Default Wand Fitting

Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you.

In front of the counter there is the empty space that is designated as the fitting area. Here is where wands are fitted. After being measured by the magical measuring tape, you will be assisted by a worker who will then endeavor to fit you with your perfect wand and start pulling boxes from the shelves, which stretch back impossibly far and up so high that even the tallest people have to tip their head back to see the tops.

Long sliding ladders are attached to every stretch of shelves, and the wandmakers make great use of these to reach those wands which are tucked away high up. There seems to be a filing system of sorts, some kind of method to the madness, though most of the boxes are unmarked. Is it a colour code? Or is it shape? size? smell? Something else? Well you'll never know unless you get a job here. Luckily, and out of sheer necessity, these shelves have been bespelled so that wandboxes are not in danger of flying everywhere due to errant spells cast by children wielding their new wands.

Text Cut: Wand Fitting Instructions - PLEASE READ FIRST!
Instructions

⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for the character who is here for a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "magical measuring tape" ONCE in this thread; this serves as our queue. This thread is where the entire wand fitting process and transaction will be RPed, so please refrain from excessive back-and-forth interactions with characters other than the shopkeeper, so we can keep things running as smoothly as possible.

See the example post below, or look at other posts in this thread from previous terms.

Text Cut: Example Post
Jessica went into Ollivanders with more than her share of nerves, it was time for her first wand! The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. Soon enough the measuring tape reached her and began zipping about, straightening with a snap and measuring out her height and, when she held her arms out, she watched it take a measurement of how long they were too. Fun! Did that mean her wand would be as big as her whole arm?

The girl stepped away from the measuring area and she eagerly waited for the shopkeeper to find her wand.

⌦ Please take the SORTING QUIZ first and wait to be placed in your house before taking the wand quiz! Your house effects your final wand in our quiz! This goes for current members who are re-sorting too, though you may take the quiz in advance if you know what your new house will be.

⌦ You may role play the magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeeper(s). Ollivander does not work here!

⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for a shop worker to assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You must RP to get your character's wand if they are purchasing it during the summer period.

⌦ Please do not stretch the wand fitting experience out too long, it should not take more than three tries at an absolute maximum to find your character's match.

⌦ If we run out of time to complete the RP with you by the end of the RP summer, we will PM your wand result to you, provided you have posted in this thread and responded to our efforts to interact with you.

⌦ If you would like a wand sorted for a character who would have already purchased their wand in the past (for example, if you make a character who is older than an incoming first year) you are welcome to fill out the wand quiz for that character. Remember to leave a note in the additional information box explaining the situation, and asking for the wand results in a PM.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM Felixir and he'll try to answer your questions as quickly and efficiently as he can.

⌦ Have fun!

Was Zeke feeling a bit twitchy about the incoming rush of customers? Er, no, not really. Sure, he had potentially been in some level of danger for a while, being a muggle-born in charge of the wand shop, which had been hit once already in recent years, but he and Mathias had dealt with that. They'd had a 'long holiday' with the girls while someone stood in for him here at Ollivanders from mid-winter to late spring, and returned upon receiving the all clear. Since then, Zeke and his family had settled back in above the shop, and Zeke himself had been working all hours to prepare for the summer rush, triple-checking everything was in order, making up for lost time, and catching up on delayed business.

Now he was ready, and aside from a more subdued version of the jitters he'd had at the start of last summer (which weren't that bad even then, to be honest), he felt fine. Eager to get started, indulge in his passion, and set some more children on the path to success in their magical endeavours. By fitting them with the best wand for each of them, of course.

After a final sweep of cleaning charms around the shop to take care of the more stubborn dust particles, and a quick check to make sure he really had unlocked the door (make that mistake once, and you never forget it), Zeke took his place at the counter and spent the last quiet minutes of the morning scribbling away on his notepad while he waited for the first customers of the day to arrive.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Daniel did not care if his brother wanted to buy treats for his owl. It was HIS special day today and so the eleven year old was dragging the older Hufflepuff in to the store of Ollivanders because he wanted Minjae to witness that he got his first wand. He had been in Diagon Alley before but he had never entered the wand shop because he knew it would only make him feel disappointed that he could not have a wand.

Feeling nervous yet excited at the same time, the youngest Yoon wasted no time looking around. He had been waiting to get his wand for years now, he wanted to have it NOW.

As the magical measuring tape began to measure the length of his arm and fingers, Daniel stood perfectly still. He wanted a good result after all. The perfect wand for him. The tape suddenly moved up to his head and wrapped itself around his forehead and he raised an eyebrow at this but didn’t question it. It was only when he saw Minjae in the corner of his eyes trying his best not to laugh that he knew that it was unorthodox for the tape to measure the distance between the tip of his nose and his upper lip.

