoccupied by the wands, Zeke glanced towards the man who came with him, and offered him a smile too.

An interesting question the kid had there, but one Zeke was prepared for.

"'Best' is subjective, with wands. The best one for you will be the one that chooses you, so, with any luck, you'll be able to tell me that." But Zeke did see what he was getting at, and was perfectly willing to give him a straightforward answer there too. "In terms of what they're made from, there isn't a best one; some are more expensive than others because acquiring the material is a bit more difficult, or because of their reputation, but that doesn't necessarily speak to its quality. I can assure you they were all made with the utmost care and attention, if that helps at all." And he wasn't even blowing his own trumpet there - well, maybe just a little - because many of the wands in Ollivanders had been made by the wandmakers who had worked here over the years, and at least one of those on the counter was very likely on the older side.

Or THREE.

Hassan would like his children to outnumber him greatly.

In the time that it took his mind to wonder and then find its way him, Jasper had been mid-conversation with the wand keeper, three wands present in front of him. It WAS extremely endearing that his son wanted to be everything that Hassan was, but the older Botros knew he wasn’t perfect and wanted so much better for his son. Maybe he didn’t want to play quidditch (blasphemous!) and decided to practice medicine or teach. He would need a wand suited for those things. Or at least have a powerful sidekick.

“Jasper,” Hassan had let the wand keeper say his piece and then knelt beside his mini me. “Bud, think of your wand like your broom. We had it customized to fit you specifically and fly to your abilities. Your wand is similar to that except it was created for you at all ages - young and old like me - so it doesn’t need more customization. Your wand will be your greatest companion and you’ll both learn each other. You’ll use it for battles or cooking or fixing things. But it’ll only be yours, so you see, it can’t be better than another wand. Not all wands serve the same purpose just like all brooms don’t fly the same or all baba’s don’t behave the same.” Sadly, they all couldn’t be the cool dad such as himself. “Don’t worry about which wand is the best, focus instead on which wand feels like it was made just for you.”

He ruffled Jas’ hair fondly and then stood up, giving him an encouraging smile. He hoped that would make this easier for Jasper, less stressful. He didn’t want his son disappointed on what should be a memorable day.

Jasper’s big, brown eyes moved from looking at the man behind the counter to looking at his dad as he listened to them each take turns answering his question. While the wandmaker’s explanation was very thorough, it wasn’t until his baba spoke that Jasper really began to understand. He nodded slowly, his face breaking out into a small smile when Hassan drew a comparison between wands and babas. "Hehe," he lifted his shoulders, smiling extra in reaction to all the hair ruffling. Okay, he felt a lot better now. Less concerned with bests and betters, at least.

”Okay, I’m ready now!” he paused, reaching up to fix his hair (or at least to get it out of his face). With the three options of wands before him, he eagerly reached for the one in the middle, offering a bright smile to the wandmaker and then, in turn, to his baba. Positioning himself in what he thought to be a really cool stance, Jasper held the wand out before him (just like he’d seen his baba do countless times over) and gave it a mighty and confident flourish. The wand didn’t seem to like this very much, and as a result of its displeasure, sent Jasper bounding backwards onto his bum with a loud
PUH!________________
and sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid him all the way over to the shop’s exit.

Oooft.

Feeling a little embarrassed, he jumped up quickly and began brushing off his clothes and fixing his hair. ”Can I try one of the other ones?” he asked almost urgently, ducking his head and quickly making his way back up to the counter, trying to sound very grown up and not like a kid who was just knocked onto the ground by his potential wand. Hopefully baba wouldn’t tell this part to mum and Margaret. Some things needed to stay between the boys.

The wands were often like errant children until the moment they had chosen their owner. Sometimes even after that, but again, it really depended on the wand. Much like people.

But yes, another option it was. Plenty to try, and Zeke was a man of infinite patience, particularly where fitting wands was concerned.

Zeke beamed at the girl. If the display hadn't given them their answer, her enthusiastic declaration certainly did. "You did it perfectly." Not that she'd messed up the first time, but they were past that now. "This is the one; it chose you. Congratulations." And now he had a whole spiel ready for her. Not to be a giant wand nerd or anything, but Zeke liked this part just as much as the fitting itself.

"This wand is eleven and a half inches of rigid English oak, with a jobberknoll feather core. A particularly loyal wand wood, which matches with the loyal, strong, and courageous owner. You may find you have a natural affinity with creature and plant magic, and oak itself is well-suited to protective and defensive magic, so Defence Against the Dark Arts could end up being one of your strengths." Always useful, when the wand was good for a core subject. Zeke's own wand had similar properties, which came in handy at school even if he'd never pursued the subject later on. Uh. Anyway. Moving on. "Jobberknoll feather wands are excellent for use in brewing potions, and you may find charms will flow well with this wand. Non-verbal magic as well, but that's something to keep in mind for later; they'll not be teaching you that for a few years."

He started to ring the wand up, and brought the girl's attention to the price board with a gesture of his hand. "On its own, the wand will be 10 galleons. Can I get you anything else today?"

_________

[11½ inch rigid English oak with jobberknoll feather]

Remy chuckled at the thought of wands being troublemakers. It was quite a concept to even believe that they had the ability to choose its user. Since she suddenly started to feel empathy for the wand she was about to receive, Remy spoke her thoughts out loud. "May I buy some wand polish as well, please? I want to make sure my wand is extra happy." And that it doesn't misbehave for her. Plus she would feel pretty darn special if she had a shiny wand because she doubted anyone else would go to that much effort. She glanced back quickly to her mum who was squinting her eyes to try and catch the conversation. Ahhhhhh, she wouldn't mind.

