Default Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions

Madam Malkin's the premiere location for quality robes. Although predominately known for providing Hogwarts students with uniforms, Malkin's also provides other robes to the Wizarding World for all functions -- formal and informal. Once in the doors you'll notice all of the racks around the shop, as well as heavy wooden furniture throughout for resting while looking for robes.

The space may look cluttered, but upon further inspection you'll notice that there is an order and flow making it easier to find the items you seek. In the back of the shop you will find dressing rooms to try on your latest find. Along the wall you will find Hogwarts apparel and accessories. Along the opposite wall are dress robes. In the middle sits a heavy wooden counter top, a glass bowl filled with candies sits beside a pad of paper where the shopkeeper will write up your total.

Can't find what you are looking for? Ask the shopkeeper and they'll be more than happy to help you find exactly what you're looking for. Still can't find what you’re looking for? Talk to the shopkeeper and they may be able to figure out how to do a customized order for you. Don't forget your socks.

Did Winnie know anything about 17 year old girls? She almost laughed. Instead she gave the man a smile that was meant to come across as amused and charming. ”Well, I used to be one…” And before she could say much more, Victoria popped up. Either Winnie wasn’t as memorable as she thought she was, or else, the presence of Radhika was throwing Victoria off. ”Thanks, will do,” she told the shopkeep. But before she could turn back to the man and offer any advice, the other lady piped up. ”Yes! Pockets. Pockets are wonderful.”

And then Radhika was squirming and Winnie decided it was just easier to put her back on her feet. ”She’s coming on two… no three? ”I’m a terrible godmother…” A nervous sort of embarrassed laugh made its way out of her, because it was worse to think she was a mother who didn’t know her child’s age right?

He was only in his mid-forties, still young for a wizard, but he often read as somewhat older due to his old-fashioned manners. He looked from the woman who had finally spoken to him to the shopkeeper and back again. Of course, this lady wanted to talk to her friend and not be advising a stranger about girls' clothing. He shouldn't have intruded in the first place, but he so wanted to get this right. But it was all so confusing, much more complicated than gentlemen's clothing.

"Ah, um, yes, thank you, that's all very helpful, I'm sure. Thank you very much and I'm sorry for interrupting your visit." And with that, he gave an small, rather courtly bow to both women and retreated over to where the shopkeeper had directed him.

Arriving at the counter, Horatio tried to collect his thoughts. "Well, ah, no, I don't usually buy clothing for my niece. But she's just had a birthday--her seventeenth, all grown up, you know--and she was so kind to me when I was ill, I wanted to do something special for her. I used to know just what sorts of things she wore--well, they weren't really her choice, she was a child and they were ordered for her. But now she's practically grown up, or thinks she is, and I don't know quite what to get. Something rather nice, not just an everyday dress. Not too girlish--she'll get annoyed if I treat her like a child." Horatio thought a minute of just how mad Violet could get nowadays when really provoked--the way she was starting to resemble his father was a bit frightening, actually. "But...but not too adult, either--she's not completely grown up, I don't care what the law or she thinks, and I don't want her to look ridiculous. Just something...oh, seventeen is just so in between, I don't at all know the right sort of thing to get."

And then both started talking to Victoria. Radhika had wandered off to stand in front of the man while Winnie was looking. She stared at up at him with big brown eyes, clearly amused and interested, but in what? Winnie couldn’t say. She merely stood nearby watching with a very amused look on her face. It was probably because the man looked so much like an owl…

Or it was the semi-babbling, Winnie decided. Radhika did like to listen to her fathers talk. In fact, Horatio had a soothing voice she decided. A dress for a 17 year old verses dresses for weddings? Well, between the two, Winnie thought she might be a bit more suited to the former. Let Victoria help out the lady. She’d take pity on the older man. She rummaged through the wracks a little and then pulled something out. ”If I may,” she said, holding out a simple skater dress. She handed it over to him. ”Perhaps something like this?” It was convervative, but grown up. Something she herself might wear, not that she was 17 anymore.