When it was finally done, Daniel stepped away from the measuring area and half expected for a wand to fly his way immediately. He was very disappointed when it did not. "Excuse me? I want my wand, please"

Max entered Ollivanders, glad that he was not feeling too nervous. Ever since he received the letter of acceptance from Hogwarts, he had been most looking forward to his wand fitting. He spent a lot of time imagining how it would play out, and once imagined himself being rejected by every single wand in the shop for having a nervous breakdown. He could not let that happen! So he did some research on how a wand chooses a wizard - it was too difficult to fully understand but the basic conclusion he reached was that there was absolutely no need to feel anxious about this.

A faint smile of triumph for successfully staying calm crossed Max's face and faded quickly. He made his way over to the open area where a measuring tape wiggled over to him immediately. Feeling self-conscious (hey, I haven't had a growth spurt yet!), he stood straight and allowed the tape to measure his height, arm length, distance between nostrils and many more strange measurements. Were these really necessary? He would have to do some more research on wandlore to find out.

When the magical measuring tape was done, he took a step closer to the counter, eager to be fitted with a wand. "I'd also like my wand, please." He echoed the words of another young boy who arrived before him.

That done, he straightened, flipped the notepad shut with one hand, and tucked it away into his breast pocket, smiling at the boy now ready to be fitted. "Let's see if we can't make that happen."

Summoning the measurements over, Zeke scanned through them a couple of times. Mhm, mhm, plenty of routes they could go down here, but one or two he had a good feeling about. "Just a moment." He set the measurements aside for the moment, and dipped into the back shelves, returning only a moment later with a couple of boxes. Setting one aside, he opened the other and held it out so the boy could take the wand inside. "You know what to do?" And, in case he didn't. "Give it a wave, and we'll see what happens." Encouraging smiles for this one, though he didn't necessarily seem the type to need the extra reassurance like some of the kids who passed through here.

Hmm, yes, one option stood out here, but Zeke wasn't about to get overconfident. Still, he had a feeling the core might be the trickiest part to narrow down, if anything. "Excellent. Hold on just a moment, please."

He didn't disappear into the back this time, but instead rounded the counter to reach one of the shelves that lined the walls, plucked out a box, paused, then taking a second. Saved a trip back later, and he didn't mind the excuse to do a little more organising later, even if the first was a perfect match.

"Let's try this one," Zeke said, returning to the counter and offering the wand from the first box to the young boy. "Test it out, and tell me how it feels."

Only giving a nod to indicate that he had understood , Daniel followed the man with his dark brown eyes and watched him move to the back to find a wand for him. He waited quietly and did not utter a word but he was trying his best to conceal his excitement.

When the man came back with a couple of boxes, Daniel raised an eyebrow at them. He must not be very good at his job if he could not even find the perfect wand at the first try. He opened his mouth to comment about this when his older brother suddenly cleared his throat. It was an innocent noise but Daniel knew that it was a warning. He sometimes hated it that he knew his actions even before he had even started but also appreciated it at times because it had kept him out of trouble more often than not. And questioning the one who was giving him his first wand was probably not a smart move. What if he got kicked out of the shop without a wand?!

Reaching for the wand in the box and picking it up, Daniel immediately frowned. "I don't like it" he said , looking it over for a quick moment and he was about to hand it back when he was told to give it a wave.

Looking over at his older brother who also gave him an encouraging smile, Daniel flicked the wand in the direction of the other box and successfully managed to push it away with such force that it flew against the shelves behind the shopkeeper before dropping to the ground. Ha! nice! But he still did not like it. "Can i try that one?" he pointed to the box now on the ground.

The best part about being magical was obviously being able to do magic, and to do magic well (at least at first) Victoria knew she needed a wand. A WAND THOUGH?! Her father, Anton, was with her as they waited. For once, V was feeling patient. She even watched other kids get fitted and whatnot in silence, ignoring her dad's prods and questions as she waited.

Her eyes were shining with anticipation. Hungry, almost.

What would it feel like to hold something so powerful? That contained magic? Would she feel it coursing through her veins?! She hadn't done enough reading about it - honestly, who read things anymore - but she clasped her hands neatly behind her back as she waited.

It was her turn! She stepped up to get measured by the VERY cool magical measuring tape, and she followed instructions carefully as she held out her arms and whatnot. OKAY IT WAS SOON!

Lisa couldn’t hold back her excitement as she l i t e r a l l y BOUNDED into Ollivanders with a bright grin. Time for her first wand and she was DETERMINED to get a cooler wand than her siblings. The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and tried her best to wait patiently for the tape measure. Lisa was practically bouncing from foot to foot as she waited for the tape measure. She watched as a few students in front of her used it, noting that she recognized a few of them. The tiny Nam offered a small smile (if they looked over) before deciding that it was probably a little awkward to just stare and smile at the other kids. Oops. Didn’t want to be mistaken for more of a weirdo than she already was. FOR THE RECORD - she wasn’t a weirdo - she was just.... excessive in the best way. She should have just said say hi or just pretended that she was in her own world. Maybe pretend to pop earphones in and listen to fake music?

