| | |  Magical Measuring Area
 Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you.
To one side you'll see the entrance way, where your parents may or may not be waiting for you, and just in front of you there is the fitting area and the counter. If you aren't in need of a wand, you best just head up to the counter. If you are, then step up here to be measured and one of the Ollivanders employees will be with you shortly to fit you with a wand.
Instructions
⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for the character who is here for a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "magical measuring tape" ONCE in this thread. This thread is not one where you should interact with others, one post here please! It serves as our queue!
See the example post below, or look at other posts in this thread from previous terms.
⌦ Please take the SORTING QUIZ first and wait to be placed in your house before taking the wand quiz! Your house effects your final wand in our quiz! This goes for current members who are re-sorting too, though you may take the quiz in advance if you know what your new house will be.
⌦ You may role play the Magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeepers. Ollivander does not work here!
⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for your post to be edited with a link to the 'Counter and Wand Fittings' thread where a shop worker will assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You must RP to get your wand.
⌦ If we run out of time to complete the RP with you by the end of the RP summer, we will PM or VM your wand result to you, provided you have posted in this thread and responded to our efforts to interact with you.

The shop wasn't anything how Izaac had been picturing all summer. He had expected colourful, glittery wallpaper, filled with sparks of magic going off in his face, FLYING WANDS, and kids skipping around with utter joy excitement... well, that part was kinda going on in front of him. He gave an enthusiastic thumbs up to his mum who was peeking through the window at him as he got into the queue. She did one back, grinning even wider than he was!!
Zac tippy-toed to see the flying tape measurer that he had heard soooo much about. It was doing its thing on some other kids, and his eyes were transfixed on it. Absolutely dazed. It was fantastic.
Stepping forward for his turn, Zac jumped when the tape zipped and whizzed up and down his body. Took a moment of adjusting, but he soon exploded with a fit of laughter. He sure hoped his mum was watching him proudly. Julia: Libby has responded to you here

So the long-expected moment is here: Julie is going to get her wand! Her mother had leaded her to Ollivander's and she could not wait to finally have her wand. As soon as she entered the store, the measuring tape was all around her, measuring non-stop. The seconds seemed like an eternity and she was so excited!

With wide blue eyes, Lancelot stepped through the door his father held open for him, staring at anything and everything. There were sooooo many BOXES, it was overwhelming. One of those was HIS. Or that's what his father and grandmother and grandfather told him. At least, so he thought. It was hard to think right now.
Rubbing his sweaty semi-dirt covered hands on his semi-dirt covered clothes, which was a stark contrast to his comically clean and neat brushed blond hair parted perfectly down the middle (with only a few stray hairs sticking up), Lance stopped mid-way into the shop, just staring. That is, until his father quietly nudged him towards the measuring tape that was measuring people without a person holding it that was cooooooool.
IT WAS MEASURING HIM. HOLY JELLYFISH PASTE. IT- It kinda tickled.

He hadn't been able to hide the fact that he had broken his wand during the early beginning of the school vacation by accident. Something he wished to have hidden from his parents till he had a new wand but naturally they noticed. He still hadn't forgiven his sister for "accidentally" stepping on it. Perhaps it was his own fault though, shouldn't have slept on the couch and placed his wand on the floor beside it, something his mother reminded him over and over.
But she wasn't here now, thank Merlin. She was currently buying his school books while he got his new wand. He knew exactly where he had to go and what he had to do of course so he stepped to the measuring area and waited till it was his turn, a feeling of embarrassment swept through him as he thought of how the shopkeepers would look when a fifteen year old instead of an eleven year old stood in front of the counter. Would they not care or give him a lecture like his mother? Best get it over with.
He waited till the tape was done and stepped further towards the counter. Julia: Libby has responded to you here

Scout's dad put one hand on her shoulder as they walked into the store. It was rather empty for the middle of the day. Once they were inside and the door shut behind them, Scout stood still for a moment, mesmerized by the shelves full of boxes.
"You're lucky that the shop's not to busy. You'll get measured right away." her father said.
"What do you mean," Scout asked, "Who's going to measure me?"
Scout followed her fathers finger as he pointed to the measuring tape wiggling through the air. Her blue eyes went wide and she gasped and then giggled as it began to swim around her body, slithering and tugging like a snake. When it was done she looked at her dad again.
"Wow" She said, and he smiled widely at her.