The blonde did a little jump while maintaining the cheesiest grin as her wand had CHOSEN her. It was a very exhilarating moment, one she'd remember forever! Remy tried to stand still when the shopkeeper explained all of the details about her wand, and taking mental notes of all of the qualities that could help her in school. Defence Against the Dark Arts. GASP, she was going to be an AUROR one day with this wand.

"It's so cool! Thank you!" She fumbled in her bag to find the 10 galleons. She counted them one at a time and placed them onto the counter. She looked up at the price board to see how much the polish was. 1 galleon, 8 sickles. Remy carefully plucked those out of her bag, too, and placed them onto the counter. "That's everything, I think." She didn't THINK she needed anything else.

His own wonder at the time he had been fitted with a wand had been thoroughly tempered by external influences, and then there were magical children who often seemed like they were seeing everything for the first time. You really couldn't be sure.

And, given recent events, Zeke had tried veering from even thinking about who might be from what magical background. Naturally.

He looked at the board too, though he knew the whole thing by heart. "I'd recommend a holster - wrist is probably best while you're at school, you'd just need to tell me the material you want." And colour, of course, if leather. "Wand polish is a good idea too." Neither was strictly needed, but accessories were nice to have, and it would be bad for business if Zeke didn't recommend products here and there. At least he didn't take liberties; those were useful items, and commonly bought with a first wand.

If Alfie was older, and a bit more cynical, he might be more wary about asking a shopkeeper for advice because clearly they would just want to sell more of their product. But he was 11, and overwhelmingly optimistic, and had inherently trusted this man since the moment he knew he was going to sell him his wand. So he nodded along with rapt attention as he listed the items he would need.

"Okay. I'll get a... leather wrist holster. In black. And some wand polish." His parents had come up behind him now, and he glanced at them for confirmation. They agreed, and his mum produced the bag of coins they had acquired from the fancy bank earlier.

Zeke was smiling again even before the girl's declaration. Yes, it was hers, that was clear to see. Always wonderful to witness a match (always extremely satisfying to get it right first time, even if narrowing down the options could be a fun little puzzle). "Yes it is," he agreed. Payment pending, of course, but that hadn't been a problem in the shop so far. "Congratulations. And beautiful magic there." These displays often were, but still, it was worth mentioning.

And now, the details. Zeke cleared his throat, made sure to speak clearly enough for the girl and her accompanying adults to hear him. "The wand you've matched with is eleven and three quarter inches of unyielding ash, with a core of firecrab shell. Ash lends itself well to healing and protection spells, and wands of this wood will not tolerate being passed along to a new owner without losing power and skill; it clings stubbornly to its true owner. This tendency adds to its prestige - only those who had matched with an ash wand can truly master it." And boy had Zeke seen his fair share of wizards demanding their own ash wands over the years. It was just one of those attractive options, in terms of reputation. "Now, the firecrab core makes this a wand that's suited to practically any type of magic, though try not to let it overheat, or you might find it bursting into flames at the least opportune times." Nothing to worry about if she was sensible with it. "A firecrab shell wand will bond so strongly to its owner that it may burn the fingers of anyone who attempts to steal it. Fire spells naturally work very well with this core, whereas it might take more work to master ice or water spells. However, the wood here has a water affinity, and that usually helps counteract that particular property, so you may find that this isn't such a problem for you."

Aaand breathe. Zeke began to ring up the wand, gesturing towards the price board as he did so. "That's 10 galleons for the wand by itself. Anything else I can get for you today?" This part he still addressed to the girl, but glanced towards the adults present at the same time, in case they wanted to put a limit on any transactions.

If there was such thing as death by pride, Seth would be a widow. Jk, no. Peyton wasn't going anywhere, but the PRIDE she felt right now...it was like no other. It was nothing compared to her wins with the Falmouth Falcons. It wasn't compared to anything. This is what a wizard aspired to be present for after their child's birth. For their child's first wand. It was beautiful, her little girl was.

Dabbing the corner of her eye, she squeezed her husband's hand. "A little nervous," Peyton replied softly. "She's already a force to handle without a wand." It will all be okay, though. If Serena was anything like Seth, she wouldn't end up in Azkaban. "She needs a sturdy holster," she whispered only for Seth's ear. They both knew their daughter and her tendencies.

Did her parents SEE what just happened?! She BONDED with a WAND. SERENA BALTAZAR-DOS SANTOS HAS A WAND.

Ahem.

After her parents pitched in for it, of course. Serena had been saving up. Lots of knuts and sickles and some galleons left over from birthday gifts and other holiday presents. It gave her a sense of independence and power to be able to pay things on her own. In this case, partially. Serena had a spending problem.

When the man started on her wand, Serena hung to his every word and nodded here and there, understanding what he was saying. Her wand was amazing. And it was hers. ALL hers. Ugh, ugh. She loved it already. "I will keep all of that in mind," she said with a firm nod of her head. Her impeccable memory was going to be put to use. She glanced at her parents again and shot then a childish grin and wave.

Hold up. She was still doing business here. "I'd also like a holster." She paused, already having a hunch of what the answer was. "Are the dragon holsters made out of real dragon hide?" She was going to DIE if he said yes. If so, did HE kill the dragons? If soooo, she'd have to jab him with her new wand. T__T

Seth let out a quiet chuckle, ”don’t worry she’ll do just fine.” He was very sure of his parenting skills and, by now, was confident that NOTHING slips by his attention. In time the proud father would teach his daughter the value of power and the responsibility of wielding such beauty.