Oh yes, that was a moood and THE move.

Soon enough the measuring tape reached her, twisting around her and taking in her measurements. Lisa was so in awe that she forgot to hold her arms out until the tape measure tapped her shoulder not once or twice but thrice. “Whoops..... Sorry,” she whispered as stretched out her arms to get measured. She then continued to bounce from foot to foot impatiently, waiting for the tape measure to finish up. She only got tapped to stay still a handful of times.

Before she knew it, the tape measure had finished its measurements and she was FREE..... free to join another line??!?!

Her shoulders hunched over and she glanced at her feet before sighing momentarily in defeat. Man... She had been SOOOO close. Thus she joined the next line and waited. In a few minutes, she was back to her normal bouncy excited self. Real life energizer bunny right hereeeee.

Turning to face the wand maker, Max waited patiently and watched him think. He liked doing that - watching other people think. Sometimes he liked to look intently at people, guess their thoughts and pretend to be a Legili-whatever. But he was not about to try that now, when this wizard was thinking hard to match him with a wand.

When the man returned to the counter with two boxes, Max took a deep breath and reached for the wand that was offered to him. Test it out ... but how? He did not know any wand magic. His ma often used Reparo to repair things that he accidentally broke, perhaps he could try that? All the thoughts in his mind vanished when he took the wand. A sudden warmth surged into his fingers and spread through his body. Already feeling comfortable with the wand in his hand, he raised it and gave it a little swish, sending colourful sparks from the end like a firework. "Wow. It feels good," he said vaguely, unable to express the range of emotions in him. He glanced at the second box and asked, "Should I try that one too?"

Edric walked calmly into Ollivander's, as one should, but he was also quivering on the inside, absolutely BRIMMING with excitement for HIS FIRST WAND. Well, he was assuming it would be his first wand. He may want several in his lifetime. He nonverbally nudged his Auntie Alexa to signify that he would do this entirely on his own, that he required no help besides money, and then went to get in line or measured or whatever. In fact, he was standing somewhere that the magical measuring tape happened to find him, and then he just let it do its thing. As one does.

"Cool," was all the angel-haired chubby-cheeked cherub said for now. He did his best to focus his seafoam eyes on the tape ONLY, trying his best to actually concentrate as everyone has always told him to do. But it was rather difficult to watch a thin strip of a tape measuring the width of one's septum. He may have been going a bit crosseyed watching it, in fact, and was unaware of whether or not the zippy little tape was finished or still in progress.

If Zeke had noticed any silent communication between the two, he gave no sign of such, other than the briefest flick of the eyes towards the brother - not that he knew he was the brother - when he cleared his throat. An automatic response, before zeroing in on the young customer again.

Not liking the wand the second he'd touched it was not the most encouraging sign; usually it was clear from the moment someone first picked up a potential wand, whether or not it would be matched to them. Occasionally there were some wand combinations that produced the kind of magic that indicated a clear match, but which just didn't feel perfect until the owner proved themselves to the wand, or they'd spent some time together, or passed through mortal peril unscathed. The usual. These matches could be a little disappointing for the customer, but they all still produced that initial feeling of finding the right one, so maybe this one would simply be a dud.

... Well. Not a dud, exactly.

A man of infinite patience, Zeke simply stooped down to retrieve the fallen box. "That wand seems to work reasonably well for you," he observed, opening up this other one and just double-checking that the wand inside it was still in good order, not that he was too concerned. "But if it doesn't feel right, then that's no good, so you absolutely may." He held the now open second box out to the boy, holding out his hand for the first wand to be returned to him. "Tell me if this one feels any better." And wave it around. That too.

Aaaaand another customer.

"Hello, miss," Zeke greeted the girl who was up next, offering her a smile and beckoning her forward as he summoned the list of measurements. "Let's see what we have here." He looked through the numbers, running an index finger down the list end 'hmm'ing to himself, cross-referencing this measurement with that, and factoring in this other one. Nothing to worry about; he did like a challenge. "Very good, if you'll just wait here a moment."

Unfortunately for this girl, she was in for another slight delay, as Zeke had to head into the back room again, to find exactly what he had in mind. He returned presently with a few different wand boxes in his arms, opened each of them, and placed them all on the counter. "Take your pick, and give it a whirl." It would be interesting to see which she was drawn to first, even if it didn't turn out to be the best one for her.

