Default Inner Corridors

The inner corridors of Muswell Hill station is the only way to access the makeshift MLE training arena which are made up of converted service rooms. A little further down you'll find the incomplete lift shaft that has been converted into a work space for forensics and is also where evidences will be stored. It's eerily quiet in here, but sometimes if you stand still long enough you can hear the pitter patter of rats in the distance.

Genevieve had finally managed to scavenge enough Muggle lighting to fix the last of the internal connecting hallways, although she was a sweaty dirty mess at this point. She'd asked for help... and had no idea if anyone would actually show up. This was supposed to teach her not to be sarcastic, right? Not to be so quick with the quips and sarcasm?

Because it was working. Emily should be completely relieved to know that Genevieve was never going to be sarcastic again. She untangled one of the millions of strings of holiday lights she'd stolen off Muggle porches during the winter and wound them around an abandoned turnstile. "Muggles are stupid."

SHE LEARNED HER LESSON, OKAY, EMILY?

Vic was snoring in what was supposed to be Emily's makeshift office. She'd offered him to go there when he was feeling exceptionally blue from the tunnel, and so he'd taken her advise and went to her office.... to take a nap. He wasn't even sleepy or in need of recharging since he was doing literally nothing today. He'd arranged and rearranged the new papers they managed to collect a million times. Someone should go ahead and arrect someone for Merlin's sake.

Meanwhile, he was going to take a nap.

OR better yet.

Vic jumped to his feet when word got out of a certain little girl in detention. He strolled out of the workplace area and into the corridors maze to help... or watch and tease. Emily didn't need to punish him now did she? He was practically her golden boy.

"Well well well. Are we badmouthing while in detention?" He leaned sideways on the filthy wall and grinned.

"Make yourself useful, Lurch," Genevieve banished a mass of lights in Vic's direction before returning to her particularly tangled string. He was here to make fun of her, but she was going to enlist him for help. He was so talllll, after all.

"I'm calling the Muggles stupid, actually. Why would they invent the most impossible lights ever? Put little bulb thingies on a string and then it gets all knotted? Do you know how hard it was to st- borrow these? It was hard, and I fell off a roof. Twice. And they don't actually do more than provide mood lighting, so someone will still break their foot tripping over a rat down here." But she hadn't been able to steal the big marquee lights she'd liked. Too many Muggles around.

"Lurch. If you help me, I'll help you." 'Cause she was SO helpful.

Did she just call him Lurch? "Can we not point out each other's weak points?" He acted all offended and teary-eyed. It wasn't his fault he was bored out of his mind that he lurched to his feet at the request, okay?? Mean little girl.

That was an awfully long explanation about why Muggles were stupid. He didn't buy it. He busied himself with the tangled lights, he untangled them in a minute. "So, you stole their properties, climbed their house roofs, and called them stupid." He turned to face her, a smirk playing on his face. "Very redeeming."

Interestiiiiiiing, the girl was showing signs of an inner diplomat. She had to work on her attitude, of course, but that was still a good sign. "What sort of help would you offer me?" He started playing with the string of lights, swinging it recklessly.

"Oh, no... it's not a... I was saying..." Genevieve had to stop and lean against the wall to laugh for a minute before she was able to collect herself fully and explain. "It's just a character in a Muggle TV show. He's really tall and kind of... lurks there and doesn't talk much." And he was a Frankenstein monster, but maybe she wouldn't insult Vic that badly when she actually needed his help.

"Emily said we needed lights and I had to get them without a budget. I feel like that's permission from my Department Head to steal from Muggles. They throw them out, anyway." She used a sticking charm to stick an end to one wall and strung out the length of bulbs down the corridor. "And they are kinda stupid."

She caught the string he threw easily and began to string that up as well. "I need to get my training in Questioning and Interrogation, and I thought maybe I could shadow you. Run errands and help you? I'm dead useful." And persistent, so he should just say yes.

This is how he knew he was OLD. Vic waited patiently for her to collect herself and start explaining tv things. She was lucky the character she talked about was tall. Vic puffed out his chest and straightened his back, "Oh. Well, in that case... okay." Branxton was sneaky though, he didn't entirely trusted her choice. Did he need to investigate this teevee business too?

