Editor in Chief's Office Although there hadn't been any major remodeling of the office space, it did appear vastly different from when it was occupied by the last Editor in Chief. Slick and modern, there's nothing extraordinary about the office. It simply just looks really put together with it's sharp clean walls and equally sharp furniture. |
So she was here as requested. Jane had a pencil caught in her hair that she was unaware of, but she was less nervous than she expected to be. She knocked sharply on the door and decided she was going to be awesome. Or something. |
If he hadn't been expecting company, Ian would wonder who was the brave soul who could knock at his office door. He would guess Getti Forde but it had been a long time since he had last heard of her. Perhaps he would have guessed Sienna as well, as she was once his superior. Nonetheless, he knew it was either Pepper or Loo Roll Jane. From his desk chair, he glanced at the door briefly with his brown eyes. "Door's open," he called out, quickly tucking his tongue inside a cheek. |
Right. Right. Of course. Jane went inside and managed a bright smile. What was this about anyway? "Hi!" ... At least she didn't introduce herself again. |
Almost immediately, Ian craned his neck to look behind Jane. "Oh, it's just you?" he asked, blinking at the door as if Pepper would appear any moment now. Perhaps he was busy. Tugging on his tie, Ian turned his face away from Jane. "Yes...hi, Jane. You may sit down, you know. It's perfectly alright to do so." |
Right. Right. Of course. She did that sitting down thing, carefully so that she didn't end up doing the falling on the floor thing. Sooo.... was she supposed to... talk about.... things. Why did she feel like the naughty school girl in the principals office? Oookay... wrong imagery there. Jane blushed and pretended to find the walls fascinating. |
Why was she acting so nervously? It was making him uncomfortable. Grunting, Ian picked up his pen. "Relax, Jane," he commanded tapping the pen against his desk repeatedly. "I'm not going to fire you or suspend you or make some ridiculous demand." At least not right now. "I just wanted to know how things are going in your section after being promoted and all..." He'd start with that. |
Oh. Was that all? "Oh its fine. I thought it'd be a whole lot extra work but so far... well..." Jane shrugged and then blew a curl out of her eyes. "I'm yet to get to know the new staff though." She clapped her hands suddenly, though the sound was strangely dull. "We should have a corporate event! With activities designed to help everyone get to know one another! You know, trust exercises." The expression on her face wasn't that creepy when she added, "I wouldn't let you fall." STARE. "Got your back, Boss." Jane added and saluted Ian. ... for reasons she wasn't sure of. |
Ian wasn't sure which term was scarier: corporate event or trust exercises. He swallowed before forcing his lips to stretch a few centimeters. Hopefully, this was a good enough smile for her. "Yes, that's...a relief," he trailed off to fumble with one of the desk drawers. He wasn't sure why Jane had saluted him and he wasn't intending to figure it out either. The less he knew about Jane Holland the better, right? Things never went okay when trying to decipher enigmas, even soft bubbly enigmas. "Jane," he interrupted himself to stare back at the woman before him. "Since you brought it up, wouldn't you like to organize said event? ... " Hoshino paused. That made him seem like he was pushing off the work on her--which really wasn't far from the truth, however... "With me, that is. Uh..." Usually, this is where someone would include some kind of encouragement. I love socializing with my employers. I'm all about trust exercises. .... "However, when it comes time to doing the trust exercises you are required to be my partner. That's non-negotiable." He just had a feeling if he was paired up with Sienna she would let him drop just because it would amuse her. |
She could do that. Jane thought about it. She COULD do that. Jane found herself nodding. She listened to Ian talk and something occurred to her. "Does that mean you.... trust me?" That was awesome. Therefore Jane was awesome. She straightened up as if she'd been given some epic pep talk. |
Ian coughed into his hand. "Thank you, Jane," said the man loudly, pulling over a stack of files. Surprisingly enough, he didn't know over the manila folders in the process. "You may get back to work now." |