Horatio was vaguely aware of one of the ladies moving over to a clothing rack to show him something, but his attention was caught by a young girl gazing up at him with big brown eyes. He smiled gently back at her. Horatio liked children, though he seldom had a chance to be around any. They were much less complicated than adults; he felt he understood them. He missed the time when Violet was younger and less complicated.

Then he looked up at the lady, who was holding up a dress to him. Was that the sort of thing? It did seem rather grown up, or moreso than the school-girl clothes his father still insisted on buying for Violet. And it seemed rather more conservative than some of the dresses here, too, which was good--Violet seemed to like conservative things. Just one thing, though...

"Yes...yes, I think that might be the sort of thing. Only....the color is wrong. Violet doesn't seem to like wearing very bright colors. And...I don't think she cares for red; at least, not at present. She's in Slytherin, you know, a school rivalry thing." Horatio was glad she was in Slytherin, though, because it had pleased his father. He still remembered how the family reacted when he had been sorted into Hufflepuff, the first Blackthorne in living memory to be so. "Is there anything like it in green, or maybe blue?"

Honestly, the owl like stare from Horatio was charming and she just smiled in response to him. Naia did like to talk to people, but he would have been wrong that she minded being interrupted. The other woman was a new acquaintance, and she relished meeting all of those! Including the older wizard, just as much as the woman around her age with the darling little one in her company. When he apologized whilst thanking her, she shook her head and gave a small wave of her hand. "Happy to do so! And there's no apology necessary. I like to be helpful, so really you were making my day." She just hoped anything she'd said HAD actually been of use to the man.

She couldn't help but giggle when the other woman, Winnie, had echoed her thoughts on pockets. "One would think that with the demand for them in women's clothing we would have more options!" Madame Malkins did pretty well in this area, which was why it was Naia's preferred place to shop. Perhaps she could find something suitable for her ceremony with pockets as well? A place to store the probably needed handkerchiefs.

The uncertainty in the little girl's age also gave Nai cause for a small giggle, as she nodded her head in understanding. "Truthfully, I'm sure you're wonderful. I couldn't tell you my nephew's age either." Was he almost two now? Or had they already passed that? Life was going by in such a blur. "I'm Naia by the way. And this is Cressida." Introductions seemed in order at this point.

She also watched as the young girl approached the gentleman, Cressida's own little eyes focused as well. She was too timid to leave her mother's side, but she certainly was watching after the other little girl with interest. Clearly, little one did not get another playtime with anyone near to her age.

Tori smiled as she moved closer to the counter listing to the the man (Horatio) list things about his niece. Ah, "Of course Miss. I can absolutely help ya as soon as I get this dress squared away. Knee length?" She might have just the thing for her... Well that depended on her style if it was like what she was currently wearing she might be made.

Turning her attention back to the man hearing something from the other woman (Winnie) she smiled. "Oh I do like your taste. Hmmm" she hummed as she heard the older man listing off things that she didn't like color wise. Ah she had just the thing. Flicking her wand and summoning a deep rich majestic purple color. "Do you think this would be too bright for your niece?" She was thrilled to be challenged like this.

Horatio looked carefully at the new color. Purple--hmm, he wasn't sure. Violet had tended to wear very muted colors most of her life...although this purple wasn't all that bright. And she had been talking the past two summers about whether things were 'pretty' or not. She'd even bought herself a sundress a couple of years ago, white with small roses and leaves on it. She'd worn it to that ice cream thing in Diagon Alley and seemed to like it, although she'd packed it away when they'd come home, safe from the sharp eyes of his father. But lately, Violet was asserting herself more and more--he didn't think she'd hide this one away, if she like it. And...yes, he believed she would, at that.

"Ah, well, yes...as long as it's not very bright. That purple does seem nice. I think it might be just the thing--special, but not too much so." He considered the dress again. "Yes, I think I shall buy this. It's for a Violet Blackthorne--her measurements should be in your records, she was in not too long ago, I believe."

Horatio felt quite pleased with himself for making this decision, and for getting together his own money. He'd sold some of his plants to get it, so he wouldn't have to use his allowance. He wanted this to truly be a gift from him to Violet. And he'd come to Diagon Alley all by himself, too! He was a grown man, after all, and not a complete invalid, though his family had been treating him as one since he got out of St. Mungo's at the beginning of the previous summer.