Goodness, this one certainly had some... enthusiasm. It put a big smile on Zeke's face as he reached her, and consulted the measurements that the shop's mercifully maturing magical tape measure had collected. They'd reached an understanding, he was sure of it. Almost.

Anyway, measurements. "Exciting day, isn't it?" Zeke remarked, glancing up at the girl from the parchment, and then back at the numbers. Another potentially tricky one, which was just as pleasing to him as the kid's enthusiasm. "Just a sec." Maybe four or five. Zeke sidestepped away and stretched up to a shelf just at the limit of his reach, and pulled out a long thin box. He opened it up, offered the wand to the girl. "Give this one a go, just a wave will do it, and we'll see what happens." If it was wrong, that and the manner with which the wand might protest would narrow things down a whole lot.

In the meantime, he... would be prepared for any overenthusiastic magical displays.

Zeke was watching closely, his gaze becoming slightly more focused as the boy picked up his wand. Looking for that reaction, a release of tension in the shoulders, the slightest shift of expression, a more confident bearing. All signs that someone had picked up the wand they would match with.

He was already smiling again even before the kid produced the colourful sparks, near beaming as he set the other box aside, either to be reintroduced back into the perfectly organised shelves, or for a potential match with another customer in the next few hours. "Unless I am very much mistaken, you've found your match there. Congratulations." Of course, there was no rule that said only one wand existed for a person, so the boy could feasibly find another match in here that worked just as well, or near enough, as the first. But no, Zeke was confident that he'd found one that would work brilliantly for him.

"This wand you've matched with is twelve and a half inches of hard ebony, with a core of unicorn hair. Ebony makes for a good duelling wand, well suited to defensive magic too, protective spells and that sort of thing. Excellent for transfigurations as well, and all elemental magic, a very diverse wand. One thing to keep in mind is that it can take a little more time to master spells with an ebony wand, so you'll need to be patient, and don't be discouraged; it'll be worth the effort." Merlin knew some of these kids really could get understandably disheartened about that kind of thing, eager as they were to jump feet first into magic; some even came back to him claiming there was a problem with the wand. He felt for them, he really did, but they all got there in the end. "Unicorn hair is also good for transfiguration spells, and charms too. Excellent for healing spells. This core makes for smooth, subtle magic, and a very faithful, very reliable wand." The unicorn hair core could potentially offset the difficulty with ebony that Zeke had already mentioned, which was why it was a combination he quite liked. Still, always depended on the tree, the unicorn, and the owner of the wand.

Did he get all that? Zeke should probably start writing all this stuff down for his customers to take away, but he got just as enthusiastic about the process as they did. Or... most of them. "I'll box that back up for you to take away. The wand itself is 11 galleons. Is there anything else I can get for you today?"

Speaking of, the tape took the opportunity to 'greet' Zeke, as it sometimes did nowadays, giving him a friendly hug around the head once he made his presence known.

At least, he liked to tell himself it was a friendly hug, and not an attempted strangulation. They had a rocky history, even over the course of a little more than a year, much of which he'd been absent for. Maybe it had been the absence that had done it. He wasn't convinced the measuring tape was incapable of holding a grudge.

Batting the tape away so that it left him alone in order to seek out the next victim target customer, Zeke decided to read and search to save time. "Won't be a moment," he said to this young boy, giving him a friendly smile before striding off amongst the shelves in the back, consulting measurements and pulling down boxes, and once or twice putting them back again. He returned with a stack of three, set the lot down, opened the one on top, and offered the wand inside to the boy. "Give this a wave, and let's see if it cooperates."

And sure enough, Lisa was up next. With a BIG grin on her face, she nodded at the shopkeeper’s question. “I am. Best day ever, Mister..” she said. She didn’t know his name but calling him Mister was probably better than Mister Shopkeeper or Mr Wandkeeper... That would have just been a little too odd- even for Lisa. “How’s your day?

She watched him pause, curious to see what he’d pick first and then waited patiently (yet still bouncing) for his return. When he returned, she noted the thin box that he had. Ooh. He had found her a wand? And just one? Was this her forever wand? Excitement bubbled over her as she reached in to pick up the wand. This was the King Arthur and Excalibur moment that she had seen in many films. The sword in the stone. She was getting chills (internally) just thinking about it. She grasped the wand gently, surprised at the lightness at first before admiring the make of it. “It’s beautiful..” Must have taken someone a long time to make them. “Do... do you make wands, Mister?” she asked curiously as she twirled the wand in her hand like she would her toy lightsaber before grasping it. It felt good. “And I just wave it around?” she whispered to him.

Ok. She’d give it a go. She took a deep breath and then gently adjusted her grip on the wand.