They'd left it until a day when Ollivanders was sure to be a little less busy, in the hopes of avoiding getting stampeded in the shop. That didn't seem to make much difference, though, as it still looked as crowded as ever in here. Indeed, all the wait had done was make this eleven year old even more impatient to experience this most defining moment in his young wizarding life.
Oskar stood still in the measuring area, watching the measuring tape do its job, and in turn feeling his mother and father's eyes on him from where they stood outside the shop window. The measuring tape was very thorough, Oskar noticed, his bright blue eyes watching as it flew around him, wondering just what kind of difference all these measurements made to the wand he would finally end up with. And just as he thought that, the tap measure finished with its work.

Helena peered through the window and saw the other kids waiting in line. This was it.. with such nervous excitement she opened the door and went to the measuring tape. It zoomed straight up to her face and startled her. She let out a little scream and wheeled around to see if anyone heard her. They had.. so she sheepishly laughed.. The tape then took her height and arm length, then wrapped around her head and zoomed behind the counter out of sight.. She stood there in wonderment

Blaise was practically bouncing into the shop, pulling both parents by either hand and insisting they HURRY UP. It wasn't every day a kid got his first ever wand in the history of his whole entire epicly written by his quill life. This was SPECIAL. Naturally that explained the notepad and quill floating in beside the boy, ready to begin its scribbles.
A moment like this needed to be documented in history, even if the quill did a poor job of proper recollection. That was kinda half the fun. If things went as well as he hoped, imagine how much BETTER, they could sound after the quick quotes quill got a say in it.
"Come on! Come on! Come on!" Before all the wands were finsihed or they gave his to someone else!!!--What if they DID while they stopped back at the entrance to chat with that friend of his father's? There wasn't even time to think about that as a measuring tape suddenly zoomed in his direction, flying this way and that. The boy wasn't sure what it was measuring for but to be on the safe side, he tried getting on his tippy toes...you know...in case this mattered. Julia: Libby has responded to you here

It was the most ex-cit-ing tiiiiiime of the yeaaaaaar. Davie was humming, very, very quietly to himself as he pushed open the door to Ollivander's. He was alone, having insisted that he was old enough to go into Diagon Alley stores all by himself now, and he was dressed smartly from head to toe. Even his hair was behaving today. He did agree to meet his mum at Madame Malkin's later, for his new robes, but first, FIRST he had to get his wand.
Bright eyed Davie looked around and cleared his throat, ready to be measured and fitted for his FIRST-EVER WAND. He tried not to bounce too much as he waited to be helped on this exciting morning. Julia: Libby has responded to you here

CHARLOTTE KETTLEBURN WAS HERE! It was WAND time! Her VERY OWN wand and she maybe might even FAINT but not until after she had her wand just in case she had to go to St Mungos and get stuck there and not get a wand after all.

She was swinging off her dad's hand as they entered the shop but it was just a moment before she dashed over to the measuring area.
"DAD! DAD look at ME I AM GETTING MEASURED!" Did he SEE? Was he WATCHING? Because the measuring tape was twisting all around her and measuring her arm and now her nose and now her ankle and now her height and she was curious about what all those measurements were for but she couldn't spend any time wondering about that NOW because right NOW she was getting a WAND.

Phillip was practically clinging onto his mother's hand and dragging her into the wand store. This was IMPORTANT and he REFUSED to go anywhere else first. He wanted his own wand to brandish around and pretend that he could do a lot of magic. It would be one step closer to going to HOGWARTS.
Leaving his mum somewhere over there, the excited eleven year old stood in the measuring area where some other people seemed to be. His grey eyes were wide and staring in wonder at the wand boxes that were, well, EVERYWHERE. There were SO MANY! And one of them was going to be HIS. Which one? Only time would--

Was that a measuring tape? And why was it measuring the distance between his NOSTRILS?! AHA! He tried not to giggle TOO much as he stood still, his arms spread out wide. Colt needed a new wand because his old one broke at home. Don't ask him how it happened, he had it with one second and the next he found it broken in his room. His best bet was his cousin and him were wrestling and they landed on his bed and it broke. His mother promised him he could get a new one and she kept that promise. He wanted to go at this alone, so he asked his mother to go do something else while he got measured.
As he entered the room and heard the tingling of the bell, he saw a lot more first years in this store. I mean it was typical because the first years needed a wand for Hogwarts. They weren't stupid and broke theirs. He found an empty bench and sat down and waited to be called. Tegz: Ira has responded here