A smile of both pride and love grew on Seth’s face when Serena turned her attention to them, it was a feeling he couldn’t put his finger on. This girl was special, already outshining the rest of the prosperous students here and Seth believed so dearly his baby will be destined for greatness. Mark his words!

Oh still not done, Seth had no problem funding his family’s shopping habits, it was just too cute watching Serena ask for a holster. He saw so much of his wife in her. ”Just like you.” He murmured to Peyton suppressing laughter.

With strict instructions from her father, Olive stepped into the wand shop. It was even more magical than she could've imagined. She could see tell all the other first years apart from the others. They were the ones with their parents or older siblings, quiet and a few steps back from the group.

Unlike the others, Ollie was sent on her own. Her father knew she could handle herself and sent her with the appropriate funds. She knew she could handle herself, too. Right? At least she would have to... unless she wanted to disappoint her father.

But now she was even more nervous than her journey to get here. This was the first stop on her list. This makes her Hogwarts journey real. And boy was she excited.

Alas, it was her turn. She smiled as she stepped towards the counter. "Um... Hello. I'm here to purchase a wand."

Ollie listened and followed directions carefully as she was measured by the magical measuring tape. There were only a few times she got distracted trying to understand the magic, so it was a win in her book.

The wand didn’t seem to like this very much, and as a result of its displeasure, sent Jasper bounding backwards onto his bum with a loud

and sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid him all the way over to the shop’s exit.

Zeke stood patiently by through this explanation. While he was the wandmaker, with his years of experience and know-how in the subject, he wasn't the boy's father(? it seemed more and more likely that that was who had accompanied him). Most kids listened to the adults they knew well rather than an expert - there was trust there, familiarity, rapport, an understanding of how to explain things in the best way that suited them. Mind you, Zeke had also seen a handful of kids who went in completely the opposite direction, and totally shut down their parents' opinions in favour of what he had to say. It could get... awkward.

Anyway. Not the case today, and it was on to the wand testing. Zeke smiled at the boy as he-...

... oh. Well... yes, that could... that could happen sometimes.

Zeke was about to ask if he was alright after that tumble, but when the boy sprang back to his feet and tried to act as though nothing had happened, he figured it was a better idea to simply play along for the sake of the kid's pride. Didn't see anything of the sort. Nope. Not him.

"Of course," Zeke said, looking between the two others he'd placed on the counter before nudging forward the one on the right hand side. His right, the boy's left. "May I suggest this one?" He didn't specify why, but it had plenty to do with that first, ah... display.

She’d have to come back to ask him more questions later.

And Zeke had found her the perfect wand!! Lisa beamed at the man as he congratulated her and then he divulged into all of the nitty gritty details (which LISA WAS LIVING FOR!!). The level of detail and the interpretation associated with them was so... so INVIGORATING and INSPIRING. She just wanted to HEAR more. Gimme just a little bit moooooore, she hummed in tiny. “WOW. That’s amazing how much you can learn about someone through a wand or learn through the wand that chooses them. Much cooler than lightsabers. Thank you.” Once again, the involuntary bouncing had started again and she just couldn’t WAIT until she showed it to her whole family AND V AND SKEWER BOY AND ASH AND MORE FRIENDS!!

As the Shopkeeper rang in the items, Lisa looked up at the other purchasing options before settling on a couple. “Could I get a wrist holster and wand polish too please?” She stopped mid sentence as she read the title of a book and immediately wanted to read it. “Aaand could I get a copy of The Will.... The Word ... and the Wand : A Com..... Compendium... wow that’s a big fancy word.... a Compendium of British Wandlore by Ira Banner?” she paused, catching her breath before quickly adding. “ Please?

Zeke gave a little chuckle. In his (terribly unbiased of course) opinion, he had to agree that wands really were much cooler than lightsabers. There was no doubt a spell that made them function as such too. "Wands can potentially reveal a lot about a person, it's true." Many people he knew opted not to reveal the details of their wands for that reason, while others didn't mind. Some wands told more than others, but Zeke still felt he was in a position of trust, in his position.

"What kind of wrist holster would you like? Leather?" he asked the girl, taking a small tub of wand polish from one of the display shelves and setting it on the counter. "The books aren't for sale, I'm afraid, they're on loan to the shop. I don't sell books at the moment." He'd be changing that soon; it was a missed business opportunity, and there was no reason to dissuade people from researching the subject further if they were interested. Anyone could go elsewhere and pay for the texts, may as well have some on offer here. Maybe after the big rush, he would start making some changes along those lines.

The book she'd asked for might be a little heavy in content too, and maybe on the expensive side for that reason, though Zeke opted not to say as much. "If you're interested in researching, though..." Drawing his notebook from his pocket, Zeke quickly but neatly jotted down several introductory titles and their authors, plus exactly where the Compendium itself might be ordered from, as it was unlikely to be found in Flourish and Blotts. Second time he'd done that this summer, so yes, changes were definitely coming.

Pulling the page out of his notebook, Zeke handed it over for the girl to take, smiling slightly and hoping that he could assuage any possible disappointment.

“Also I think I should buy some Wand Polish or something to keep it in good condition. Also should I buy something to put my wand in?”