He agreed with her on the no-budget meaning stealing, but he didn't say it out loud, he only chuckled. "I gotta hand it to Emily, she knows exactly who to do what." Back to the stupid muggles, it seemed. He rolled his eyes at that and grabbed another tangled string of lights. The suggestion that she became his lackey, though, got his attention. Even though he didn't need one now when all of his work was trapped inside.

However, he could use the kid with his fake investigations. Interesting. "I guess that can be arranged." Slowly, he started hanging the lights that he untangled. "But I must warn you, it is a very difficult task, very delicate and it requires wits beyond measure. Literally. I've seen so many apprentices crumble and collapse on the first task." Okay, maybe he was exaggerating just a little but something told him this one was tough to be shadowed by, albeit very endearing.

Genevieve couldn't figure out exactly how she had ended up with the strand of lights wrapped around her legs, and she toppled sideways against the wall before untangling herself. Ugh. Exhausting. "She assigned me this job because someone asked for blue walls, and I jokingly suggested we needed mood lighting too. And my sass earned me the job of getting us lighting."

She held out a hand to him, asking for him to hand over another strand of lights without saying a word. He knew what to do. "I'm not afraid of hard work, Mr. Bones. And I'm not afraid of things that require my brain. I do tend to leap long before I look, but I'm getting better, and Emily will tell you that I'm clever. I'll pick it up quickly, and if I'm not an asset within a few days, you can send me back to my desk." She needed to pass this test, though, and field work just worked better for her.

"...white." He corrected her automatically. His original idea was to paint them white, then the rest of the department decided that it was too blinding and went for blue. "I see." Her sass would go alright with him, it was just because Emily was as sassy as Branxton (if not more) that she didn't tolerate it.

He handed the lights over to her and started on another string. This was way too easy. Listening to her self-assessment was very interesting, and did anyone else notice that she was a chatty young girl? "Alright. Sadly for you, we cannot work on any real cases as long as our papers are inside the ministry. However, I'll drag you along when we need to work on something new." He absently started hanging the string of lights he'd untangled.

"You can read the drafts we have of some minor cases, though." Not all the papers were locked up inside. He had copies of half the papers back home. "Reading witness' statements is a good start before you learn how to hold yourself, how to act when you're extracting it." Interrogating suspects came after that.

Blue, white, or zebra striped, Genevieve didn't really care. It was a stupid waste of time, and it had her here, now, hanging lights on a wall they probably wouldn't need much longer. So she obviously had to learn some sort of lesson out of this, or then it would REALLY be a waste of time. "We should have done graffiti. More fitting if some Muggles stumble upon us accidentally."

Not likely with all the warding, but it was a funny idea.

The idea that he didn't have any 'real' cases because the papers were locked up was miserable. Genevieve still had work to do, and she wasn't bound up by a lack of intake forms or arrest warrants. Not that she'd ever been allowed to arrest anyone, but STILL. Be a MAN, BONES. She smiled that quiet, disarming smile she'd learned from her sister, who was actually quiet and disarming. "I'm happy to read whatever you give me, Mr. Bones, although I really need practice in questioning and interrogation. Maybe we can role play, and you'll let me pretend to arrest you? I mean, if we can't try it on real people."

"You think hanging up lights is wasting your time, isn't graffiti going to be a bit much?" Or was this humphy attitude just because she got scolded by the boss and not because she was wasting her time doing humble tasks? He did chuckle at her justification, though. It was cute.

Mr. Bones was a bit much, didn't she think? "You can call me Vic. We're practically comrades." He gave her a smirk. Everyone int he department was welcome to call him Vic, actually, it was easier to communicate without those formal barriers. "Alright then. We'll arrest someone for you as soon as possible and will walk you through the questioning and interrogation." It wasn't unlikely, but they had bigger issues on their hands at the moment being locked out.. maybe... his job didn't entitle looking for criminals, that was what Aurors and the hit team were for. His job came much later. So, not his fault it was a slow week.. month... year? Hopefully not the latter. "Roleplay is good, too. But not me. I'm the mentor. I'm sure we can find a fake assaulter around here. Carter keeps peeing around, wanna get him?" He grinned at her.