FINALLY! They were finally done in the bookstore and were going to get the one thing he had really been looking forward to getting today, the one thing he had been looking forward to getting for as long as he could remember - his very own wand. A wand he could do real magic with!
Practically bouncing off the walls with excitement, Henry walked into the wand shop with his dad who had his hands full with their bags of earlier purchases. He didn't know why they couldn't come here FIRST, but that didn't matter now. They were here NOW.
But ugh, there were so many people here ahead of him! And Henry hated to wait, it made him all fidgety. Hopping from one foot to the other, he waited till it was his turn and...
What was that measuring tape doing? It was weird and cool and fascinating all at the same time, and Henry tried to watch as it speedily measured different parts of his anatomy. Catching the sight of his dad watching out of the corner of her eye, he gave him a furtive little wave then turned his attention back to the measuring tape... which seemed to be done now. That meant it was time for his wand now, right? RIGHT? He looked around for one of the adults to tell him so, his eyes soon traveling to the shelves full of wands. Any minute one of those would be his! Tegz: Ira has responded here

WAND WAND WAND! Now this was the moment Olly had been waiting for. His entire life had been leading up to this exact moment, and that was not an exaggeration. He would finally be able to do magic. MAGIC!!! He entered the store with his dads and Colin close behind. Ellery was off somewhere doing who knows what. Olly hadn't really been paying attention because he had been completely focused on the prospect of getting a wand.
Olly held out his arms and let the measuring tape do as it wished. He didn't pay much attention. What did it need to measure anyway? He didn't understand wandmaking at all, but he didn't need to so it didn't matter. Instead, he spent most of his time looking around at the others waiting to get their wands. There were so many other first years! They all looked just about as excited as he was. Hurry up wand people. Olly wanted his wand now. Tegz: Ira has responded here

Marietta giggled as she pulled her mom along into every single shop and run through it before running out. Her mother had said something about needing a wand. Marietta knew what a wand was. Princess fairies had them. Yup. And she was not a princess fairy and a witch. Or well... that was what her mommy had told her. Mari wasn't that fond of being called a witch.
Witches were scary.

Marietta's mother, though just as fascinated with everything here, was exhausted by her daughter running around. Not that Mari noticed. Mari just continued to bounce around while holding her mother's hand so she wouldn't stray too far. When the line before her finally disappeared and she was the only one in the front Marietta almost screamed.
Out of excitement. Not because she was scared. Though she did quickly become scared when the measuring tape started to move. "MOMMY!!!!" She felt her mom's reassuring squeeze to her hand and quickly closed her eyes when the tape started to zip around her. This was weird. Mari didn't like this. When she felt another squeeze to her hand she saw that the measuring tape had stopped.

Owen was asked to proceed to the Measuring Area and so he promptly wobbled walked towards there with a slight bounce in his stride. Wow, this was exciting. Getting his wand and all. This was getting more and more memorable and he had his stepfather to thank for that, for coming all with him as he prepared for Hogwarts. Seeing his stepfather looking at him from the waiting area, Owen flashed him a huge grin.
Many people were here. They looked to be getting their wand too, which probably means they're also first years. Most of them were small. Hehe.
It was his turn now and the measuring tape - oh how magical it was - started to move. Owen stayed still because he was too fascinated to move. The tape spiraled, straightened and wrapped around his right arm. "Err, I'm left-handed..." He whispered to it, and true to it being magical, it did the same on his left arm. How about his pudgy hand and fingers? Were they not going to measure them?
The tape paused, then finally hovered. Was he done? "Thank you, tape measure." Tegz: Ira has will as soon as I edit in, gimme a sec! responded here

Arms crossed over her chest and a scowl on her face, Suri Rider tentatively walked down the cobbled street, Benzi's hands on her shoulders to keep her from falling. Mum had stopped by a shop to grab something, having told Benzi she'll "meet them there". This was all fine and dandy, apart from one TINY YET VERY CRUCIAL DETAIL. You see, unlike normal people who were normal, Suri had been KIDNAPPED HER from ballet class, BLINDFOLDED, then SIDEALONG APPARATED TO DIAGON ALLEY WHERE SHE'D BEEN TRYING NOT FALL EVER SINCE.
HOW AWFUL WERE THEY???
No matter how much yelling, demanding, taunting and/or biting she tried, nothing worked. They'd been walking for HOURS and she WANTED.TO.SIT.DOWN.AND.KILL.SOMEONE. Preferably Benzi. Mum could live for now.