Patient as ever, Zeke nodded, and waited for the girl to be ready with her journal, before going over the information again. Slightly slower this time, so she could get it all down. "So that's pine, eleven inches, pliant, with a unicorn hair core. Very faithful wand, reliable and adaptable, good for creative pursuits like inventing spells or potions. Well suited to non-verbal magic, Potions, Transfiguration, as well as hexes, jinxes and curses. The magic it produces is likely to be very consistent, smooth, and more on the subtle side, due to the characteristics of the unicorn hair." Was that everything? That seemed like more or less everything. Not word for word, but the main information was there, at least.

On to the other products though. "Wand polish is your best bet for that, as it's still in shop condition." He retrieved some from the shelves, and set the little tub on the counter. "I'd recommend a wrist holster too; keeps it safe and easy to draw when you need it. You'll just need to let me know which material you'd like." He rang up the polish and the wand, looked at the girl, and smiled.

Oh, now would you look at that. Zeke was, to put it frankly, delighted by that display, and maybe it showed in the way he beamed. First at the magic, and then at the kid's expression. Yes, that was the wand. It was definitely the-...

Ah.

Zeke didn't immediately move to take it back, but, to his credit, he also refrained from openly disagreeing with the vaguely familiar woman. It was soon clear exactly what the issue was, though he had no idea who 'they' were. "If it helps at all, these displays are not necessarily a sign of that sort of thing. I can't promise a different wand would give us different magic either." There was more he would have liked to add, but the kid seemed on the sensitive side, which put them on shaky ground, and enough had been said already. Giving any kind of reassurance about houses was already sort of a risk, as Zeke simply could not predict that sort of thing based solely on the wand (he could guess, but that was all). It was, however, important to him that his customers left here with the wand that chose them, so he hadn't minded nudging the facts around a little on that score.

"I really think this one works beautifully for him. The wand really does choose the wizard." Zeke looked between the woman and the young man she was, uh, advocating for, and smiled, not wanting to push him out of the conversation but also not wanting to undermine anyone. "A particularly desirable wood too." Would 'they' like that? Maybe?

Speaking of not undermining, Zeke was going to refrain from offloading on all the details until they were in agreement. It was the polite thing, and the diplomatic thing, and the difficult thing, because he did so love the part where he got to nerd out a little bit.

Even though he had decided to keep in the questions before, Alfred just couldn't handle the curiosity and decided to fire away.

Zeke allowed a smile. "The exact process would take a while to explain. It's... complex." Not that he was opposed to it; Merlin knew he could wax lyrical about wandmaking until the mooncalves came home, but it was also the quickest way to utterly derail him from the task at hand. Not to mention, it would take days - weeks - to really get into the details. Years to fully understand. That... that did not seem like the kind of casual answer he should provide here. "Those books over there might summarise it better than I can." Zeke nodded over to the collection amongst the display shelves, the titles of which were also listed up on the products and services, for reference. Heavy texts, but he'd stopped trying to tell kids they might struggle with them. If that were the case, they'd find out soon enough. "They're not for sale, but you can sit in here and have a look through them for as long as you like, once we're done finding your wand."

Speaking of. First one seemed like a no go, and Zeke absentmindedly plucked it from the counter and placed it back into its box while he watched the boy try the second, letting out a little, "Aha," at that little display.

Smiling again, a little wider now, Zeke straightened and rubbed his hands together. "I'm sure it is too. Congratulations." No mistaking it, from the magic, the customer's general demeanour, and from his declaration. So... prepare for the onslaught. "Your wand is twelve and a quarter inches of rather firm hornbeam, with a demiguise hair core. Hornbeam wands tend to choose dedicated and ambitious owners, intensely driven, and the wands themselves are similar, you'll see it in how loyal this wand will be to you, and how quickly it will adapt to your style of magic. It will be very difficult for anyone else to use it, even for simple spells, and after you've had time to get used to each other, it will refuse to perform any acts that don't match your own principles." Not a bad characteristic for a wand, though occasionally it could be inconvenient. All these woods had their strengths and drawbacks, of course; Zeke's own wand was made of a wood known for backfiring with poorly handled spells. We all have our vices. "Excellent for defensive spells, while the demiguise core makes it a particularly good wand for Transfiguration, vanishment, banishing, and the more delicate spellwork you may have to do. Demiguise hair wands have a neat little feature too; once you've mastered it, the wand can disguise itself so only you will be able to easily see it. Makes them very difficult to steal."

Zeke had done a lot of talking today; it was getting to that time where he was getting sick of the sound of his own voice. And yet he continued, gesturing towards the price board as he did so. "The wand by itself is 10 galleons. Is there anything else I can get for you today?"

"You may indeed." Wand polish, coming right up. Zeke retrieved the little tub from a shelf, checking it was the right product before setting it on the counter. He smiled brightly at the girl - it was hard not to, her enthusiasm was contagious. "You're very welcome. And thank you as well." For the money, of course, which Zeke scooped off counter, counting each coin into his hand as he did so, though he could already see it was all there.

"In that case, good luck with your new wand. If you need anything in future, you know where we are." 'We' being Ollivanders, as it was only Zeke who ran the place at the moment. "Have a great day."

"Okay. I'll get a... leather wrist holster. In black. And some wand polish." His parents had come up behind him now, and he glanced at them for confirmation. They agreed, and his mum produced the bag of coins they had acquired from the fancy bank earlier.

Zeke gave a nod, and set about getting all the items together, ringing them up, and putting it all into one bundle. Easier to carry, you know, though he didn't doubt that at least half the kids who bought wands and holsters from him left the shop and immediately strapped on the holster with the wand inside. It didn't matter that they couldn't, and shouldn't use the wands yet, it was more about the experience.