Lisa waved the wand. She didn’t feel anything different from how she normally felt without a wand when she waved it but she did see little sparks. It didn’t feel like the whole cinematic experience that she had once pictured with music ramping up into a crescendo and... It still felt good though. She nodded. The sparks brought a smile to her face. “It’s exciting! I like it...” She wasn’t exactly sure... She waved it a few more times, feeling a little better. “It feels good.

That too.
He did not want a ‘reasonably well’ wand, he wanted the ‘perfect’ wand for him. He had always pictured himself getting his first wand and when matched a bright light would shine down upon him like the hero in the novels he had read.

And he had been highly disappointed that that had not been the case at the first try. ”Sorry about that” he said as he took the second wand which the shopkeeper had picked up from the floor and looked it over again.

This time he felt…..absolutely nothing... maybe a hint because they were wands after all. But there was no connection to it. "I don't know..." he mumbled, more to himself than to the man. He did prefer the design of this wand more than the previous one but a pretty wand wasn’t everything, he knew that.

He waved the second wand around and chewed on his bottom lip when nothing happened. His dark brown eyes flickered over to the previous wand he had tried before he handed back the one he was holding. ”I think i do like that one better” he said sheepishly as he pointed at the first one.
”Can i also buy a wrist holster?” he added. "My brother has one too and it looks so cool the way he just" he flicked his wrist, imitating the action of getting a wand to fall out of his sleeve and grinned.

Lex felt the nudge, as any auror who had had their space encroached on would, but she ignored it. She had an idea of what it might be for, strange as little Ed tended to be about this sort of thing and in general, and she simply wasn't having any of it.

She would give him some space though. He wasn't bouncing off the walls like her former 11 year old did and she could see he didn't need nearly as much...reining in. Kid was a bit like Jessa in that sense; barely had a pulse. Needed a could lightening hex to wake them up. Could do with an extra dose of sugar. That sort of thing.

The Head Auror nodded at the wand man, before turning her attention back to Edric. Reserved as he was...she didn't actually know what to expect. Explosions? Flowers? This was still taking some getting used to.

Needless to say, her own wand was out, casually held at her side but ready to work if needed.

Victoria wondered what all a smart person who MADE AND DISTRUBITED WANDS did as they looked at the numbers. Numbers were, after all, kinda' dumb and nonsensical to her, so she could only look at the man with wide, impressed eyes as he did this thing. Also when would she ever need to use numbers by herself? Gosh, arithmetic on the base level was just useeeeless she was sure. Unless she became something that used that stuff all the time, and V highly doubted that would be the case! She kept close to her dad, but nodded as the shopkeeper went to go fetch she GUESSED wands.

And look! She was right. THREE. A whole THREE of them. "Even if this one works can I still try the others?" she asked with her wiiiiiiidest and most innocent eyes; it was just so stinkin' cooOOOOL did he KNOW?

She instantly picked the middle one, liking that it was in the middle. "Do I just give it a wave?" she asked her dad in a whisper even though the man would very clearly hear her. At her dad's nod, she did JUST that.

Her hand warmed, and a string of lights resembling fairy lights burst forth from the wand and encircled their heads, twirling and almost dancing. "Whoah....."

OH! What was this now? They were moving onto the... oh okay, yeah, Edric had a wand in front of him, well, in the box and the box was in front of him, so naturally he plucked it out.

Gave it a sniff, firstly, to see if he could guess the wood and/or polish being used. The results were inconclusive in this moment so he went back to his instinct, which was to bob the wand up and down as though he were conducting an orchestra. Really he was just giving it a wave, as the wand man had told him to, but was it supposed to be a wave like, "HI," or a wave like those found in the ocean or maybe a wave like a sound wave or a wa---

"I don't think it's cooperating," he blurted in a sad, hurt little voice. The wand wasn't doing anything to set it apart from a regular stick he could find outside any day of the week. He set the wand down on the counter, gently, or at least he THOUGHT it was gently, but it did make a bit of a clatter. "I'm sorry." This part was directed toward Auntie Alexa, whom he was now looking at with his kicked-puppy eyes. He'd failed her, like he knew he would, because even though he was a Cambridge, he wasn't really, and now the whole world was going to know he couldn't do magic, and he'd be sent back to the private tutors, who would tell him it's his own fault for not being smart, but he tried, he really did, and sometimes the tutors were wrong, okay. He COULD read, it was just HARD, and took him a while, and it wasn't fair.

This whole thing wasn't fair and Edric's eyes were welling up now as a result of how unfair life was.

Default hi Felix
you wanna fite? | 💚 nickleback 💚 | Uh, anyway.

Her turn, her turn, her turn!

Mal jumped to the front of the line, her fingers itching to get ahold of a new (not broken to bits) wand. Practicing spells with her sister's just wasn't the same, not too mention how angry Carmen seemed to get over the whole sharing thing. Well, it was no snot (heheheheh) off her nose, she could hardly hold in all her wiggling energy.