"OLLIVANDER'S???? I'M GETTING MY WAND AAAAAH I'M GETTING MY WAND," Suri SCREAMED and without so much as a nod to Benzi and Mum, RAN into the store. The almost eleven year old practically salivated as she stared up at the rows and rows of wands. It was beautiful. MAGICAL. INCREDIBLE.
"Oh hey there!" she giggled as a measuring tape thing starting flitting about around her, and she turned to see Mum had followed her into the shop while Benzi had left. "MUM IT'S MEASURING ME FOR MY WAND!" she YELLED again, but frowned when her mother seemed to look distressed.
Oh. Right. Probably shouldn't be so loud in here. Ooooops. She blushed lightly. "THANK YOU MUM," Suri stage whispered instead, and giggled again when the measuring tape tickled her armpit. "Oi don't tickle me!" she told it, and it seemed to listen to her as it stopped its fiddling and backed away.

His mum and dad were such slow pokes! But Bentley blamed Heathy and Belle! They were slowing their parents up and he had a wand to get. He had a wand to get there and he needed to get it before all the good ones were gone. The dark haired boy had given up on trying to drag them both along and ended up running ahead of them.
Slow pokes were going to cost him the good one.
Okay okay...woah! Lots of kids and parents were already here! Ugh..bet they got the cool wand already!!! Where was he suppose to stand? What was he suppose to do?
Oh ok..tickles! Apparently he just needed to stand there while the measuring tape did his thing.

Ellery had followed Olly pretty closely, but not quickly enough, because he was ALREADY GETTING MEASURED. She cupped her hands around her mouth and gave her brother a whoop. "GO OLLY! GET THE BEST WAND!" Because this WAS a competition between the Borzekowski-Thomas clan and the rest of the store, and the B-Ts WERE getting the best wands, hem hem.
Ellery stepped up for her own wand, grinning excitedly at her parents. "YES! she said, giving both her Dadda and her Papa two thumbs up. WAND WAND WAND. Magic was coming SOON. EEEEE.
She wriggled as the measuring tape measured her nose. SO EXCITING. Julia: Libby has responded to you here

Teddy entered Ollivanders with an excited flutter in his stomach. He had been looking forward to getting fitted for his wand since he was... well since he knew what a wand was. He was holding his mother's hand tightly as they entered the shop, but he was too nervous to speak. Lisabel had to pry his little fingers from hers so that the magical measuring tape could do its job.
He didn't want to let go, but he knew this was the moment. He saw Ava being measured, then a few other people, and he realised he had to stand straight to allow the tape to do its job. It was funny, and he let out a giggle as the measuring tape danced around him, a specific task at hand. It seemed to measure everything, and when it darted off he realised it had finished with him. It had been fun, and he glanced back at his mother, giving her the thumbs up which she returned with a warm smile on her face. Tegz: Ira has responded to you here

This had been the thing Daxton had been looking forward to the most... maybe. He had been eagerly anticipating buying his books too, so he could learn as much as he could about magic, as soon as he could. But once they'd bought as many school books as their budget had allowed, and he'd had the chance to read through them all, Daxton's attention had turned instead to the all-powerful magic wand.
The thing was, now he was here, he was quite certain that he didn't like this shop in the slightest. Between all the things to take in, and having to manoeuvre around the various other people milling about and trying not to let anyone so much as brush up against him, Daxton felt really quite stressed out. He couldn't even relax once he reached the more open area, especially when he saw tape measure, floating menacingly in wait.
... Was that going to touch him?
It looked like it was going to touch him.
Daxton felt the anxiety rise, but stepped forward into the measuring area anyway. He. Wanted. That. Wand.
The boy took a deep breath, tensed right up, and watched the tape measure get to work. This, at least, was better than an actual person getting right in his personal space to do the measuring, but somehow it felt almost the same. He wanted to badly to close his eyes and go somewhere else in his head while the thing flitted about him, but after a few moments he instead stared straight ahead, fists clenched by his sides.
When Daxton chanced another glimpse at the tape measure - it was taking far too long for his liking - and saw that it was definitely repeating a measurement it already had (elbow to wrist, left arm), he batted the stupid thing away impatiently. After giving it another whack with the back of his hand for good measure, Daxton turned away and made his way towards the front counter... before the tape measure could try wrapping itself around his head again and he was forced to set the bloody thing on fire.