At least, that was what it had been about when Zeke had done exactly that all those years ago, after being fitted with his first wand.

"Wonderful. So that's 16 galleons and 8 sickles altogether." He looked up from his register at the boy, then the probably-parents who had come to join him at the counter. They got a smile, because manners.

Zeke smiled. "Excellent stuff." It could be a lot, the information he offloaded onto his customers, and he never shied away from repeating himself to those who wanted. It was interesting to see, too, which kids paid rapt attention, and which shrugged it off or glazed over while he spoke.

Right. "Wrist holster? Those tend to be most useful when starting out." Zeke turned to look at the display of holsters, to show what was on offer, but then looked back again. This could often be an awkward line of questioning, but he was prepared for it. More or less. "They are, but more often than not these days, it's obtained in, ah, humane ways. Natural causes." Did she... get what he was saying? Hopefully. It was the same for a lot of the dragon heartstring core wands too, though Zeke couldn't speak for the older wands here, the ones from before he'd taken on the sop. "It's a common concern, so I always order in the ethically sourced products. So... dragon, or something else instead?" Also, if dragon, he'd need the specific breed.

"Alright, let's see what we have here," Zeke said, finishing up what he was doing and stepping in to take over from the magical measuring tape, just as it flew away to annoy see to the next customer. He picked up the parchment of measurements that had been collected, running a finger down the list, then back up to a previous number, and then back down again. Mhm, mhm, mhm. "Excellent. Just a sec." He smiled at the girl, tapped the counter with the palm of his hand, then stepped away again.

It took him a few moments to gather the wands he had in mind; one from this shelf, one from that shelf, one from the back - just leaning in and stretching a hand up to grab the box in question from a high up shelf. Then he was back, and the boxes were laid out on the counter.

"Now then. Let's see how you get along with this one," Zeke said, opening up one of the boxes and offering the wand inside to the girl in front of him. "Just give it a wave, see what happens, and tell me how it feels."

For the money, of course, which Zeke scooped off counter, counting each coin into his hand as he did so, though he could already see it was all there.

"In that case, good luck with your new wand. If you need anything in future, you know where we are." 'We' being Ollivanders, as it was only Zeke who ran the place at the moment. "Have a great day."
The blonde was quite proud of herself. As an 11 year old, making these kind of shop transactions wasn't a common occurrence. And for something so special, too! Remy mouthed the numbers as the shopkeeper checked they were all there. She picked up the polish and stuffed it into her drawstring bag, but decided she would hold the wand box. "Thanks very much, again, sir. Bye!" She beamed at him, then spun on her heel to beam at her mum, and headed out of the shop with her.

Not that he found her sadness amusing, or took pleasure in it, but it was just the attachment she was clearly forming to the wand already, the unwillingness to let it go. It was endearing, and that made him smile.

But not too much. See above.

Once he had the wand back, he reboxed it and rang it up, setting it back on the counter again as he glanced at the man who had accompanied the girl. "Of course, sir," Zeke said with a nod, retrieving each of the products and gathering them into one bundle with the wand, nudging the lot back across the counter with a smile. "That's 24 galleons 8 sickles, all told."

To his young customer again. "You are very welcome. And yes, some people name them. I've even known several wandmakers who have done exactly that." Now that he thought about it, it was mostly wandmakers he could remember who named their wands, though definitely not exclusively. Zeke couldn't help but wonder if there was a correlation between those who did, and the kind of wands they owned.

He'd have to write that idea down in a moment.
Anton paid the man quickly, wanting to be done with the whole wand process as quickly as possible because the shop was slowly getting a line waiting after them.

"Does yours have a name, sir?" she asked, trying to figure out if she wanted to name her wand after a boy or a girl or something not so confined. It was a big thing, to name something, and Victoria wanted to make sure her wand got the perfect name. She took aaaaallllll of the things they had just bought BEFORE her daddy could, and she smiled mischievously up at him. "I know we have to gooooo. Thank you so much!"

And how silly of him to box the wand up when V, as SOON as she got out of the wand shop, would tear into the box again. Hmph!

Anton nodded at the man, too, smiling gently, in an amused sort of way even if he was feeling impatient with her. But then again, he often felt impatient with his eldest child. "Thank you very much."

Zeke still greatly appreciated the enthusiasm, though a few minutes into this and he knew he'd benefit from a little sit down once this customer had been matched with a wand.

Until then, the best he could do was hope that whatever magic she might produce, it wouldn't be too-...

Zeke started, jerked his head around to look towards where he thought that noise might have come from, squinted for its source. Or. Well. The source was standing in front of him, but what had she... done...? He couldn't see anything different, didn't have the foggiest. No doubt it would become clear eventually, but if there were no immediate disasters, that was... fine.

... Or probably not fine, and actually he was itching to investigate and find out now, so it could be dealt with if necessary, but Zeke had a customer to deal with, and also a policy on not appearing alarmed by whatever magic the kids who passed through his shop took it upon themselves to perform. A lot of them took it to heart, or felt back, or took a little knock to the confidence, nad he refused to do that to them.

"Huh." Zeke said, oh-so-intelligently, as he looked from the girl to the wand. "Well, I daresay it performed magic for you, but what do we think? Does that feel like the right one, or should we try this one instead?" He offered the other box, unable to keep himself from glancing back towards where that popping noise had come from. Hold your ground, Ezekiel. Be patient.
Scarlett looked the same way as the wandman as if trying to see what he was looking at, yet she saw nothing. Looking back at him, she waited to see if he had an explanation or anything at all to tell her about that WAND she was holding.