She wondered if this wand would like her better than crackerjack had, or at least if it would listen to her better- or maybe she'd need to listen to them better. Mal fell into a metaphorical puddle of giggles at this train of thought, a puddle which only grew larger? bigger? louder? when the magical tape

zooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomed

into action. measuring every bit of her that mattered from her toes to her nostrils, and then some.
"Hi, 'member me?" She bet it did.

Alfie was about ready to explode with excitement! Ever since getting the letter telling him he was a wizard and that he was going to Hogwarts, all he had been thinking about was getting his wand. And now it was finally FINALLY time. He bounded ahead of his parents into the wand shop. He had no idea what to expect, but he was excited for whatever might lay ahead as long as he got a wand at the end. Because then he could do magic! Well, not at home, he had been told that wasn't allowed. But that was okay because soon he would be going to Hogwarts and learning all the magic!

He moved into the store and was immediately accosted by some flying measuring tape. Alfie laughed as it started measuring him. It tickled a little. He looked behind him to see his parents enter the store and gave them a big thumbs up to show that he was okay and he could take care of the whole wand thing on his own.

Today was the BIG day and Jasper couldn't be more ready. He had woken up extra early, made his family breakfast all by himself (céréale a la Jasper Amir, the chef's special), and still found the time for three outfit changes before ultimately settling on his favorite Magpies' jersey. For good luck. It was a good day AND it was going to become an even BETTER day because he got to spend it with baba!

Oh, hehe, and because he'd soon have a wand - that was pretty great too. Not as great as spending the day with his dad, but luckily, Jasper didn't have to choose between the two. He got both. "I hope we can find one just like yours, baba," he looked up, flashing Hassan a big, boyish smile before pushing the door open for them both.

Whoa, they must have a zillion wands on those shelves. Awesome.

And before he had the chance to step in even further, a flying measuring tape began whizzing its way over. Double awesome.

Jasper wanted to make sure he got the best of wands (maman wouldn't let him settle for anything less), so he held his chin up extra high and tried to stand up on his tiptoes veeeeeeery subtly to add a few inches to his height. No one had to know! Especially not the tape. "Did it get it all?" Because Jas wasn't sure how much longer he could stand like this.

Even though his uncle Luca said he would do all the school shopping, Alfred apparently needed to be there in person to get his wand. He didn't want to go, but it was necessary; where would any wizard be without their wand? Well, the really advanced wizards could cast spells without their wand, but that was besides the point. He would rather be eating ice cream and drinking butterbeer than in this musty and dusty old shop.

Alfred raised an eyebrow at the measuring tape just floating in that empty space. What was that doing there? Realising it was part of the wand-fitting process, he walked over to it but flinched at first when it started measuring him. Relaxing a bit, he looked around the shop and the other first years waiting to receive their wands. Then he noticed that the measuring tape had started measuring the width of his ear. Was this really necessary?

Mystie being somewhat nervous and really excited pushed open the door of the shop and made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. In no time it was her turn to be measured. It started to measure her height and the length of her arm. When it was through measuring her she waited for the shopkeeper to help her.

Remy wanted this day to last FOREVER.

Arriving at Ollivanders had to be the most exciting part of coming to Diagon Alley, and she had to experience it first before shopping anywhere else. Remy remembered tagging along and watching her older sister getting her first wand, so she knew what to do, all by herself. Remy quickly unlinked her arm from her mothers as they entered the wand shop, as if the shopkeeper would judge her more than the BILLIONS of future classmates on the alley. "Shh, shhhh!!" She whispered as her mum started to fuss.

Remy encouraged her mum to hover by the door and she stepped forwards to look around. Her mouth fell open into a smile as other students were measured by the funny tape, but as it got closer to her turn, she closed her mouth and gulped loudly. Was it normal to be nervous of the measuring tape? Remy unconsciously lifted her chin to get a bit of extra height in there.

Finally, her turn.

The measuring tape was super quick and wrapped around her rather tight. Her eyes widened and she stiffened, but she burst into laughter when the measuring tape reached up and tickled her raised chin. "Haheheh, that tickles." She glanced back to her beaming mother.

Oh, this kid was delightful. "My day's wonderful, thank you for asking." That was true. Summer put him in a good mood, it seemed, not just the sun and the season itself, but the summer rush in the shop.

As the girl checked out the feel and look of the wand, Zeke leaned on the counter, arms folded, patient as they come. "I do, though many in this shop were made by past wandmakers, and have been here since before I took over." A fair few were his though, naturally.

