Default Office of Professor Feirgrund

♦ ♦ ♦

♦ ♦ ♦

The office of Professor Feirgrund is located through another door inside the Muggle Studies classroom. Inside the office you're pleasantly surprised by the space and minimal decor compared to the classroom. The shelves are decorated not only of books but occasional knick-knacks, and portrait frames of his own family and friends. Be sure to knock before entering. Once you're allowed entry, you first notice the desk in the middle with a couple chairs facing the Professor's own chair behind the desk along with the decor.

Default Job Fair Consultation: Desiree Marchand

While the Monsieur / Professor Feirgrund would have ordinarily held the consultation in the Hospital Wing given Miss Marchand's interest in Healer, they had other interests as well that could be subdued from the location. So what better choice than his own office, where he had more material for her to consider.

Her file was there, along with other files of material from pamphlets and brochures regarding career choices and subject matter. All that was left was the student's arrival.

Desiree was more than a little nervous about her mock job interview. What if she made too many mistakes or said the wrong thing? And if she messed up a fake interview, what were the odds that she could handle a real one? Would that mean she’d never have a good career?

The dark-haired Hufflepuff took a deep breath to calm her nerves as she stood outside the office door. She’d done everything she could to prepare for this, including dressing for the occasion in her Disney-inspired interpretation of business casual attire: a simple light green dress, matching blazer and shoes, and a small water lily pin as a nod to her outfit inspiration, Princess Tiana. Okay, here goes everything! She thought. She knocked on the door and waited.

Not a moment too soon when the door knocked. Feirgrund went over to open the door, "Hello Miss Marchand, you're just in time," She was even dressed appropriate for a job interview, though this wouldn't be as strict as one, "Go on and have a seat," He waited for the fifth year to enter in before he shut the door after. "You can help yourself to some tea and biscuits on the desk," There was a fresh kettle near some cups and a plate of biscuits.

"So I see you're interested in pursuing a career as Healer," He started out with her submission, "But you mentioned an interest in fashion and dance, tell me more about that," In case she had other interests to explore with healing.

Desiree stood up straight, holding her hands gracefully behind her back to hide any trembling. Okay, Des. You’ve got this. Keep it polite and professional, she thought as the door opened. “Hello, Professor Feirgrund,” she replied with a small smile as she entered the office. The offer of tea and biscuits was unexpected, but made her smile grow nonetheless. “Thank you. Would you like some as well?”

She took a seat, still maintaining her good posture, and carefully poured herself a cup of tea. She waited to hear whether or not the professor wanted some too before replacing the kettle. Blink, blink. That question was not how she thought this conversation would start, but she didn’t let any surprise show on her face.

“The arts are important in my family,” she began. “Growing up, my parents had me try different things to see what stuck, and I loved dance, especially ballet. I’ve taken classes since I was four. Fashion design kind of happened by accident. I’ve always loved Disney movies. When I got too old to wear the princess costumes, I still wanted to incorporate Disney into my wardrobe, so I learned to design my own clothes. I used to think I’d go into one of those fields, but I realized they place too much importance on outer appearance. I want to help people feel better, not just look better.”

Did she say too much? She glanced toward the professor a little nervously.

Did she say too much? She glanced toward the professor a little nervously.

"Why thank you, I would," Feirgrund would've actually poured them both tea but she was already doing so as he sat down. He imagined she had some nerves and needed to do something with her hands with the gesture, so he didn't interrupt.

"Well, it's good to have open interests," Feirgrund smiled kindly at what she shared. His own daughter had the same interest with Disney films and memorabilia, though she was still very young to express all her interests. "It's also admirable, since you already learned that you want your career choice to focus on helping others and not so much on how they should present themselves," Very astute. "At the upcoming Job fair, there may be representatives in the fashion industry as well as with Healers. There are many fields of specialties within the Healer industry that you'd be interested in looking into. Whether you'd prefer to focus on Physical Healing, Mental, Sports, and perhaps focusing on Children, and such." And of course, with schools, but that was already a given here.

Now for his own advice, "I will share some advice on what you can focus on currently in school. Your marks are good overall in my class. As long as you can achieve an Exceeds Expectations or Outstanding in Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, and Defence Against the Dark Arts class. You'd be well on your way to training after Hogwarts. Even if you somehow fall below the mark, there's always make ups and pursuing Wizarding University to expand that knowledge." He paused, noting that he did share a lot at once, giving her a chance to take it in. "Were there any concerns or questions you had in mind?"

He paused, noting that he did share a lot at once, giving her a chance to take it in. "Were there any concerns or questions you had in mind?"

Had Desiree known what Professor Feirgrund was thinking, she would have confirmed his suspicions about her nervousness. Or maybe she wouldn’t. She wouldn’t want her nervousness to come across as weakness! Fortunately she wasn’t a Legilimens so it didn’t matter. “Certainly,” she replied with a small smile as she poured another cup of tea for the professor.

For a moment, she wasn’t sure if she’d said the right thing when she answered the previous question, but the professor’s smile put her mind at ease. She positively beamed when he said her realization was admirable, and her eyes lit up at the mention of people from the fashion industry at the job fair. She wondered who was coming! Although she doubted she would pursue fashion as a career, it was still a subject close to her heart, and she wanted to learn as much as she could about it!

Feirgrund’s next words made her think. She hadn’t decided on a specific area of healing yet, but she was sort of leaning toward something to do with spell damage. Thanks to Peeves and the teddy rat incident, she knew how it felt to be on the receiving end of spell damage with no way to fix it, and she was pretty good with wandwork. Speaking of which, the conversation turned to exam requirements. Charms and transfiguration were two of her strongest subjects, and she was reasonably confident in herbology. Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts, however… she wasn’t failing either subject as far as she knew, but they were a lot harder than the others.

Desiree daintily sipped her tea, contemplating what to say next. “I should be fine in Charms, Transfiguration, and Herbology, but Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts don’t come naturally to me. Should I talk to Professors Hernandez and Khanna about extra tutoring?” she asked. “And those requirements stay the same for OWLs and NEWTs, right?” She hesitated a moment before adding, “Also if you don’t mind me asking, how did you choose a field of specialty?”