'Huh', he said. "Huh." She said, seeing if that would prompt him to elaborate. We did THEY think? Scarlett thought nothing, she didn't have a CLUE. If it felt like the right one? "What's that supposed to feel like?" She didn't know the FEELING she was LOOKING FOR.

BUT she was happy to try more! MORE! "Okay!!!!!!!!" She exclaimed, taking the next one and having them both in her grasp at once for a moment. Just for a moment, as the one she was now holding in her left hand started shooting loud - LOUD??????? - coloured streamers and POPPING out confetti everywhere. Dropping the wand in her right hand, she lifted the second one above her head. "I WANT THIS ONE, I LOVE THIS ONE THE MOST!!!!!!!!!!!" LOOK AT ALL THAT COLOURFUL - AND LOUD?????? - MESS THAT IT KEPT PRODUCING!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS HER FAVOURITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She even gave it another set of WAAAAAAAAAVING around and MORE AND MORE STUFF KEPT COMING OUT IT IT, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not that he was opposed to it; Merlin knew he could wax lyrical about wandmaking until the mooncalves came home, but it was also the quickest way to utterly derail him from the task at hand.

_________

[12¼ inch rather firm hornbeam with demiguise hair]
"I'll be sure to take a look." And he actually meant it, unlike most of the time. He actually enjoyed reading, particularly when it was a topic he wanted to know more about. He listened carefully as the wandmaker described his new wand. "So it's hard to steal and also very loyal?" Sounded like himself. Not that he liked admitting that he was. "Yes, can I have a black leather holster and some wand polish?" He pulled a small bag full of coins and began counting them.

Mystie finished taking notes about her new wand. “I would like wrist holster in leather please.” Mystie said to the shopkeeper and has she waiting for the holster to be added to her items she put her journal away and took out a coin purse.

Ollie is in wonder over the wand. She had dream after dream of her doing magic all with what looked like a stick from the ground. But this was certainly not a ground stick. This had clearly been handcrafted with care. And for a witch like her! It was hard for Ollie to imagine herself conjuring up some spell with a wand as nice as this one. She carefully reached her hand into the box, unsure of how delicate wands actually were.

"Just flick it around huh" so she does... a lot. maybe too much. She drops the wand to the ground as sparks that quite resemble lightning strikes the ground next to her where she waved the wand. Her eyes widen, cheeks hot, and she quickly bends down to retrieve the wand. She inspects it hoping it's not damaged. Her father didn't give her enough to buy a wand and a broken wand.

Thankfully it's still intact. "I'm so sorry!" Ollie apologizes quickly and pushes the wand back into the box, wishing to do no more damage. "I didn't mean to drop it!" She assures not wanting to be on the bad side with the man. "I don't know any spells yet, I'm not sure what I did"

Zeke shook his head. "I decided not to name mine." He thought it best not to get into exactly why, not only because it was a little deep for a casual shopkeeper-customer interaction, but also because it was clear the girl and her guardian were ready to leave. Drawing out a conversation seemed unwise.

He counted the coins into the register, and smiled at both when he was done. "And thank you. Have a nice day." Then, to the girl, Zeke added, "Good luck with your wand." And learning magic and presumably going off to school.

Hm. Perhaps a good luck was in order for the man who'd accompanied her as well.

"You'll know. You'll be able to tell when it's the right one," Zeke said, though as soon as the words were out of his mouth, he recalled that that was not always the case. Some people just couldn't feel it, though it was less about the wand than about the person in those cases, and was down to all sorts of reasons. Luckily, the magic and the measurements were generally enough to go by. If it worked, and they didn't find it abhorrent, it was the one.

Though it seemed they would not be needing to resort to that logic today. Zeke was not remotely surprised when this particular wand - which did seem to be the wand - reacted in the way it did. He winced ever so slightly at the mess before quickly recovering his composure and retrieving the dropped wand with a flick of his own.

Mess aside, he really was thrilled with how thrilled she was in being matched. The confetti was a non-issue, he could clear it up later. Actually, Zeke had to allow himself a little chuckle at how apt the display was, as he put the first wand away and then refocused on his customer, trying as best he could to get her attention.

"Congratulations!" He said it loudly. Ish. Had to, to make sure he was heard. "The wand you've matched with is twelve inches of whippy dogwood, with a clabbert horn core." This... this was where Zeke wanted to go into all the details, but the exuberance of this child had him wondering if any of the information would be absorbed whatsoever. Then again, he just couldn't bring himself to not do it, and there was the fact that is was probably fair to give her the explanation like he did with all the others. Yes. He could be fair. "Dogwood owners tend to be lucky, and the wand itself is rather interesting-looking, I think. You see the pink blush, and the darker streaks? A playful wand which likes to be matched with an owner who will provide some entertainment for it. Dogwood often refuses to form non-verbal spells, and makes for, ah, rather noisy and flashy magic-..." ... No comment. "... -but is still perfectly capable of serious magic when needed. Paired with clabbert horn, this is a good wand for working with plants, and performing growing spells should come naturally to it. Excellent and protective and defensive spells too."

Zeke was, by the way, still half-thinking about what might have made that noise earlier. He was more concerned with that than the streamers and confetti, because at least he knew full well what the situation was on the shop floor. "The wand is 9 galleons, plus anything else you want to buy while you're here."