He watched and waited, looking between the girl's face, the sparks, and the wand itself. Seemed to him like it was a good fit for her, but he wasn't the one trying it out, and though she seemed to be warming up to it, he couldn't make that call just yet. "How good; really good, or just kinda good? Does it feel like your wand?" Zeke asked her, before straightening up again and looking along the boxes on a nearby shelf for a second option. "You can test out another, if you'd like." And, if she was reluctant to be parted from the first, they'd have their answer that way.

"Not a problem." Now, had it broken... but it hadn't, so it was fine. Zeke probably wouldn't have been upset about that either. Uh. Outwardly upset, at least. Well... maybe a little.

Setting the first wand back into its box, Zeke kept one eye on the boy as he tried out the second - not only for looking a reaction, but because some of these magical displays could get a little wild, and it was unwise to not be ready to get them under control. He needn't have worried though, because... nothing. Ah.

"I do agree that the first was a good match for you," Zeke said with a nod of his head and a smile at the display, taking back the second wand now. He had a theory, too, about the initial dislike, one he was more than happy to share. "Congratulations. We can sort a wrist holster for you as well. Take a look a the product list and let me know which you'd like, plus anything else. The wand by itself is 11 galleons." For reference. Zeke rang that up now, before he fetched whatever else the boy wanted.

But first, his spiel. "The wand you've matched with is 12 and a third inches of supple spruce, with horn of graphorn as its core. Spruce requires a firm hand, because it has a tendency to think it knows best regarding what magic it should be producing, bit of a know-it-all, y'know. That might be why you didn't get along with it right away, but it wouldn't have chosen you if you were not up to the task. A very loyal wand, if a little dramatic sometimes." This last part was said more to himself, but so the boy could still hear him. Zeke was referring, of course, to the actual magic the wand produced, but he found the wands themselves to have similar personalities. Matching with spruce was not necessarily a case of being the same in that sense, but in complementing it, or just being able to handle it. From what he'd seen of this boy, Zeke felt sure he'd been appropriately matched and could take the wand in hand. Figuratively as well as literally. "Excellent for transfigurations and creature magic, and not suitable for dark magic." Maybe he should be saying that kind of thing to every kid who bought a wand from him, if it tempted them away from that area, but Zeke was far too loyal to the facts of wandlore to even consider it. "Graphorn horn is very good for defensive magic and duelling spells, and makes for a handy wand to have when brewing potions." All said, it wasn't a commonly occurring combination, graphorn usually pairing better with a more subtle wood, but, just like people, wands were not always so straightforward.

Ohhh, Zeke knew that look. He had two daughters of his own, two daughters who already knew full well that that look was far too effective in getting them what they wanted. Not with him, of course, but his husband. Hufflepuffs, you know. This girl would get what she wanted too, but she hadn't needed The Look™ to achieve it. Zeke smiled, tried not to let it turn into a chuckle, because some kids, uh, didn't like being laughed at. Go figure. "Of course you can, if you'd like." A kid who liked to be sure, or maybe a kid who wanted to test all the wands just because she could. Either way, he could relate.

Zeke folded his arms and propped up his chin in one hand, and refrained from jumping in to answer that last question, instead waiting to see which wand the girl took first, and how exactly it would respond to her. And then he smiled again; a match, if he ever saw one, with a rather pretty effect, if he did say so himself.

"Congrat-" Wait. "... Did you still want to try out these others?" If that wand felt like her own already, perhaps she'd no longer be interested.

She would give him some space though. He wasn't bouncing off the walls like her former 11 year old did and she could see he didn't need nearly as much...reining in. The Head Auror nodded at the wand man, before turning her attention back to Edric. Reserved as he was...she didn't actually know what to expect. Explosions? Flowers? This was still taking some getting used to.

Needless to say, her own wand was out, casually held at her side but ready to work if needed.

No, Zeke didn't think it was cooperating either. But that was... oh. Wait. He knew that kind of voice. He knew that kind of look. Merlin, he knew it all too well.

Zeke glanced at the woman, the possible parent and/or guardian - he never liked to make those assumptions - for just a split second, before taking the abandoned wand and setting it back in its box. "Not to worry," he said bracingly, like he hadn't noticed those overly shiny eyes, because he couldn't imagine the boy would be happy with any attention called to his little wibbly moment. Wand fittings could be exciting, but they could just as easily cause an overspill of emotions when it didn't go as expected. It was just that kind of age. "This just helps us rule out some options, like solving a puzzle. That's why I have a few here for us to test out."

Evidently undeterred, he took the box from the bottom of the stack this time, and offered the wand inside that one instead. "Why don't you give this one a try?"

She wondered if this wand would like her better than crackerjack had, or at least if it would listen to her better- or maybe she'd need to listen to them better. Mal fell into a metaphorical puddle of giggles at this train of thought, a puddle which only grew larger? bigger? louder? when the magical tape

"Hi, 'member me?" She bet it did.