Feeling quite the man about town, he glanced back at the shop, at the women and the children, and smiled at them all again.

Radhika smiled back at the man, tugged on her shirt and then turned to her Godmother and rambled off a string of incomprehensible baby nonsense, while pointing at the man. Then she laughed and toddled off towards the other lady. Maybe someone would play with her.

”Pockets are amazing.” She agreed, giving Naia a big smile. ”Sometimes, you just don’t want to carry a bag and where are you supposed to keep your wand?” Winnie gave Victoria a smile and then put the dress back on the rack not at all perturbed by the man’s comments. She’d helped. That was all that mattered to her. ”Oh no you don’t little missy…” She hurried over to snatch up Radhika who sped up laughing again as if this was a game. Winnie pretended to let her run for a moment then scooped her up. ”We need to decide on a dress for you and a scarf for me….” Radhika made a pffttt-ing sound and patted Winnie on the cheek, then flopped over to try and look at the man again. ”So silly…” But it occurred to her that perhaps Winnie didn’t want a dress. Too bad, she was getting one. She needed to have at least one in her closet or else she wasn’t doing her job as a Godmother. ”I’m Winnie,” she tried shifting Radhika around. She was more interested in watching Horatio upside down. ”And this silly dodo is Radhika.”

As Victoria suggested a purple dress and the man said the young lady’s name was Violet, she wondered if that was perhaps a bit too on-the-nose, but he seemed happy with the suggestion. ”Might I suggest a necklace to go with it as well? Perhaps a simple gold chain? Oh - or a belt. Me? I’m partial to scarves. So useful in so many ways.”

Naia smiled back at the shopkeeper, nodding her head at the knee length suggestion. "Perfect! And take your time." Really she was in no rush. It was also just an excuse for a girl's day for her and her little miss. Besides, there were so many fun and friendly people currently in the store who wouldn't enjoy a chance to visit? Besides, Cressida was also entirely enthralled with staring at the man in the shop too. Cress didn't see many males outside of her daddy, with Trigger being often busy, Lucas in school and well... neither her or Jig's dad were around. She made mental note to take her daughter to go see Naia's own grandfather more while they had the chance to.

"Bags are so loathsome. I always forget to pick mine back up." At least there was a diaper bag now. "And without pockets there really is no where convenient to hide a wand when you're wearing a dress." Long sleeves could be a little more doable, but short sleeve? Forget about it. There was a soft chuckle as the little girl went on her own little run Naia's way, and the squeals of happiness caught Cress's attention too as the little one turned to toddle after the older girl as well before she was scooped up by her godmother. Cress was very put out by this, pouting a little and plopping down on the floor while her mum also moved to scoop her up. "Are you looking for a dress for a special occasion as well? I need to find one for this little girl as well. Though we haven't decided on what our favorite color is yet." Which gave Nai room to push her own favorite on her. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Winnie. And you as well Radhika! What a cutie pie you are!"

Was it obvious just how much she adored little ones??

If a purple dress was too much for a girl named Violet, Horatio was blissfully unaware of it; his niece had been named for the flower, not the color, and that was the way he thought of her. What Violet would make of it was another story. He pondered the new suggestions. Somehow he didn't see Violet as a scarf person, and he was not sure how a belt would look with the dress (besides, that would mean selecting yet another color, and Horatio felt he had really done as much of that as he could handle today). But...a chain? Violet did seem to like jewellry, at least the few pieces she had. "Yes...yes, perhaps a piece of jewellry would be nice, as long as it's not too extravagant. Perhaps a chain, as you suggest--gold...or perhaps, silver?"

Victoria smiled at the compliments on the dress. It wasn't an in you face kind of purple it was that deep I'm pretty but not standing out too hard kind of purple. It was majestic. Smiling she heard the other woman mention taking her time to help the gentleman.

Jewelry?!

"Oh I think a necklace would be good. No no no. Absolutely a subtle chain with a small pendant would look great with this. promise." And she did promise. This was her job after all.