"That's correct." A rather desirable combination, for a wand. Of course, most combinations had something desirable in them, but you couldn't really go too far wrong with a wand that was absolutely determined to stick with you, as its owner. Unless you wanted to get rid of it, for some reason. Easily done, but not something a wandmaker enjoyed thinking about.

Anyway, yes. Purchases. "You may indeed," Zeke said with a nod and a smile, fetching the small tub of wand polish, and checking it was the right product before setting it on the counter, and then added the leather holster to the bundle. "All told, that comes to 15 galleons and 8 sickles."

Still as patient as ever, Zeke stood by with a faint smile on his face while the girl took her notes. He liked to see it, in fact, liked to know some of his customers took what he said to heart. Most did, he imagined, but it was difficult to know exactly how much of it they would remember.

He should really start doing little information cards for the wands. Hm. An idea for his own notes.

"Coming right up," he said, grabbing up a leather wrist holster and adding it to the rest, before ringing it all up on the cash register. "So, altogether that's 14 galleons and 8 sickles."

Zeke nodded encouragingly, finding the careful way with which the customer picked up the wand somewhat endearing. He had half a mind to point out that she needn't fear having a firm hand with the wand - quite literally - but refrained. The girl would figure it out on her own soon enough, and Zeke had made the mistake of telling customers exactly that sort of thing only for them to go entirely too far the other way, and try to give him a heart attack.

Learning curve, you know.

Speaking of.

Zeke wasn't too concerned about the dropped wand; he'd seen his fair share of those in the shop and just in general. Sure, in an ideal world it would never happen, but it did, and it seldom actually broke them. When it did, they were usually fixable. "Nothing to worry about at all," he reassured the customer, who did seem in need of it. "Almost all of my customers are here for their first wands, and have never cast a spell with one before. It can be a bit of a shock, when it first happens." Not to mention if they tried it with a wand that was not quite right for the customer. The question here was whether that wand had too much of a kick for this girl, or if the exuberant wand-waving was the culprit.

Ultimately, she'd know if it was the one that felt right for her, so Zeke left the open box on the counter, but also opened a second. "Shall we try this one instead? One firm swish should do it."

Ollie nodded at the man's instructions. One flick would do it! Determined to get this right she picked the new wand he was offering up, this time with a better grasp. Hopefully this time nothing bad would happen, she had already drawn enough attention to her mistake and didn't need any other students watching her if this went wrong. "Okay just one"

Ollie held the wand firmly in hand and gave one gental swish. This time instead of lightning, the wand released beautiful gold sparkle things. Ollie's eyes gleamed at the sight. Was this her wand? She felt overjoyed! This had to be it right! It felt like it was hers, fit perfectly in her hand. It was a beautiful wand too! How excited was she to feel like a real witch! She was so excited to run home and show her father. Now just to buy the darn thing!

She turned back to the counter. "Did I do it?" She asked eagerly, hoping she did. How exciting to have her own wand! Ahhh!

"The wand is 9 galleons, plus anything else you want to buy while you're here."

Did Scarlett pay attention to what the man was saying? Why, yes, yes, she did. Did it LOOK like she was paying attention? Nope, not at ALL. The girl was still waving her wand, casting streamers and confetti literally e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e and jumping up and down while doing so. The shop was going to look MAGNIFICENT when she was DONE!

WHICH WASN'T QUITE YET.

NOT YET.

NOT YET.

Okay, now she was done. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"IT'S SO PRETTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" She shouted exclaimed enthusiastically, holding her BRAND NEW WAND up above her head for EMPHASIS. "LOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT MY WAND COLOUR, MUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" IT WAS SO PRETTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since the wandman was done talking about her wand, Scarlett stopped listening and was on her way out of the shop. Mum was in charge of paying and nah, she didn't need anything else. "BYE!!!!!!!!!!!" Because she was loud quick but NOT IMPOLITE.

Ahhh!

Zeke was paying close attention to the girl, ready to try and spot the moment she made that connection; when the wand chose her and she became aware of it. He didn't have to wait long.

"Wonderful," he said warmly, smiling as the sparkles faded away, nodding encouragingly at the customer. "You did it. Congratulations, this wand has chosen you." And now... speech. Except not really. But kind of.

Zeke cleared his throat slightly, a sign that information was coming. "The wand you've matched with is twelve and three quarter inches of robust ebony, with clabbert horn at its core. A rather attractive wand, I find, and comfortably heavy in the hand, though that does come down to personal taste." It really was a nice-looking wand, in Zeke's opinion. That jet black wood looked especially fine when it was well cared for, and polished to a good shine. Not to mention, it was ideal for the wand to be kept in good condition anyway. "Ebony wands have an excellent reputation in magical combat - so duelling, that sort of thing - and also in transfiguration magic. This is a very versatile wand, but it does often take some time to master spells with ebony, so you'll need to be willing to put in the time and hard work. The clabbert horn core makes this a good wand for working with plants, and growing spells will come naturally to it. Both the wood and the core are excellent for protective and defensive spells, so this combination will make for a wonderful for any sort of defensive endeavours."

Aaaaand breathe. Ahem. Really should get on those information cards.

"By itself, the wand will be 10 galleons. Is there anything else I can get for you today?" Just not a book. If he had to tell another customer the books weren't for sale and face their disappointment, that would just... not be fun.

The shop was...

...