Zeke had the vague idea that the measuring tape did, in fact, remember this next customer. He certainly did. He remembered most, if not all, of the kids from his first summer in the shop just by virtue of his being his first summer in the shop. No doubt those memories would all smudge together in time, but that was neither here nor there.

"Welcome back," he greeted the girl with a smile, beckoning her forward with a crook of the finger and collecting the list of measurements with his other hand. Zeke decided not to ask what had happened to the first wand, that he'd rather not know, that it was much more pleasant to focus on the fun of matching another. He looked quickly through the numbers, ticking them off with his fingers before coming to a decision. Knowing how this process had gone last time was a big help too, of course. "Give me just a tick."

And off he went, retrieving a box from one of the shelves in the shop proper, and then disappearing off into the back to get another. Stopping at the counter again, he opened one of the boxes and offered the wand inside it to his young customer. "Let's see if this one takes to you. Give it a whirl." Not literally. Or maybe literally, if she liked.

Laughing was good. Where the measuring tape was concerned, anyway, and in most other scenarios. Laughing was better than screaming, though none of the customers he'd had had ever been so traumatised by the measuring tape that they'd ended up screeching at it. Only Zeke. And only once. In his defence, it had taken him by surprise.

"Hello there, young man," he greeted this next customer, stepping over to see what the measuring tape had gleaned from him. It hovered there, as though looking at the measurements over his shoulder, and he absentmindedly shooed it away. "Excellent, let's see what we can do for you. Won't be a sec."

Actually, Zeke was several seconds, but no longer. He was certain what core this wand should have, but took down a couple of options made of different woods before returning. Opening the first box, he offered the wand to the boy. "Give this a wave, and let me know how it feels." Also they would likely see it working, but the feeling was just as important.

Maybe this boy had been up extra early, but you had to get up even earlier than that to fool this particular measuring tape. While not particularly wily itself, it was well acquainted with all the kid tricks in the book. For the best, if the boy wanted the best wand.

As the tape gave the young customer an affectionate pat-pat-pat on the head and flew away to the next customer, Zeke stepped in to commence the wand fitting. "Let's see what we have here, shall we?" He perused the numbers, running his eyes up and down the list, making a few mental calculations and rulings-in and rulings-out. "Very good, I'll be right back."

And he was, after a quick tour of the shelves, now with three wand boxes in his arms. Zeke laid them all out on the counter, removed their lids, and gestured to the wands that lay inside them. "Pick a wand, any wand, and let's see if it suits you. Quick wave should do it."

He flashed the boy a smile and looked through the numbers to start narrowing down options, clicking his tongue lightly as he did so. Tricky, potentially, but Zeke was confident. "Excellent. "Give this a wave, and tell me how it feels," Zeke said to the girl, opening the box and offering her the wand to try. If it was a perfect match, great! Chalk another one down for getting it right on the first try. If not, it would narrow things down for option two.

Once the girl had been accosted by the measuring tape, however, he risked one glance and a conspiratorial smile towards who was likely the mother (though he knew better than to make the assumption), lingering by the door.

Once he was done and freed up, Zeke sidled across to the girl, straightening his waistcoat with a short tug as he did. "Hello, hello. I hope that measuring tape has been behaving itself." It probably hadn't, the overenthusiastic thing, but the kids tended to enjoy it, so Zeke didn't mind. He had a quick look over the numbers the tape had collected, and almost immediately an idea for a potential match sprang to mind. One that was within reach, too, and Zeke only hand to stretch ever so slightly to bring the box down. "Let's give this one a try. Give it a wave, and tell me what you think." He opened the box, and offered her the wand.

Victoria was mesmerized. The pretty magic flowing from the wand was enough to quiet even someone as loquacious as she. She squeaaaaaaaaked happily and looked at her dad, then the wand bloke, then back at her dad all EXCITEDLY. "Daddy! LOOK AT MY WAND!" she waved it around happily, forgetting, for a moment, she was in a shop and shouldn't be willy-nilly waving a wand around until Anton gently grabbed her wrist to stop her from continuing to do that with a slight smirk on his face.

"Oh. No. I don't. I like this one. This is the one! Right? Please day this is the ONE, SIR!" she gave him her WIDE CRUPPY EYES as she pouted slightly.

Scarlett was basically BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS when she got into the SHOP. It was HER TURN to get a WAND.

A WAAAAANNNNDDDD.

AN ACTUAL. MAGICAL. WAND. MAGIC. WANDKJNFDGJSFSLKEJF.

Cool.

COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!" She called out when she arrived, knowing full well she had to go to a corner to get measured before being served her POTENTIAL WAND.

And so she did. She EVEN spread her arms out to help the measuring tape OUT. Because she wanted it to be done QUICKLY so she could get her WAAANNNDDD, COME ON, TAPE, WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