... okay. Well. Zeke had been right about needing that sit down. He was just itching to clear all this up, except he did have half a mind to get the girls girl here and have a look at the 'decorations' before doing so... only then he might have tearful twins on his hands when the time came to clear it all away. So maybe not.

"Good...bye." Taking a breath once his young customer had, um... left.. Zeke rang up the wand. The twitchiness would only remain until the amount had been paid in full.

The noise. That was next on his list. The streamers could wait; Zeke needed to investigate that noise.

Oh my goodness. This wand was BEAUTIFUL! And it was HERS!! The smile grew greatly on her face as the wand was described to her. Did he say growing spells?? Oh wow! With all of this new information Ollie was ready to take it out for a spin! If only she knew some spells. It was such a beautiful black color. And fit perfectly in her hand.

She pulled the bag of coins her father sent her with and reached in pulling out the proper payment. "Oh! I guess I should get some polish as well." She wanted him to know that she was going to take exceptionally well. "Thank you so so so much!" She couldn't wait to take it home and show it off!

"May I suggest this one?" He didn't specify why, but it had plenty to do with that first, ah... display.

Hassan wasn't exactly sure if his description would be of any benefit to Jasper. He wasn't a wandmaker, and he didn't pretend to be, but sometimes he listened to Dora talk and it wasn't difficult to realize the fundamentals of how wands worked. It was actually kind of cool. Not broom cool, but still cool. When Jas DID approve of his explanation, Hassan beamed proudly (need an assistant, wand dude? Hassan got you).

.... Oh. But maybe.... well, he'd had harder falls off a broom.

His mother didn't need to know about this.

"That looks like a winner, abnay." He gave Jas an encouraging look. They could absolutely pretend that the little fall didn't happen. And this would be a distant memory that his son could laugh about when he was a pimply faced teenager.

Mystie handed the shopkeeper 14 galleons and 8 sickles. When her items was packed up she headed out of the shop with a “have a good day” to the shopkeeper.

ooc: sorry if my grammar is not right. I am not sure out to write this out.

Jasper was grateful that they could all just move on; he sure had! His eyes were on the other two boxes now and once the wandmaker gave him the go ahead and his dad CONFIRMED it, he reached for the one on his left, just as they both suggested. As he picked it up, he gave both his dad and the wandmaker a wide, boyish grin. "Whoa." Already, the wand felt right in his hand. It could have had something to do with his baba having called it a winner, but either way, Jasper felt confident.

"I've got a good feeling about this one too," Jasper, of course, paused to look at his baba, before taking a step back and trying out another cool stance. He had practiced this in his room a few times, except his wand had been a hairbrush and that wasn't nearly as cool as the real thing. It also wasn't cool to be caught practicing this sort of thing in general, so he only did it when he was sure no one would walk in on him.

Taking a big, deep breath, he gave the wand a mighty wave. This time, instead of throwing him back towards the shop's exit, the wand produced a glowing, golden orb. It danced circles around Jasper, who was wide-eyed with excitement. "Baba, baba, LOOK!" It almost looked like a snitch (though it lacked wings) and because Jas was curious, he reached out and gave it a poke. The moment his finger made contact with the little orb, it burst, showering Jasper (and anyone standing close enough) in golden sparkles. "Did you SEE that, baba?" Jasper was absolutely elated. "That was awesome!!!" And Jasper had done it all on his own! Margaret would've LOVED that!

Turning to face the wandmaker again, Jasper held out the wand (so that he could box it). "We'll take this one.” Right, baba? ”Please!” he added as an afterthought.

That was what Zeke liked to see. A satisfied customer, yes, but evidently a thrilled one as well. These things could really go either way, though fortunately most customers seemed to veer towards being happy with their wands.

"Wand polish as well," he repeated, to confirm, and grabbed a tub of the stuff, setting it on the counter and smiling widely right back. "You're very welcome. I hope you get along with it." Zeke was sure she would; the wand wouldn't have chosen her otherwise. He rang up the wand polish, along with the wand. "That comes to 11 galleons and 8 sickles altogether."

Unless Zeke was very much mistaken, that was it. That 'woah' right there. The grin. The declaration. A display of magic would confirm it, but he was almost positive they'd found it.

The magic the boy had produced with the wand was really quite delightful, with the added bonus that it caused absolutely no mess in his shop whatsoever. Not that that was ever really an issue - other than a few unique cases, everything could be righted again with just a flick of his own wand - and not that he ever tried to call attention to it, but still. A bonus. Zeke grinned as the orb burst into sparkles, and got ready to ring the wand up.

"Congratulations," he said, taking the wand and returning it reverently to its box. "This wand by itself is 10 galleons. Is there anything else you'd like while you're here?" This part was still addressed to the boy, but with a glance towards the man who did indeed seem to be his father. Often it was the parents who handled the transactions, and one could never be too sure.

He'd not forgotten about the specifications either. Zeke could never. "This wand is thirteen and three quarter inches of supple juniper with a core of graphorn horn. Juniper is often most often attracted to honest and compassionate individuals, and those who own a wand made of this wood tend to be accomplished at apparition and flying, sooner or later." Zeke glanced up and flicked his eyes briefly between the two of them - there had been mention of brooms and flying - and then looked back to the wand itself. "Well-suited to healing spells, defensive magic, and protection spells; wands of this wood are able to purify water sources as well. Very difficult to steal; a juniper wand will, in fact, often find its way back to its owner if someone tries to procure it in such a way. The graphorn horn also makes this wand excellent for defensive magic and duelling spells, and very useful in potion-making too."
